fantastic food as always,
fantastic food as always, Bistro Union is a great place to have a casual lunch or dinner with friends. A hidden gem !!
Had great lunch at Bistro
Had great lunch at Bistro Union in Clapham, great food and service
First trip to Bistro Union
First trip to Bistro Union - and BIG fans of Trinity - so expectations were high for Adam Byatt's new venture.
Loved the place. Very relaxed and informal... Food good, rather than knockout - but the whole place and experience has a great buzz about it. Service excellent
Sure fire hit
Great addition to Abbeville Road
Bistro Union did not fail our expectations. Delicious food, interesting menu, great wine list. The bar food concept is good fun, next time we want to sit there rather than at a table! The restaurant was busy with a nice neighbourhood buzz. Recommended.
Great local restaurant
Great local restaurant from the same team as Trinity. Brunch and bar snacks are excellent and the food is always seasonal and well cooked,
Great venue, we actually chose to give up our table to sit at the bar which we felt allowed us to be more involved with the dining experience. Excellent food, toad in the hole was enough for food and quail in a box was fun! Head waiter Craig couldn't have been more affable. A +++++
The food and service were great - the staff in particular were very friendly. We had pre-dinner cocktails at the bar which were great.
We decided to try Bistro Union
We decided to try Bistro Union after hearing about it from a friend. It was excellent!!! We will definitely be back!
Great meal at Bistro Union,
Great meal at Bistro Union, lovely and very different choices on the menu and all lived up to our expectations. We'll definitely be back!
We ate seated at the bar, which was pleasantly lively. Having cutlery, napkins and menus in our own private desk drawers was a fun touch. We opted for bar snacks instead of starters; all were very tasty, particularly the pork scratchings in apple sauce. I had mussels as a main; my companion the steak. The mussels were sweet and succulent, however I would opt next time for the starter size as the portion was huge. My companion's steak was rather tough for a medium rare, and this is the only criticism we could make of the evening as the service was fantastic and we really enjoyed all our other dishes. I would strongly rexommend the mince pie ice cream.
A fantastic restaurant, with a wonderful atmosphere as well as being exceptionally good value. If you want a great meal out, but don't want to spend a fortune, you can't go wrong with Bistro Union.
Dinner on Friday before Christmas
Dinner on Friday before Christmas - restaurant full and buzzing, as expected, but the staff were still friendly, helpful and cheerful. The food was very good, our starter of rare roast beef came with crisp watercress and a delicious home made horseradish cream. I had mussels with chips and mayo (enough chips for 2!) to follow and my companion ate gilthead bream with crispy roasted cauliflower, but we were sadly too well fed to manage more than coffee to end with.
Good food & service but great value
Food to good (but not great) but this is made up for by the excellent/friendly service and it's good value menu. They could change their menu more often though.
Good food, nice atmosphere
Good ambience, polite service, great food and it has set menus in the week that are very good value. It has a modern british menu and gives you option to try less common dishes, which I love.
Local Gem - Bistro Union Clapham
I have been wanting to go to Bistro Union on Abbeville Road in Clapham for some time, but it has always been fully booked / too busy to get a table. This is certainly a sign of a great restaurant - and I can only agree that it is. The menu is seasonal with some interesting choices, the service is great, and it has a local feeling. I had the best ice cream in a long time as a dessert. Will definitely go back.
Good choice in Nightingale Triangle
We visited Bistro Union on the most dreaded dining day of the year: Valentine's Day. We chose Bistro Union partially because they didn't have a forced set menu - full a la carte was available. We had chicken liver pate and mussels to start. The pate was lovely but far too cold. Mussels were very good. We shared the steak for 2 for our main - the meat was well cooked and seasoned although we didn't think the mushroom ketchup added to the dish. The only disappointment in our meal was the £6.00 cheese 'tapas' which we had as dessert. The dish consisted of one very small piece of cheese with no bread or biscuits to accompany it - we thought it was very overpriced (unlike the rest of the meal which was good value). We will be back!
A perfect valentines meal
Great food, great vibe... Loved it! I will definitely go back again, in fact I may i have brunch there this weekend :)
Sausage and sage puffs - the best!
Great local restaurant, well done comfort food, with really excellent service. Sausage and sage puffs are delicious! We will definitely be going back.
