Great post Christmas escape
Beautiful setting, the best of Manchester's architecture, made for a lovely night out for two after the buzz of Christmas. Excellent champagne cocktails seated in the bar area on arrival could compete with London's best - and interesting combinations of flavours - drinkable and not just about the barman's skills! Then through to our table, spaced far enough apart from our neighbours to allow for decent conversation. Great modern British menu, would recommend the turbot and the duck - portion sizes generous too. Cheese board is worth sampling and we watched a lot of post-supper cocktails go by - so clearly popular with others! Will definitely return in 2013.
Enjoyment at Room
The service was great, the ambience was very good, the music a little loud but the food fantastic so overall a big yes, I will return to the Room and yes I would recommend it to others
Splendid lunch pre-theatre
We really enjoyed our lunch here. It's not the cheapest - though made very affordable by the unexpected 50% reduction in our food bill due to the 'Great Winter Sale' - but definitely a cut above many restaurants. Situated as it is in the Jamie's/ Rosso/Brown's triangle - it more than stands up to its competition.
Excellent thyme and lemon bread with the olives was a delight and my rabbit conft was yummy while my friend thoroughly enjoyed her duck. We went for the sharing dessert - highlight was the blackberry shot, closely followed by the banana parfait.
Only disappointment was the loos which were scruffy and badly in need of a makeover.
As soon as I arrived I couldn't
As soon as I arrived I couldn't here my self think for the loud music. It was even worse when you arrived at my table, we was put next to the window, there wasn,t enough light in the building. The room it self was a magnificent building and the food and drink fantastic.
Great food and service
Having read the other reviews I thought I would give room a try. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised. Some reviews had mentioned the food portions were small and the food was quite expensive, we did not find this the case. Both my husband and I were full after a starter and a main. I was a little disappointed as the desserts menu looked fantastic but I just couldn't have fit any thing else in!! I also though the food was excellent value for money given what I have paid before for a meal which was much less enticing. Also for Manchester restaurant prices I thought they'd priced themselves perfectly accurate, infact I would have been happy to pay more. Definitely visiting again.
Room Restaurant Manchester
We had a lovely dining experience at Room Restaurant. We went on a Friday night, the bar was buzzing. The restaurant is attached to the bar (with a large screen between) so you get a great atmosphere from the bar whilst dining.
Great food, friendly service and they gave us some lovely small freebies as we were celebrating our anniversary.
Amazing food, outstanding service
We had the most amazing experience and the food was the best we've had in a long time. The staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable and the ambiance was great. Definate top marks and highly recommend.
Room - Manchester
Everything was amazing. We dined from the All Inclusive menu - this is such a good deal, I've used it a few times, it changes often and includes a glass of wine per person. Service and atmosphere were outstanding as usual. One of the best Saturday luncheons yet! GO! You won't be disappointed.
Room is a lush place to dine. My husband took me for my birthday on a Wednesday evening. The decor was beautiful, I thought it was perfect but my husband thought it was a bit dark). The waitress we had was attentive. Now onto the food - out of this world!!!! Bursting with flavour and the presentation was beautiful. Ill definitely be returning here!
Just a few minutes from the main shopping area, this restaurant offers a much needed rest-bite from the crowds. Food (special lunch menu at £14 incl wine) was excellent value and tasty too. Staff are very helpful and charming. Thoroughly recommended. In fact I'll be going back there in just a few days time with some business colleagues.
Great food and service
We went for a special celebration dinner and had a really fantastic meal. The service was also exemplary and I feel it is very reasonably priced for the standard of food/service received.
A room for dining - moody & lavish
The eye is instantly off seeking all the details in this moody restaurant - an opulent historic massive room... high ceilings all but vanishing with the dark moody lighting, designer furnishings & light features and the bubble of conversation all around - instantly felt pleased with our choice. Lovely attentive service - just right. Perhaps a little too dark if your eyes, like mine, are a little worn, which meant squinting at the menu. Good choices though - not too much, and a special deal for early diners which suited us as we were going on to something later. Food over seasoned if any criticism - my son's spicy duck especially was a trifle too salty for him - great presentation - really enjoyed it.
Second time in a week
Afrter a great saturday lunch just a week ago I took some different friends to Room for lunch on Friday. Same great lunch menu only this time we had the three courses with wine for £17.50. The Pea Panacotta starter was just lovely as was the Spiced soup. The Sea Bass was tremendous though the duck was on the skimpy side. Chunky chips are great here!!
Carrot cake and carrot sorbet for dessert went down very well.
well done all in Room again.
