As always the food was superb we had both the vegetarian & meat tasting menus and the ambience was warm & entertaining
A long history of excellence
Veeraswarmy has evolved and is a chic modern restaurant. The food is superb and service impecable. It is the oldest Indian restaurant in UK and remains probably the best.
veeraswamy sunday lunch
This was excellent and good value for a top class restaurant.
Taster menus was perfectly balanced . The combination of flavours and presentation was excellent .
excellent food, in particular
excellent food, in particular the kebab starters - a bit pricey, but given the location not surprising
service great for food, a bit slow for drinks, but the staff made a small celebration dessert for my companions, who held their wedding lunch there four years ago to the day, although we didn't tell them until we arrived
Food fit for a Raj!
Veeraswamy - one of my favourite Inidan restaurants in London. Great menu, decor, ambience and service!
I also requested a surprise birthday dessert and it was perfect fo rmy guest.
Also great with suggestions especially to accommodate portion sizes and foods that complement each other.
Another excellent meal from
Another excellent meal from this fine Indian resturant in the centre of London. Sunday lunch consisted of a juicy Tandor Chickeni Tikka starter bursting with flavour, a lamb shank and accompanying sauce which was delightful and very satisfying. My wife had her usual Puff Ball filled with yoghurt and vegetables whcih was up to its usual high standard, and the main course Chicken tikka which was served with a mild fruity delicious sauce. My only slight disappointment was that when there are some 8 starters on the changing lunch menu, there should be at least one fish or seafood starter amongst them. Their scallop starter would have been a welcome addition. Gorgeeous food!
Most probably the best Indian in to
Extremely well-located, with a very nice way of receiving customers, we arrived at the first floor and called by my own name (pretty unusual and very valuable), perfectly located tale nicely decorated, service was superb, food was amazing, atmosphere was unbelievable. A bit pricey but a fantastic experience.
A nice meal
The food was really nice and tasty. The service was not great, we arrived early by chance and were told at the door to go and come back. The lady who spoke to us was not very polite at all. When my husband asked if she could check if there was any space at the bar, she reluctantly told us that our table was ready. The waitress was not very helpful and good not answer any of my simple questions about the meal. The actual atmosphere and ambience was great and made the night. I would go back again but not in a hurry.
Warm atmosphere and great food
We had a marvellous New Years Day meal at Veeraswamy's. The staff are extremely warm and welcoming, but at the same time discreet. Our waiter was very helpful and provided useful advice when making our choices, and far from pushing us to order lots of extras, assured us we would have enough and there was no need to add more than one side dish for the 4 of us. And he was right. The food is excellent, but rather pricey. We paid £266 for 4 people (starter, main + dessert, with just one bottle of wine).
I would definitely recommend this Indian restaurant; this is the third time I've eaten there and we all had the tasting menu with wine which was lovely. The location and ambience are great, and the staff attentive; they were very helpful with a birthday request, which went well.
Authentic and sophisticated
Authentic and sophisticated Indian food. A hearty meal at a reasonable price.
First came here 50 years ago. It was good then and remains one of the icons of excellent Indian cuisine.
dinner at veeraswamy
had dinner by way of a birthday celebration. food and servce were very good. good atmosphere with an air of understated opulence. I usually go there a couple of times a year and it never disappoints.
Excellent meal at Veeraswamy's
Usually high standard of food but service was mediocre - also I think charging for a No Show is very short sighted and is a barrier to booking again.
The food, wine and atmosphere
The food, wine and atmosphere was amazing :)
I would definitely recommend this to others who love Indian food. Exciting starters, and tasty mains.
However, when it's already quite pricey, it's a bit rude to automatically add a 10% service charge to the bill. I probably would have tipped the waiter anyway, but to simply charge us was surprising.
Fantastic once again!
I brought a veggie friend here who can be a bit fussy. She loved it!
We had the pre-theatre which is fantastic value.
