Diner Reviews
  • "I visited Roast for lunch this Easter Sunday. i must say that starters were very nice(haggis and crab pate). However, roast beef was slightly overcooked for a medium rare. Gravy looked and tasted as if it was diluted....not sue if that was the case. Vegetables served with the beef were very tasty. We asked for a table by the window and they arranged it without a fuss. also our french waitress was lovely. another downside was live music that we could not hear much of as if the singer had more time for breaks than for singing/playing. plus most of the songs were just their own interpretation of current popular pop songs.... wines by the glass slightly on the pricey side..."

  • "We had a great birthday lunch for my husbands 5oth, we have been to Roast on many occasions but always for breakfast, which is excellent, the best in London! Lunch was great, a good choice of traditional British fayre. "

  • "Not very good value for money. And not very much imagination in the menu. Very over priced for what you are getting. You are better of wandering around the market and sampling food from the stalls. Staff seem uninterested and had to wait ages for a drink at my table. There are better restaurants in the area."

  • "We had a terrific time at Roast, service was friendly, attentive and timely. Breakfast on Saturday is a real start to the day and Borough Market consistently adventurous. Roast remains an all time favourite. "

  • "Been many times before but this was not one of the best experiences. Service was confused and dishes/drinks removed before they were finished. Belly of pork dish was huge and not particularly tasty. Shame as this is one of my favourites but not on this occasion. "

  • "My wife and I planned a trip to experience the viewing platform in the Shard followed by lunch at Roast, which was recommended by our daughter. After an excellent morning we arrived at Roast looking forward to lunch. We were not disappointed. From our being greeted warmly at the entrance to being shown to a window table our experience started well and then improved. The service was perfect for me, efficient and unobtrusive but available when required. Our starters were ideal being followed by well prepared and well presented mains. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Roast, but I do not expect it to be our last. "

  • "Eaten here before and it was delicious. Set menu expensive I thought and limited choice. Good service though."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant with a great menu with amazing quality food. The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is that the acoustic musicians did not add anything to the atmosphere at all and my experience would have been better without them."

  • "We were seated at a table with a great view of the market, our waitress was very attentive and friendly and the food and wine were excellent, as always. We visit twice a year on average as (for us at least) this is a bit of a treat. Not cheap but always very good."

  • "Have had no problems before, been a number of times . This time not so good Ordered toast with main breakfast , main turns up warm not hot no toast . End up getting toast after finishing main Latte to strong had to redo."

  • "Went to Roast with 3 friends on Friday evening, booked through top table as they had offers for £30 per head for a 3 course meal. We had the booking confirmed and turned up on time, can't fault the restaurant but the Sea Bass ordered by my friends was no bigger than a filleted sprat. I had the roast pork belly which was superb. All was well we had a great evening despite the small fish fiasco, got the bill £310 told they don't accept top table offers, had to pay total rip off"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Although busy, we were seated as soon as we arrived, and informed the wait could be up to 25 minutes for our main course - it was a lot quicker. The food was well presented, with generous portions, and we were all very satisfied with our choices. The staff were polite and attentive. Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and I hope to return."

  • "Another splendid meal at Roast. Very friendly staff, just superb food - the Beef Wellington was exemplary - and a nice sensible wine list to match. The carafes are such a good idea too. It doesn't get much better."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Was given a blank stare when I asked if the set menu includes a vegetarian option and service was not what I've got elsewhere but great variety and food when it was served. Great selection of wines also and the view is undoubtedly great."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "Food and the service were very good. We had originally booked for the £0 for 3 course deal, but on arrival were told the special of the day was off leaving a very limited choice so ended up having a la carte."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Definitely one of the best British cuisine restaurant in London. And though this has a cost, I really think it is worth it."

  • "Myself and my wife were warmly greeted and taken to our table. The whole was alive and cheerful and the setting was just right. The food was excellent, the young lady who served us was excellent and funny as well. Thank you for making my wife very happy"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "The three course set menu Roast offers on a Sunday had a nice level of variety. The starters were excellent, but I found that my chicken was slightly on the salty side. However you certainly can't knock the portion sizes. The apple crumble pudding was delicious."
    dined on 06/04/2014
  • "The good was awful and a fortune!! I've had better roasts down my local pub!!! Will never go back and will not be recommending this place... A waste of £450. Was meant to be a special family lunch... Push chair was not allowed into the restaurant so we had to wake the baby up who was all groggy and I had to try and eat my meal with the baby on my lap... Will never go to this place again.. Can't believe it was so highly recommended!!!"

