Great food and quick service
Great food and quick service for the pre theatre menu. Excellent value and good food. The plaice was a little too bland, but the started of smoked duck as delicious and so was the desert lemon tart.
Wines were also excellent with not too many choices, but enough by the glass.
This was a return visit (catching up with a friend) for another lovely set-menu lunch in a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. The service is exemplary.
We’ve been before and keep
We’ve been before and keep coming back. Always a pleasure to dine at L’Escargot.
It is a good restaurant, the service is amazing and the ambiance very nice. The food is good, I just expected it to be a little better for the price. Overall it was a good experience I would recommend it.
Most importantly you should know the food is beautiful, not only in taste but aesthetically too. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by each member of staff respectively with a charming "Bonjour, Mademoiselle", which immediately evoked a feeling of warmth and on-point service. Delicious food, particularly the scallops, romantic ambience, dedicated and thoughtful service, combined with the location of the restaurant makes L'Escargot an almost perfect date destination. The only downfall would be the price of some wines... But choose wisely and this problem is eradicated. Top marks for this one!
My first experience of the
My first experience of the pre-theatre menu. It is very good value, and not only wonderfully prepared and presented but also wonderfully served. I dined with a senior colleague from Bordeaux, who was very impressed with the whole experience.
Good night out
Air condition made the room a bit cold as the weather outside was not really warm however when pointed out to staff it was turned off, a part from this great food and excellent wine.
We took a client out for dinner
We took a client out for dinner here and we were all very pleased with the food ans service. I had frogs legs for the first time and they were amazing. Would recommend.
Great food in the heart of soho
I took a date here on a Friday evening which wasn't busy at all, we were given a good table which was requested beforehand which was nice. Its subtly lit which gives it a romantic feel, the dining room is quite small and intimate but with comfortable space between tables, Miro style paintings hang on the walls which gives it colour and a more contemporary feel to the rest of the interior. Service was good slight minus was the main course took a while to come but they apologised and gave us a free drink as an apology which was a nice touch as we didn't complain about it, the food and wine is superb and the most memorable thing about the evening! Will definitely come here again.
Pre theatre supper
We chose L'Escargot as a venue for dinner before we went to see Once. The food and service could not be faulted and I would certainly go back again.
This restaurant is a treat for anyone at anytime. Great value for what it is also.
Wonderful.; Will dine here again.
A wonderful restaurant not far from "theatreland". Very good food, excellent service and atmosphere. An absolute pleasure to dine and will return without hesitation.
I recently celebrated my 50th Birthday by dining at L'escargot. We had a lovely evening with our 3 sons and their partners. The champagne and wine was exquisite as was all of the food. My only criticism was that we would have liked to finish our meal and remain at the restaurant with a bottle of port and some cheeses but unfortunately these were not available.
Have eaten here everytime we come to London, always a treat! Unfortunately the signature plate, escargot, were luke warm, and too small for tongs to be serviceable. Had to pick up shells to get to meat. Also, where was the essential garlic butter they should have been in? Very disappointing. That said, the confit of duck may have been the best I've ever eaten!
I have been to l'escargot at least 6 times now and always been more than satisfied. That is praise indeed as I have had the pre-theatre menu, and lunch and evening a la carte menus. My partner and I have taken 4 sets of friends and all have been pleased and vowed to return.
The setting is well decorated and the layout means that it is fine whether the place is quiet or busy. The staff are very well trained and also helpful, warm and friendly. The food is excellent, with a wide range of choice.
This is definitely my favourite restaurant and I will continue to return. It's consistency in its total service is a delight.
On my last visit I was in a wheelchair, the staff were really helpful yet unobtrusive, my thanks to them.
I'd not eaten here before and booked for lunch when an old friend made a flying visit back from abroad. Quiet room at lunchtime, impeccable service, timed to perfection as one of us had to rush off straight afterwards. We both selected the smoked haddock with duck egg mains and it just hit the spot. Will add this restaurant to my "visit again" list.
Cant fault the restuarant at all, great food ,friendly staff and perfect ambience :-)
Simply a great restaurant, good value and nice surroundings. Highly recommend it. Been twice.
Excellent. A busy Saturday
Excellent. A busy Saturday night but excellent food and service. And considering where you are and the quality of the restaurant I think it is very reasonable on price. I have been here a number of times and it has always been at a very high standard. Highly Recommended
Wonderful value quality food
I had lunch with a friend and was delighted to find that the fixed price menu now includes all of the dishes which were formerly only available as a la carte choices.
The quality of the cooking and ingredients were impeccable and delivered Michelin-level dishes for only £21 for two courses. This, as well as the excellent collection of Miro, Chagall and Leger original artwork on the walls, will bring me back again in the near future.
Building on Tradition
This was always a great restaurant and this evening was an excellent example. Fine food, well served
I don t want to say how good
I don t want to say how good it is otherwise it could become difficult to get a reservaton next time!!!
Service rapide et agreable.
Service rapide et agreable. Excellent rapport qualite/ prix
The Chef is an artist!
The dishes are amazing... excellently presented and a delight to teh palate... teh Chef is an Artist who knows every nook & corner of the palate and how it reacts to the tastes! This is my second visit and I will keep coming back!