I will be back!
another great meal at veeraswamy
staff very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu great ambiance large family group occasion everyone pleased with their selection. biyrani very good value and tasty and bread are good. very good idea to have sugar free desserts i didnt feel left out don't see that very often in top london restaurants the sugar free chocolate sorbet is very good indeed
Eating very good, refined Indian food with a stunning view on Regent - isn't that enough? Ok, the service is very attentive and fine, too.
My two friends and I booked this for a lunch get together. We enjoyed everything about it and would definitely recommend it.
This was our first time here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The food was brilliant, couldnt fault the service and they even gave us a special dessert with a candle to celebrate our anniversary meal.
Third time and still delicious
Very nice restaurant with first rate service and sultry ambience. We did find a small piece of plastic in one portion but they replaced immediately and offered us extra portions so no criticism. Also, the toilets were a little dirty.
Had a pre-theatre meal here. Excellent attentive service, delicious food in just the right quantities. Pleasant surroundings and a superb find with views over Regent Street - great for people watching. Would definitely come here again.
Can't stop thinking about the food
Love love love this place. Service was great and food was amazing! I'm not a fan of Indian food but this totally changed my mind. Fresh n full of flavour...not overloaded with spice but everything had its own fresh wholesome flavour. Prawns tasted fresh out the sea and you could tell the lamb biriyani had been cooked for hours as the lamb was so tender and the rice so flavoursome. My partner and his friend are both Indian and said it was the best they've had. They're even thinking of taking their fussy mums here! Very highly recommended!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated like special guests. The food was first class, with fabulous flavours, generous portions, good value and attentive service. Can't fault it. Highly recommended.
We stay in London for a meeting and try this restaurant.
The food was excellent and people very kind. It is a little bit espansive but our experience Was great!
2nd visit pre theatre,delightful
2nd visit pre theatre, delightful staff, food wonderful no rushing as staff ask what time you have and deliver just that ,excellent as so often pre theatre meals are a rush and not enjoyed.
We spend a very nice evening
We spend a very nice evening ,enjoy a great meal and the pleasant atmosphere! Perfect, the next time, we will stay in London, we will come back again!
Great food and service again
Came to VS as a group of 10. They were very accommodating (even though most of my group was nearly half an hour late!) - and the food and service was as good as always.
Im sure I will visit again and I would recommend.
The pre-theatre is a fantastic deal (£20 for 2 courses) which I would throroughly recommend!
The best in London
If you have never tried this restaurant, make the effort. The staff are the best , the food is authentic and delicious , and the staff love to explain about the food if you have questions. They also are able to effortlessly make changes to a dish to suit your taste. This proved to me that the food is completely fresh and not pre made to some degree.
Try the lychee Martini before dinner.
We went to Veeraswamy for a family dinner to celebrate a special birthday. The service was brilliant from initially booking the table to dining in the restaurant. Staff are very attentive. We ordered starter which was tasty but the portions were small so not like your typical Indian restaurant where you can share! The mains were very tasty, we choice the lamb biryani and chicken biryani and I would definitely recommend these dishes. For dessert the waiters brought over a complementary ice cream selection with a candle which was a fantastic way to end the day. Restaurant ideal for a special occasion as can be a bit pricey.
We had a very nice dinner last Friday night at Veeraswamy. We received a warm welcome from the doorman in traditional Indian uniform. We chose the tasting menu and were impressed by the quality and variety of the food. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the naan. We ate better naan before. The waiters were all very friendly and added to the success of the evening. Next time we will ask to sit at a window overlooking Regent Street!
Great- you get what you pay for
This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants, without a doubt. It's a bit of a late review so I can't remember all of our food. For starters I remember we had the Vegetable bhaji's (not the name on the menu) which, along with the sauces, were amazing. Fresh, tasty and seasoned very well. I followed with Kashmiri Rogan Josh, again, unbelievably well cooked, the best lamb I'd had in a long, long time. Along with this, there we the standard rice, nan sides which were all well cooked. It WAS expensive, however, is understandable considering the great location and, more importantly, the actual food. If you want to treat someone/are celebrating, and the person loves Indian, this is the place to go. Service was great too.
One of the best meals I've recently eaten in London. And the friendliest service. Can't recommend it enough. But it's not cheap.
