Sunday lunch was a sophisticated, pleasant experience. We were able to have a long conversation with the understanding staff giving excellent service.
Our favourite London Restaurant
We are never disappointed, we can happily take friends for lunch or dinner and be confidant that the experience will be good
I wanted a classic French Bistro experience and Galvin's Bistrot de Luxe absolutely delivered on this requirement and I love the name too. I was transported to France for the evening and the food and service were faultless. Nicky was delighted with the choice of eaterie and we have been telling friends and family it's well worth a visit.
We booked the early dinner
We booked the early dinner menu via top table as we were going to the open air theatre. The staff were helpful in ensuring the food was delivered quickly but we weren't rushed at all. Staff were attentive but not overly so. The Prix fixe menu had limited choices but all options were pronounced very good by our group. Great value for pre theatre with the top table deal and would recommend to others.
Both my dining companion and
Both my dining companion and I spent several enjoyable hours in this restaurant, whose very ambience was a great reminder to both of us of occasions spent in Paris eatieries. The starters were well presented and very tasty, and the main courses were equally professionally cooked and flavoursome. Desserts completed the very fine dining expereince!! Throughout service was quiet and unobtrusive, but positively charming!
Will definitely go back very soon !!
french food at its best
Had a lovely dinner with some unusual dishes and service that wasn't intrusive. Would definitely go again
Booked up late just on the off chance and working only on online reputation.
Restaurant was busy but the service was excellent as was the food.
Another good meal at Galvins
This is my third visit to a Galvin restaurant and my second time dining at Bistrot de Luxe. Great food and service as always. Would recommend the set menu for this hunting for a deal - choices are limited but the quality of food remains excellent.
Loved all of the evening
Yet both or our pate starters were really bland and ordinary. Service a little bit patchy some parts of the evning yet when it was present it was great! Thank you and I am surely returning!
An accidental birthday...
Booked Bistrot Galvin as it was in the right place for the two of us coming from different parts of town. It was the restaurant's 8th birthday and the four course lunch time set menu was offered at pre-crunch prices. Everything utterly delicious including the matching wines. Charming people, too. Memorable lunch.
Great Sunday lunch
very friendly service (we were even welcomed with a orange prosecco cocktail), extremely good and varied food choice. The Sunday lunch menu is great value. Impressive wine list for all budgets (although slightly on the pricey side for the most part). Great experience. Will come back
Fabulous dinner. Extremely attentive service, and delicious food. A real find - but don't tell everyone!,
Still right up there with the best
Galvin is becoming an institution and rather than rest on it's laurels as some institutions are wont to do, Galvin has upped it's game - having been many times over the years, this was the most memorable food and the best quality. Outstanding proper cooking of good ingredients, carefully served in a warm atmosphere. I'm coming back more often!
Fun evening with delicious food
Excellent service and good menu choice despite doing it being a special offer - sometimes this can be mean-spirited but not in this case. I'd recommend the wine pairings which pushes the bill up, but were good choices. Hilarity at the end when the waiter gave we three 'laydees' a box containing two cookies and presented the bill to our male friend. He was outraged at getting a bill, not a cookie box - the crosser he got, the more funny we found it!
Solid food and bustling environment
Solid food and bustling environment. Quieter on a weekend early evening it is a bit calmer. Galvin is great.
Great atmosphere. Great food.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. What more do you need to know??
Set Menu. Good Food
Food was excellent. Set menu is good value however the choice on the set menu is poor. Not for vegetarians. Venue is great with a lovely feel. A la carte menu is more expensive but for a special occasion, worth it.
Galvin continues to offer
Galvin continues to offer v good food and service in a nice atmosphere. comfortable , local French bistro.
Considering it was very busy
Considering it was very busy the service was efficient and friendly.
Good French bistro style food
An enjoyable meal, and the staff were particularly friendly and accommodating with our 3 year old. The food was good - the lamb tagine was excellent. Don't bother with the steak tartare as a main - it's virtually identical the the starter, but twice the price. Tasty though.
The early bird menu looked great value, but was VERY limited. We went for the a la carte so it worked out pretty expensive.
Galvin Bistrot de Luxe
This was a really special place to go for a very reasonable cost. It has a real feeling of a French bistro and the food is divine. We each had a glass of wine with lunch - a good choice of wine by the glass, and the service was constant but not interrupting. I would certainly return when next in this area.
Very high standard for an 'informal' bistro. I would feel uncomfortable wearing a tshirt here. The service and food wasexce llent and I would consider the value for money extremely good. Recommended for everyone.
Excellent lunch - but a bit crowded
Lunched with a friend - food very good. I'd particularly recommend the crab lasagne starter on the a la carte. We opted for the free aperitif maison (a bucks fizz in effect) as our Top Table deal. Cheese board a little disappointing as the walnut bread was dried rather than toasted, so with little fruit and no chutney the whole dish was dry eating, albeit the small portions of 4 or 5 cheeses were "a point".
My only gripe really would be that tables are very small and so closely packed that it is impossible to have a private conversation.
Great value for best tasting French food on the weekend for sub 20 GBP for 3 course.
Just really good food!
We love Galvins and have been many times with both family and work collegues. Consistently good and not over priced - good wine list too. The snails are wonderful!
We had a lovely meal last week with friends at the restaurant. My wife was heavily pregnant and they gave us alternative seating to accommodate her which was very nice. Some of the group arrived very late and this wasn't a problem for them. The setting was great and the food was appreciated by everyone. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable meal. I would recommend this again.
