PERFECT AS ALWAYS
Visited on 9th April for a birthday meal with my (grown-up) daughter. As always the staff were attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food was excellent and authentic - another superb evening at Satay House.
Great food exceptional service
Stay House is a family run restaurant with authentic malaysian food and exceptional service. My husband and I had Sunday lunch here and left feeling very full and very happy! The set menu was great value for money and we will definitely go back.
Unbelievable find tucked away a moments walk from Edgware Road
Food is so good, I'm actually getting hungry just writing this.
Chicken Satay, Battered Prawns and Malaysian Chicken Curry is the best I've ever tastes!
Lychee juice is also
great food and lots of it.
we ordered the tasting menu and each dish had such wonderful flavors. So many dishes of food though that it was hard to get through. really fantastic.
Always great food!
I would highly recommend Satay House if you like mild or spicy Asian food this is the place for you - good portion sizes, nice waiting staff, what more could you want?! We go here regularly with work friends.
As always, excellent food
As always, excellent food at SATAY HOUSE. Thanks to all concerned!
My second visit to this restaurant. Two of us lunched on a Friday 26th April at 12.15 and we almost had the place to ourselves. Food was superb as before and the service very good. Excellent value for money.
Satay House has redeemed itself
As a long-time fan of this restaurant I was very disappointed on my last visit to discover that the erstwhile excellently authentic food had taken a sharp turn for the worse - something that was also confirmed by other friends. Recently, however, those same friends assured me that Satay House was now back to its former glory and I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did. My favourite dish - the same that disappointed last time - was indeed as good as I knew it could be. I once again have no compunctions about recommending Satay House to others and I will definitely be back for more.
As a malaysian, this is as authentic malay food you can get in London without having to board a 14 hr flight.
Absolutely Fabulous Malaysian Food
The food was fantastic. From the appetizers to the main courses to the desserts, everything was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spices and sauces. The chicken satay was the best I have ever eaten in the world. I am a Malaysian, so I can tell from personal experience. It was much better than the satay that I have eaten in Malaysia. The Kuay Teow Goreng was simply delicious. The curries had the right blend of spices, sauce and curry mix, could not have been better. There was only one drawback: the service was mediocre to say the least. The waiters never filled our empty glasses with water until they were told to do so and it was very difficult getting their attention when I wanted something.
Good Malay Cuisine, average Satay
I went to Satay House on the recommendation of a few reviewers and Time Out's declaration that the Satay was one of the Top 100 Dishes in London. Whilst I found the Rendang Daging to be excellent with a hearty kick of spice and flavour, and my vegetarian friend greatly enjoyed her Aubergine Curry, I was let down by the Satay. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been scouring London for satay that lives up to the standards set by the famous Satay Club in Singapore and I'd been led to believe that here my quest would be at an end. Whilst the peanut sauce was tangy and nicely spiced, I just found the meat to be somewhat lacking. A real shame as otherwise I'd have given them 5 stars.
Try it. You'll like it.
Good unpretentious Malaysian food. Excellent service. Great value.
fast service good varied menu
well presented and delicious
will go back again
As a half-Malaysian who has only ever visited my Mum's homeland, I can't claim to be an expert on the cuisine, but this place tasted pretty authentic and the food was delicious! The waitress was lovely and it was nice to get advice from someone who had actually eaten the restaurant's food. The portions are enormous (watch out for the kway teow, it REALLY is to share) which is great to see, no scrimping here! Will def come again - optimum group would be 4 (as we were) as it makes it easier to share (and with the large portions, that's no bad thing) - and that's coming from a greedy, greedy girl!
Back to former glories
I've been countless times to Satay House and I'm glad to say that following a disappointing visit at the end of last year the restaurant is now back to it's former glories. The main selling point of Satay House, in my opinion, is delicious food with authentic flavours for a steal. The service is ok - it's friendly but tends to be a bit slow and sometimes lacking attention. The restautant itself is nicely decorated and has a warm welcoming feel about it.
Always good to go here, amazing food at reasonable prices
Authentic Malaysian in London
Really enjoyed dinner at Satay House. The flavours brought back wonderful memories of time spent in the country.
Service was friendly and we will be going back when we get a craving for a good Nasi Lamek!
Fresh juices were excellent.
Fresh juices were excellent. Service was fast. The waiter was good -- though he did not check in quite enough. Food was very tasty and authentic.
Great malaysian restaurant
I've been to satay house in paddington several times with friends, the food is fabulous as is the value. Venue is small and it does feel a little claustrophobic downstairs but don't let that deter you. I have always had good service which was friendly. I would go again.
