For those who love meat
Great food, fast group service when busy, (we ate at 8PM) the beer can be paired well to any dish.
Beavertown beers are always a winner.
Well worth a trip!
Tasty but still searching...
Ribs were relatively sweet with a dark treacle flavour, very tender though. Wings were well coated in sauce and had a good amount of flavour. Choice is fairly limited in terms of the type of BBQ you can get.
Took my partner there for her birthday. We are both beer overs, so the Beavertown Craft Beers were a draw and didn't disappoint. Great cocktails too. The food was fantastic, the beef rib is amazing. I guess you could argue it's not haute cuisine and the drinks are a little pricey, but it's London and the menu suited me just fine. As good as the food and drinks were, what I found really refreshing was the quality and friendliness of service, outstanding, could certainly teach a few more up market establishments a thing or two. This was I fell reflected by the plentiful amount of customers, yes it was a Saturday night, but there were no spare tables, never a bad sign in my book. Highly recommended :-)
Dalston's own barbecue pit
We had the platter for 2 people.
It was nice but unfortunately it was not have enough for 2 people, unlike somewhere like Bodeans's whose platter more than fills you. We were also disappointed by the tiny servings of sauce that the platter had.
Staff were friendly & the outdoor area was a nice addition, especially on a hot day like when we visited. We also enjoyed the beer made by their own Beavertown Brewery.
Great BBQ food
Ordered the pork and beef ribs and both were great. Highly recommend.
The ambiance and vibe of the restaurant is great- cool without trying too hard. Staff are friendly and attentive and food come out quickly probably more so because we were the first seating at 5pm. The portion sizes were good but not huge like I read in other reviews. My boyfriend had the beef rib which was great and I had the pork sliders which were good but slightly dry and could have done with extra sauce. It came with slaw in the burgers not as a "side" which it said on the menu. Overall definitely go back it was great although for £5 per pint the bill at the end was higher than expected not because of the food
Delicious ribs, friendly service, and a beer menu longer than the food menu! Duke's was great - although very very noisy. Would recommend for a casual dinner.
Probably the best ribs I've ever had and good, friendly service. Rather expensive though....
Decided to eat here after
Decided to eat here after a recommendation from a friend and would certainly return. The restaurant itself is in a pretty non descript area but don't let that put you off. The food was exactly as described on their website. I went for the beef rib and have never seen such a big slab of meat that was so tenderly cooked it just fell off the bone. I went there with a group of guys and the food was exactly what we wanted. The restaurant itself has a very relaxed informal atmosphere perfect for dining with friends. I look forward to returning at some point...
Very tasty food with generous
Very tasty food with generous portions, and an excellent beer menu. Due to their desire to fit in as many siitings as possible we were only given a 1.5 hour slot for dinner which is not enough time - only criticism.
Actually a bit disappointed with this visit. Pork ribs were good but beef rib was dry and chewy. In retrospect should have sent it back. Dukes have put their prices up big time and it's not really worth it.
Cannot be faulted, great ribs & the Apricot IPA washed everything down wonderfully!
Tasty food in a buzzing atmosphere
My friends and I enjoyed a fun summer's evening at Duke's. Whilst I went there mainly to try the Beavertown Brewery at its HQ, I was impressed by the food, which definitely hold its own against competitors in the growing - increasingly close to being saturated - London BBQ/burger scene. My pals loved their ribs - one of them ordering a 2nd helping - whilst my burger was delicious. The only weak item among the food we ordered was the Mac & cheese. We've all had a lot better in London, let alone elsewhere. The beer was good. Gamma Ray was a tasty as I expected. All in all somewhere I would definitely return to, particularly as I fancy a pint in their buzzing bar area.
Excellent food, beer and staff
This is one of the few places I've been to where the staff seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves and taking pride in their establishment. Food is excellent and the choice of ales and craft beers (lots of which are brewed on the premises by their own Beavertown brewery) is also excellent. I almost hesitate to recommend it as it's already difficult to get a table due to it's popularity!!
