My new favourite
This was my second time here and my meal was perfect in every way. We opted for the tasting menu with matching wines, something that usually leaves me wishing I'd just gone for the a la carte. Not this time. Every course was gorgeous and some were utterly sublime. The scallop and pig's cheek; the Iberico pok loin and the apricot souffle were all heavenly.
Our wine waiter was also great - very informative and enthusiastic and took time to explain how the wines went with each course. His choices were excellent and eye-opening - I'd never had a Canadian wine before but the Pinot Noir was a perfect match with the pork.
Every member of staff was great and seemed to geniunely care that we were enjoying our meal. I can't wait to return.
excellent even through a power loss
Great food, lovely ambience and charming staff. Beautifully presented dishes, and a phenomenal sunday roast. Sadly there was a power loss (so no dessert!) ,which meant the second half of our stay was rather smokey and quiet, however the staff were helpful and generous with their Port to compensate. Power loss aside , we shall return.
I had been to Launceston Place twice previously on visits to London, but it had been a few years and my 28-year-old son and travel companion wanted to go back. He is quite a foodie and we both agreed that the food, service and overall experience was fantastic. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I've already told my husband, who goes to London 8 times each year for business, that he must book a table for his next trip!
Try the apricot souflee!
We came here for an enjoyable birthday dinner and we had the tasting menu. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. It has nice surroundings, you could imagine this being the former living room in someone's house. My favourite course was the dessert where we both had an impressive apricot souflee - I recommend that one!
Lovely Night Out With Friends
We had a great time at the restaurant recently for dinner. Charming neighborhood and warm ambiance. Fantastic Service from start to finish, and wonderful, creative food. The cheese cart with matching wine is particularly enjoyable towards the end of the night. The wine list is extensive, and can be rather expensive as well, so don't gasp at the end of the meal when the bill comes due.
Have eaten here in the past and not been so impressed. Have to say the standard has been raised.
Great early evening maneu and lunch menu.
Excellent food, excellent wine, excellent service.
The location of the restaurant too is great. Tucked away ina back street in kensington.
Sunday Lunch Menu
Treated my sister to the Sunday lunch set menu, £30 per head for 3 courses. Limited in comparison to the main menu but still great if you'd prefer to keep costs down. The food was great and if you order the roast beef, make sure you are hungry as it's HUGE! All staff were very polite, attentive and add to the experience. If you want a quality fine dining experience at a manageable price, put this place high on your list.
excellent place, very nice
excellent place, very nice people, enjoyed it a lot, but more important my guest did as well !!
A very good experience - good food, attentive and friendly service, good value.
Great food and service
Went here for the first time after living right around the corner for a year. The experience turned out to be great, food was lovely, good service and helpful staff. My recommendation is to go for one of the menu options as you need to taste more than one dish!
early evening meal
Myself and my wife chose this restaurant due to its proximity to the Royal Albert Hall.
We booked from 6:00 pm and arrived about 6:10. At the time of our booking we said that we must be at the RAH by 19:45 which meant that we had to leave at 19:35, a tight schedule.
We went for the set menu of 3 courses, and were surprised when we received 2 entrée couses and an additional sweet in addition. We were able to have a great meal with coffee in the time available and it didn't feel rushed or pressurised, just great service.
We will book again the next time we are in the area.
Very good experience, our
Very good experience, our third time at the restaurant and each time has been better than the last - and the standard was very high the first time we visited
Eating at Launceston Place is always a wonderful experience. The quality of the food is first rate; the attention to detail and presentation are very impressive. The staff were most attentive and friendly. The assistance with the wine and cheeses was detailed, knowledgeable and given with interest. This was our third time at Launceston Place and it just gets better and better. The perfect place for a special occasion.
Amazing food, great value for lunch
Food is always amazing despite being the great "value lunch". One of the (less and less) hidden gems in London.
We booked the restaurant for my husband's birthday. We liked the relaxed atmosphere in Launceston Place. The staff were all outstanding and helpful. The tasting menu was delicious and just what we wanted. Whilst I'd let them know we were celebrating, the birthday plate complete with candle was a lovely surprise at the end of the evening and I think highlighted their attention to detail.