Abbeville Bistro Union
Delightful neighbourhood restaurant. Friendly attentive service, great British food, good value and nice atmosphere.
Bistro Union - Local Gem
We had dinner at Bistro Union, Abbeville Road in Clapham on Friday evening, after trying to get a table for a long time, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The service is great, the food delicious and the venue is very nice. We will definitely go back soon again.
Excellent value local restaurant
A party of six, on a Saturday evening, we found the food to be very good, right from the tasty bread sticks (highly recommend), through to the entree and dessert, and it was excellent value. The service was friendly and helpful, making suggestions on pre dinner drinks and accompanying wines. the atmosphere is equally relaxed and friendly, lovely interior and would be appropriate for couples, groups and families alike.
Always start with the bar snacks
The menu is obviously great but you could just work your way through their daily bar snack menu. All of which are very well priced and delicious! Tap in to seasonal treats as well as great British classics with a twist. The sausage and sage puffs are a must as well as mackerel if they have it.
Also can highly recommend cocktails. I had the rhubarb gin and now don't know what else ill be able to drink this summer!
Great food as always!
I have been to Bistro Union 3 times now and have always had excellent food and service. The portions are very generous so I haven't yet managed to try a dessert, maybe next time! I also want to try their afternoon tea and bar snacks. A great local restaurant and a worthy little sister to Trinity.
Fabulous local restaurant
A very delicious dinner on a busy Saturday night. Noisy and buzzy but not too much. The starters of goat cheese curd and beetroot and mussels were very good. The mains were a juicy rib of steak with amazing fat fries and fish pie which was great. The rhubarb crumble was excellent. The small custard brulée less so - a bit shrunken in the small dish. Cheerful and efficient service. We drank different wines throughout which were all recommended and worthy of such.
Definitely go again and will recommend.
A lovely midweek dinner with a friend. The decor and menu were brilliant, the fish pie in particular was outstanding. The attentive and charming service certainly added to the experience. Would definitely return!
We loved our Saturday night at Bistro Union. A really good fun atmosphere that felt slightly reminiscent of San Francisco dining but in the heart of SW London. The food is very much British with a twist on each dish that is a little surprise.
Service was a bit slow but our waiter was on the case and apologised when he knew things were not moving at the required pace in the kitchen and my bavette steak should have been more tender. It tasted fantastic, and even though it is bavette / skirt / flank, it should have been more tender. Other than that, everything else was amazing.
quirky, friendly and good
Bistro Union is a cool place with trendy and different ways of serving food. Sometimes a little impractical to eat it should be said, when you get your fry-up in the frying pan rather than on a plate. Although the food is very good and they do smoke their own fish on the roof apparently! Portions are a little varied in size and worth asking before ordering.
We found that there was a tendency to add a bit too much vinegar to the dressing for both the beetroot and the celeriac salads - and we have been on numerous occasions - so we thought we better mention it rather than moan about it quietly -staff took it very well and said they would pass on to the chef - we shall see next time!
Early evening treat
An early Friday evening dinner for 2 at Bistro Union. We were the only table there at 6:30 but by the time we left, every table was taken, so booking is higly recommended! The food and service were brilliant. The menu isn't huge but in a way that's a good thing as you can pretty much guarantee everything on there will be cooked well. A wonderful way to start the weekend.
Enjoyable English Quirkiness
This was a nice experience, very friendly & attentive staff, we enjoy the quirkiness of the restaurant with its 'back at school', England in the 70's ' theme. Food, good choice to be had from the menu and some additional specials. The fish dishes we had were presented well and right portion for lunch. Wine, again a good selection, nice to see a wide selection of whites as this restaurant had. Crowd, a few 'Yummy mummies' with sprogs, but not to a point of distraction like it is at The Albert, mainly pleasant types, Clapham crowd.
a great place to take the parents
Great menu with lots of choice, well stocked bar plus great friendly staff. Will be going again!
Great Brunch Spot
Great spot for brunch, great and varied menu, amazingly friendly service and a nice ambiance to enjoy a bit of weekend brunch decadence...washed down by very good Bloody Mary's.
Great service, food and atmosphere
The menu is very good it has classic with many dishes having a little twist but completely unpretentious - try the Marmite sticks (obvs if you like Marmite) on their snack menu or try pate starter, and then there are the mains!
All together a wonderful experience.Children's dining is limited to certain times which is a very good idea too.