A friend introduced me to this restaurant some ears ago and I go back over and over again simply because I know I will get a great meal served with friendly professionalism at a price which, if not cheap, is not at all unreasonable. What's more the room is comfortable.
Delightful family occasion
We went as a group of six. There appeared to be a wide selection on the menu as there were several specials, but after we ordered, the waiter came back to say that the two special dishes ordered by four of us had run out. It was only 7.30 in the evening! Many apologies followed and our bottle of champagne was taken from the bill which was a nice gesture. Our choices were considerably restricted however.
Foo of was excellent, particularly the tarte tatin.
Style and ambience great.
Style and ambience great. Twenties France revisited and the TT deal on the prix fixee menu excellent value. Nice to have cheese as an included option on the puddings.
I took my partner for his birthday after a theatre matinee. All all the staff where superb, very friendly and attentive and the food was lovely. They made his birthday extra special! Impeccable service, friendly ambience and great menu. We will definitely return.
Having tried Galvin at Windows
Having tried Galvin at Windows I was interested to try the Bistrot. The ambience is clearly very different - a bustling French bistro successfully created. We were going to have the early evening prix fix menu, but were tempted onto the a la carte menu. The stand out dish was the crab lasagne, but the pan fried sea bass was also delicious. We had a very good white wine from Limoux from a well chosen wine list
Great business dinner
We booked last minute and had a fantastic meal with good wine. We will be going back
Went here for a special birthday meal and certainly wasn't disappointed. Everything about the restaurant was great, especially the food, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of fine dining.
perfect as always
Great deal great food I just keep going back again and again
The food was very good but if you don't go for the set lunch the bill is astronomical and that is with a few glasses of wine not a bottle as we were drinking different colours. May not return unless taken!.
Always a safe bet for an excellent meal and on the pre 7pm menu its excellent value too.A creamy artichoke soup followed by delicious hake and coulommier cheese was just what was needed on a dreary evening. Excellent knowledgeable service made it a relaxing early evening business meal
Bistrot de Luxe lives up to its nam
I've visited Galvin at Windows and La Chapelle a number of times but this was my first meal at Bistrot de Luxe. I wasn't disappointed. We had the set lunch menu which is great value and tried various wines through the Pots de Lyon option. It was close to 5pm by the time we left but the staff were happy to work around us and were friendly/helpful ... which is not always the case elsewhere if you visibly outstay your welcome!
All in all very very good. The best tarte tatin in town.
Excellent venue, relaxed ambiance,
Excellent venue, relaxed ambiance, attentive staff and not too overpowering. Had the special offer of £19.95 for three courses which was excellent value. Although very limited menu the food was stunning. I would definately return again for a special occassion and choose from the al a carte.
Great service goes a long way
We booked Galvins as a birthday treat for a friend .However there was some confusion re the top table deal. Apparently the deal only applied between 6 pm and 7 this was not made apparent anywhere in the online information and we were able to book a table for 7.30. On received the bill we realized the deal did not apply . We queried it with the waiter who informed us that we had missed the top table deal as we had booked our table for 7.30 , when we told him this had not been made clear , he was unhelpful and dismissive .His manager on the other hand saved the day . She realised what had happened and promptly reduced our bill , apologized and gave us complimentary drinks . Her only concern was to ensure we had a good dinning experience .
Good food, professional, relaxed
Good food, professional, relaxed service. What's not to like?
Still going strong
First-class service - efficient, friendly but discreet. Excellent, plump escargots and juicy venison with well-balanced accompaniment. It's not the quietest of restaurants but the atmosphere is of a room of people enjoying themselves which adds to the pleasure of eating there.
Limited choice on set menu
We ate here with some friends and had the prix fixe menu - three courses for £21.50. The choice was very limited, especially for the main course which didn't include a vegetarian option - it was salmon or game, neither of which I am particularly fond of. The salmon was servied with broccoli in an anchovy dressing, which was not to my taste at all. The service was good, although the main course came too quickly after the starter and we had to ask for more time between that and the pudding. The restaurant was very busy, and they wanted our table. However they said that we could finish off our evening in the bar downstairs, which was very noce. All in all we enjoyed our evening, but I wouldn't rush back.
always a winner
with TT set lunch a bargain for such good quality food and service one of my favorite places to eat in london great location too
Despite being busy and the tables relatively close together, the noise level is not too high and conversations are easily heard. Food in general was good and service ok.
Wonderful as always
Galvin Bistro de Luxe is my regular haunt. Fabulous service and restaurant. The rum baba is worth leaving room for and is very alcoholic! Highly recommended!
Yet another lovely lunch at
Yet another lovely lunch at Galvin. Especially thankful for the "Happy Birthday" they put round the rim of my mum's pudding plate. She had a great birthday lunch - thank you Galvin!
Booked here as it was central for my brother and I to meet up with my mother for a birthday lunch.
Staff lovely and attentive - food, for my mother and I, on the set menu was fab. My brother found it very limiting but decided to go for food he wouldn't normally eat and thoroughly enjoyed it!!
a good experience again
The second time I dined with a friend at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe proved that it was worth repeating the first experience. A sound set menu, an excellent house wine and very good service.
The main course pheasant breast was superb, and the cheese for the second course was also very good.
It was our second time visiting Galvins Bistrot de Luxe, wrongly apprehensive it wouldn't live up to our high expectations - we were certainly not disappointed. We ended up not getting the 3 course fixed which bumped up the price a little but the food, service and attention to detail was faultless. An absolutely fantastic example of how a restaurant should be. We will certainly be back - thanks.
