  • "Arrived and the music playing was amazing. The host was great. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the view of the kitchen. Food was AMAZING. Seabass, chicken wings, skirt and a double soft shell crab burger. The play list was amazing all night, staff on point. Can't wait to go back "

  • "Absolutely loved shrimpys. We started with drinks outside in the sunshine and then went inside for the most fabulous food. We shared starters and they were all delicious and then the soft shell crab burger was insanely good. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Shrimpy's still feels a little "unfound" despite being five minutes walk from King's Cross. Hidden behind a huge sheet of corrugated plastic it may give the impression of not being worth a visit but on the other side of the plastic is a lovely view of the river with plenty of outdoor space. Indoors is cramped, frankly, but comfortable - the tables do turn quickly so reservations are essential. Eat outside if weather permits. The food was great though I would like to see a little more choice for vegetarians than the single main dish (though it was delicious). The frickles are to die for!!"

  • "Great ambiance in a quirky building and a fabulous location on the canal. The food and juices were excellent and the Mariachi band topped off the experience with Prince Charming."

  • "My expenses claim says 'Fried Chicken', which doesn't really sum up the experience. V. cool architecture at the old filling station, cool view over the canal and close to King's X. Just great service start to finish which was friendly, helpful, thoughtful, but not perma-smiles (thank god). Food in various south american guises, good ingredients, well thought out dishes. Crumbling, but crunchy fried chicken batter with not a hint of grease and nuanced flavour. I look forward to going on a summery evening and sitting outside."

  • "We tried to book at 7pm via TopTable and were told it was full so had to arrive earlier. In fact, we were the only diners in the restaurant until 7.15!!"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the food and unusual menu, professional service, great atmosphere. Will be back."

  • "We loved this place when it opened but the quality of the crab hamburger has declined; there wasn't any avocado in it. Plus it is a porky menu: if you don't eat pork one fish dish is your only option. still a great outdoor space though"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed dinner for a family celebration. The food was excellent and eclectic. We found the drinks menu rather pricey. it will be fun to return in warmer weather as it looks great to sit outside by the canal."

  • "An uncomplicated, fun evening that was just what we were looking for an a wet Sunday evening. Charming service, some good food (ceviche particularly good - plus interesting puddings) and affordable. It must be a stunning spot in the summer, canalside on the terrace."

  • "This was our 2nd time dining at Shrimpys and we were equally impressed, especially with the service. We had the crab burger again - but they now serve it with cheese and I have to say I preferred it before with avocado and chilli. Nonetheless, overall it was a great experience."

  • "Definitely enjoyed the meal. Menu relatively simple but dishes well thought-out and executed very well. Beef skirt was spot on and the desserts were very good. Atmosphere was lively and intimate without being too loud, and the staff were friendly, competent and very considerate. Staff definitely a plus."

  • "Really lovely restaurant, the soft shell crab burger and cocktails are brilliant. Food did arrive very quickly however, we were in and out in less than an hour!"

  • "Went to Shrimpy's for Sunday brunch with friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. I'm a vegetarian and there were several varied choices. Loved the humita! Not the best value but not extortionate and worth it for something a bit different."

  • "The younger members of the party enjoyed being in Kings Cross which is great and vibrant. My heart sank however when we walked in. I dont know if it was the decor or the lighting or the pot plants but I wasnt impressed.Menu is very meaty...very few decent veg options. Bloody Mary + tequila was excellent though as were the Frickles (fried pickles). Husband had vacherin mash as a side which was delicious. I just couldnt get the soft shell crab burger down my throat...bland and greasy. May have been my fault as I had it without bacon and I think that might have improved it. The slaw was good, drinks good, service pleasant and attentive. It must just have been the lack of choice for me and the decor/lighting that didnt do it for me."

  • "Been to Shrimpy's a couple of time and this time I invited a few friends to try the soft shell crab burger. They all enjoyed it and we had a good night chatting and laughing away. Service was great and the waitress was really attentive."