  • "We visited Roast on a Thursday night and were surprised how hectic the service was. The noise level was extremely high and there were contrary to the the website menu only very few vegetarian options. disappointed, not worth the price."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "We did the £30 three course menu and started with the Beetroot salad. Looked pretty and tasted fresh but could have done with more orange and "zest" forgive the pun. Had fish for the main which was disappointing as served on the bone- which always takes up far too much time picking the sharp bones out and leaves me feeling I haven't eaten enough. Butter and caper sauce was lovely.. Bit it deserved a side that didn't need to paid for as an extra. Dessert was a rather moist and and delicious date and toffee pudding- main disappointment there was a tiny blob of ice cream which was stuck on top of te pudding and consequently was a "milky sauce" by the time I received it.."

  • "This was my second visit to Roast. My first visit was exeptional. However, this visit was just ok. The service was a bit slapdash and the food was ok, but not fantastic. The meat was a bit dry this time."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "really enjoyed our first time at roast, food was great and staff very attentive"

  • "My wife and I booked lunch for two on a Saturday and had no problems getting a table but as per other reviews it can be quite noisy. The staff were excellent, setting the right balance of being efficient without making us feel rushed (our visit was pretty much on the 2 hour table limit they set). We had the set 3-course menu food which was very tasty although the burger my wife had was on the rare side of medium-rare so consider this when specifying your level of 'done-ness'. Wine options were good (price and variety) but other drinks were a little over priced. I would recommend this to friends and will probably go again to sample the a la carte menu (if I can drag myself past the wonderful food in the market downstairs!)"

  • "Food and wine were fabulous. We went for a date night. Disappointing start, it took 15 minutes to get us seated and then we were placed inbetween two rowdy parties and my seat was next to the waitors station with the till and glasses etc, which meant my chair was being constantly knocked. There were plenty of tables suited for couples on the other side of the room, away from the noisy parties and the waitors till. I dont think I should have to have asked to be moved, but when I did, it wasn't an issue. Apart from that, a very enjoyable evening."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Fantastic food, and helpful staff when they were there, but they seemed over stretched. Booked for a treat for my Dad, and the food definitely delivered but we were cramped right next to another table and were often overlooked / forgotten by the waiters."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "I took my mum to Roast for lunch on Mothers Day 30th March. Food was outstanding. very enjoyable experience. Thank you to the chef!"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Roast is always good. The service is great as is the food. It's a bit pricey but you certainly get what you pay for."

  • "Food and service very good but overly expensive. It's also very noisy. Recommend to a friend? Perhaps for the location."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "We had been looking forward very much to dining at Roast, the location is fabulouse but sadly the food and service were average. We were also put at a window table cramped into a corner, that was difficult to access due to the proximity to other tables and spent the whole evening freezing cold."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Another excellent meal chez Roast at Borough Market. Nice staff, splendid food, no fuss and reasonable prices. The wines are good too."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "The set lunch is the value way to eat at Roast - our lunch for two came in at £125 including wine, about half what I have previously paid! The soup and baby parsnip options were both fine and the burgers were excellent, as were the puddings."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Not as good as we'd come to expect from reviews and word of mouth. Have been wanting to go for some time but found it not so wonderful. We were disappointed. We will go back if we can't think of other options or want a very simple and slightly bland meal."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "A bit pricey for lunch time but all good . Pleasant atmosphere would like to try in the evening . Very generous portions sticky toffee pudding absolutely delicious."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "I went to Roast after hearing positive reviews from a number of colleagues... and it didn't disappoint. The food is excellent, service possibly a litle too 'white table' for a breakfast but they are professional and attentive. Value is pretty good given the quality of the food but it is definitely not cheap and cheerful. An excellent place for a business breakfast."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "Roast was the ideal venue for my business dinner and provided great food and excellent service."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "Sunday brunch. I had eggs royal and my boyfriend had devilled duck hearts on toast with a duck egg. Both were absolutely delicious, the hollandaise sauce on mine was really well made and fresh, & the smoked trout was lovely. My only complaint was that my poached egg was underdone, some of the white was still runny, which really grosses me out - but that's a personal preference and I should have asked them to cook it well, like I usually do (I assumed I didn't have to!). In addition we had a delicious Bloody Mary each - mine with whiskey and vodka, my boyfriend's with tequila. They also do a 'classic'. The tables are very close together which isn't ideal, but the service was friendly, the place was warm and the food was great."
