Good Pre-Theatre Option
Very close to Covent Garden tube. The food was delicious although the portions were quite small. Service couldn't be faulted. Even with a 50% off food deal however the bill was higher than we usually pay for a light pre-theatre meal.
Dinner at Cafe des Amis
Cafe des Amis is a favourite restaurant of mine and I have been there on several occasions. All 6 of us had the special offer of two courses with half bottle of wine and were not disappointed. Although there is a limited choice on this offer, the food was very good as usual (I had the Haddock), as was the ambience. The house wine was very drinkable. The restaurant was very busy, with queues out of the door, which meant the service suffered a little. Will definitely go back.
Exactly what it said on the tin. 20% service charge does eat into the 50% discount however.
At 50% off it represented good value for money but we couldn't justify paying nearly £22 for a smallish steak, 6 chips and a few salad leaves. The same could be said of the Fish (Haddock with Fried Egg) and some crushed potatoes . We also felt that the service charge of 12 1/2% should have been added to the reduced bill, not the total before deducting the percentage. We paid almost £20 service charge which is very excessive in this day and age!
cafe amis good
Good value 50% off a la carte menu. Food and service good, buzzy restaurant but decoration nothing to shout about. Had a bottle of house white wine which was very good for just under £20 - 50% off food not drinks. A la cart menu not extensive but probably something for everybody's taste. Had a meal with my wife, we were going to opt for the 2 courses off the set menu and a glass of wine offer but my wife did not fancy anything off the set menu.
Safe option in a great location
I've been here a number of times. It's one of the few decent pre-theatre places around Covent Garden where you can get great food at a reasonable price (they take Taste card if you have one) and most importantly they bring everything quickly so that you don't spent half your time worrying if you will miss the performance! Also their coffee is particularly nice for a restaurant. I always find the staff to be pleasant and helpful, despite being busy. I've also been here for a family birthday and we were well taken care of and allowed to bring our own special cake, which we appreciated.
Lovely meal after a long day.......
We went here on a friend's recommendation, it was rather chaotic when we arrived, as it seemed a lot of people hadn't booked, the front entrance was packed but we were seen to quite quickly because we had booked. Once we got to our table, it had to set up and so we had to wait 5-10 mins before we could sit down, however after that the service was good and the food was very good and great value for money. Would go again and would hope that it was a little calmer!! Thankfully, we weren't rushed from our table, so we could enjoy our meal, take our time and relax after a hectic day shopping.
Outstanding value (with offers!)
Firstly, a word of warning for anyone booked to dine on a Saturday night - don't come early (you will have to wait) and don't come late (you will lose your table) - and don't expect a leisurely meal (for example, my main course arrived before I'd even finished my soup) but that's the price of extreme popularity I guess.
So putting aside these concerns, then everything else was great. We took advantage of a Club des Amis 50% off offer - which meant exceptional value (£80 for 2 for a 3 course meal washed down with a glass of champagne, a bottle of merlot and a cognac to finish). The food was extremely tasty - particularly the fish soup and the venison.
Overall - very enjoyable but would prefer service to be more relaxed next time
lunch for six
Food reliable, service very good, well organised. All diners, including first timers, enjoyed and will return.
The first couple of times
The first couple of times I went to this restaurant I had problems with service and mistakes on the bill. Now they are completely different, very helpful and speedy service and nice food. The fact that they have lots of offers is also very good.
Dined here twice during a 4-day London trip. Cafe des Amis is a long-established favourite of mine, especially ambient is the cocktail bar pre-or post dinner. Once again, as on every occasion, the staff were professional and polite. Service highly efficient and the quality of food excellent as ever!
Booked 50% off a la carte for 5
The restaurant is well located and we had a choice of tables upstairs. It was busy and the atmosphere was good. They were fairly slow taking our order for each course (often waited about 15 minutes and had to get their attention), however once we'd ordered the food came quickly. The 50% off was really good value and we enjoyed our meal.
We ha one of the special offer
We ha one of the special offer vouchers for lunch and find the food to be great and the value for money outstanding. Thank you.
Great date, thank you!
