Restaurant SauterelleGreat service, reasonable foodI went to the restaurant for dinner with an ex colleague. Fantastic ambience, overlooking the courtyard in the Royal Exchange. Food was good, although it didn't quite knock my socks off. The cheese trolley girl was interesting, seemed to be pushing for all the milder goat cheeses (strange for a French restaurant) and then gave us very little of everything, including, when we asked for some celery sticks, "would you like one or two celeries?" Nonetheless it was a good experience, we had a lovely time.11/06/2013 00:00:00Lunch with clientsVery helpful, firendly staff, nice setting and excellent food. As French restaurants go, the price was reasonable, although, perhaps unsurprisingly, the portion sizes were slightly on the small side and sides are therefore recommended with the main. There was a slight wait between courses when the restaurant was otherwise not too busy, but a minor issue.06/06/2013 00:00:00This restaurant has such aThis restaurant has such a relaxing feeling, that I didn't want to leave, combined with an excellent service and delicious food, beautiful surroundings and wine, you couldn't ask for more!05/06/2013 00:00:00Restaurant SauterelleI met a client for lunch at Restaurant Sauterelle - fantastic venue, very elegant and the food was superb but the service was really poor, we had to keep asking for the same things and basic things and although food great very expensive! Not good value at all.04/06/2013 00:00:00ExcellentI booked a table for lunch. The booking process was very simple and easy through the restaurant's web-page. My special request was taken care of very well.
On arrival we were greeted by the charismatic host who showed us to our table. The staff are very attentive and professional.
The food was simply outstanding and in line with the prices you would expect from a good restaurant in the city.
Book this restaurant for a great view, excellent staff and delicious food.30/05/2013 00:00:00Best value tasting menuIt doesn't take long to clock that ordering a la carte at Sauterelle will cost considerably more than going for the tasting menu, which offers a selection of five seasonal dishes. I did not expect, however, that these dishes would all be full sized, making this the best value meal I've eaten all year. And a mighty fine one, too. Only blemishes: a very tough, cold white baguette reminiscent of airplane bread, and a Sicilian gazpacho which could do with a huge pinch of salt. Otherwise, the dishes were absolutely outstanding: a moist and flaky red mulled, and the most tender, juicy of lambs. Seasonings perfect and accenting the food, veggies seasonal, crisp and alive. I absolutely recommend Sauterelle for supper - but choose the brown bread.17/05/2013 00:00:00Fascinating setting., lookingFascinating setting., looking down on to courtyard effect. Friendly, helpful, patient staff. My rillettes 'tho tasty, were far more oily & cloying than the norm. 1 companion felt the mackerel starter undercooked. we 3 had gurnard - cauliflower puree garnish to die for & rest fresh & tasty. 2 of us chose cheese - 'tho a French one, the disappointment was in the taste of ordinary cheddar. My chocolate tart was the best, strong bitter choc. with crisp pastry. Orange chantilly delicious .tho would've preferred ice cream. Good mint tea served in delightfully diinky glass pot.29/04/2013 00:00:00The overall service was beautifulThe overall service was beautiful and the location wow breath taking .26/04/2013 00:00:00A special eveningWe went to Sauterelle for a celebratory evening meal. The waiters were very friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We dined on the Kir Royal Offer, which was good value for money at £25 for three courses and a Kir Royal. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The location of the restaurant is amazing. A special evening.26/04/2013 00:00:00The manager was very niceThe manager was very nice and accomadating. Food was great for the deal! excellent value!18/04/2013 00:00:00Fabulous as alwaysAfter a diabolical situation at the Mint Leaf Lounge in Angel Court where the staff refused to serve us the set menu when we were five minutes late, we popped over the road to Sauterelle where we received five star service, dined on delicious food and over all had a very pleasant evening. I would highly recommend Sauterelle but would avoid Mint Leaf - there is no competition!17/04/2013 00:00:00great dinnergreat value, attentive service and pleasant surroundings made for a good evening at Sauterelle12/04/2013 00:00:00Elegant diningAn elegant dining experience. Enjoyed overlooking the floor of the Royal Exchange whilst eating. Food was good but not special. Service was very professional.11/04/2013 00:00:00Relaxing ambienceEnjoyed 3 course set menu which included kir royale. Very pleasant to have relaxing meal, while overlooking the interior of Royal Exchange. A very welcoming venue. Service very attentive without being over-bearing. Food delicious.10/04/2013 00:00:00Restaurant SauterelleThis is the second time I had been to Sauterelle. The service is outstanding and the food was all delicious. I would defintiely recommend this for romantic dinners, or dinner with friends09/04/2013 00:00:00Seafood delightsThe halibut and razor clam dish served at our lunch at Sauterelle was exquisite, and made the meal memorable. Spanish white by the carafe was the perfect complement. Not cheap, but worth paying a bit more for a special fish dish.19/03/2013 00:00:00SauterelleAnother good meal on the TT offer. Excellent value for money with the glass of fizz. Food was fine. A botle of white rioja was poor tasting of nothing. The second bottle was better. It was provided with no argument after a discussion on how disappointng the first was. The walk to the loos is a long one but overall a good experience in a fine building. We enjoyed ourselves.19/02/2013 00:00:00Nice placeWe celebrated Valentine's Day at this restaurant a day after, The place is very nice, clean and elegant.