My first visit here and I was impressed by the superb flavours of the beautifully presented food. I will be back fir special occasions as it is a bit pricey, but well worth it. The Raj Kachori, sublime.
Excellent and most unusual Indian menu - the ginger soup and pineapple curry were worth the journey alone. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Expensive, but worth it - just
I took my youngest son to Veeraswamy as a post A-level treat and the meal was pretty expensive - £98 for two courses including one glass of wine and one soft drink. But the setting, the food and the service were all pretty special and it certainly felt like a "treat". I chose the "street food" starter which sounded intriguing, looked fantastic but was a bit disappointing taste-wise as it seemed to be consist mainly of creamy raita and lentils. Then I chose the mild chicken breast curry - which was lovely - plus sag aloo as a side. Robbie had prawn curry which he said was the best he'd tasted. The service was attentive but relaxed and friendly, and the setting was beautiful.
Yummy curry with a view (at a price
It was a great meal in London. It was a bit hard to find with major construction resulting in us being late. They only gave us a limited time at the table so we were rushed at the end. However food was delicious. Our server was fun. The view from our table magnificent. Not cheap but upscale curry!
Excellent ambience, food + service
The food was excellent even though my wife and I would have preferred a bit more vegetarian variety. First place in London I have come across that makes Raj Katchori. Ambience and the cocktails were lovely and the service was excellent. A bit pricey but I guess that is what one must pay for a quality experience. I would definitely recommend this place for special occassions.
Once again an excellent lunch,
Once again an excellent lunch, food, service and friendly staff always a pleasure
Great pre-theatre option
Superb service and thoughtful menu choices for pre-theatre goers.
Food was of good quality. The Naan bread particularly special.
great pre-theatre dinner
we often visit Veeraswamy for a pre-theatre meal and it never fails to satisfy. The food is simply delicious. My husband had the £20 set menu for two courses and the choice and quality were both good. I treated myself to Scallops and a chicken dish from the a la carte but still good value for such an upmarket restaurant in central London. Staff as ever courteous and aware of our limited time schedule.
Great experience overall!
Great experience overall! It was quite a few of us and we got a variety of starters and main dishes to share. Everything was delicious and the service superb!
Excellent food and service
Excellent food and service as always at this special restaurant
Pre theater dinner
I took my 13 year old daughter with me to veeraswamy
prior to seeing les mis. It was her first trip to London
From us. Restaurant is gorgeous. I love Indian but she
Has milder tastes. We had chicken lollipops for app. They were
Excellent. Also had chicken tikka, lemon rice, and
Best naan I have had.
Excellent wines by the glass. We loved the rose petals
on the tables.
Veeraswamy makes a big deal of it being the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK. But, it should be known for its reinvention of many tired staples of Asian food. Its subtle variations of ingredients (such as pomegranate in its raita) and the expert touch of spices always is a delight. They also surprise in their pairings of unusual beers and wines to match the food. It's more expensive than your typical Indian restaurant, but is certainly a destination venue and is even better if you're able to get a window seat over Regent Street. Highly recommended.
Good service, great food. A bit of refurbishment going on, but outside of the toilet area you dont even notice it.
I will be going back.
Sunday lunch is amazing value
I went to veeraswamy's a few years ago on business and although the food was amazing it did seem a tad expensive. My trip there the other day that was great value however. Sunday lunchtime and 3 courses from the a la carte menu for £27. This great food from the country's oldest Indian restaurant even with drink and tip comes in at under £40 per head.
The restaurant itself looks great also with a view which overlooks Regent street.
This is my favorite Indian restaurant in London. The food is beautifully prepared and presented. The service is attentive.
Just an outstanding experience all around. Yes, it's expensive. And worth every penny. We had a party of seven for lunch. Two of us had the business lunch. The rest ordered a variety of items. We all shared. From vegetarian selections, to seafood, to meat, not a single dish disappointed. This was my second time at this restaurant - first was in June of 2012. Both occasions were memorable.
We spend a weekend in London. This reastaurant has bee recommended by "British Sop Bonn-Meckenheim".
It was a "delicious" surprise!