Room with a view and fine food
Do not think I have been in a Uk restaurant with better friendly staff, service with a smile ! not rushed attentive, friendly and warm a delight to behold.
only thing I could say that could be negative, is that side orders that came are far to large ! I hate to leave food of that quality !
The food really was quality , presentation was picture postcard, portions generous, Room in comparison to many 'fine dining experience' was amazing this really is a gem of a restaurant. Chef should be getting some awards
The food was exquisite, the
The food was exquisite, the staff were notably friendly and helpful and the room itself was imposing but not intimidating.
I took my parents; one is a bit deaf and found things difficult because of the ambient noise. It is noisy, in part because of the music from the bar, in part because of the fashion for a multitude of hard surfaces. I'd go again, but not with them.
Made the Night
First visit. Food and service excellent, perfect evening, very good bar staff, thank you
The atmosphere at Room is lovely and very comfortable but with a hint of luxury. The service was excellent and the food presented beautifully. Portions are small - the pork belly is amazing but should have ordered a side dish as well. Overall the dining experience is very special.
I took my fiancé for lunch as a birthday surprise as we had never been there before. We was blown away by the decor and size of the place. The service was very good. And when the food arrived we was more than happy. Would defiantly go again.
Second visit and not disappointed Service is relatively informal and gets quite busy and noisy on a Saturday but we spent nearly 3 hrs at our table and were not rushed in any way. Food was a little different but delicious duck was so moist and tasty almost like pâté (in a good way) 3 women with different tastes and we all enjoyed our meals great cocktails Thoroughly recommend
fabulous food too loud music
The food was fantastic . Well cooked food with excellent presentation and very attentive staff was spoiled by the constant very loud beat from the bar area.
Great place, great pre-meal bar with ambience for all age groups, food was 100% and my Wife and I had a super time.
This was our first time visiting room, the service was exceptional. There were long delays due to a large party however the staff acknowledged it, provided complementary drinks and an additional appetiser course. Food fantastic x
We were allowed to mix the
We were allowed to mix the lunch menu with the a la carte menu, the food was outstanding, took my wife to be and she loved every course!
The staff are always friendly and attentive. The waiter on Friday was great.
Booked late on a whim, ate alone, had very friendly service from staff and excellent food. Starter, 2 glasses of wine, steak meal and coffee came to around £40 which I thought was good value for a lovely meal in beautiful settings. Some have complained about the noise from the bar next door. You can hear it, but I piut that down to a bit if 'city buzz'.
Warm evening in Manchester
Started off with the unexpected delight of Champagne at reduced price, house Champagne was very balanced and full of flavour. Mrs M enjoyed a well presented quail starter with a delicately pickled spiced quails egg that was delicious (not usually something she would try), I started with the game terrine that was rich, tangy and delicious. We both went for the African lamb served in a tajine on tabbouleh, the lamb was cooked two ways, one being cooked pink the other mixed with spices and nuts in a mould. Overall very satisfying but room for dessert. Mrs M selected marshmallow with coconut froth and shavings decorated with a coulis looked very appetising and did not disappoint. My treacle tart was rather dry, short on treacle. Lovely evening!
Eat, Drink, Dont Listen
Went with a small party (4) on Friday evening for my daughters 18th birthday. Positives - Magnificent setting, Decent cocktails before the meal. Food both imaginative and excellent quality, supported by decent wine list! Not cheap but worth the money for taste/quality. Two huge negatives 1. When they restaurant is not full why sit a small family group and some other small groups next to a huge drunken works party? 2. The end of the meal was accompanied by the loud thumping of music from the bar area as a DJ set up for the evening to play loud dance music. Room needs to decide if is aiming to be a top restaurant or another noisy cocktail bar, by trying to be both I fear it will fail and that would be a loss to the Manchester food scene
A great night
This restaurant is for people that like tasty food, but not lots of it. The whole menu is extremely well balanced for choices between meat, fish and vegie options. The food is tasty, high quality and presented wonderfully. There just isn't a lot of it. I had the Beef Wellington and it wasn't a great portion. Be under no illusions, it isn't cheap (every side dish is £3.75 each). We had 2 courses, 2 sides, 1 diet coke, 1 glass of wine, 2 coffees and 2 cocktails (1 was non-alcoholic) and our bill was £110.00.
Overall, a great night though.
Room with a view
I was very fortunate to eat at room with a beautiful and charming companion. We both thought the ambience and decor was of a high quality, the history of the venue felt tangible. The service was excellent, our waitress was attentive and friendly. Our only concern was how unflattering the uniform shirt was. Something more simple and classy would help. In terms of the food and wine it was of a very high standard. Well matched to the price with quality ingredients, great taste and presentation. It was fun to be able to choose new variations on classic dishes. Overall a great evening was had, enjoyed with thanks.
