A great find on the river
A great find on the river in a handy location. Nice twist with it being situated in an old petrol filling station with great atmosphere. Excellent service. Food was filling and tasty. Novel nibbles to start.
Enjoyed a meal for four at Shrimpy's. Beer on the terrace to begin was pleasant, the restauarant inside is small but funky. Went for the obligatory soft shell crab burger which was pretty good. Cocktails are fine, wine list quite good. Overall an enjoyable meal.
Great for dinner with friends
After some initial issues finding the place (GPS was right, instinct was wrong) we were still a little arly so found ourselves a bench outside and settled in for a couple of pre-dinner frozen margaritas which was delicious. The staff had recognised our request not to be sat up at the bar and so we began. No request was too small for the staff to respond to - from, 'Could we please have alcohol in the non-alcoholic cocktails?' to 'What on earth is this?'. It was reasonably pricey for a casual dinner out with friends, but we were all too glad to pay.
This was our second time to
This was our second time to Shrimpy's and whilst the staff were lovely the service was quite poor. We had to wait ages for drinks and to order and then the bill. Also they weren't very good at coming to refill our water so we had to constantly ask. However the food was just as great as before, I'm just not sure I'll be rushing back.
Shrimpy's is fun, delicious,
Shrimpy's is fun, delicious, a place you will absolute want to hang out in. Amazing if the weather is good.
great staff and food
we found Shrimpy's an excellent place to have an evening out, the staff were friendly but not too friendly and the food was amazing. It is small enough to feel you are getting a personal service and to be able to get served quickly and have your food come within a reasonable time.
Great venue, outside dining!
Loved it here, though a bit pricey, sitting outside on a hot day was lovely and the food tasted great!
Dam fine cherry pie
We loved the Twin Peaks special at Shrimpy's, lovely coffee and the nicest cherry pie I've ever tasted. We tried the soft shell crab burger, prawn fritters and frickles and a few cocktails too but nothing was as good as the pie! Interesting venue, quite cool but food and service could be a bit better. Worth a visit.
The menu is very interesting.
The menu is very interesting. Our group was 3 people and we ordered and shared 4 sides, had a main (the soft shell crab burger is delicious) and a cocktail (try the Paloma) each which came to a reasonable £35 each with service included. The staff were very helpful with any questions we had on the dishes etc. - the outside terrace is great for evening drinks in the sun too. Woud definitely go back here!
Best dinner in a long time! Everything was great. Very well done!
Such a special place, eat outside for the first time
Food and service just right
Killer Mohito ;-)
Exacty what London needs!!
1. The Venue: great location, worried when you first see ti but then as you walk around and enter Shrimpy's you are in a hidden oasis of calm! It is basic but completely planned and thought threw. The bar and grill menu is amazing but there are a couple of tables in the main restaurant that are outside. The weather couldn't harm this location I do not think. It was warm and sheltered and I would sit out there guarded from the rain but stil alfresco!
2. The service was amazing. Our waiter was fun and knowledable and of the highest standards!
3. Food for 7 can always be a challenge and we have never all agreed before! the soft shell crab the humittas everything was amazing and overall very well priced.
I want it to stay forever!!
Love Shimpy's. The food is
Love Shimpy's. The food is fresh and spicey and the soft shelled crab burger is one of the best things ever. The ambience is a bit hipster, but in a fun way. Nice and unstuffy while feeling like a treat! Also a big fan of the humica(?), prawn fritters and frickles. We had cocktails too, they were good. Generally service is really good but we waited quite a long time for the drinks, especially the last of the cocktails - so I had to mark down there a litle.
Have been here several times in the cold seasons, and now have enjoyed dining outdoors on a lovely summer early evening which just made a quirky original all that much better. Food always good, servers are friendly and helpful, and we never fail to fully enjoy this treat when in the Kings Cross area.
Great place for lunch!
Lots of fun with the mariachi band livening things up on a Sunday lunchtime, although for some of our party a bit much with a hangover. Service was excellent and the food good if a little over priced. Only downside was the smelly toilets and we were sat right by the door. One of the pitfalls of having portaloos in your pop up.
Excellent lunch at Shrimpy's and great location if catching a train from Kings Cross.
Will definitely go again before its knocked down in 2014, remember its a pop up!
I'm a frickle convert
Dinner in a petrol station, who doesn't want that?! I had the frickles (deep fried pickles) and the soft shell crab burger - both were delicious! Menu a little on the pricey side for what you get, but otherwise a lovel evening and would reccommend to those looking for an unusual location.
