An old favourite Mon Plaisir
An old favourite Mon Plaisir in covent garden never disappoints before a theatre. Good French food, a warm atmosphere and rapid service at excellent value.
Use this restaurant several
Use this restaurant several time a year and is always enjoyable
We meet as a group of 6 - 8 twice a year, usually at Mon Plasir. It is a great venue for an unhurried lunch. We always enjoy the ambience.
However, at our last lunch we would have appreciated the round table I requested when booking, which we did not get.
Not a chain, a real taste of real France in Covent Garden
helpful friendly staff great
helpful friendly staff great choice of food and very generous portions
Have been dining at Mon Plaisir
Have been dining at Mon Plaisir for many years now, but never used it as a business venue. We arrived around 7pm to a most pleasant welcome and were given a great table out of earshot from neighbouring diners, making the business aspect of our conversation all the more easier. Thankfully the great food, wine and ambience set the tone for a memorable dinner, for which my clients were most grateful.
Alllexcellent except the accordioni
Alllexcellent except the accordionist was a bit too much of a good thing; maybe that's just because my hearing isn't 100% and I don't like loud background noise when I'm in conversation.
Excellent food beautifully
Excellent food beautifully presented. Friendly and efficient service. Avoid entrance room too disturbed A special place for special occasions
Nice Venue - Nicely cooked food
Visited this restaurant five years ago and felt it was time for a return visit - opted for lunch rather than an evening meal.
Myself and my two guests selected the soup (potato and leek) as a starter with two of us opting for plaice as a main and the other choosing the corn fed chicken - all very nice.
The wine was enjoyable as well - I recall it being a Chardonnay from a French producer.Since the French are famous for their apple tarts this was the selected desert. We personally would like the tart served warm but perhaps that was our fault for not asking! - The venue reminds me of a warren (this is not a criticism but a virtue) will hopefully find an opportunity to revisit in the future.
The food was simply superb. The quality and the seasoning ofbthe food were great. There is no need to add additional salt and pepper. It is a sign of great cooking!! It was a lovely atmosphere and everything was top notch. The place and ambience was confortable and great.
As usual, exceptionally good
As usual, exceptionally good food, served in a friendly way without the ostentation you get in some posh restaurants. I look forward tomy next visit.
Although we had been there before years ago, we are glad we thought of returning for a pre-theatre meal, and lived up to our memory and expectations. Everything was spot on - the service, the food, the atmosphere, the quality of food and value for money (we had the 3 course pre-theatre menu with a bottle of wine), and even paying attention on the night to the timing we had put on the (online) booking note, and got us out of the door in perfect time for our show.
Great for theatre meal
Very pleasant atmosphere; excellent food; good service; good value; good location
Sat next to the famous Table
Sat next to the famous Table 17. There's really something special about Mon Plaisir
Paris in London
As a businessman I come to London from Denmark about five times every year. Every single time I've been there for the last 3-4 years, I have been to this lovely French restaurant - and every time I've been completely satisfied. Watch out for the cheese - you'll never want to leave this place!
Very good food at very good price
We had dinner (we were 4 people) and we chose a set menu because of the convenient price (approx £25 for three courses). Service was very good and quick, good was really delicious (they easily accommodated my dietary requirements).
So overall very good experience: I would definitely recommend it!
Had a great pre-theatre meal here. Was really nice - didn't order off the theatre menu as we had time for the a la carte. The food was very good value - its not exactly cheap but great for the quality you get. very friendly service and they timed it just right for the theatre. we arrived 5.45 and were out at just after 7. would definitely go again.
Like being in Paris...
We were graciously accommodated despite arriving late from the theater and provided a lovely and leisurely meal, complemented by wine recommended by our waiter that was so like the velvety soft wines we found in France. A highly satisfying experience and at a more than fair price.
Lovely - our first visit but certainly not our last
completed a wonderful day
completed a wonderful day in London including a matinee at the Royal Opera House. We'll definitely come again and recommend it to others. Beautifully presented and tasting food!!
This was our third visit to the restaurant. The ambiance is very nice, restaurant is a warren of various rooms set on 2 floors, right in heart of theatreland. French food, very well cooked and presented, the restaurant has great value pre and post theatre menu. We will be back soon.
reliable food, lovely ambience
The pre-theatre meal remains good value though it is no longer accompanied by a glass of wine. Small portions, maybe, but well cooked and tasty. The jus with the minute steak is delicious and the chips excellent. If you can, sit in the back room where it is much less crowded and more pleasant.
Ideal for Pre-Theatre
We enjoyed an excellent experience for this early dinner which was served efficiently and promptly at 6pm. A short French style menu of three items per course was more than adequate to provide for all tastes. We finished in 75 minutes without feeling in any way rushed but well fed. The restaurant's location is ideal for many theatres.
Went there for lunch with 5 friends. The owner, Alain and his wife, Valerie, were sitting on the next table. They introduced themselves after we finished the meal and were most hospitable and amusing. As always, the food was superb and all 5 of my friends want to go back.
What a treat !
We are both Londoners - we are not French exiles: I mention that fact because of what follows.
To have this restaurant in London is so lucky for us! The food and wine are magnificent; and the service is professional, efficient and utterly charming. We go to Paris several times a year and spend our Summers in the South of France, so we know what we're talking about.
Still going strong
This has remained a very charming restaurant over the years.
Anyone I take is always thrilled.