Father's Day Lunch
Had a delicious lunch - food well cooked and plentiful. The roast chicken was juicy and tasty, liked the addition of the game chips and roasted tomatoes. Great drinks too - especially loved the bucks fizz, and to finish the Irish coffee.
Charming brunch place
We really enjoyed brunching at Bistro Union. The interior design is great, very down-to-earth with brown and warm colours; everything was very welcoming - great atmosphere! Staff was really friendly and helpful, and the food (we ordered a fry-up and a Lowestoft Kipper) was delicious and also well presented. We'll come again!
Good Sunday Lunch
Good SUnday lunch...shared a roast chicken which was very well cooked and extremely tasty...great idea....thought it very good value and more than enough for two...as ever, nice relaxed atmosphere, especially at the later end of Sunday lunch serving...enjoyed very much!
From the delicately poached
From the delicately poached roast chicken, bread sauce and all the trimmings, to the cooked in a cast iron pan big boys/girls breakfast to the outrageously good mac n cheese with confit tomato, this restaurant is just outstanding. The food is always top notch, the booze is great and the atmosphere just wraps you up and tells you to stay and have another glass of wine or mulled cider. We love this place and keep coming back, so just don't tell too many people as want to keep it feeling 'local'!
Delicious food and good portions
This restuarant is a great new addition to Abbeville Road - the food is delicious, the portions are huge and the atmosphere is great. I loved my fry up served in a frying pan(!). Friends I have with have enjoyed a whole chicken or piece of beef between two which is fantastic value and the pies are delicious. I'll definitely be coming back!
Saturday night dinner
We booked a table for 9.30 pm as we were heading back to the Abbeville after
the theatre in the West End. One down side to this, was they had run out of
Savignon Blanc and a number of menu options were now off the menu. That said the
service was very good and very friendly. The menu options were classical but also
included some intriguing combinations. I had the pigs cheek on toast as my starter
and an indulgent crusted lamb dish as my main, both very enjoyable.
There is a lovely ambience to this venue and it has a fantastic frontage
for dining alfresco, so for lunch or perhaps a late breakfast, it's hard to beat. If dinning in the
evening, don't arrive too late otherwise you might miss out from enjoying the entire menu.
Delicious food with great service
Service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was v good. Definitely recommend.
Great place, with great food! The staff (especially Kai) were all very professional and friendly! We will be back!
A relaxed, friendly atmosphere, with great recommendations from staff who seemed really passionate about the food. Dinner was great, highly recommended.
Supper for two; visited because we use the big sister restaurant; the team has transferred all the cooking and service ambition into a bistro model. Very good.
Perfect for carnivores!
Aged parma ham with a lovingly shared history & specials of crab were fantastic. Service friendly, informative, perfect, ambience lovely and really like the quirky school book touches. We went for a birthday treat and the extra slice of cake they offered with a candle was a sweet touch from a genuinely engaged staff. The only negative was that the veggie options were really rather sad. So often it is the case that real foodies mean that the meat/fish is lovingly choosen, meaningfully researched and thoughtfully presented if they could have extended the same interest to the veggie options this could have been a perfect meal. Pasta or sides doesn't really inspire!
What a treat at Bistro Union
A great new gem on the Clapham scene, typical of the Trinity standards. Perfect place to be on a rainy Sunday lunchtime. Can't wait to return and investigate more of their menu.
Great food and service
Had a lovely meal here. Great food, staff were friendly and helpful.
Nice place for a sunday brunch
We really enjoyed our meal here - would recommend and hopefully be back soon.
Excellent local eaterie
Bistro Union has a charm which is rare these days - everyone there seems involved in giving you the best possible time. Lovely. We will certainly be back!
Very nice breakfast
We've been a fan of Adam Byatt's wonderful "Trinity" since it opened so we expected things to be good at Bistro Union too, and they were. It's a nice casual space that actually feels warmer than the website pictures suggest, and the service was efficient and friendly. We just stopped by for brunch and both chose the fry-up, which was perfectly cooked and attractively presented in a small cast iron skillet. Also, the coffee was excellent: they know that a cappuccino is not just a latte with a bit of foam on top - something that seems to be unknown in far too many places. We'll be back to try the bar snacks and dinner options.
Great local eat
Interesting and varied menu at very reasonable prices.