California in ... Kings Cross
Architecturally this temporary restaurant is a delight: it rejoices in its origins as a petrol station, with outdoor dining under the canopy where the pumps used to be, and indoor dining in the old 7-11, the whole thing turned from road-facing to canal-facing with a simple undulating plastic screen. The food combines this ambience with a Californian/Mexican vibe: of the starters, seabass ceviche is the one to go for; of the mains, the soft shell crab burger is equally unmissable -- if you can stand crunching into all those little pincers. Otherwise the Ahi is good, and the creole poussin nicely zingy. Service was a bit over the top on my last visit, but overall one of those places that makes you think how extraordinary London is these days.
Three of us had the tremendously good value 3 course deal.
It meant having to order before 18:00h, but that suited us fine.
Plenty of options on the menu - we had a pescetarian with us - we were all more than happy with our dishes.
Had to sit inside as the terrace was full but that was not a problem.
Decent wine list.
There is also a walk in grill bar as well that looked fun and tasty.
On a good day the outside option would be the favoured option.
Good food, good location
Went here for a birthday lunch with work colleagues and the service was very prompt, and the food was good and reasonably priced. Nice location by the canal with options for indoor and outdoor seatings. Would definitely recommend the softshell crab burger and the frickles. Will definitely be coming back!
Incredible in the Sunshine
This may be a rather rose tinted view of Shrimpy's, but sitting outside, under the retro garage canopy, bathed in golden sunlight, watching barges drift by, this was my favourite summer dining experience. The friendly, patient waiter explained the southern American dishes that I didn't recognise which turned out to be delicious squishy corn, great steak, a light yet rich pork stew served with avocado salad. We really loved the battered shrimp, the soft shell crab burger and the sundaes for dessert. The wine was very good at the price.
After reading a bad review in TimeOut and on other websites I almost cancelled my booking. Maybe it was because I had such low expectations that I was so pleasantly surprised by Shrimpys. The setting is great. Even though it is housed in the cabin of a former petrol station, its small size makes for an intimate diner type setting and the velvet covered banquettes and pineapple lamps are very 'hipster chic'. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the menu varied and interesing and the food delicious and well priced. The highlight was the grilled squid appetiser but their signature soft shell crab burger was delicious too. Highly recommended and would gladly return.
A rare thing indeed, almost all of the dishes were new to me in some way. A lovely fusion of Californian and South American flavours and the staff were delightful. Hats off to Shrimpy's :-)
Always a great time at shrimpy's good food, great service and great fun location.
Shrimpy's pop-up restaurant in Kings Cross is housed in a converted petrol station and the surprises don't end there. The food is an eclectic mix of American and Mexican and what my friend and I ate was very tasty - prawn fritters, soft crab burger and Pork Pokole - a spicy stew. Wine list was fine and the service charming. Will take the wife next time.
Good food in a chilled atmosphere
Lovely place with a chilled out atmosphere. Food was different but very tasty. Nice place for a mid week catch up. Staff very friendly. Would def go back again.
I think it needs to be communicated clearer that the menu is Mexican-inspired. I am not a big fan of tortilla chips or spicy food. The menu items I chose on my visit were overspiced and contained too much onion and garlic too, overpowering the star ingredients such as fish or vegetables. The restaurant is a cute little hideaway place with limited seating and cool interior design, the staff are also nice & friendly, so the atmosphere is nice but the food could be improved..
Tasty but rushed
This was our second time to Shrimpys - I had to taste the crab burger again! It must be their most popular dish, but it was fantastic, again. We also tried their signature dish, the Ahi, which was melt in your mouth delicious. Unfortunately they really had to rush us through the meal as they needed the table, which was a shame.
Pre Birthday Celebrations
Lovely venue and excellent service made all the food we ate taste 10 times better. Two of us opted for the soft shell crab burger, which was super crisp and had well seasoned batter. The poussin was not as billed, which was disappointing (i.e. small wins rather than a whole bird). The sweatcord side is divine, rich and buttery with lashings of garlic - real comfort food. With Prosecco on tab I'm looking forward to my next visit!
Best evening out for a while
Everything is so well thought through, from the decor and quirky menu to the outdoor bar and ambience. Top notch service, different and delicious food...I'll be returning next week for drinks with friends!
