Great Peruvian Restaurant!
I went to Tierra Peru with my partner - what a great experience! The food was devine - had Tamales and ceviche as starters and lamb for main. Absolutely delicious and the waiter was very friendly and passionate about the food!
Will definitely come back and bring my friends! A true new gem in Essex Road / Islington!
a perfect peruvian; thank you
fabulous food - the fish dishes sing with freshness, taste and spice, perfect pisco sour, sensational service - so warm, helpful and friendly, amazing atmosphere - I can't recommend Tierra Peru enough. My partner & I loved our visit and as we were far too full for anything but coca tea for dessert promise we'll be back to try one honestly! Again many thanks to all involved in providing us with an excellent evening.
Good one!! : )
A really good option to share time with friends, good service, delicious original taste of the best Peruvian Food, it is quite nice environment even if little, definitively recommended.
Delicious food, good service,
Delicious food, good service, tables a little bit together, but everything else excellent.
Good food, excellent service
Food was tasty. Service was quick, polite, and helpful as we got recommendations when I asked for them. I'll be going back.
Great valentines day mith the mrs
Perfect, great service great food, great ambience great people best Peruvian restaurant in Europe
Delicious and innovative taste Peru
We choose a table by the window in the warm interior.
Ordered Pisco drinks, the waitress told us about the purple maize one and passion fruit, both were delicious.
I had a large ceviche, beautifully presented with fried plantain and corn on top. It was sharp, salty and very spicy, basically a good ceviche. My friend had deep fried pork. Cassava fritters and ajo and cheese dip made the dish.
Tempted by dessert, the alfajores were amazing dulce de leche filled biscuits and the apple tart delivered too.
It's great to go to a restaurant and want to try nearly everything on the menu. The food is interesting although not gourmet. The ingredients especially the fish were good quality.
Really enjoyed my trip to Tierra Peru. The Ceviche de pescado was amazing and as good as the ceviche I had when in Peru. Love that giant corm, gotta find out where to get that here!
Mains were good too although had to wait a little while for them to come. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Friendly and full of flavour
I have never eaten Peruvian food before, so have no basis for comparison, but on its own merit, the food at this smartly designed, friendly restaurant, is wonderful. There is a a blend of the rustic with the exotic in almost every dish, making for a genuinely new (for me) and very enjoyable eating experience. Also to be commended are the wide range of pisco based cocktails, the Pirana being a particular winner for those of you who like mojito or margheritas. The wine menu too, seems solid, and is reasonably priced.
My dining partner for the evening has worked extensively in Peru (hence the choice of cuisine for our date), and she was impressed by both the menu and execution of the dishes we chose.
Peru Flavour in London
A small restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. The menu is varied and reflects the Peruvian cuisine well. Cocktails are delighful as is the Pisco! Food well presented, flavoursome and portion size is good.
Very local and couldn't believe
Very local and couldn't believe how busy it was - had to book in advance and wait about 5 minutes for a table. The service is not quick but the food was worth waiting for. Very friendly staff and didn't push us out even tho we were still at our table after midgnight!
Would definitely recommend but please book beforehand - it gets very busy
Peru in the Big Smoke
Don't pass this place by! Quaint decor but some of the best & authentic Peruvian food in London! While waiting for a friend, I munched on a pan-fried spiced corn and nuts dish washed down with Peruvian pine-apple and cinnamon limonade. Traditional ceviche (think White Sea bass sashimi garnished with plantane chips, corn and fresh onion) to start. Large portions were served as mains- the lamb dish and the duck and green risotto. Execellent! Lastly, we split an exotic fruit cheesecake that tasted like toffee/maple syrup and the dulce de leche topped with meringue. Staff were very attentive and offered us a mint cacao shot as they wanted to put our table together to accommodate for other guests. Bit pricey, but an excellent foodie experience!
we had a great time
food was delicious, service good, ambiente nice, we ordered stuff that has been recommended by the waiter as a traditional dish and likes all of it...
Excellent food, surprising
Excellent food, surprising variety, something for conservative diners and the more adventurous. Service friendly and willing, if slightly eccentric but would only be a problem to a stickler.
Only downside was they tried to put us on the table near the door, which opens wide and it was freezing cold. They willingly moved us when we asked but by the time we left restaurant was too crowded for whoever had the short straw to do the same.
We had a briliant dinner here. The waiter was super friendly, and very helpful in recommending the best authentic Peruvian food (without being pushy), which meant that we tried some things we mightn't otherwise have gone for. But it was completely worth it - the food was a revelation: the ox-heart entree was one of the tastiest things I've eaten, and both our main courses were also delicious. When we got the bill they'd accidentally added one item that we hadn't eaten, but when we pointed it out they were very apologetic and quickly rectified it. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, and will definitely be going back.
