RoastPerfectRarely do I give anything top marks and I've been trying hard to think of some negatives but can't. From the moment I was greeted, coat taken and shown to the table to the time I left, the whole experience was pretty perfect. And the scotch egg starter and leg of ham main course, washed down with the Chapel Down Bacchus Reserve, was outstanding. I took a potential client and came away with the order. All in all a pretty perfect experience.21/05/2013 00:00:00Dads birthday lunchI took my Dad to Roast for a Sunday lunch, to celebrate his birthday. I had been to Roast once before with a friend and loved it. When I returned 6 months later it did not disappoint. The menu has a lot of choice and the food is fantastic. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. I am looking forward to returning again!19/05/2013 00:00:00Roast Sunday lunchExcellent food and after asking to move table, got positioned just outside the kitchen originally (too hot and smelled too much of food) we ended up in the front window overlooking the market, next to jazz trio who were excellent. Food and service very good, we often call in here when in London.
Sunday lunch is superb, also lovely South African Pinotage to compliment the Roast Beef which was cooked just as we like it.
Highly recommended.19/05/2013 00:00:00Sunday lunchWe went to Roast for Sunday lunch, the service was good and the food was delicious19/05/2013 00:00:00I have visited Roast on aI have visited Roast on a number of occasions and this was a great visit, made by the wonderful service of our waiter. He was friendly and attentive and made the whole experience feel personal - what a difference that makes! Starters of steamed asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and Scotch egg were great, even if the asparagus was expensive. The pork belly main course was all you could want - a huge piece of meat with the most perfect crackling I've ever tasted. Lamb was also great, with a home made mint sauce that really rounded it off. My apple/rhubarb crumble with custard was a lovely example, not too heavy or cloying. I didn't get to taste my husband's sticky date pudding but assume he enjoyed it as it all went! A special occasion venue.18/05/2013 00:00:00Outstanding ServiceRefreshing to see such eagle eyed waiters and so on the ball. The floor seemed very will run. The food was great and atmosphere relaxed.18/05/2013 00:00:00The beef for two is out ofThe beef for two is out of this world. I don't hesitate in saying that this is the most sublime roast beef I have ever had. No exaggeration whatsoever. Brown egg to start is also incredible. Also stand out was the rhubarb crumble martini pudding cocktail. The service was spot on. Very friendly, efficient and you could tell our waiter loved what he was doing. A pleasure to see. Really well done to Roast on this. Visited: 18/05/13.18/05/2013 00:00:00We went to the restaurantWe went to the restaurant friday night. The atmosphere was good the second we walking in with live music on the piano and a lady singing. Nice and chilled, not over the top. We were sat near the open kitchen which only made it harder to decided what to have because all the food coming out looked so good. The food came out quick and the waiters were polite. We had a cocktail and the end of the meal which was brilliant. We really enjoyed our evening at Roast!17/05/2013 00:00:00Best Breakfast in Europe!I'm Aussie, where breakfast & coffee is hard to beat and when i was told about Roast i shamefacedly underestimated my friend's recommendation. This is hands down the best breakfast in Europe!! My parents from Sydney said they will be back for another Full Borough breakfast and praised the staff who were friendly and attentive, gave us a table in the sun next to the gorgeous floor to ceiling arch sash windows and even offered me a cushion to support my back as i'm currently 39 weeks pregnant. I am writing this review to alert other establishments they have some big shoes to fill!16/05/2013 00:00:00Sunday RoastFirst visit. Went Sunday pre-(matinee)-theatre. Booked for midday - the place was buzzing by 12.30. Three course menu at £35. Both had the roast chicken for main - meat nice and moist and skin nice and crisp - very good all round. All done by 1.30 for leisurely stroll along the river to NT. Will be back.12/05/2013 00:00:00A birthday treatThe restaurant was full and vibrant. The service was impeccable and friendly. The food was lovely and the time spent with my wife was even better.11/05/2013 00:00:00Wonderful RoastThe four of us had a really superb meal with excellent service. Could not really be faulted. Not sure why places like Roast, Simpsons etc will never qualify for a Michelin Star...you could not get food as good as this in France or Italy...the sooner we leave Europe the better!11/05/2013 00:00:00excellent meal at RoastI took my husband to Roast for his 40th birthday. It was a real treat. Lovely food, with sdifferent foods available e.g. gulls eggs which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. I had the roast cod - simple, but beautiful. Was surprised at size of my desert - lemon posset and shortbread, could have been half the size, good portions.
Like the different options by each day. All food well sourced and tells you were from.
Good friendly service. Superb wine and beer choices - again lot of English locally sourced.
