Potting Shed delight
Enjoyed great food at good prices with delicious wine. Wish we lived locally!
Three of us came along to celebrate one of us having a birthday. It was the first time our friend had been there. She was overwhelmed at the ambience and friendlyness she encountered.
The Potting Shed - spectacular!
An excellent environment, excellent beers, excellent wine list, excellent food. Very reasonably priced. And the staff are lovely. I can't recommend it enough!
Great food, great atmosphere
Fantastic meals all round, good size portions and good service.
All round excellent dining experience.
That rare glorious 'pub'
We have been to the Potting Shed twice now, it's not a regular visit as it is over 25 miles from home. The menu was completely different on our visits and neither disappointed. A great variety of dishes, some adventurous, others more conservative. Great portion sizes, a wide variety of drinks, really friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. I call it a pub, which doesn't really do this gastronomic experience justice, the restaurant and pub are attached but there is a defined 'separation' (which I always admire) between dining and drinking.
Lovely restaurant in a classic pub!
We had a lovely meal at this restaurant on Saturday evening for my partner's birthday. The staff were excellent, very accomodating and the food was very imaginative and tasty. Highly recommend the T-bone steak if it available - one of the best ever! Really pretty pub inside, very tastefully decorated without being over the top.
Limited vegetarian options
Everything was excellent, the only drawback was the lack of vegetarian options on the menu - one as a starter and one as a main course. This is OK is the 'vegetarian' eats fish which as a vegetarian you wouldn't normally and on this occasion the two 'veggies' didn't eat fish. The main vegetarian course was delicious however the description didn't do it any favours. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends.
Our new favourite restaurant
A lovely warm atmosphere, extremely friendly and attentive staff and exceptionally good food
Great Dog friendly Pub
What a fantastic find. The staff were wonderfully friendly from the time we walked in. We were offered a drinks offer from a wide range of ales, gins, cocktails and wines. The menu offered a good selection of interesting gourmet dishes and pub staples including the obligatory sunday roast. The food was lovely and fresh although some of the vegetables were a little too aldente and the jus on the roasts a little thin. The pub has a lovely ambience with warm cosy rooms, a large light high ceiling room and on a nice day tables out on the grass for dinning alfresco. Dog are not just welcomed but embraced with open arms. The only downside was we didn't take ours so we shall just have to go back so he can sample the dog biscuits on the bar.
Great value and great quality
we went to the potting shed for my sons birthday meal. A warm and friendly greeting and atmosphere, staff could to have been more helpful or accommodating, lovely decor, all the art stopped us being able to choose what we wanted off the menu. My son is very conservative in his eating choices, but he was able to choose starter and main courses that he liked, he and all of us polished everything off on our plates, plenty of bread offered at the beginning of the meal, and although we didn't have pudding, they looked fabulous. This is a very good restaurant, the menu is interesting, something for everyone, not in the least pretentious, we will Definately be going back, with 3 drinks each, starter and main course, £25 per head.
We took some American friends
We took some American friends who were completely bowled over by the setting and atmosphere and enjoyed the food tremendously.
Fantastic meal for 5 of us, my 11 year old loved the Steak Tartare and his Venison Burger. Scallops were cooked perfectly and my Potted Tongue was Great. Lovely friendly service. Sure to return soon!
My Wife and I had dinner on Tuesday night, and this was the first time we'd been after having it recommended to us. The food was amazing and we had a brilliant time. Foodies will love the menu, as it offers some really interesting choices and combinations, which are perfectly cooked.
The service is relaxed and friendly, and the atmosphere, on a Tuesday night at least, is perfect for a relaxing night out.
We're buying a house 5 minutes down the road, so we're certainly going back! The Potting Shec has just gone to the top of the list of our favourite resturants.
Picked this place off the internet never even having visited the village it is in although it's only about 7 miles away from us. Very pleasantly surprised, friendly ambience, obviously very popular and busy. Staff were very friendly without being obsequious and we enjoyed our visit. The menu is interesting without being ridiculously avant-garde or expensive, although the main courses were less inspiring than the starters. What we had, though, was beautifully cooked and very tasty. We spent a little more than we normally would - around £45 per person, but felt we'd had a good feast by the end of it. Would visit again.
Starter and main meal beautiful, service not as good as previous visits - Came last year and had better service and pudding!