We both agreed best food we have eaten for ages in another class !
Gorgeous pre-theatre treat
Just wonderful meal, service etc. The great deal on the pre-theatre menu meant we spend more on wine than food but it certainly didn't taste cheap. Can't wait for an occasion to spend longer over a full a la carte dinner, if only it wasn't in west London!
A hidden gem
Another wonderful meal at this most charming restaurant. Innovative menu, which Changes periodically. The staff are attentive and yet discreet. Our best restaurant find of the year. What a delight.
We went there for the first time. Now we understand why we needed to book in advance. Our first experience has been very impressed by the service and the food. The atmosphere is lovely. This place is a little secret of Kensington we believe.
Outstanding dining experience in all respects. The 30£ three course early dinner is a deal. But even the 48£ regular three couse selection is worth the price. Short rib entree portion was small but the presentation was beautiful. The wait staff was excellent, accommodating and made the experience more memorable. Anxious to return.
A great birthday surprise
This restaurant is my absolute favourite and is always the first choice for a birthday treat. The service is just outstanding, the attention to detail really makes a difference. The staff always have a smile on their faces, nothing is too much trouble, and their knowledge of the extensive menu is unquestionable. Thanks again for a great lunch experience.
Refined and creative recepies well executed. Nice friendly and upscale ambience. Wines a bit overpriced. You can really have a conversation at yor table!
Exquisite food. Lovely amuse bouche. Set menu fantastic value. Ambiance for lunch very pleasant. Attentive service. Didn't rush us although we were late and really appreciated that whilst they were 'closed 'let us tarry. Tucked away in an attractive enclave, would definitely visit again though location a tad inconvenient.
Launceston Place delivers on all levels. From the first taste of the canapes to the sweets with your coffee the food looks great but also tastes great........unlike so many other restaurants which are style over substance.
The sommelier's enthusiasm is infectious and his wine pairing with the tasting menu was spot on.
I would recommend to anyone who genuinely enjoys quality food in a cosy, friendly and professional enviroment.
Truly a gem
The food was remarkable. The ingredients were perfect, seasonal, fresh and good quality and the technique was also well executed. The composition of the flavors was without a doubt balanced.
The cherry on the cake was the suggestion of Agustin the someliere who introduced us to an amazing Spanish wine from Catalunya that of course fit our dinner amazingly. It was totally worth it!
Terrific evening. Wonderful food and ambience with fantastic service. Cheese choices are fantastic.
Market Menu Outstanding Value
For £48.00 you get three rather filling courses and lovely amuse-bouche in between each.
Came out full and satisfied.
The service was great, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Would highy recommend.
Outstanding pre-theatre dinner
My husband and I had the most amazing pre-theatre dinner at Launceston Place. The staff were thoughtful and attentive and our meal was just stunning. We didn't realise the pre-theatre menu had to be pre-ordered and were pressed for time. Nevertheless the staff and chef obliged, for which we were very grateful. I would recommend this restaurant for a treat, which it truly was for us. However this establishment would also be fitting for a business lunch. And if you can afford to dine here often, lucky you.
We treated our mother on her 81st birthday to a tasting menu at the Launceston and what a good choice that was! We enjoyed the culinary craft, every taste bud was stirred by the innovative creations (ice mustard e.g.). Also the wine was top. The surprise touch over coffee at the end of that outstanding feast of flavours - a written chocolate reference to our mother's special day - rounded off a perfect evening. Qualtiy and price were well matched, completely recommendable!
An absolute delight
This was our first visit to Launceston Place but it certainly won't be the last. We had the tasting menu with accompanying wines and we're extremely happy with both. The food was excellent, varied and in just the right amount considering there are as many courses. The sommelier made every effort to tailor the wines to our tastes as well as always matching the dishes perfectly. All of the staff were excellent, attentive service but in no way overbearing or intrusive.
I can't recommend this highly enough.
great evening, exceptional food, very attentive, relaxed and genuine staff
Very good quality food at sensible prices. Wine list a bit "toppy" though.