Duke's was fantastic! We arrived
Duke's was fantastic! We arrived late for our reservation and about 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, but the host was very accommodating in finding us a table in such a packed restaurant. Both meals we ordered were fantastic; as people who are very familiar with BBQ, it was delicious and authentic. The Mac N Cheese was heavenly! As it is not overly close to the center of London, it was definitely worth the trip over. Thank you for a wonderful meal, Duke's.
Lively and fun place, very
Lively and fun place, very busy but this doesn't impact on service. Had been a few times with friends and its always a good laugh, the beef ribs are highly recommended and they have a great booze selection. Always best to book but a few people seem to wing it and get tables. Close to the Dalston strip so a good start point for a night out also.
Excellent food but..... the
Excellent food but..... the beef rib was overcooked and dissapointing!!
Amazing BBQ joint
Duke's looks like an old local pub turned into a BBQ joint; mixed clientele including locals, trendy types and people celebrating birthdays with friends. Very relaxed atmosphere with really friendly staff - friendly like they're your friends, rather than friendly in an American serving-robot type way. Food was amazing, although it's not cheap. I had the 3 pork ribs for £15-something. They didn't look like much when they came out but there was so much meat on them that I was stuffed. My friend and I both over-ordered in terms of quantity but ate the lot because it was so tasty. Would definitely go there again, and recommend to friends, but it would have to be a special occasion to justify it, I think.
Very tasty American style food - ribs, chicken wings and mac n' cheese all really good.
Get your BBQ here!
Are you hungry? Do you want the most luscious beef ribs you've ever tasted? [btw, it is the size of your forearm, so be warned]. This is a friendly but super busy neighbourhood joint which has become a destination spot, so book early and often.
In one word "ribs", in 2 words "Chicken Wings", in 3 words "Deep Fried Pickles"
For some serious meat go here, the food is bloody delicious, the staff are friendly and they have a great range of drinks - cider lovers have to try the Devon Mist. You can rack up a bit of a bill but everything is at such a high standard it can be forgiven.
I've been here many times and it's always a treat!
Best ribs in town. For a price.
Duke's Brew & Que has, hands down, the best ribs I have eaten outside of the US. If you're a fan of Southern US style barbeque, you owe it to yourself to go and try them, at least once. The only thing that holds me back from a full-on recommendation for anyone is that they are extraordinarily expensive. The beef rib is £22, a plate of four pork ribs £21, and prices of almost all their rib dishes hover around a similar price point. No problem, were it not for the fact that they don't come with sides other than a meagre helping of coleslaw and pickled onions that are more garnish than anything else. You're looking at closer to 30 quid for a good meal, more if you want to sample their extensive beer selection or try their wings (recommended).
Brew & Que Great atmosphere!
Friday night at 9 a great time to go and sample an extraordinary range of beers and tackle meaty ribs. No fussy starters, no room for puds. Beer & beef or pork and IPA- it's all you need. Staff wonderfully friendly; informal, enthusiastic and very attentive. Will we go back ? You bet!
We went here on Daturday evening and we were really glad we had chosen it.
The atmosphere was great. The selection of drinks was huge, great for men with all the beers they have to offer.
The pork ribs were so juicy and soft.
We also had the pulled pork sliders and chilli fries. All were very good.
Will be returning!!
I had the biggest burger ever! it was so cool and you could feel the American way of making it! Just great! but price
Consistently awesome food at Dukes!
I love this place. The staff are always extremely friendly, the venue is cool yet cosy and the food is some of the best in London. Chicken wings, Ribs and pulled pork is always consistently top notch, my mouth water just thinking about it! Make a trip there and make sure you book in advance for weekends.
Amazing beef ribs
friendly staff, great beef ribs, amazing chicken wings and generally a great place to go and stuff your face with meat and delicious beer
Great food & Good ambience
We ate on a Friday night here and it was buzzing, the place was packed but not overcrowded. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. There was a great range of beers for my boyfriend, which tasted good.
Could not recommend this place more, will be going back.
When you take a group of Americans to a barbecue restaurant and after one bite they all say "Good Call!", I'd say that's a success!
Loved this place. The food and beer was great. The beef ribs are to die for. Can't wait to go back there.
ALL OF THE MEAT
Visited with my wife on recommendation of friends; I'd re-recommend to anyone else.