However, we missed the music! There was no music and we think that it would have given the place more
appeal. We like soft music and wanted to talk while having our dinner so, a nice and relaxing music in the
background could have been good. The food and the service were excellent so, we would recommend it and
bring friends and relatives to celebrate special occasions.15/02/2013 00:00:00Wonderful Valentine's DayMe and my boyfriend had dinner at Sauterelle on Valentine's Day and it was the best V-day we both have ever spent. Not only was the food excellent, but the wine pairings made the dining experience even more enjoyable plus the staff was beyond our expectations. We will be coming here again on our next journey to London.14/02/2013 00:00:00Civilised lunch break for the busyWe work nearby, and wanted to go out for lunch for a good catch up. The restaurant was just perfect. Generous servings of prosecco, amuse-bouche, and the set menu was varied enough. The ambience of the venue is superb. I love the Royal Exchange with its classic and modern elegant cohabitation. The restaurant fits the place so well. In comparison with the bar/cafe at the ground level, the restaurant is so much more relaxed and good for conversation. Highly recommended.08/02/2013 00:00:00Business LunchI'm almost a regular here now, thanks to the special offer on 3 courses. Superb service and food make this a great place to take people and having been here more than a few times it has never disappointed.17/01/2013 16:00:00Sauterelle great for lunchGreat value lunch and delicious food. Will be returning again16/01/2013 16:00:00Great lunch at SauterelleWe had a delicious 3 course lunch with a glass of champagne which was all very good value and also very tasty too. Great for lunch, lovely location. Would definitely go again.10/01/2013 16:00:00Superb VenueHad a business lunch with good food and attentive service. To be able to fit a good meal into an hour and not feel rushed was excellent. I shall be back !08/01/2013 16:00:00very good service, everythingvery good service, everything is just fine and perfect!07/01/2013 16:00:00Consistent cooking & ambienceRestaurant Sauterelle has become a bit of a safe bet for me. As with most D&D restaurants, cooking is safe & consistent, staff well trained, friendly (if rather corporate in style) & efficient. Consistent with this theme was a rather bland smoked mackerell rilette for starters & main course was nice safe mushroom risotto. Star of lunch was a shared sticky toffee pudding. Pricing is not particularly cheap but not overly expensive either. View over the Royal Exchange court is impressive & adds to the ambience. This is a good option for entertaining overseas or out of town clients/contacts (who are always impressed by the setting) but somehow it lacks a real wow factor for me. Will return when another safe option for dinner is required03/01/2013 00:00:00A pre-Christmas lunch at LeA pre-Christmas lunch at Le Sauterelle with my ex-boss - not my first visit here, but it is proving to be a consistently good experience.
I was pleased they were still offering a fixed price menu, despite it being a busy Christmas period, but we actually chose from the a la carte, which proved to be worthwhile.
Lovely food, very attentive service - as always, the only downside here is the long trek to the toilets - and after a couple of glasses of fine wine, those steep winding stairs pose a problem!
This restaurant is always worth a visit when you're in the square mile.17/12/2012 16:00:00Deliver's everytime.....If you looking for something that deliver's every single time from a food, service and quality perspective then I can't recommend this enough. Try the plum rice pudding, delicious !26/11/2012 16:00:00Good set menuWe eat from the 2/3 course set menu. An acceptable level of choice but very good value. Would recommend.21/11/2012 00:00:00Hadn't been to SauterelleHadn't been to Sauterelle for a couple of years and was impressed by the food and service. The only slight complaint that my guests had their steaks cut up for them even though they are both the wrong side of 40 (the diners not the steaks). Rather bizarre. Great location too.20/11/2012 00:00:00Spectacular surroundingsI have dined at Sauterelle several times and the food there is consistently good, as is the extremely efficient and thoughtful service14/11/2012 16:00:00Winning combination!Great food (dessert was particularly impressive!), good atmosphere and friendly, helpful service. Also very conscientious about my allergies.06/11/2012 16:00:00Went for th fixed price menu.Went for th fixed price menu. Good food with friendly service. Great place to catch up with friends in a lovely ambience.31/10/2012 00:00:00Sauterelle serves great foodfood and ambience and service all great. Been lots. Never disappointed29/10/2012 00:00:00City Catch-up - SauterelleI booked Sauterelle for a catch up with a friend who was in town as the venue is great - I do like the Exchange. The service was very nice and attentive, the food (set course menu) was lovely and the atmosphere great. I will definitely go here again!14/10/2012 16:00:00Lovely food with great serviceWe had the 3 courses for £25 menu. This provided 3 choices for the courses, all of which looked nice. The food was beautifully presented with great flavours. The service was very attentive without being OTT. Would certainly recommend.12/10/2012 00:00:00Sauterelle - Royal Exchange EC3Everything about this restaurant is lovely. We dined on the £25 for 3 courses plus glass of prosecco. We had a great table overlooking the Royal Exchnage bar below. Service was charming, but not stuffy, and although the special offer menu was small, our waiter still took the time to describe the dishes. The food itself was beautifully presented, and delicious.