Great service, not a summer menu
Great service by the staff at Room. Let down by having a winter inspired menu
We were a party of four which I had booked for my friend's birthday treat. Having asked for a quiet table we were treated to the best table in the house in the window. Birthday girl was pampered with treats , service and food was great and the atmosphere very relaxed for a busy Saturday evening. Well done all round.
Only complaint would be that
Only complaint would be that if you are early for your meal and have a drink in the bar, no one will come and take you to your table. You have to make yourself known to the staff,
In our case we had to repeatedly ask to be shown to our table, having already told reception we were here 20 mins before the booking.
Otherwise lovely food, presentation and near perfect service.
Tasty food, trendy night out
Lovely food with a bit of a twist. Every dish was very tasty and perfectly sized (after three courses we were definitely full). The ambiance is good, with a trendy feel to the place, almost like walking into a members only club! Service was attentive and the cocktails good. Perhaps it was a bit loud, but it does have a nightclub feel to it, so also a little dark. If you can get a table further away from the speakers and the bar then it's ok. Would definitely recommend the place though, a stylish and fun night out with decent food.
Outstanding and amazaing
The staff were all amazing couldnt do enough for us! The food and drink is to die for!! Would definately go back 100%. They made my partners 30th birthday extra special!!
The interior is amazing, a fabulous place for dinner with friends or for couples. Great atmosphere.
I had never been to The Room restaurant until Saturday evening, but I will be returning in the near future 100%. The food was out of this world.
Room on a midweek evening
The young reception lady was very welcoming. Sheused my first name & this really was nice. The dinning room and bar are very impressive - great original features! The staff are very attentive & friendly (and very good). On the night we ate there were 22 in the Room (12 in one party) so the atmosphere was a little flat but we still enjoyed it. In all a very nice place to eat - great staff - and lovely food! Downside? - the food is great but i advise a couple of sides - the portions are gastro and for a big lad not enough to fill me. They dont serve pints and on a quiet night the noise from the bar was a touch intrusive but overall it was great. The food by the way - Custard dessert (& i believe the treacle tart) is stunning!
Good food in wonderful surroundings
Nice menu choice and reasonably priced food. Good selection of wines - friendly service and impressive environment.
Simply amazing.. it was a lovely place to enjoy a special meal for our 2nd aniversary. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Room :-)
Delightful food&creative cocktails
Food was excellent! Beautifully presented and tasted delightful. We had some after dinner cocktails, which were very impressive. The only thing I would have liked was for the friendly waiters to be more attentive and ask us for extra drinks!
Who can complain for 2 courses for £12 & half price cocktails until 8pm! Had a lovely time, excellent service too!
me and my girlfriend ate in the restaurant to celebrate out anniversary and the meal was very good. we ate the ham egg and peas starter and the mushroom croquets. for mains we had the duck and the pork and dessert we had the sharing platter. food was elegantly presented and tasted well although for me a little salt would have im proved
This was our first time, it was a very lovely experience
Completely lovely. X x
Room - dinner
I've been to Room a few times now, many times to enjoy the amazing cocktails and usually bigger group bookings, but this was the best yet. Truly amazing food. Surf and turf starter was heavenly, all choices were amazing. Great night.....
We had a very nice evening meal at Room. Seated bang on time at 17:30 (when the restaurant opened) and the order was taken quickly. Our food came out on time, correctly and very tasty it was too. We did have to remind them that we had ordered a bottle of wine, which was very late arriving. When we got the bill the wine was missing, so we told them and they added it on the bill. Maybe they took the wine off due to it being late to arrive? Oh well better to be honest, don't want people to get in to trouble.
It was good, a little dark to read the menu, the waitress was very nice but did make me feel a little stupid, the food was the best food that I've ever eaten, and the ambience was really enjoyable.
Lunch Time Treat
visited Room before a Spa in Manchester, very nice food and the whole experience was made even better by genuine friendly staff who couldnt assist enough without being false. Would definately visit again next time in Manchester
40th Birthday celebration
A group of us went out for a meal at Room. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great too. I would recommend anyone to eat here and I will definitely be going back.
Room with a view.
Very impressed with the decor and the surroundings in Room as this was my first visit. We had a choice of 3 menus but settled on the very reasonably priced lunch set menu. The entire menu was full of choice with something for everyone. The only gripe i have is that we ordered drinks and it was a good 15-20 minutes later until we got them. All in all a pleasant dining experience.
We had a meal an sat30 Nov
We had a meal an sat30 Nov ,there were 5 of us we had the best table in the place, the cocktails were fantastic and the service was very very good the whole evening was brilliant would recommend it to any one