The place is small so not
The place is small so not really suitable for large groups but the waiters are very helpful as very polite. The food arrives quickly and the portions are very reasonable.
Authentic Malaysian Flavour
Being a Malaysian, I would say this is so far the best authentic Malaysian food that I have tasted in London.
However, the satays (skewers of char-grilled chicken/mutton) were not up to my expectation.
The air bandung was not nice, I guess it was due to the milk used.
Staff are friendly and courteous.
I went with a friend who had never experienced Malaysian food, he loved it and keeps asking when we can return! The food is so lovely and tastes clean and fresh! I am vegetarian, there are lots of options, the aubergine curry was the best curry I have ever had! Love it there, can't wait to return.
Another nice meal
I have eaten here many times before the food is always good and nicely presented, there is no rush about anything which is good if you just want to talk. I was there with a friend we wanted to catch up with news etc we sat for nearly 3 hours and were not asked if we wanted our bill or anything that would make you feel that they wanted rid of you, all very nice.
Authentic Malaysian food
I am a Malaysian living in London and always go to Satay House when I need my fill of home food. The food is authentic, tasty, and reasonably priced. The decor is cool and comfortable and service is always friendly.
Dishes are great all round with my standouts being Ayam Goreng Bawang Putih, Sambal Udang Petai, Beef Rendang, Kangkung Belacan, and Satay.
Well done Satay-House
We went after reading a few reviews and it was worth it. It Was very good overall, my wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service on a Saturday evening.
The Satay House is reliable for good food and nice service. Everything on the menu is delicious, and the tables give a fair amount of space. Recommended.
Satay House - The Verdict
An enjoyable evening was spent with my daughter and I. We like to try different food cultures, as we haven't visited the country, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The choice was extensive, the waiter, very helpful in choice & quantities and the bill, so reasonable my daughter paid. She wants a return visit very soon. My only fear is that she may return without me. Excellent stuff.
First time - needed a good Nasi Gor
Walked past many times and went for the first time for a Nasi. Very good. Not quite the Far East but good enough ! Full with locals and Malys.
Satay House Paddington
Great flavours and taste sensations! If you like Malaysian food or want a change from the normal Thai, Indian and Chinese options, Satay House provides a welcome alternative. If you're vegan you may struggle a little, but meat eaters and pescatarians have a great choice. The service is generally very good and I'm always impressed that the waiters know the Malaysian names for the dishes. Everyone I've taken here loves the food, including Malaysian friends. Thoroughly recommended!
Great food and service
The food is authentic and delicious, the service friendly and efficient, and excellent value too! I will keep going back!
Authentic local fare
Satay House is a well known establishment for authentic Malaysian cuisine. Really enjoyed our food. We had the sambal ikan bilis and petai, telur tofu/dadar (vege option) and nasi kampung. Overall really tasty and good value although the plain boiled rice is pricey for plain boiled rice and I suspect a little msg somewhere. Am generally wary of that sneaky ingredient however I would put up with a little of it in the case of Satay House. Same opinion for other diners. Ambiance wise, the place is small and can be tight with big groups upstairs, we were sat downstairs which had an alcove for a big group. Both spaces are a warm and welcoming environment.
We have visited the Satay house intermittently over a span of 30 years. The food is always good, a mixture of veg and non-veg options with different spice levels to please all palates. The satays are always good to get your mouth livened up! This time we enjoyed the Nasi Lemak with Sambal prawns....delicious and the beef dish equally so.
Would recommend booking as it is a fairly small restaurant full of an eclectic mix of nationalities, including of course Malaysians!!
Three of us ate an early dinner here. Busy and vibrant but good service. Lovely and v tastey food. Would definitely go back! Yum!
Authentic Malaysian Food☆
The service was outstanding very attentive, some of the food were way too over priced, but Overall I am very satisfied, and will go back there again!!
Another great night
I always enjoy going to the Satay House. It really is the best Malaysian food in London.
Particularly good to go there with friends that have never sampled the taste sensations from that amazing country.
lovely halal food malaysian styke
Great halal food well worth the money. Malaysian food at its tastiest best.
Excellent food - perhaps the
Excellent food - perhaps the best Malaysian in London. You can tell by all the Malaysian nationals who frequent it! The beef rendang is melt in your mouth and the Laksa is super authentic. The first time I ate here it was in the early 90s as a teenager. It is still here and still good and has modernised with the times. Great value and friendly service make this a go-to for Malaysian food.
