Simple, autentic and good quality
We were seated immediately and the restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday night and so I would definitely recommend you make a reservation. However there was still enough space so that we did not feel encroached by the other table and had privacy. Ambience was good as noisy but you could still hold a normal conversation. I liked the fact you can see into the kitchen as it assures me that they have nothing to hide and are in fact proud of their hygiene levels. Wine was very reasonably priced. The swordfish was a very tasty choice. We also shared the beef which was superb and the portions were plenty. I would go again so I could try other items on the menu. Not much room for desert but espresso gelato rounded things off nicely.
What a great find! Authentic Italian food, wine, atmosphere - loved it and will definitely be back soon
Lively atnosphere and good food.
Came here with 3 friends on fri night. Lively atmosphere and busy so might not be somewhere for a couples meal at that time. All food was great and we'd has a mixture of pasta, meat and fish dishes between us. My only comment would be that the pasta and risotto dishes that come in starter and
Main sizes would be better being slightly smaller and couple quid cheaper as currently a lot more expensive than all the other starters. Would go again. Gin bar downstairs also good with good cocktails.
Lovely charming staff, fantastic food, simply a sublime evening. My 4th visit and I cant wait to return!
Came for a mid week dinner with a friend. Nice menu, well executed and overall an enjoyable meal.
Arrived a little early so popped downstairs for a pre dinner cocktail - service was excellent and barmen were knowledgable and very helpful - would recommend it strongly!
£18 for three courses of excellent food - esp the figs in honey and goat's curd and the pork - and a nice atmosphere this was excellent. Service was relaxed and yet attentive to our need to be gone by 7.
Great for a date!
Really impressed with the food and service. The gin bar in the basement is a great spot for a post dinner cocktail.
AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE
Simple well cooked Italian staples plus some interesting specials, cheerful service and good value for money are the ingredients for an enjoyable experience at Antico. Will certainly return.
Beautiful pasta dishes
I'm a big fan of italian cuisine and I was not disappointed. Roasted shoulder of pork filled tortellini in sage butter made for a stunning dish. 25% off deal made a 3 course meal for two including pre-dinner cocktails a reasonable £55.
Simply a wonderful restaurant
Table for 2 midweek as part of our trip down to London. We were plesantly suprised by the quality and affordability of Antico. We shared a bottle of wine and enjoyed a 2-course meal. Would recommend the monkfish risotto. Very busy at 9:00pm when we booked the table but the staff were on top of everything and we were served quickly and easily. Overall a lovely place and we'd visit again and recommend it.
Great food, but needs more AC
This is the second time we've eaten at Antico and the food does not disappoint. It's very good, rustic Italian and the homemade pasta is exceptional. Interesting daily specials add variety to the menu - the pancetta, radicchio and red wine risotto on offer the night we went was especially delicious.
What does disappoint is the ambient temperature inside the restaurant. Both times we've eaten there, it's been far too warm and gets quite uncomfortable as the evening goes on. Having to mop your brow between courses and willing the waitress to bring the food faster so you can get outside for some fresh air is not the way I'd like to spend a nice dinner.
Dress accordingly - the food is worth it.
Excellent, as usual
Although less celebrated than some other restaurants on Bermondsey Street, Antico is maintaining its very high standards in the kitchen and offers consistently good value for money. The meat and pasta dishes we had were terrific, and were accompanied by an excellent Italian red. Friendly and efficient service too.
Excellent modern Italian dining
We had a lovely meal here. The restaurant is modern and bright, tables not too close together and there is a good busy atmosphere without being too loud. The menu used seasonal ingredients and the dishes fresh tasting and well cooked and presented. It is reasonably priced and the service was friendly. I'll definitely return. Oh, and arrive early and visit the cellar bar for a delicious cocktail.
Good hidden Gin&Tonics
Amazing vongole with white wine.
Appreciate the nice bread and olive oil they serve with the starters.
Very nice range of gin&tonics not usual in London
Nice quality of food and friendly staff.
Lovely meal at Antico. Not a huge menu but they do it well. Good range of starters especially for veggies, the prosciutto and fig salad was delicious. Pasta was excellent - the slow roasted shoulder of park ragu tortellini was really good. The salted caramel/chocolate mousse was awesome. Good wine list too with some lovely regional wines at a range of prices. There's a gin/cocktail bar in the basement but we didn't bother as it was packed it being a Friday night. Would definitely recommend.
I had a lovely lunch at Antico on Saturday afternoon with my family. Unfortunately the street festival was on so the restaurant was probably more empty that it would have been on a regular Saturday. The food was really good I especially enjoyed the slow-roasted pork tortellioni and the Amalfi lemon tart. The service was friendly but it could have more attentive seeing as though the restaurant was quiet.
