Excellent food and friendly, attentive service. Will definitely be back.
Really loved this place -
Really loved this place - will definitely be going again. Every course brought a smile to our faces - due to fantastic tastes and textures but mostly due to the truly wonderful tongue in cheek / imaginative presentation. Utter brilliance in a really chilled-out venue with a cool industrial/urban feel.
Very nice restaurant, good ambience, decent service however the choice of ingredients on the menu is a bit hit and miss. In other words for the price you pay there are few of what I would refer to as 'choice' cuts. Definitely worth a visit though.
As good as the hype?
I have eaten lunch at Dabbous twice. The pea and mint starter was fresh delicious, the famous egg, mushroom and smoked butter fabulous, and asparagus with rapeseed mayonnaise and hazelnuts very good. The fish was all good, and the pork with acorn praline main amazing, although my veal shin was just a little bland. All courses are small so four should be ordered. My dessert of chocolate ganache with basil moss was the other side of sensational! Booked until 2013, try for a table on the day..... you may be pleasantly surprised. Decor unfussy distressed concrete and utility lights. Lends a welcome air of informality, and the staff are charming. The candle set the menu alight which was an added surprise.
Still very good
After my first visit a couple of days of opening, this is my second one after a while. Still as good and some dishes have proven to stand the test of time like the coddled eggs! Amazing value too.
We were lucky enough to snaffle a last minute booking so hadn't waited like many for 6 months. We were so excited & were not disappointed. The food, service and matched wines were brilliant. Absolutely delicious, well put together and well paced tasting menu. I loved it all but the avocado dish and coddled egg (which we added to the tasting menu) were memorable. They don't turn tables here which means you & everyone else can take your time to enjoy the food - its noticeably different. The front of house team totally get the balance right between great service, friendliness & making it feel like a special event. One downside, the restaurant toilets are unisex & shared with the busy bar downstairs; by the end of the evening it was not nice.
Accolades for this place are deserved.
Very informal and relaxed setting, spartan without being barren. Stereotypes let you categorise, sometimes effectively, sometimes unjustifiably. Confusing customer with waiting staff was an inauspicious start. But that was the only misstep (from us, likely). Avocado, pistachio and lemon balm in chilled osmanthus etc was less forbidding than its name and more zesty gazpacho. Petit four was a delight as well.
The hen egg dish was oversalted
The hen egg dish was oversalted and had too much yolk, all other were very good.
Simple ingredients, great execution
The restaurant offers two menus, but definitely opt for the tasting menu for a full experience. The ingredients are simple, but the execution impeccable. Service was very thoughtful. The only thing to be improved would be the atmosphere, which feels cold at the moment. Highly recommend the bar and the birch-infused old fashioned.
We really enjoyed out meal at Dabbous. Everything was perfect. Loved the Basil Fawlty cocktail and the corn on the cob spectacular. Never thought corn could taste so good! Thank you for making a special day so memorable. Hope to visit again soon.
Freshness on a plate
Our second visit to Dabbous - the first was Olympic fortnight 2012; when we were lucky to get in. We were amazed and delighted with our lunch that Saturday last August as we were for my husband's surprise birthday lunch on Friday last. Oliver's food is innovative, fresh, beautiful to look at and wonderful to taste. Having just returned from 3 weeks in France and eaten in two 1 star, one 2 star and one 3 star restaurant, none of them touch Dabbous for it fresh approach.
Graham and his front of house team are welcoming and make this experience divine.
We had a wonderful time at Dabbous. All the buzz is well merited and we were impressed by almost everything we eat. the food feels fresh, light, yet creative, technical and perfectly well executed! As a side note: the bread was a delight. one of the best bread I have eaten in years! the only downside... it's hard to get a seat given the 40 seats or so available!
Very imaginative cooking
The cooking is very creative. Some of the dishes were outstanding, some did not work for us (but might for others). I would happily return. Bring back the corn on the cob!
Dabble at Dabbous
Small plates of interesting yet very palatable morsels keep coming on the tasting menu, yet while well satiated, you don't feel overfed. A perfect balance is achieved here at Dabbous. Chapeau to the chef for creativity without going to extremes!