Found this online when looking for a country pub with ambiance but not chintz. The small garden is lovely... shame the weather wasn't on our side. Inside the low beams and leather sofas give the place a homely feel and the decoration is the right side of 'Country and Garden'. We noticed the veg patch on the way in and the 'in season' asparagus was on the menu. We ordered asparagus as our starter.. chargrilled with ash goat's cheese.. nicely distinctive way of serving a classic dish. The rest of the menu seemed fairly ordinary from the descriptions but when our meals arrived it was clear that some imagination had been applied. One small moan would be that as a vegetarian I only had one option. Few more veggie option please?
Lovely, rustic, village pub!
It was a sunny Sunday evening. The location is as close to a nice, rustic country pub as you can get. There is plenty on the walls and ceilings to distract you! Service was prompt quick and friendly. The food was delicious with certain dishes obviously proving more popular than others.
We would definitely return when in the area.
A lack of training showed
Went for celebratory birthday lunch on a very pleasant, sunny mid week day in May. The food was excellent but the experience was a little marred by the fact that the tables are such, that unless you are very short, it is impossible to get your knees under. Although having seen that a table in the window was higher, our request to move there was readily acquiesced to. We were served by several of the young staff and with the exception of the "restaurant supervisor" they all seemed unfamiliar with both the menu and wine list and unsure of which table had ordered what. This was a shame as the staff were very pleasant and willing, but just lacking in training to provide efficient, unobtrusive service.
The Potting Shed welcomed our group of catching up girlies with warmth and politeness. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and the evening.
Perfect Saturday Lunch
Beautiful little pub, Beautiful weather so ate in the gardens. Food perfect and staff very accomodating!
Was recommended the Potting Shed by family and now I know why as we will be recommending to family and friends as well. They phoned and confirmed my e-booking the day before we were due to attend. The whole experience was wonderful. The food was very tasty and well presented. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and it was nice to see the waiters looking smart but informal and all served our meal rather than just have one. Our teenage sons are not 'foodies' but not only did they clear their plates they wanted to taste what we had ordered as well. We shared the cheese board which was perfectly portioned and beautifully executed.
I wish this Pub was our local!
I have been to the Potting Shed before and remembered how much I had enjoyed it so decided to book it for my Mum's 92nd Birthday lunch. The staff were lovely on the phone and assured us a table our Mum could get to in a wheelchair. We could, it was a bit difficult as I arrived on my own at first with my Mum and the doors were a bit awkward, but I know someone would have helped if I'd asked.
I absolutely adore the rumpled, scruffy and extremely stylish look of the Potting Shed and really wish it was my local pub. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and comfortable without being precious and I will be eating there more often with my husband in future.
Most of us had a roast and every plate cleaned except by my beautiful reed thin niece!!
Will definitely return
Lovely simple unfussy tasty food with the occasional quirky twist. Good choice of beers. Relaxed atmosphere and decor which is authentic rather than contrived. Food is said to be seasonal and locally-sourced: would like to see the sources of meat identified somewhere on the menu (I prefer to see the provenance for myself; these terms are used so frequently now and sadly it is often as 'buzz-words' without justification!)
Always worth a visit
The Potting Shed is always worth a visit and delivers just what's expected: Interesting food, a buzzy pub atmosphere and if the weather is good, lots of room to eat outside. We've eaten there often and never been disappointed.
I've been here before with friends and family on several occasions so know how good the food is, so thought I should try it for a date. Good decision. Great atmosphere (even though it was relatively quiet on a Sunday evening), really relaxed, tables in the restaurant part are big so you are not cramped. Service is friendly but unobtrusive. And the food........well it just seems to get better and better. Menus are great and the flavours are awesome.
Full marks for The Potting Shed!
This is the second time my girlfriend and I have visited The Potting Shed. Fantastic food on both occasions. Excellent, friendly service and lovely ambience. Highly recommended and we'll certainly be back again soon!
Visited earlier this year for the first time and loved the food, the service and generally the vibe within the venue. Hadn't expected to be back so soon, but noticed the menu had been changed. Slight trepidation, but the food was equally as good as before. A must visit when in the Cotswolds.
We had both lunch and dinner at the Potting Shed and both were fabulous... food, flavours and service were just outstanding!
Pre birthday meal
I booked the Potting Shed as a pre birthday meal for my husband. We bookef a Saturday lunch time as our son was home from university and it also fitted in with mine and our daughters working schedule. We arrived a few minutes late due to sat nav taking us the long way round. We were greeted at the bar where we ordered drinks and were shown to our table. Our food order was taken quickly by a very pleasant waiter. Some lovely fresh bread was bought to out table which was a nice touch. We all had three courses and everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We had a wander round the garden before we left. Will definitely make a return visit and will recommend to friends. Thanks for a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday.