  • "I booked Shrimpy's on recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. Everything about the decor was delightful, from the hooded blankets for sitting outside, to the eclectic artwork, the potted succulents, the pineapples, the 50s Cuban vibe. Just fabulous. The restaurant is small but didn't feel cramped and my friend and I were able to have a really good chat so although there was a great ambience, it wasn't too loud. The menu doesn't have a great choice for veggies but everything sounded delicious with some unusual food (and cocktail) combos. The service was AMAZING throughout the night. Friendly, quick and just the right amount of attention from the lovely staff. I would definitely recommend Shrimpy's and will definitely be going back!"

  • "I had read some half hearted reviews of Shrimpy's; after having booked for supper. Reviews very wrong. Delicious food, very easy, no fuss, and charming service. A skip from King's Place so great for pre-concert. Also a bargain before before 6pm, another plus for concert goers. Will return very soon."

  • "When we arrived the hostess told us they were prepping our table.. then she comes over and says our table is ready.. then just walks away, doesn't show us to the table. Clearly we should have been paying more attention - where exactly is our table?? So we wait and she asks if 'something is wrong' and points to our table. The waitress herself was lovely. Soft Shell Crab burger was okay - though we asked for mayo and didn't get any. The winner was their slaw - so fresh and balanced. Dessert was also divine - black forest sundae & the gingerbread with butterscotch sauce (basically sticky toffee sponge). All was great but the patronizing hostess just left a bad taste in my mouth throughout the meal so we won't be going back."

  • "I came here with two friends at the weekend for brunch and it was excellent. I highly recommend the Humita and fried eggs as well as the Steak, beans and eggs which were perfectly cooked and completely delicious - definitely helped rescue us from nasty hangovers. The steak was beautifully rare and tender and we found all the dishes were very well balanced. We'll definitely be coming back as lots of other interesting brunch dishes that we are keen to sample."

  • "Gorgeous, warm, cocoon-like atmosphere. We sat at the bar, which was fun because we got to chat to the bartender. It was the evening after Valentine's so there was still a general atmosphere of romance about town. Delicious ceviche, chicken wings, beef tostada and maple slaw. Also had the soft-shell crab burger and, while the overall flavour was delish, the crab itself was rather a non-event. Would definitely go again. Amazingly addictive spicy margueritas. Overall yum rating - very high."

  • "This restaurant is tucked away behind Kings Cross and is a great find. Quite small but with a quirky feel - the illustrations on the wall adding character. The food was great - the portions large and I would return for the soft shell crab burger. Service was attentive and friendly, the staff were great to advise on wine and the menu. Would love to go back in the summer and sit outside next to the canal."

  • "Had a very pleasant evening in this querky establishment! Service was outstanding and food was of similar par!"

  • "Totally overrated. I had expected a fantastic experience with great food. The space is small and cramped. The food below average, almost as if from a catering college first year student. Wine list expensive when compared to overall dining experience. Toilets were not clean, a urinal in the mens was blocked and overflowing. The whole experience felt amateur and was expensive for this. Would def not recommend Shrimpy's."

  • "miserable staff..... food overpriced and average at best. nice atmosphere in the space though. if you are looking to spend money on some grub there are plenty of other places i would go first."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. It's a little gem that is often hard to find in London. The staff were extremely friendly and the food blew our socks off. Can't wait to go back in the summer and sit outside near the canal."

  • "Friend and I went for dinner early on a Friday night. The restaurant was buzzing and it's so unusual both in terms of location and decor. Amazing romantic mood lighting and cool vintage deck out. I had a delicious soft shell crab burger and my friend had a elegantly named cheeseburger in a bonnet! We had some chips and dips to start and a bottle of wine. All of that came to 33 pounds a head. Bit steep, could get three courses in some places. But the experience was fab!"

  • "This place reminds me of the quirky, yummy restaurants in Venice Beach LA. It feels very cool without being contrived and it's small enough inside that you think it's your little secret. The food is both filling and perfectly sized, leaving you wanting just a couple of bites more. The staff are friendly and know when to chat to you and when to leave you alone. It's a temporary pop-up that has a large outside space and (should we have a British summer) I expect it'll be packed everyday."

