caters well for coeliacs
We tried the tasting menu, with one diner requiring gluten free options. This was catered for very well. Wine matching by the wine waiter was excellent. Also, when I noticed some flowers in a nearby arrangement that cause me migraines, the arrangement was quickly removed without fuss. Only quibble was getting the final bill was a bit slow, and we really needed to leave (jetlag catching up). Would recommend for coeliacs wanting to celebrate a special occasion.
Good Meal at The Square
The lunch meal was funtastic and the service by the staff was superb. The food tasted fantastic although the main course portion looks less than normal portion.
Simply excellent food: all
Simply excellent food: all 9 courses of the tasting menu (with two tailored to our individual tastes) were exceptional. It's not cheap but well worth it for a special occasion.
Exceptional food from starter to dessert, deep flavours, classic french cuisine, one of the best in london. Service attentive not too overpowering. ambience white table cloth, not too cramped, good space between tables.
Fabulous Meal with colleagues
Excellent food and very good service, we had an additional cheese course and were extremely full when we left.
Incredible evening out at The Square. Our first time there and it did not disappoint. We had the taster menu with wine, all paired very well.
We ate from the set lunch menu and to say we enjoyed it immensely would be an understatement. from the amuse bouche of chicken jelly with parmesan foam to the coffee and petit fours, every course was outstanding. The service was attentive but not overwhelming and the whole dining experience was faultless and one we will definitely be repeating !
Great food, nice atmosphere, had a lovely time. Good wine suggestions from sommelier
Lovely food service disappointing
Enjoyed the three course lunch menu at the weekend to celebrate a birthday. Great bread rolls. All food excellent (although prawn starter a little on sweet side). Our 11y son even enjoyed the smoked partridge.Just thought the service was a bit cold and impersonal. Thought that maybe they were disdainful of the fact we had the special menu and consumed so little alcohol! Considering there was a high ratio of waiters to customers we were surprised that we had to ask two waiters before a third finally took our dessert order. Also did not bring my order for tea. Was so fed up by that time I could not be bothered to ask for it again. Shame that relatively "little" things like that should spoil an otherwise good quality lunch.
i ate at this place the set lunch menu and it was very good. The food is very fresh and very tastey. the Service is excellent. it is a nice place for peploe who wants to eat good food in reasonable prices
We had an excellent dinner at The Square. The food combinations and flavours were fantastic. The service was very good and the sommelier extremely helpful. It was all a great treat, dining at its very best.
Just an amazing meal. Sumptuous
Just an amazing meal. Sumptuous flavors, exquisite presentation and perfect dish sizes. Have rarely had better.
Minimalistic with BIG flavour!
Me and a friend visited here monday night and I have yet to be able to put it in to words. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairings and it was all fantastic. The most memorable was the langoustine, signature dish of the chef. A fantastic buttery, perfectly cooked tail with amazing gnocchi. Also the turbot with the rosemary butter with a cremé of cepes, was so good my mouth waters two days later just thinking about it. Such a big clean flavour of cepes. The roast grouse, with just one word. Epic!
The staff was super too. I'd like to thank everyone who made our visit to your restaurant a night to remember.
And some new neat tips and tricks.
I have been to the restaurant
I have been to the restaurant 4-5 times now and it continues to deliver high quality food and high quality service
one of the best
Just sublime cooking. One of those places where it doesn't matter what the ingredients list consists of, every plate is bursting with subtle but strong and delightful flavours. Beautiful wines by the glass, excellent cheeses--the only thing missing is a truly potent chocolate dessert. But this is a special-occasion restaurant among the top tier in London.
Great menu, not too fussy and very tasty food. Great service, lovely place, not cheap but worth it for a treat.
great for a business lunch
extensive and very impressive wine list. great food and outstanding service. Fine dining at a reasonable price with their set lunch menu at £37.50 pp for three courses. great for business meetings as there is lots of space between tables and so not cramped and good to chat business. will definitely be back.
great service and food!
I are alone, and the wait staff were super professional and attentive, always making sure I had something to eat. my only complaint was that once my meal was finished, it took an unexpectedly long amount of time for them to bring me the check. the food was also quite good, though of course the portions were very small.
FOOD AT ANOTHER LEVEL
I am not sure I have the right words to describe the quality of the food, the intensity of the flavours, the thought given to presentation, texture and taste....it is up there! One of the best I have ever been to... have already re-booked.
The service was very efficient, highly professional, formal enough to befit the restaurant but friendly enough to make you feel welcome (so important as part of enjoying food)
For this level of cooking and service, it is excellent value.