Quality food, great atmosphere
This restaurant is always busy and with good reason. The food is excellent. Nice wine list, great service. The menu is not vast but every time I have eaten there all of the food has been top quality.
When you walk in It might seem a little noisy sometimes but only because it is usually pretty much full . However you can certainly still hold a conversation without being overheard.
The staff are charming. It is a great place to dine.
The food was good and fresh.
The mix of flavors in the starters were fantastic.
We shared two starters: "Goats Curd & Black Figs with Honey Dressing and Sunflower Seeds" and an "endive, pine nuts, finely sliced radishes with truffle oil".
They were both delicious.
I had the Slow-Cooked Lamb Ragu with Juniper & Fennel Pappardelle which was lovely and my friend had the roasted chicken with beans.
The service was fast and everyone was really friendly.
I would recommend you give it a shot.
Dinner at Antico
The food was very tasty - I was particularly blown away from the homemade hazelnut gelato! It was all full of flavour and well-presented. I would say that my monkfish risotto was low on the monkfish, often a problem in restaurants that choose to use more premium ingredients.
The service was a little haphazard though. Our waitress was lovely and friendly, but some of the other staff were a bit surly and lacked warmth.
The wine list was comprehensive although the reds were on the pricey side
A note to prospective diners: they turn tables with a maximum sitting of 2hrs if you come early. We were warned about the policy as we sat down for dinner.
Great Offer at the moment
Great offer on at Antico at the moment, make the most of it, as the food is excellent and service warm & friendly. Will be rushing back to make the most from this local italian gem.
Had a wonderful meal - superb food (wonderful scallops and calves liver) delicious wine, all served up by a very friendly, smiley waiter. nothing was too much trouble. The ambience was good but was slightly spoilt later buy a rather loud table. I will however return to try more food!
Great food and dog friendly !
Love it, love it, love it! Good Italian food in a great ambiance with excellent service for you and your pooch. Will definitely return with friends and my pooch!
Italy meets Bermondsey Street
Totally loved it. Excellent friendly yet professional service, excellent food, excellent wine, excellent atmosphere. A lovely friendly and busy 'bustle' surrounds you..it feels natural and authentic. The acoustics are just right.
Delicious food & fantastic service
We met several friends (and one small baby) for lunch here. As always the staff were helpful and accommodating and gave us all the time we needed to have a proper catch up. The food is excellent - we all had a variety of fish, meat and pasta dishes and everyone agreed that they were all fantastic. Highly recommended.
Delicious as Always
You can always count on Antico to deliver delicious, good quality comfort Italian food. Service is always pleasant and the value for money is a bit draw. Stick to the starters and pasta/rice, in my experience they have always been better than the grills/mains.
Now My Favourite Restaurant
Tried this restaurant after walking past it one evening and saw every table taken.
The staff made us feel so welcome and were really knowledgeable about the menu and the food. They also kindly checked with chef that my daughter's choices did not contain nuts.
Every course (we had three) was sublime. The ingredients were of the highest quality and well put together.
We rebooked whilst we were there and cannot wait to go back.
Mid week treat
Some girlfriends and I like to try anywhere we haven't been before, but we can't wait to come back here! The food was delicious and the prosecco-aperol cocktail was the perfect accompaniment. We're already planning to come back for the gin in the bar down stairs. What a lovely hidden gem at the end of Bermondsey St
We ate at Antico on a Friday night. We had a wonderful evening. It looked like they didn't have enough staff. We had to wait awhile to place our order as there were only two waiters for the heaving restaurant. When we were served one of the waiter seemed stressed and a bit surly. The other waiter was wonderful and seemed incredibly cheerful. When we did get served both were very efficient and the food was delicious and arrived in good time. The wine list was very good too and its clear why they are so busy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal and some lovely Italian wine. The atmosphere is buzzing, lively and busy and you really need to book otherwise you may get turned away!
exceptionally good food (and wine)
delicious and often imaginative food, lively atmosphere, good service: one of the most consistently satisfiying restaurants in london.
Very good food. The slow-roast pork tortellini was the star of the show, but the monkfish and cod came in good, fresh portions and the calf's liver was tender, if a few seconds overcooked. The bar downstairs is a great place for a huge selection of gins to get you going.
Only downside is the noise. It's quite a small place with a low ceiling so you ears do tend to get a bit of a bashing. Would recommend.
Not your average Italian
I booked Antico for a birthday meal after a family trip to the Shard from a recommendation on Twitter. Having looked at the menu I was looking forward to the meal as the dishes were typically Italian ingredients but seemed to have been treated differently. From the moment we arrived we were every well looked after, the staff were friendly and polite. I ordered the fig, burata and prosciutto starter, the veal saltimbocca for main and finished with the chocolate budino. The wine list is extensive and informative and I look forward to going back there to try out their Gin bar downstairs!