Satay House Scores again
This is a reasonably priced bustling restaurant with good food. Atmosphere is buzzy rather than rowdy. By seven o clock on a Wednesday evening it was nearly full and a lot of the customers looked Malaysian which is a good sign. Staff attentive . I go here reasonably often even though I am not excited by the menu any more. GIVE IT A TRY !
Booked this after finding reviews on Tripadvisor and net. Although tucked away in a quiet location this only enhanced the quality of its presence and service, creating a great ambiance for both couples and groups alike. The food was appealing to look at and even more appealing to taste. The subtitles of the spices did not hide the foods natural flavours and left the palate wanting more. If visiting for the first time, staff will certainly share their knowledge to guide you through the menu for you to experience what is surely dining at it's best. If you are fortunate enough to visit this restaurant please handle it with care as it is a "little gem" and should remain so.
We did a friends birthday
We did a friends birthday at the Satay House and brought our own birthday cake which was a surprise to the restaurant staff as we did not inform them about it.
Staff were very friendly and more then happy to story the birthday cake in their fridge and to bring it out with candles and singing out of their own. Definitely a happy-to-go-back to place for us.
The food was absolutely delicious. We had a range of dishes and they were all superb. I've just got back from Malaysia and was craving Malaysian food. The food at Satay House was even better than the excellent food we had in Malaysia.
We ate chicken satay for starter, stir-fried noodles and roti canai. All was fabulous. We found the flavours of our malaysian trip! The service was very nice and the restaurant is beautiful! However it was a little cold.. Thanks!
Great food - bit tricky to
Great food - bit tricky to find. Cozy and lovely waiters.
Cosy & Tasty
I went to this restaurant for a weekend lunch. We opted for the downstairs seating as it was more cosy & spacious. Decor is warm & sleek. Service is good, but we were the 1st ones in. The food was delicious, especially the beef & chicken curries. Palm sugar & tapioca dessert was like a whole new adventure! Banana fritters were nice, but could do with a bit more crunch.
I enjoyed visiting Satay House with a friend from university, who I had not seen since we graduated 33 years ago! He was visiting the UK with his family and he contacted me a week earlier to let me know that he would be in London. I was uncertain how our 'reunion' would go and decided on a Malaysian themed restaurant to make my guest and his family feel at home as they were from Sabah. I telephoned ahead to confirm my reservation and received a prompt and friendly response. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and were shown to a good table in the corner of the dining room. The food was authentic, plentiful and really good, the service was first rate and the decor relaxing. My guests and I felt that Satay House was excellent.
This was my first Malaysian food experience and it was a pleasant one.
We were in a group of five and all had something different so we could share, plus some rice and bread (plain and egg & onion).
The food wasn't as spicy as I thought but most dishes did have a chilli kick.
The satay chicken and battered prawn starters were lovely and my favourite main meal was the aromatic lamb curry.
Banana fritters and the black rice pudding was apparently very good.
Coffee was only average.
All in all a good experience and made a welcome change from Indian / Chinese.
We'll be back.
Recommended if you miss or want to try Malaysian food. The kari ayam, nasi lemak and ayam goreng berlada is to die for. Just that the portion isn't big enough especially if you're eating with a bunch of people. Other than that everything is perfect!
Recomended by a Malay friend
and he wasn't wrong. Good food. reasonable prices and reasonable selection. I would recomend reservations for later on in the evening as it is not a large place and fills up. Most of the clientele (with the exception of us) were Malay which says positive things about the place.
Delicious Malaysian Flavours
The decor is simple but effective, with a clean and fresh feel. We had a very helpful waiter and waitress who helped me avoid nut products and looked after us well. As a group of four, we chose two of the set menus. The variety of flavours, spices and meats/fish was very pleasing. Quantity was perfect for us, with plenty of rice. Superb dessert! Really enjoyed the occasion and would definitely go back again.
Lovely Malaysian experience
Went out for dinner to Satay house with friends and what a pleasant experience this was.
We all went for one of the taster menus so that we could all try different things.
The food wasn't as spicy as I thought it might be but all dishes were very flavorsome.
The aromatic Malaysian lamb curry and Sambal Tumis Udangs were really nice but my favorite main meal was the Daging Goreng Kicap (Stir-fried beef in soy sauce with chillies).
Service was really good too and not intrusive. We were left to enjoy our meal until we were ready to leave
All in all a really enjoyable experience and will definitely recommend.