Fantastic food but??
Wedding anniversary meal Sunday 13th both my wife and i had the tasting menu, the flavor combinations were spot on, for me thou the portions were way too small, Iv eaten at most 2 star and all the 3 star restaurants in London, and cant recall the menu gourmand being minis-cal in the portions, the bread was out standing, as was the desserts,
Outstanding food prepared
Outstanding food prepared with immense care and imagination, and beautifully presented.
The set lunch is a way to experience this for those of us who aren't in the Mayfair earnings bracket. Service was excellent too.
The atmosphere is a little corporate - more to do with the decor than the diners - that is the only small criticism. Ceiling and lighting were bland and the loos were more interesting in terms of design than the restaurant. But that is trivial compared with the deliciousness.
a nice relaxed feel to restaurant.
a nice relaxed feel to restaurant. Food was very very good, service poor with exception of young waiter & sommelier.
amazing food for a special occasion
Visited last Saturday for my wife's 40th amazing food for a special occasion. With the best service I have had in London. Definitely recommend The Square for a memorable experience.
A Tasting Menu of Perfection
I treated my wife to a special evening out for her birthday, we dined at The Square and had the tasting menu. The service and attention to detail was excellent. The food was amazing and well balanced as after the eight courses we didn't feel overly full but very content. Standout main dish for me was the Red Mullet and Fig Soufflé was an amazing dessert. The atmosphere of the dinning room was very laid back and didn't feel to stuffy and the staff were efficient in looking after us. Out of all the fine dining we do as a couple we would recommend The Square as it 2 Michelin stars has impressed and out done allot of its competition in the capital. Book early and enjoy!
Superb as ever
We went back to the Square to celebrate our son passing his exams and it was better than ever, if that is possible. The food of course is excellent, inventive and beautifully presented and the service first class. A wonderful treat!
This was a wonderful culinary experience - it's expensive but if you are a real lover of fine food and inventive high quality cooking - it must be for you. Every one of the nine courses was memorable , tasted superb and was wonderfully presented.
Top notch in every way
This restaurant was excellent in every way, except maybe the price. We ordered the 10 dish sampling menu with wine, and while I've had the occasional better dish at other high end restaurants, I've never before had a multi-course meal in this category without any missteps on even a single dish. At The Square every dish was very good to excellent in themselves, and also very well composed as part of the progression of the meal in addition to being perfectly matched with each accompanying wine, the best matchings I've ever had. The waiters and their service was also excellent with great commentary on the food, perfect attentiveness and very good timing. Their Michelin stars are well deserved, and I'd have given them more stars if I could!
A stupendous restaurant...
This is my third occasion to dine / lunch at the Square and I adore it. It is VERY expensive........£64 for 2 starters is excessive, but delicious food and service is perfection. The wine, the amuse bouche.....all was a treat!
Eating in London
The food is excellent. The best I ever had in London. Very friendly personnel.
A gastronomic experience !
A fabulous venue for a graduation celebration, with a very personal touch accompanying the dessert, just minutes after they learnt of the reason for the visit. Great food and wine to match!
First class experience
Went for a special lunch on Saturday. The excellent value menu (£40 for 3 courses) was available in addition to a la carte and tasting options. The food is certainly worthy of two michelin stars (a cut above one star quality) and the service was appropriately attentive without being fussy. With a few added extras (cheese course, glasses of wine, coffee), even the value lunch menu became £90 a head but overall still good value considering the quality of food and overall experience.
lunch at the square
good food, tho portion size bit stingy - service attentive and staff pleasant
An oasis for lunch
A great venue to meet up with someone special, old friend, etc A very relaxed friendly, understanding, atmosphere.
I really enjoyed the pigs head, after they assured me about the presentation.... Pineapple tarte tatin, scrummy
Practically perfect in every way
Despite the 2* status, the Square was unstuffy and the service spot-on, attentive but never intrusive. The room was about half full on a midweek evening but plenty of buzz and conversation precluded any hushed silence, with a mix of couples, business groups and a family with young children. We had the three course a la carte menus with mains of loin of fallow deer and rib/aged fillet of beef. The cooking was faultless, the food delicious and beautifully presented. Excellent cheese (and cheese waiter!) as well. The wine list is absolutely vast, definitely helpful to have checked out the range on the website first, notwithstanding the knowledgeable sommelier. A thoroughly enjoyable experience all round, would recommend to anyone.
It was very good experience,
It was very good experience, very good food, friendly service, very good speed for serving of business lunch.
As usual food was incredible,
As usual food was incredible, service always there but completely unobtrusive, staff knowledgeable and friendly.