A very good Peruvian restaurant
With the single exception of a complaint of small bones in the chicken dish, we were VERY satisfied with our experience in Tierra Peru. Though a small restaurant it is nicely decorated with photos and pictures of Peru, and a continuous video about the main sites in Peru is looped and runs, without sound, over the bar.
The website gives the impression of very heavy food with thick sauces. This is not the case, the food is filling but not heavy. All three dishes were delicious; and the special desserts, above all the cheesecake were top quality
My husband and I went to Tierra Peru to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was delicious! The ceviche was the star of the night -- we regretted not ordering the large ceviche! Ambiance was lovely and romantic. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We loved Tierra Peru and will definitely return.
Great food, not what I expected
Definitely try the Cebiche and the local cocktail (I forget the name).
The restaurant has great food, great pisco sour and great staff. What more could you want?
Good food, ceviche, fried
Good food, ceviche, fried pork, seafood risotto and deserts were all good and dishes were interesting. Pisco sour's were great.
Great food, especially ceviche.
Great food, especially ceviche. Pisco sours were really nice too. Bit noisy.
Excellent food friendly service
We went as a small group of friends and found the food very good and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant is not very big so it is probably limited to smaller groups. The ceviche was very yummy. We ordered a large one to share. My creamy seafood stew was very tasty. It's overall very good.
Very good food, especially
Very good food, especially if you love fish and seafood.
The restaurant was cosy and the staff bery kind, even though not really quick.
But I would recommend the place to everybody, as the dishes were really outstanding.
It was the first time I visited this place and I'm quite happy the food, restaurant and staff was 5 stars definitely coming back.
Will be back.
Fantastic service. Great food. Superb Pisco sours. Took far too long to order as everything sounded so good, we'll be returning soon to check off the dishes we missed!
Tierra Peru had really tasty dishes and cocktails and waitresses couldn't be helpful enough, recommending dishes to try. A lot of their clientelle were Peruvian themselves which reiterated the authenticity of the cooking, as has been me roomed numerous times in other reviews. Would definitely return. Disappointed that despite making a special request for a celebration dessert, there was no reply and no mention of it on the night by the staff in the restaurant, and I didn't bring this up in front of the guest that I was dining with for obvious reasons.
Peruvian taste in London!
I've just been there for lunch and I've really enjoyed it!
From what we ordered these are the top for us:
Starter: Tamal de pollo
Main: Aji de gallina
Dessert: Cheescake de Lucuma
Drink: Pisco Sour (paisson fruit)
However there are some many other good things to enjoy! So....just give a try! :)
(I am from Perù so you can trust me! ;)!!)
First time in a Peruvian restaurant, and loved it. The food was well presented and interesting, particularly ceviche, which was fresh and delicious. Fish was much tastier than seafood, but that applies to all restaurants in London: these Oceanic prawns and calamari that taste very little are the rule in the UK and unless you spend a fortune, it's not easy to find good seafood. Perhaps the venue is not too comfortable, but overall we had a great night and would definitely recommend Tierra Peru.
Very good food
I really enjoy the food. It was my first time in a peruvian restaurant but I well know the cousine from other countries in Central and South America and I appreciated a lot the taste of food in Tierra Peru: it was authentic. I had a great cheviche and tamales as entree and an excellent lamb as main course. The service was good too. Maybe the ambience and the decor should be more warm. It is a little bit expensive but you pay the quality.
Another great meal and experience
My second visit and the standard remains excellent. Quality authentic Peruvian food, well presented and very friendly service. A real pleasure. Thank you
While enjoying the helpful, patient and attentive service from the lovely girls waiting the tables, we ordered Ceviche.
Since leaving Florida a few years back, we have not been satisfied with the Ceviche we had sampled in London, and had just about given up!
With this in mind, we were hopeful for something better..And we got it! A delicate and fresh mix of seafood marinated in a truly fantastic lime/cream sauce. Wifey and I agreed..The best we've ever tasted!
For main course, I ordered fried pork chuncks, which were crispy on the outside, and tender and succulent in. The wife decided on a duck leg, on a bed of cilantro rice. Cant describe just how incredible that dish was, and I strongly advise..Try it!
AAA ..5 STARS SUPERB!
went for lunch on a tuesday , unfortunately v empty but the food is fab
Red Wine was served very warm. Winelist year is not corresponding with delivered wine.
Lots of unusual dishes with
Lots of unusual dishes with Peruvian ingredients. Lots of corn-based dishes, though maybe fewer with potato than might be expected in a Peruvian. The ceviche very good. Could just stick to starters as small plates--but leave room for the wide range of puddings.
Fantastic meal and excellent
Fantastic meal and excellent service. Food is much more authentic and better value for money than other current Peruvian restaurants (eg Lima and Ceviche). Great ambience on Saturday night, and people were being turned away if they hadn't booked.
terrific tierra peru!