Would recommend for a special treat. Great views over market and excellent people watching, wouldn't have wanted to be in the middle low down. Ask for a window table!08/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent as alwaysI regularly use Roast for breakfast with friends - the two for one on breakfasts Mon-Weds 7-8am makes it very affordable, the quality is excellent and the service is impeccable. Will be coming back for dinner!07/05/2013 00:00:00Been to Roast many times beforeBeen to Roast many times before for business lucnhes but this time was a celebratory Sunday Lunch with my husband and it was excellent. It didn't disapoint in any way. It was an expensve Sunday lunch but then we didn't skimp on the wines!05/05/2013 00:00:00Breakfast in LondonWe have visited Roast on several occasions and the standard of service is always excellent. Choices are excellent and the restaurant does not disappoint. The service is excellent and the food was on the table before you knew it.04/05/2013 00:00:00WonderfulHad a lovely meal here on Saturday night - we took friends who are real foodies and they loved it. Would recommend.04/05/2013 00:00:00the best steak I have had for yearsSimply the best steak I have had in any country for years. The waiting staff were excellent as well, always putting the customer's wishes and needs at the heart of what they did.03/05/2013 00:00:00Perfect man food!I took my partner here for his birthday. He is a huge carnivore and claims that a roast dinner is his favourite meal. Now having to go up against his mum's Sunday roast is a big thing, so I wussed out and booked us a table at Roast. We had the fillet of beef to share which was beautifully cooked and tender with some of the best roast potatoes I have ever eaten (sorry Grandma!). Starters of scallops and haggis scotch egg were amazing and reminded you that you were in a top class restaurant. The desserts of sticky toffee pudding and strawberry and basil cheesecake were completely uneccessary as we were so full, but irresistible! A great wine list with some beautiful English wines from Chapel Down really brought together the whole meal.03/05/2013 00:00:00Birthday lunchTook my mother here for a birthday lunch, and requested a nice table at the time of booking because of this. A window seat had been reserved for us overlooking the entrance to Borough Market, and despite a mix up on the mains order, we experienced excellent service. Lovely good and a candlelit. pudding for mum with happy 82 birthday piped on plate. Attention to detail!30/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday LunchA wonderful Sunday lunch! Couldn't fault anything. Highly recommended!28/04/2013 00:00:00Superb breakfastBreakfast at Roast is one of my favourite things. I go there for breakfast maybe three or four times a year - this time I spotted "Full Scottish" on the menu. I was tempted and succumbed. It was excellent.27/04/2013 00:00:00BREAKFASTMy partner and I booked breakfast last Saturday for 9.30am prior to a shopping trip in the market. This seems to be a good time, as the restaurant was completely full by the time we left. . My partner had the full Scottish, which he has had before and absolutely loves. I had the eggs royal with smoked trout. Both dishes were beautifully presented and totally delicious. Lovely fresh coffee and smoothies. I even managed some toast and jam, although was completely stuffed by the end and wasnt able to eat again until the evening! All the staff are very friendly and efficient. Everything is brought out with very little delay, but you never feel as though you are being rushed.27/04/2013 00:00:00Roast outdoes itselfA Saturday dinner at Roast is always amazing. Great food, great wine, excellent service and grat venue. You may have seen the restaurant in the recently released film Trance too!27/04/2013 00:00:00Definitely will return andDefinitely will return and recommend to others. Food was very good and service was impeccable.27/04/2013 00:00:00Roast stll delivering at top levelWith views both of a Saturday-lunchtime-busy Borough Market and of the ever serene St Paul's Cathedral, and with great food and a great eating experience on offer, Roast was full, buzzy, and exciting. Starters were variously lamb sweetbreads and scotch egg with haggis, and mains ham hock and snail pie, and pork belly, all well prepared and cheerily but professionally served. Great places like this lift the spirits, all the way through and for hours afterwards. I usually ask and get a table by the North or West windows, and it's a pity that they were not available that day.We completely enjoyed our lunch nonetheless, and will be back.27/04/2013 00:00:00Roast at Borough MarketRoast at Borough Market continues to impress. This time we took a couple of foodie friends to Roast for dinner, and we all agreed that it was a great meal, with attentive service and a perfect location. The menu and wine list have something for everyone. The bill at the end is on the high side.26/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent all over...no more to add...:-)I love the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish- one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didnt quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable26/04/2013 00:00:00good for every mealhave had breakfast lunch and dinner here - it is excellent for all. Right in Borough Market - perfect location.25/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent Sunday RoastThe Sunday roast really lives up to it's name. Traditional, tasty and filling. I finished up with sticky date pudding which was superb.21/04/2013 00:00:00Still very goodI keep returning to this place not just because of the great Borough Maket on he door step but the food and service is very good. Good menu choice - i had the roast beef and although it was Sirloin (why do restaurants serve Sirloin for sunday lunch its not the best cut) it was still good, nice roast potatoes, veg and nice big yorkshire pudding. My starter was great - sardines with an egg on brioche - sounds strange but lovely !