We both had the 'Greatest Hits' platter: 1x massive beef rib, 1x pork rib, pulled pork, plus coleslaw & red onion stuff.
Also chilli beef fries as a shared side.
Food mostly excellent, especially the beef rib which was flavoursome throughout. Chilli beef fries were also really nice. Pork rib was the only slightly sub-par aspect for me; tasted a bit 'fuely', like it had been too close to a firelighter on the barbecue (I'm sure they don't use firelighters in their kitchen, but that was what it reminded me of).
Not cheap- £75 for food + 3 drinks (1 soft)- but quantity and quality of food means it's very good value nevertheless.
good quality food and friendly speedy service from all the staff. allowed to stay at table for longer than the 90min alloted on the website. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Good beers and buzzing atmosphere.
Great Food! Even better Beer!
This is Beavertown brewery's pub. Great setting, top service, the beer obviously delicious (it's beavertown) and the ribs were excellent.
Ribs to die for
The ribs were truly excellent. Especially the beef. And the pork. And the baby back ribs. Great selection of beers, too. Not cheap, but very good value.
great beer & staff. ok bbq
Went Saturday evening. I'm a fan of Beavertown beers so was looking forward to eating here. We had the platter of pulled pork, pork rib & beef rib plus the chilli fries & spicy wings. All of it was ok but none of it blew us away. To be fair it was better than most UK BBQ I've had. It just makes me appreciate eating it in the US when I visit. Would definitely come back if only to work my way through the taps
Best barbecue in London. Coupled with an outstanding range of Beavertown and other breweries' beers, this place is a real winner.
Best ribs in London
Great ribs, great burger, great beer. What more do you want from a BBQ restaurant? Portions are large
great value, great mabience, great ribs...friendly service
Great Ribs and good beer
We had a group booking at 8.30 on a busy Saturday night. Despite this the service was very good. Food especially the pork ribs was delicious and melted off the bone. For dessert we managed to fit in the Shoofly pie and strawberry cake both tasted home-made and fresh. A good selection of beers including those from their beavertown brewery were enough to please the beer lovers in the group and there is also a decent cocktails list to boot. An enjoyable evening and reasonably priced - as long as you don't drink too much!
Get your smoked meats on!
I can't believe it took me this long to hit this place. Proper beef ribs akin to real Texan barbecue. Probably the closest thing you'll get to it in London anyway...
Had the BBQ platter - designed for one very hungry person but we shared between three with extra mac 'n' cheese and fries. Excellent food as ever and can recommend the Beavertown Neck Oil on tap. Delicious.
I can still taste it....
Great food. Friendly, good-humoured service, and an awesome selection of beer and cocktails. The Nuclear chicken wings are DEADLY. But hilarious to order for friends.
Great food and service
The service was excellent, with staff really taking time to explain what was available and what went well with what. Great food, too.
Always a good option!
Dukes is always a good option. The drinks are good, the beers are great and the food always hits the spot.
American BBQ in London
My wife and I really enjoyed the 17oz BBQ beef ribs, and we washed it down with a very good lager beer. I am sure glad we made a reservation for our Saturday night dinner - the place was packed.
We look forward to comming bact to Duke's Brew & Que the next time we visit London.
American BBQ with great beer!
Booking here was problematic for a Saturday night... even one week ahead! We had to take the 17:00 sitting and then they only give you 1.5 hours at the table. The beers, especially from Beavertown Brewery, are excellent. The BBQ is really good, whether pork or beef. The deep-fried pickles were too heavily breaded for my taste.
One of the best places in London to get Southern American style food including beef and pork ribs. It is easy to reach by bus or overground (Haggerston) but bookings are recommended as there isn't much else around.
Best Ribs in London
As usual Duke's had delivered great food in an brilliant ambience. We all had a good time
Excellent food, beer and service. The closest you will get to a good US home brew pub in the UK. Awesome!
Great evening out at Duke's, not many places in the area for this type of cuisine.
Although on the pricey side it's easy to swallow because its great, the ribs are very very tasty and the beer is even better.
The staff we're very friendly and attentive, and we had a sparkling dessert for the Birthday girl.