The bottle of wine we chose (Merlot) was also well-priced, and no more expensive than other rstaurants in the City.
Our whole dining experience was very good, and would recommend this restaurant for either business meestings, or simply eating out with friends/partner04/10/2012 00:00:00Ladies at lunchLunch at Restaurant Sauterelle was an excellent experience. Food was lovely in reasonable portions. The ham hock starter was delicious. A complimentary cheese straw with anchovy cream was a nice touch. Only downside is the location of the toilets.17/09/2012 00:00:00LOVELY SETTING LOVELY FOODthe restaurant is situated on a balcony over looking what would have been the trading floor of the exchange. It is grand and imposing but the restaurant manages to engender an intimate feel. We had gorgeous food - the courgette risotto was particularly delicious - still crunchy whilst the rice was thick and creamy. Altogether good value at £25 for 3 generous courses plus a glass of champagne. We have eaten in a number of restaurants in this area of the City through toptable and this was the best.28/08/2012 00:00:00Great venue, lovely restaurantLa Sauterelle is just a lovely restaurant in a great setting, for a semi-formal lunch. The food was very good indeed, even with the TT menu, and quantities were ample. Service very good also.
Would highly recommend.13/08/2012 00:00:00Great service & nice foodI suspect that it isn't the only City restaurant that's empty during the Olympics but a little weird nevertheless. Food was very good as usual and service great given the lack of other diners!06/08/2012 00:00:00Pre OlympicsBooked the 3 course with fizz for £25 as we were meting friends who had been to the Olympics, food as usual was very good from the set menu and the fizz just added that extra sparkle. The venue is great although it was much quieter than I would have expected - so lots of people missing out on this great deal.31/07/2012 00:00:00All round superb !Second time here, this time with a group of 7 with a round table. Went for 5 course taster menu which was excellent. Good helpful service and little to find fault with overall.24/07/2012 16:00:00Business Lunch at SauterelleThe two course lunch at Sauterelle in the mezzanine at Royal Exchange proved to be good value and two excellent seafood courses. Highly recommended.16/07/2012 00:00:00Fantastic service, great foodWe booked the set menu/glass of prosecco deal which was good value. The choices were limited but good and the service was outstanding. Although not very busy on a Friday night, the buzz from the cafe below makes its way up to the first floor and it's great to people watch in a quiet moment, or while you wait for your friends to arrive. We will go again.28/06/2012 16:00:00impressive!the food was excellent - I have no idea how they make fish taste so good - and the service impeccable. Theere were (understandably) few other diners on the Monday evening so ambience wasn't great; but I would gladly take my wife here on a Friday/Saturday evening. Beautiful location, right on top of Bank station.18/06/2012 00:00:00Outstanding - Highly RecommendI gave Sauterelle a try purely from seeing it on toptable. Went for the 5 courses for £35 for a business lunch. The service was excellent and we did get through all 5 courses within the hour. All courses were themselves excellent. I shall be back !12/06/2012 16:00:00Restaurant Sauterelle at BankRestaurant Sauterelle at Bank in London is an exceptional business lunch venue. The service was impeccable, unobtrusive and very discrete. The food was superb and of the highest quality. Can not recommend highly enough. If possible request a table over the balcony so you can get the full effect of the stunning Royal Exchange below.31/05/2012 16:00:00This reviewer was not ableThis reviewer was not able to attend in person, but the other three dinner companions did not want to miss out, so relata refero: I will tell you what I was told by them.
"Excellent", "right up my street", "10 out of 10 on all counts".
I will have to book again soon, it seems14/05/2012 16:00:00Delicious food, a beautifulDelicious food, a beautiful venue and great value with the Toptable deal.08/05/2012 16:00:00