Fun night on the forecourt
I couldn't picture how the night would be eating out at Shrimpy's. We got there and the place instantly felt lively in a cool but not too cool way, there was a good crowd there and it was nice to sit out and overlook the water. The waitress who served us was really friendly and knew the menu well. We ate on the terrace bit outside and it was nice to be at a restaurant that felt different to soho, had good portions that tasted great and was a little quirky.
Really glad we tried it and will be back.
Great location great food portions generous ( TWO ! )Crabs
Very small so book table but ask to sit away from kitchen doors
Speedy service felt a bit rushed
Defo go back
We were a small group and we had a nice experience.
Great and interesting food,
Great and interesting food, cool venue overlooking canal, and perky service. Price slightly toppy (mains come with nothing so sides add up quickly) but overall experience good and slightly quirky. Will return.
Fantastic food and attentive service - the tuna ahi main is devine!!!
Great early bird menu - order before 6pm and have 3 courses for £17.50!
Highly recommend this lovely intimate restaurant.
fun venue and nice to see
fun venue and nice to see kings cross have something nice to go to. Not cheap for what you get but good food
Good food, friendly staff
Good food, friendly staff with a lovely atmosphere to boot.
Blustery saturday night
A perfect hide away just a stones throw from Kings cross, Shrimpys served us delicious food in a cosy buzzy atmosphere. The soft shell crab lived up to expectations and the slaw is fabulous. Although we struggled to find room for a pudding, it was well worth the effort! Rounded off the night with a wander round the fountains at st martins.
Food was excellent. Cocktails
Food was excellent. Cocktails expensive. Service was excellent. Made us feel special .
Hash & Eggs can't go wrong
Came for brunch beef shin has & a poached egg with a side of Hot Mac and cheese could not have asked for a better start to the day.
Interesting menu which was
Interesting menu which was well explained by the staff. Good wine list with some reasonably priced good wines. Great location, small dining room but not cramped. A variety of well cooked staples and more unusual choices too. I recommend the prawn fritters to start and the cheese burger.
Great use of an old filling
Great use of an old filling station, lovely decor and delicious chocolate sundaes
Fab food. Small capacity. Bit pricy
Great location - easy 2min walk from King's Cross. not many tables but even with so few, they seem reluctant to take any larger booking as the kitchen can't handle it. Menu was amazing. Loved the choices and proper brunch choices amongst it. Two vege friends seemed pretty happy. The bill was way more than we expected.
lovely Sunday lunch
We ate there this Sunday in a group of 4 including a vegetarian and all found the food excellent, the atmosphere lovely and the overall experience really enjoyable. Would recommend for a nice Sunday brunch/ lunch or dinner. The lunch menu (where you can choose 3 courses) is great value for money
London is full of pop ups and I do my fair share of travelling around to try things I've read about, heard about. I don't like to be on trend so never fight my way in at the start of a new restaurants' opening... the counter side to this tactic is we can go to places when they've, well, stopped making the effort... easier to get into and to have a relaxed time but the food can sometimes suffer. Not Shripmy's, I want to go back and work my way through the menu - really interesting and unusual flavours, I described it to a mate as Gulf Of Mexico inspired food, probably wrongly, but there you go!
Everything went well, great
Everything went well, great service, good cocktails, amazing crab burger and fries only let down was my burger which was a little to rare and a tad cold for my liking.
I ate here on a Sunday and it was good. We sat outside with the heating on which was lovely. The food was good typical of an american style diner. The crab burger was very good, the burger did not match up to it. Try the frickles!!! amazing. Very nice cocktails.
The service was good although our water glasses were empty on quite a few occasions and we had to ask for them to be filled. I would have preferred to have a jug on the table so we could help ourselves. I also had to ask for the cocktail menu again after my drink was left empty for 5 mins. Although saying this perhaps it would have been better if we had sat inside.
Would recommend it for a relaxed lunch.
Food was nice, but nothing
Food was nice, but nothing amazing. Probably the same standard that you'd expect in a gastro pub. However, the atmosphere was fab, the drinks (pisco sour = yum) were in line with bar prices and the staff were excellent (couldn't fault them!). Had a really enjoyable evening sitting at the bar munching on chicken, steak and the fabulous apple pie.
We probably wouldn't go back again soon, but really enjoyed the experience.
The Pop-Up that never goes down!
There's a reason why Shrimpy's is still here, almost a year after it's planned pop-up timeline.
Perfect combination of hidden gem, cool vibe, amazing team and great food.
Always a pleasure.
My husband and I had a great evening at Shrimpy's - I highly recommend it for a night out.