Went here for a date and had a lovely time. I thought that the service was particularly good as the waitresses came over whenever we wanted something, but otherwise left us to chat - I find that many, similarly priced restaurants can be a bit overbearing and this really breaks up the conversation, which can obviously ruin a date! The restaurant was quiet, but had enough other tables to not feel empty and they gave us a great table. The food was very good. The starters were fantastic and my steak perfectly cooked, although perhaps a little more seasoning would have suited me (however, that is just my tastes). The pudding menu is good, although the black pepper ice cream actually tasted exactly like, yep, black pepper which was interesting!
Cafe des Amis was a great venue for our re-union. Central London Location near the tube and bustling Covent Garden, nice food and great ambiance.
Good food & great value
We had an excellent meal here - swift service - which is fine if that's what you want - buzzy atmosphere.
Try the roast rump of lamb - Really delicious.
A great restaurant where we were cordially greeted and made to feel welcome. Food was excellent. The restaurant is so convenient for Theatreland and Covent Garden. I have eaten here both at lunchtime and evenings and never been disappointed.
a great night out
Very busy restaurant, good service, food well presented great atmosphere
As a pre-theatre venue the restaurant was ideal. The food was good and the staff very attentive. I thought perhaps the overall cost of the meal was a trifle expensive.
Good dining experience
Busy Saturday pre theatre but service and food excellent. Nothing too much trouble for staff and a lovely atmosphere in the whole restaurant. Would definitely go again.
The deal from Toptable was excellent. The restaurant is a little crowded and if anything the service was too quick: the starter came very soon after we ordered and there was little time between starter and main. Not a restaurant for a quiet leisurely meal but good for pre theatre.
We enjoy dining at Cafe Des
We enjoy dining at Cafe Des Amis prior to going to the theatre - the food is always well presented and tasty and the service is briskly efficient so we never need worry that we might be late for the show. There will be something to suit everyone and there is a set price pre/post theatre menu which offers good value for money. On this occasion we took advantage of the Toptable 50% off the food bill when dining a la carte and this made for a very reasonably priced meal.
We had a very nice meal at
We had a very nice meal at the Café Des Amis. We were put off to start with however, as we had to queue for about ten minutes before been shown to a seat - due in part to a lot of simultaneous arrivals and confusion over vouchers for deals sold on line. You do not expect to have to queue for a seat when you have booked a restaurant and this did not provide a favourable first impression!
However once we were seated the service was excellent, in a bustling restuarant. The food was very good, although one of our starters was not available which was a shame. In particular the duck leg with lentils was excellent. With 50% off food it respresented good value. We would return.
Great place for Dinner
Le Café des Amis is a great place for a dinner though it is very noisy during the evening... Very good value for the served food.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal;
Enjoyed a wonderful meal; food , service and ambience were very good and, due to 50% discount voucher! the value was outstanding. We would definitely eat there again
I dined at the Cafe' des Amis
I dined at the Cafe' des Amis twice in the last 2 weeks and on both occasions the service was excellent and the food very enjoyable. The bar downstairs also offers a great place for meeting friends before dinner.
Met friends for dinner and drinks at Cafe Des Amis. Restaurant staffs ensured our evening was a pleasure and food was served efficiently without being over powering or aggressive. The excellent food and wine was the icing on the cake.
The food was amazing. Definately will recomend this restaurant to my friends.
A very good meal, service
A very good meal, service a bit slow but it was busy. A slightly more varied wine list would be nice.
Great pre-theatre menu
We went here before going to see a show. The pre-theatre menu and had a great choice and the food was delivered very quickly. Would definitely go back again.
We were welcomed and well looked after. I have been to Cafe des Amis now many times and always have good food. It was rather busy today and consequently noisy which made conversation hard work.
We booked for the pre-theatre
We booked for the pre-theatre deal with a group of 8. The table was a little tight, but i cannot fault the service, and the food was excellent - and for the price, amazing. We never felt rushed, but they got us in and out in time for us to get to our show. I've been going to the Cafe des Amis for years and i was not disappointed
We took advantage of the 50% off a la carte offer and found the restaurant to be quite good and very reasonable with this offer. I would say the booking/ arrivals desk is a bit manic and unorganised having booked our slot at 7.30pm, we had to wait for around 30 minutes to actually be seated. It was not a problem as we were not in a rush but can imagine for other diners who are eating pre-theatre, this may pose a problem. We waited in the bar area and I was given a slice of Epoisse cheese to go with my wine and not charged. The cheese counter on the bar is to die for! Bar very busy as there were only 2 staff but very good. I'd give dinner a 6 out of ten, we both opted for the scallop rissotto and lamb rump. Both acceptable but not the best
Centrally located place to meet up
Good food but gets rather noisy on a Friday lunch time (as do many other places..)