  • "I've been wanting to try Shrimpy's/The Filling Station for a while and though it wasn't disappointing, it wasn't particularly noteworthy either. An interesting menu and well made food (the crab burger was very good) but a general lack of inspiration about the place. It wasn't bad, it was just a bit... meh. I might go back, I might not. Wouldn't particularly encourage or discourage people from going. It is fine."

  • "We ate at Shrimpys on a Thursday night. It was me and two uni friends that I have not seen for a long time. It was a good choice of venue. We did not eat on any offer and let our hair down a bit with the food - a couple of beers each, dessert, coffee and it all came in at £45 a head. My soft shelled crab burger was excellent. In fact all the food looked good and tasted good. Not the cheapest but you got looked after pretty well and a good atmosphere. Would go again."

  • "Great summer venue and I enjoyed the setting when I last went. This time we went in December and were seated indoors where it's much more cramped. Food took some time to be served and it was as delicious as last time, however I'm of the vue that the menu would benefit form a seasonal revamp."

  • "Loved this restaurant. Not a huge menu but different and spicy foods. Signature dish is soft shell crab burger. Worth a visit"

  • "I visit Shrimpy's on a very wet evening. Finding the diner is half the fun, snaking behind construction areas until twinkling lights promise food and warmth. I order jicama chips, desiring hot, fried comfort. In an original twist, however, the jicama comes raw, seasoned with citrus juice and salt. Quirky, but... Where are my crunchy fries? Beef tostada is better than the grilled prawns, but again lots of raw veggies and carpaccio-like beef. This is a diner: where is the comfort food?? Crab burger is nice but mainly batter, the best bit being a bacon strip. And apple pie is fine, but definitely not the American thing, tart and with a shortcrust pastry rather than a proper pie shell. With crystallized ice-cream. Fine, but a bit hit and miss."

  • "Firstly the decor and fittings inside are all amazing! If you're a fan of tropical pineapple lamps and cacti lined up along the window sill then this is the place for you! The starters we had were interesting, the sea bass and squid ceviche was saturated in lemon making it hard to taste anything. The mains however were fantastic! The seam bream was perfectly grilled and the sweet corn salsa the perfect accompaniment, the soft shell crab burger was the best burger and soft shell crab I've ever tasted and I'd run back to shrimpys just for this dish! The freckles were great too and the dessert of peanut butter and banana sandwich was incredible! I would highly recommend!"

  • "Great ambience, not as full-on as expected. Staff were awesome, not overly attentive just friendly and helpful. Broth was great, pork pozole tasty but not overly exciting. Loving the jicama. Great evening with some slightly different nosh. Give it a whirl for a catch-up evening with friends."

  • "Great location and vibe, very urban and would impress on a date. I was underwhelmed by the food. Not a big selection and all a take on Mexican/South American. A starter of grilled squid and fennel and chilli was the star for me, corn croquettes with aubergine a disappointing main. Husband felt the same, not especially memorable and wouldn't go back for the food. There are other places we rate higher with better food, granted maybe not so hip but I'd vote for the food every time."

  • "Birthday celebration meal very disappointed.Had left the West End and all the Christmas buzz and walked in to a cold and un atmospheric restaurant. Not one Christmas decoration in sight. The menu was very limited and presentation un inventive and poor value for money.Could not find enough choice to choose a starter. we all liked, for four. All the waiter made sure was our glasses never emptied.Maybe offer to take our coats instead us having to hang them on the rail ourselves and maybe check out the Gents toilet as they smelt of the local canal.Someone may have offered a little more personal attention to us,it wasn't busy after all.Not a place I would return."

  • "Spent a fun Friday night at Shrimpy's in December celebrating two birthdays. We enjoyed the unusual, mysterious exterior and canal side location, the food and wine were inventive, delicious and good value, and our waitress stuck candles in our dessert cheese and sang happy birthday in Lithuanian!"