Stars of the show
For antipasto, go for the scallops w/ nduja, for pasta pulled pork tortellini or lamp ragu, for main course, lamp rump w/ salsa verde, for dessert, expresso gelato.
Great lunch at Antico
Was really impressed by Antico. The food was great - each course was thoroughly enjoyed by my friends and me. And it wa good value too given the quality of the food. The service was excellent too - friendly, knowledgable, helpful and efficicient. They were also welcoming of my small dog! I will definitely be returning.
Nice food but slow service
Don't expect to finish lunch in an hour on a weekday… Food is nice though.
Good service, good food, good wine list, good value, good choice....
Excellent meal, welcoming service
The food was great, couldn't fault it. Best Italian food I've had outside of Italy!
Antico shows they actually care
Just 2 of us, a Thursday evening, on a meal deal via TopTable. Don't expect to get such good service, that is delivered genuinely and with warmth and fun. Dining room was buzzing and clearly all the waiting team were stretched but they made it look and feel as if they had all the time in the world. The food, yet again, was absolutely superb. Wine recommendation turned out to be great and was not designed to require mortgage applications to enjoy. Our table was not the best in house, but they managed to make it all OK. Really a good place to go for dinner. We will make a habit of it.
Antico Oct 2013
Nice ambiance and good service. Five of us, including a child ate early evening on a Saturday. The restaurant was moderately busy but filled up to capacity by 20.00. There was an excellent choice from the fixed price menu, with only a small number of dishes difference between that and the full menu. An extra 25% off the entire for dining before 19.00 made the evening good value too.
Some of the best modern Italian cooking we've eaten outside of Italy joined to an inspired wine list offering brilliant, unLondonlike value. The service is generally very good, and the space itself is warm and devoid of pretension--just the buzzy, happy vibe of many deeply satisfied diners.
Love this place, we have been
Love this place, we have been twice now and look forward to going back.
Another great meal at Antico
Went to Antico mid week for a meal with a friend on the 25% off your bill deal. My friend had never been before but liked Antico and thought the food was great.
Menu changes so is Autumnal at the moment and there is a decent number of options to choose from.
I will go again as it never ceases to be a good option for lovely food.
Good Italian food
Excellent focaccia bread and freshly-made pasta! Very good ice cream as well. We had the hazelnut one, but the other flavours on seemed very good as well. The service was very friendly and attentive.
2 courses were delightful
started on a high with a gorgeous bottle of Saladini Pilastri white wine, excellent antipasta of quality cold meats served on a chopping board with sumptuous green olives, a roasted tomato (oh so divine i wanted more) and a main of cod with lemon and caper dressing. Very nice indeed
Lovely food, lovely staff!
Living so close, i often visit Antico and it never disappoints. The food is lovely, the staff are lovely and the bar downstairs is a nice starting & ending point to the evening.
A great place to eat for any occassion.
We have been at Antico many times and every time is an experience!
The food is absolutely delicious and fresh! I would recommend pumpkin and chestnut ravioli, which were vere very tasty!
The focaccia with olives is something you cannot miss!!! It a secret receipe of the owner who is english but with italian origin.
It an excellent italian restaurant and every time we miss home we go there!
Tasty food, lovely service
I had booked an early table to get the Top Table discount, but our guest turned up over an hour late with two unexpected friends. The restaurant were happy to move us to a bigger table, did not hassle us while we sat and nursed a single drink for an hour, and still gave us the early bird discount! The food was terrific, every dish we ordered was interesting and well prepared and the manageress and her staff were all so nice, couldn't recommend the restaurant more highly. Plus the downstairs gin bar is even open on a Sunday night now, so you can carry on partying should you feel the need!
Great Italian food
I visited Antico on Friday night with some friends. Great value, tasty Italian food. The roast duck was the best my girlfriend has ever eaten - in her words. The Monkifish rissotto was perfectly cooked and the pulled pork pasta was beautiful. The gin bar downstairs is well worth a visit too.
Probably the best food I've had on bermondsey street - and I go there a lot!
Super food with lots of choices including a traditional roast option in a Sunday lunchtime. Charming knowledgeable service. Only problem was an additional bottle of wine on the bill that wasn't ours. The staff dealt with this promptly.
Perfect Anniversary Dinner
My partner and I went to Antico for our anniversary meal, having spent the weekend in London. I can't fault any of it. Staff were fantastic, friendly and polite, attentive and informative. The restaurant itself was nicely laid-out, tastefully decorated, and background music that was just that, in the background. (I find a lot of places turn their music up so you can't have a "quiet" meal)
The food was beautiful. Highly recommend the slow roast pork tortellini, was easily the best pasta dish I've ever had.
And to top it off, their own made tonic is fantastic. If you're a lover of a g&t, definitely try one of theirs.