Unrushed, attentive experience
We had a Saturday night booking which was originally for four booked on line. This then had to be changed at comparatively short notice to a six so I phoned to amend. After a little 'juggling around' they were able to accommodate this change and this was very much appreciated - knowing that Saturday nights can be very busy. The food was excellent with enough choice for everyone in our 'mixed taste' party. The service was impeccable and attentive, nothing being too much trouble and served with a sense of humour that was entirely appropriate and pitched to ensure that we had a great time. Would have no hesitation in returning here.
Monmouth Street Delight
Excellent food, wine and service. Good French ambience. Long traditions.
A quirky French restaurant with an excellent menu, and high quality food, really enjoyable
authentic french restaurant
Traditional French brasserie style restaurant with all the predictable dishes plus a few surprises.
The service was excellent and the food very good. They are well equipped with a pre theatre menu and will get you away on time!
Fab authentic family French bistro
Had a wonderful meal here. I had a great table and the ambience made a fabulous change from the regular Leicester Square suspects. I enjoyed really authentic French food (I even felt comfortable ordering the Steak Tartare which rarely happens for me in the UK). The wine list is wonderfully varied (although inevitably a bit French oriented) and reasonably priced. Overall I would happily recommend to anybody.
Good for meetings
A friendly quiet space that's perfect for a relaxed business meeting.
Fabulous restaurant, lovely food and ambience - would highly recommend
Great food apart from the mix up with my main course. Had to sit there whilst my guests ate their lunch. Overall good. nice wine!
Lunch with friends
5 of us. The one who ordered the special[ T- Bone steak at £28] wasn't impressed and thought it a bit 'leathery'. The rest of us were delighted and want to go again.
We really enjoyed the meal, even though it was a much reduced selection from the pre-theatre menu. And the service was just as good. We finished the meal with plenty of time to get to the theatre.
Perfect pre-Theatre Dining
This is a wonderful French restaurant that is just perfect for pre-theatre dining. All the staff are French, all the food is French, as is the ambiance... talk French and you could be in Paris!
Mon Plaisir is an incredibly reliable restaurant - good food, often simple ingredients, but expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The seasonal menu changes regularly, although the classic French staples are permanent fixtures (the French onion soup is to die for - but watch out - it's almost a meal in itself!). Atmosphere is relaxed, the wine-list is broad but reasonably priced. I came here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 12 year old daughter and they were blown away by the food and friendly service. My daughter was made to feel like a queen! It really is a lovely restaurant.
Lovely trad bistro meal
Really first class unpretentious bistro meal, ideal for pre-theatre.
Delicious pate and onion tart, steak and frites just so, and creme caramel positively unctuous.
Service was pleasant, faultless and efficient.
Will definitely call in again!
A frosty start but a great finish
The welcome at the reception from the maitre'd was perhaps not quite the friendliest I've ever experienced but after that slight aberration the rest of the evening was as close to perfect as could be. The waitress was friendly, efficient and very helpful in answering questions, the food was excellent, the wine was great and Mon Plaisir is altogether a great place. I'd happily return time and again. The prix fixe menu is great value for money and it was a close-run choice between that and the a la carte, given that that too looked very reasonably priced for what was one of the best French meals my companion and I have eaten for quite a while.
A great find
Seemingly tucked away in an obvious place (if that makes sense), this French restaurant feels fabulously authentic. Good rustic cooking that satisfies on many levels.
Very good food!
It's a very good place to dine. A lot of choices of cheese and meat:) and they are very delicious. The deco is fun as well. Definitely will go there second time. The waitress is also very friendly.
I loved the ambience it felt and smelt amazing - very French. I had the roast partridge with celeriac puree and juniper berry's it was sublime, I couldn't believe the taste and how the flavours worked so well together, incredible. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough - we had the house red wine and it was superb - very good value for money for a special occasion or for that matter any occasion.
Excellent little restaurant
Wasn't sure what to expect from the outside, but this is a lovely cosy French restaurant. I could imagine proposing to someone in there but the night I went I was with my sister! The food is excellent and cannot be faulted. I enjoyed every mouthful. The portion sizes were generous and the food came on time. The staff, althoug very helpful, maybe need to smile just a bit more. They seemed quite hassled and at one stage had an argument in front of the diners. But don't let that put you off, they were polite enough and the other aspects of this place made it a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I'll definitely be going back.
Authentically French, superb
Authentically French, superb food and great value, especially for post-theatre three course meal.
Mon Plaisir offers the best
Mon Plaisir offers the best traditional French cuisine experience in London. Dishes are uncomplicated and the accent is on quality and freshness. The onion soup is un-misseable.
The service is swift and friendly. A good selection of wine. This is a restaurant that never fails to impress. We have enjoyed the same high level of device every time we have dined there.
A great way to start the evening
A great way to start the evening before going to the theatre. Good food in a pleasant environment with attentive service. Reasonably priced with a varied wine list served in all measures to suit the individual. Recommended.
Outstanding diner !
I was looking for a nice French restaurant for my boyfriend's 30th birthday and I was absolutely not disappointed. Food was excellent (we had snails, foie gras, coq au vin & T-Bone), service was brilliant (all the waitresses were nice, helpul & friendly). Wine was also perfect. I would deeply recommend this place to people who wants to have a nice moment & eat very tasty & quality French food. For sure, we will come back (especially for the cheese tray :)
Perfect pre-theatre dining
Delicious, authentic French cuisine. Fantastic service and delightful ambience makes for the ideal pre-theatre dinner.
A taste of France
A visit to Mon Plaisir is like a minibreak in France. Lovely food and friendly welcoming service. Tres bon.