Will be back.21/04/2013 00:00:0021st Birthday Celebration WeekendDining as family of 6 I thought it might be a struggle to expect a smooth lunch ... but right from our warm arrival welcome we were treated very well. The food quality was excellent, well prepared, hot and arrived simultaneously - the lamb and the pork belly were cooked to perfection. Perhaps not a restaurant for young children but that was fine for us.
Well done Roast !20/04/2013 00:00:00Roast lived up to its reputationRoast lived up to its reputation for providing the best breakfast in London. I took two French guests who were blown away by the quality of the breakfast, the friendly and efficient service, and the ambiance. This was my first visit and I shall certainly return for its famous roast lunch.18/04/2013 00:00:00Fun and entertainingBenihana - Picadilly. I go at least once a month and it's always great fun. I would recommend for groups or special occasions. Getting an entertaining chef really does make a difference though and this time he was very good.15/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday Roast Lunch 14/4/13Great food, lovely, airy ambience. Atmosphere was buzzing yet enjoyable. The service was also very good. I would recommend this for Sunday lunch to anyone. The 35 pound per head menu was good value.14/04/2013 00:00:00Relaxed afternoonMe & my wife had a lovley sunday afternoon at roast lovely food relaxed buzzy atmosphere good freindly service loved it!!14/04/2013 00:00:00Good food and ambienceTop marks for cocktails and ambience as we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar area on sunday afternoon (about 5ish) with the live jazz piano. I loved the jellied ham hock starter and while my lemon sole was nice I should have ordered a roast dinner! I particularly envied the pork belly which was a far cry from the usual small square you get elsewhere but a decent "roll" of it with superb crackling! The veggies were good and al dente though the "dripping" potatoes weren't very hot or fresh. The chicken was a large portion which looked lovely too. They had run out of the lemon posset desert (we were the last sunday sitting) I wanted. There is relatively limited choice for a Sunday set menu but I would go back nonetheless.14/04/2013 00:00:00Great location with a reallyGreat location with a really nice, bright and pleasant environment inside. The menu is a great mix of seasonal produce with modern versions of classic dishes, essentially great ingredients put together really well. The menu is a little restrictive to vegetarians or those unable to eat wheat however the restaurant made a great effort to accommodate such a person in our group.
Awesome service, good knowledge and banter.
Will be going back for a breakfast and to try out the full menu not available on Sunday.14/04/2013 00:00:00Top spotwe were in London catching up with friends, and one suggested Roast for brunch: perfect! Great food, great ambience, helpful staff, and an entertaining walk through Borough Market afterwards. A TOP spot!13/04/2013 00:00:00RoastravaganzaImpeccable location, food and ambience, foodie heaven.13/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing views of Borough MarketsWhat a wonderful place to start off a lovely day in London. The service is beyond amazing and the views of a bustling borough market on a Saturday morning were a treat.13/04/2013 00:00:00Evening at RoastThe food was very good, wine good at not outrageous prices. The service was friendly without being intrusive.
We ate quite early and stayed quite late, but were not hassled. Very convenient for meeting friends for the evening when there are trains to catch back home.13/04/2013 00:00:00Super - faultless serviceSuper - faultless service and awesome food with great wines. We took friends from outside of London who were wowed with the experience.12/04/2013 00:00:00DinnerFantastic service, very good British fair and great wine. We've eaten at Roast twice and both times have been great. When you book, ask for a table overlooking the market.09/04/2013 00:00:00Service And Food done rightI brought a party of four to Roast for Sunday dinner and I could not of wished for better! The venue itself is light and airy and requests made on my booking were catered for. All of the staff who dealt with us were friendly yet professional and the service more than matched the food, which was flawless. If you want quality home reared meats and traditional English dishes then this is the place for you. Keep up the good work!07/04/2013 00:00:00Great food and service,The food was fantastic at Roast, the main courses certainly lived up to their name. The portions were very generous but the meat was still cooked to perfection. If you are a meat lover who can part £50ph then Roast is a must and not bad value for what it provides.06/04/2013 00:00:00Roast - not just for SundaysBest pork belly I've ever had and I've had a lot because it's my favourite dish. Everything, food and service was to a high standard. We booked for 6.30pm because it was busy later, but rather enjoyed dining while it was still light with the views of Borough Market.06/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent food and good setting forI recently booked a table for a business lunch and found the food, service, and setting to be perfect. A nice relaxed atmosphere, and not too noisy. Lots of options to choose from on the menu. I would recommend this place highly.03/04/2013 00:00:00