Peruvian perfection! - we definitely won't be leaving it so long before my partner and I return. Such sensational cebiche de pescado and even better chupe de mariscos; fresh tasting, interesting flavour packed food, and the starter sizes just the right amount for me. The pisco sours are mighty fine too. Friendly warm, helpful service and the happy warm atmosphere that contented clientele bring. Highly recommended to all.
We had a very nice night out!
We had a very nice night out! Ceviche was really good! We are coming back for sure.
Very good service and food
The service was exceptional, with the waitress recommending "typical Peruvian" drinks and dishes. The starters were amazing all around (we had scallops, Papa Huancaina (potato and cream dish - delishious!), deep fried cheese sticks and Causa Limena (chicken wrapped in mashed potato with a spicy sauce - excellent). For mains we had Picante Mariscos (seafood stew) x 2 - which was really lovely, Tacu Tacu (also very good) and Carapulcra (pork, chicken & potato stew). The Carapulcra was described on the menu as "creamy" but it was actually very fruity with no cream in sight. This is the only reason I am giving an overall score of 4 rather than 5, but in all honestly I would definitely go back and just order something different.
A little bit of colour in Islington
The London fascination with Peru contnue unabated and when I spotted this on Toptable, I decided it was an opportunity to widen my options beyond the truly excellent Lima and the ever popular Ceviche. The Pisco Sour starter here hit the spot. We went for a selction of small plates and for a Sunday lunch that was lovely. Lots of choice, colour and flavour. The service was personal and knowledgeable. At 1330 ther was s sprinkling of diners. By the time we left at 3, the place was heaving. This place has many fans and rightly so. Recommended.
Excellent food: great ceviche,
Excellent food: great ceviche, expert pisco sours. What the service may have lacked in professionalism it made up for in charm and sweetness and friendliness. But most importantly, the food was beautiful. Peruvian wine, too, which was quite ok.
Charming place, charming people
Had a lovely and interesting shared menu, consumed a lot of wine, went home happy and fulfilled.
We weren't sure from the outside but the food was fantastic and the service was good.
Very good selection
I am Peruvian and I recommend Tierra Peru. It has a good selection of Peruvian dishes. The ceviche is really good and not as spicy as other places prepare them. As vegetarians, we are very glad many of the dishes can be prepared as a veggie option. I was very impressed with the 'Aji de Gallina' vegetarian. The Picarones were lovely, unfortunately only two in the plate :-(... We went on a Saturday evening, quite noisy as there were a few groups of friends. But I recommend this place and will come back!!!
Great introduction to Peruvian food
Tierra Peru has a distinctive "strip mall" vibe, with its glass store front on Islington's Essex Road. Don't let that fool you - the food is the real deal. We enjoyed a tasting menu with Papa Huancaina, Causa Limena, Fish Cerbiche, Aji de Gallina, Jalea de Pescado, and Escabeche de Pollo. Every one of the dishes that we sampled was delicious - a fantastic introduction to Peruvian cuisine. The Pisco Sours topped off a delicious meal. The restaurant is small and can get noisy on a Friday / Saturday night. Bookings at busy times are absolutely essential. Highly recommended.
excellent quality dishes
first visit. two of us ordered cocktails, starters, mains and shared a desert and it was all tasty and used high quality ingredients. the cocktail menu is long bu mostly pisco based and ours were very good. our mixed ceviche and seafood soup staryers were delicious, well prepared and nicely presented. the mains or carapulcra and seafood with plantain were light amd tasty despite our reservations about ordering so many carbs. the extensive dessert menu is fantastic so be sure to leave room. staff very nice but place is busy and service a bit slow. will definitely go again.
Tierra Peru: worth a try!
I went to Tierra Peru with a friend, both of us having allergies and we were really taken care of. The food was more diverse than I could think of and really good. I will definitely come back
Great authentic food
Really enjoyed our meal. The food was great and authentic. The staff were friendly and efficient despite it being very busy. Would definitely recommend this place.
Inventive and imaginative
Very good and well balanced menu with plenty of vegetarian options
Good food, friendly staff
I visited on Saturday evening with a friend, and I enjoyed the food very much.
Especially the pork belly dish was amazing. There are only two of us, so we couldn't try many dishes(One main, two starters and salad), so I would like to visit again to try more.
Between the tables are close, so I needed to stand up every time people behind me went to the bathroom, so it might not the place for a romantic occasion.
I thought they booked the reservation so tight some group were waiting at the bar for the table to be available.
I felt I needed to finish our desert and drinks sooner as I could see people waiting.
But I guess it is a good sign they are busy, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, so I would love to visit again!
Great food, decent service,
Great food, decent service, a bit on the expensive side but worth it.