Nice meal especially the puds, good service I will definitely be going back
This place will grow on you!
Lived up to its good reputation. Interesting and varied menu. The rabbit dish was excellent. Our fellow diners are vegetarians and they found plenty of choice. Good atmosphere. Pleasant and helpful staff who did not bat an eyelid at our request to share two starters between four. Its a 40 minute drive for us but worth it!
Nice meal but vegetarian options are limited and our guest thought food was very salty. Lovely puddings!
R and S's trip to the Potting Shed
We had a really lovely evening: the pub is well presented and the beer was great (wine a little expensive). The food was often really impressive - S had a starter of sardines which were delicious, and an imaginative cheese board inc figs was our dessert. Our waitress was really helpful and friendly and even brought food out to the tree lit garden later on. A recommended destination for a great meal on a special occasion.
Excellent quality gastro pub
Really enjoyed the rabbit - drinks seemed rather expensive which pushed the cost to £30 per head
Fantastic place to eat.
Probably the best dining experience I've ever had. The food was exceptional, the setting fantastic and the staff excellent.
Fantastic country pub
Lucky enough to have this great foodie pub in our village. We have a young son so don't get out as much as we'd like - when we do, it is ultra important that the evening goes well. The Potting Shed delivered on all fronts on this occasion - great menu which changes each month. My horseradish cured trout with watercress sorbet was superb as was an imaginative rabbit main course. Service and ambiance were spot on. Wine list not bad and our NZ Pinot noir was fab and reasonably priced. Pre-dinner cocktail taken by the bar was great too. An excellent night out!
Very nice pub / restaurant.
Very nice pub / restaurant. Decorated in a nice potting shed style. Clean and comfortable. Excellent menu choice, food beautifully cooked and presented. Staff could not be friendlier.
Excellent Sunday Lunch, guaranteed
Not our first trip, by any means. An excellent location with excellent food. Can't praise it enough.
I was late as I got stuck in traffic because of a marathon. The staff were very understanding. When I did arrive I did not feel rushed or hurried, even though the place was buzzing and they might have needed the table. The food was really good as I don't like meat much I had a quiche with a nicely dressed salad. All presented beautifully. The cheese board was very nice and presented well too (my friend took pictures!) I will be back...
Lovely food and cute decor
Very rustic, lovely place. Friendly staff. Gorgeous food.
As brilliant as ever.
Second time eating at The Potting Shed, and it certainly won't be the last. Love it.
perfect countryside setting
scallops starter and venison wellington the best options!
This is an excellent friendly pub with better than average food. You need to book at weekend as it is busy. This is a dog friendly place and that suits the laid back atmosphere. A good meal and drinks with friends, this is a great place to choose.
Great Sunday lunch
Went for a double birthday, great ambience and warm welcome. Service was a bit patchy but the staff were so lovely (and Sunday lunch probably their busiest time) so we couldn't help but forgive them! The food was delicious but we found some portions a bit small, and sadly the rice pudding, although delicious, was undercooked, and two of us left it. However, the roast beef was spectacular, also our starters of pork cheek and scallops, and the cheesecake dessert was scrumptious. All in all a great place for our birthdays and we'll be happy to go again.
Very good Indeed
Really great place to eat. solid menu and good beer. excellent interior with very thoughtful displays.
Great food, noisy evening
The Potting Shed is always fabulous and the food and service were great - the evening was a bit spoilt though by children running wild all evening (shouting, running about and throwing toys) which stopped it being a relaxed evening.
Quite a small menu choice, but everyone's meal was delicious. Service a bit slow (it was a busy Saturday night) but staff were very helpful.
We arrived early but were given a very warm welcome and by the time we had ordered our drinks the table was ready. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was very good and well presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend it and will return again at some point in the future.
Group of 4. Warm welcome, not pressed for space or time, food excellent particularly roasts, nice ambience.
Cost reasonable. All in all a happy experience and one to be repeated.
delicious home cooking
We arrived for a 2pm sitting on a Sunday so as expected it was very busy but after ordering a drink at the bar we were quickly seated on a lovely table. We had to wait 15 minutes before we had our order taken but understand the place was packed. The service after this time was outstanding.
My starter of smoked duck with plums was delicious. My partner had a celariac and chestnut tortellini which really wasn't at all nice. After telling our waiter, he informed the chef and removed it from our bill.
The roast dinner was fantastic. All freshly prepared and seasonal. I had roast pork and my partner roast beef. Wow we cannot wait to return for this food again. Amazing thank you! !