Food is good, our starter is a bit sauty, but the rest of them are amazing. Only problem is service.
It is a two star restaurant, and as soon as I arrive, the person on the door was telling me kitchen is close in 15mins.
Then, the dessert was wrong at first time.
I think the service is down comparing when I visited few times before.
However, the short blonde lady is good service.
The Square - first class meal
First time I'd eaten here - did so on the recommendation of a colleague. I have to say we were very impressed by the overall quality of the meal and the service - unobtrusive but very efficient. We had the set lunch menu - £37.50 for a 3 course menu at a 2* restaurant is in my opinion excellent value - superb quality of food, portions were not huge but they don't need to be when the quality of the food is so good . Huge wine list - perhaps the only slight issue was that the range of half-bottles isn't that big
Dinner at the Square
Dinner for four was to celebrate a special birthday at The Square in Mayfair. Tasting menu with the wine pairing was excellent in every way with several stand-out dishes, such as the turbot, the langoustine, pork belly and fig souffle. Two guests wanted to share a wine pairing and the sommelier was very obliging and generous. Restaurant was packed on a Sunday night and it affected the very good service slightly. We waited over 20 minutes for one of the courses. But a special occasion with some exquisite dishes. And worth the steep £185 per head.
Finae Dining As It Should Be
The outstanding thing about The Square is the service. Absolutely 100% professional, but at the same time friendly and willing to ensure your dining experience is everything it should be. If you enjoy fine dining and want exquisite food and technicolour flavour that only those really top chefs seem to be able to capture, then this restaurant is as good as it gets. The £35 Set Lunch is good value, but like anywhere in Mayfair drinks bump up the bill, so be prepared.
An unforgettable experience
The set lunch menu, available even on a Saturday, was good value for money. The Sommelier was very happy to answer the questions we had about the drinks menu. Each dish was an art. The food was so good - the taste of the ingredients, each so subtle and finely balanced that you feel that you must close your eyes and enjoy the flavours that accompany every piece of food on your plate. Appetizer and mains were great and unforgettable. My dessert was the Souffle which was a bit too sweet and was something I could have skipped. Serving sizes were adequate. The atmosphere in the restaurant was tasteful but not stiff. Diners were happy and relaxed and there were happy soft chatter, which made dining with my family a happy and enjoyable experience.
Simple and expencive
When you plan to visit 2* restaraunt you expect to have a delicious journey, to taste something unique. I ordered tasting menu with wines. Wines were outstanding - their presentation as well as the quality. But the food - only one of nine dishes could be discribed as fantastic and very tasty. The others are just ordinary.
It is definately not the best 2* restaurant i visited in London, but the most expensive.
We paid a visit to the restaurant as a special treat on a trip to London, we had a great meal with wonderful wine recommended by the Sommelier. We had the set lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed. Service was very attentive and friendly.
A Square Meal
I had booked this for my husbands birthday. I thought we would opt to have the taster menu but he chose to eat from set menu. With the canapés, amuse bouche, 3 courses, pre-dessert and petit fours this was indeed a delight for the palate, and I felt we had not missed out. A menagerie of tastes and textures, each delicious. Champagne to begin and a bottle of red to go with our main course - not cheap but certainly value for this outstanding meal.
Fantastic lunch diner to celebrate special occasion!
Excellent food & service, but....
Excelent food and sevice before ,during and after....
Ambience is a little bit cold... so you need group to fully enjoy.
Price is fair
Bottom line-food and service exceeded our expectations
Will recommend to my friend
The Sqaure - lunch
As with previous visits to The Square, fantastic and innovative food which befits its status as a Michelin starred restaurant - superb but discrete service, excellent quality food cooked perfectly
Revisited this restaurant after some years and it is still as excellent as before. The set lunch menu is good value for money.
Heaven on a plate
A faultless experience from beginning to end. Never having been before the receptionist appeared to recognise us and gave us the quiet table we had requested. That was only the start from then on our three excellent courses came without hurry or delay interspersed with little "treats". There is a good selection of wines by the glass as we can no longer manage a glass of champagne and a whole bottle nor even two halves of which there is also a good selection.
Often at the end of a meal one is left feeling overfull, not so here.
A sublime set menu lunch!
Best we had every had in our Michelin star list. Worth the two stars!
Perfect service to ensure that we had every thing we wanted but with a personality. But not too stuffy that normal people like us would feel out of place.
Highly recommend for a special occasion or the belated birthday we were celebrating. Being so close to the Royal Academy of Art, made a fantastic day out.
Perfection on a plate!