Still I have been there before and shall go again!
Good food and a great location
The welcome was fairly efficient, and professional. Service was very efficient at the start of our meal. All the food was good. Starters were cleared and main courses brought at just the right pace. Our second bottle of wine appeared very swiftly. Main course plates were cleared with the same efficiency but then all stopped. We finished our wine. No offer of desserts or coffee. We decided we didn't want either, and went elsewhere for another cocktail!
50th birthday meal
we had a lovely meal at the restaurant after our trip to the theatre on 30th Nov. the only thing is the staff were too keen to clear the plates away after we had finished our meal!! The value of the food is excellent with the special offers available!!
staff friendly and helpful.....thank you!
Love Cafe des Amie
My partner and I found this place by accident a couple of years ago. It's tucked away and we loved the bar so went back this weekend for a pre theatre meal with 6 friends to try the restaurant. We had a lovely meal and the 50% off was a good deal. The staff were good and it's a really nice atmosphere even though it was busy.
Elegant and stylish restaurant
Have been here on many occasions both for lunch and dinner. Would go again and again. Tried other restaurants but this is the best overall.
round table and thoughtful service
Met up for an evening meal to celebrate my adult son's birthday. A round table in the centre of the room was perfect for our group of five and, unlike many central London restaurants, the tables were not set too close together. Staff were attentive but never hurried us and the food was appetising. The top table discount meant we could have a three course meal without being too extravagant. A very enjoyable evening and we shall return to this quiet but convenient location.
lovely French food
Great meal. I had a toptable 50% deal made it fantastic value
This was my second visit to the restaurant. Great place for ladies who lunch!! Have taken a good friend on both occasions and we have been impressed by the whole experience. It is really nice to choose from the main menu and there is a good range of options. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was I found the main course - duck with puy lentils - too salty. However will definitely visit the restaurant again.
Lovely food in a good atmosphere
I booked this restaurant last minute for a group of friends on the 50% off deal. The restaurant is lovely and tucked away down a little side street. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was great, just the right amount of noise. Our food was delicious, especially the creme brûlée for dessert! The service was very good, the food came out quickly but we didn't feel too rushed. Would definitely return and recommend.
It all happened when I wad browsing through the internet to look for a restaurant to celebrate my girlfriend's 20th birthday and found this. By the reviews I read through, all I hope for was please nothing go wrong. But all these worried go away once our appetizers arrived at the table . followed by the main in which we ordered the rib-eye steak and I must say, these steaks are real good and for a 3 courses set meal, it is way above all expextation when you see the price of it. Lastly, a perfect ending with a nice desert. I will recommend it to friends and especially students, who would love a place for a special occasion. This is a good choice!!
We dined at Café des Amis on Tuesday evening, the place was buzzing and packed yet our table was ready immediately, great round table for the 6 of us which is always nice to have. We were on the 50% off food deal and it was fantastic value. The service was faultless and we all had a brilliant evening. The confit duck with puy lentils is heavenly! Will be returning!
Good after theater
We went after the theater and got the 50% off all food deal. The food was really nice and the plates looked great.
Great for conversational dinners
Wonderful restaurant. The building has a smaller, quieter space which makes conversation a lot easier at busy times. Food is quite expensive, but worth it.
Nice french restaurant
Really nice frech restaurant, excellent food and friendly staff.
Very pleasant pre-theatre meal
Good food, good service, very pleasant ambience, and served us perfectly as a pre-theatre meal. The 50% off food deal made this a very satisfactory experience, which I find it hard to fault.
A lovely lunch with attentive
A lovely lunch with attentive service. Would recommend and use again.
Good on many levels, lovely ambiance, excellent service and very good food. We had the pre-theatre menu and found plenty of tasty choices - I loved the goats cheese and pear starter particularly. Our teenagers enjoyed the meal as we'll. The location is very nice just off busy Long Acre in a quiet side street. Highly recommended.