I googled top restaurants
I googled top restaurants in London prior to coming to UK from USA, and chose Launceston Place based on people's review. It was also very close to where our son is studying abroad. We had a six course meal. Some entree was unique to British. Dinner was pricey, but comparatively average for such fine dining. We plan to re-visit our son again next month, and will probably have a dinner there again.
We had a very special evening at this fine restaurant. The food was superb and the wine list does not disappoint. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to visit again.
Excellent Sunday lunch - with a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate the recent award of 4 AA rosettes, which the staff are rightly proud of. Good and interesting choices on the £29.50 menu, and every dish showed imagination and finesse.
Quite easy to locate - in
Quite easy to locate - in a nice quiet neighbourhood. Warmly welcomed by the manager, decor was nice and cosy and not ostentatious. Very comfortable.
Food is excellent and interesting choices offered. Very well presented. Great flavours. For Asians, portions sized just right.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone other than the fussiest. Overall expeirence was very very good.
Very fancy delicious vego food
Came here for a special weekend lunch with my Mum. Food was divine and I was thrilled to have such great vego choices. The staff are lovely, absolutely don't rush you at all. Definitely worth the price, the set menu means its really very reasonable and I can't wait to have an excuse to head back!
would come back again and again
Although this place is far for us (takes an hour and a half to get here), it is definitely worth the trek. The food is absolutely delicious & they also have (good) inventive ways of preparing and pairing food. I was impressed with every dish. They put in a huge effort into making everything taste very good. We had the market menu, and they let us add in an extra dish that I liked from the a la carte menu. Service is friendly and attentive.
I have already recommended this restaurant to friends, and I would not hesitate to do so again.
Outstanding !! Exceptional cooking
Went there with high expectations after the last time I was there under a different chef, but the food is just as impressive and unbelievably fresh.. Love it would look forward to visiting again
unbelievable good value
Set lunch was wonderful. Billed as 2 or 3 courses. We chose 2 delicious courses, the autumn vegetables with truffle cream cheese and the hake, potato, cucumber dish; but were wowed by the canapés, amuse bouche and delightful petit fours which made it truly excellent. Service warm and unobtrusive. The amuse bouche of cauliflower and lentil foam/mousse was spectacular.Every ingredient was shown off to its full advantage. Full marks to a great team and thank you for a memorable lunch.Still chatting about the marshmallow and lime experience on the train home.
Birthday lunch at Launceston Place
It turned out to be an inspired choice of venue for an intimate birthday lunch this week. Launceston Place was all it was cracked up to be - and much more. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful. And the food was quite outstanding. Being OAPs we very rarely eat out and even more rarely in somewhere so top-end. But hey, we haven't had a holiday this year so decided to treat ourselves. It was a wonderful experience.
Outstanding flavour experience. Never have been disappointed.
I had a business lunch here.
I had a business lunch here. The food was amazing although upon arrival it was fairly empty so had little atmosphere but most importantly the room was cold (maybe heating should have been on earlier before opening). Although to be fair, I didn't get a chance to mention this as was concentrating on work chat.
However, I loved the food and the service was good (although one of the young foreign waiters felt like he was still finding his feet).
Wonderfully creative food although would have liked a tiny bit more per plate.
One of my favourites at a very reasonable price.
Excellent food and service,
Excellent food and service, it could not be faulted.
My wife and I had a very enjoyable evening.
Brilliant birthday treat
Really great food and wine. Efficient but friendly service made for a wonderful night overall.
Our first time at this restaurant.
Our first time at this restaurant. We tried the tasting menu with the matching wine selection. Fabulous food combined with equally great service. Already planning a return visit.
Saturday evening meal for a treat... absolute treat! Great presentation and flavours, great service, great evening.
Attention to detail
Great food quality, excellent presentation and impecable service. All at a reasonable price.
Another quiet lunch
Excellent service as usual at Launceston Place. Three courses of some of the best prepared and presented food in London for £24 is good value. We had 1/2 bottle of Mount Difficulty Pinot Noir and a flight of dessert wines.
An excellent lunch