Lovely, tranquil, experience!
Second visit to London this year, second time at this restaurant. It's a fab place to eat before going to a show as it gets the evening off to a great start! The staff are very welcoming and attentive, creating a great feeling all the time you're in the place. The pre theatre 2 or 3 course meal is great value for money and the food is top notch!
I love fine dining which is not pretentious - and this was it. We had the pre-theatre menu and it was fantastic food and excellent value for money. The wine choice was expansive, but expensive! But, as we were celebrating it was worth it. I still think £100 for a meal for two in central London of this quality is excellent
Booked pre-theatre meal...wonderful food, service, atmosphere. ..definitely recommend and return again. ..Thank you
Our experience was absolutely wonderful. The food was beautiful. The service was brilliant. We left the restaurant feeling like the most special people on earth.
This was my partners favorite restaurant in London ! We have been to L'Escargot several times before and booked again for her birthday on a Saturday evening. We have never eaten escargot, we come here for the other fish dishes, which are excellent.
Only one grumble ...... I bought a bottle of champagne and was served in white wine glasses !?! - the table next to us also had champagne (presumably a more expensive bottle) and were served in tall elegant flutes and an ice bucket.
Although the meal was very good, the soufflet & coffee, however, was suprisingly poor !
The atmosphere was lively and we had a nice time, (nothing to actually make a complaint about), but didn't leave with any 'feel good' feeling.
L'Escargot's Got The Lot
Always loved this place - a fantastic dining experience where nothing is too much trouble. For pre theatre dining they know just what to do when. You leave the restaurant well fed and watered but in time for your show. The menu is full enough to cater for most tastes and the food is extremely well cooked. The cheapest red is a delight and sets you up for a great night in the West End.
This restaurant oozes quality in its food, ambiance and service. It is a sea of tranquility in a very busy area of London serving outstanding meals and with a real eye to detail. It is not very often you receive such attentive but unobtrusive service. Well done!
Excellent ambiance, food and service, we will be back
Still a great restaurant..
Took some German friends to L'Escargot on Friday night...it was an imprompu dinner and we were surprised and pleased to get a table. This restaurant is great - understated, calm and elegant. The food is excellent, the service discreet - this is a great place to go if you actually want to have a conversation and catch up - a haven of tranquility in Soho
Our lunch, eaten over a three
Our lunch, eaten over a three hour period, was cooked to a very high standard and accompanied by a very tasty Portuguese Douro red wine. The portions were filling and all five of us had an excellent dining experience.
Family reunion meal
Food was great and a good choice on the dinner menu
The staff were very helpful and professional
The wine was good but maybe overpriced.....or ... what you have to pay in central London?
The overall experience was very impressive, we had eaten there some 25yrs ago and it was as good as we remembered it.
Perfect way to start an evening
Booked an early dinner here pre theatre and wasn't disappointed! Service was attentive but not intimidating and we chose from the daily menu. Food was fabulous and beautifully presented. Only slight critiscm would be that it's very bright if you were looking for an intimate setting. But we loved this restaurant and will recommend to friends and will definitely be back!!
We had a lovely evening, the staff were attentive and polite. The food was delicious, we would certainly recommend this restaurant for a great evening out. A*
Perfect for a special occasion.
We went to L'Escargot to celebrate our son's graduation. The whole family had a wonderful evening with excellent food and good service. I had mentioned that it was our son's graduation and they added a congratulatory message to his dessert.
There were some minor mistakes in the service (e.g sparkling water served to those who had ordered still, and vice-versa) but the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. This will not be our last visit.
Dinner with friends
Quite nostalgic restaurant, good choice of menu options to choose from. Service attentive without being intrusive, excellent value for food and wine. Very enjoyable all round experience. No complaints from our table of 4 - all tried different dishes all of which were tasty and well presented
Highly professional and most
Highly professional and most attentive without being in any way imposing. Top quality food beautifully presented on really hot plates which is always a good start. Beautiful refined French ambience with Miro and Chagal prints on the wall to top it off
Perfect birthday meal
I took my boyfriend to L'Escargot for his 30th birthday dinner. I had phoned ahead to tell them it was a special occasion and ask if they could write Happy Birthday on his dessert plate. We were seated at a corner table, and the service was wonderful - they were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They even brought out a bonus mid-course with a matching wine - free of charge! - to wish him a Happy Birthday. The food was delicious - the lamb was cooked just as I'd asked and the portions were very reasonable. As we arrived after the pre-theatre crowd left, the ambience was very nice too - not very crowded and we were able to have a lovely, intimate dinner. I would highly recommend!
Excellent food. The wine list also very impressive. Great place to have a romantic dinner.
My favourite restaurant. Great
My favourite restaurant. Great food, immaculate service and a wonderful dining environment. I particularly love the spectacular Miro pieces on the walls. Excellent for lunch in central London.
I used to visit l'Escargot in the 1970s. I now go there with my family for special occasions and meals with business partners. The menu is French and the ambiance quiet and relaxed. What a joy to be eating without constant noise and to be able linger, chat and sip without being driven out by racket. This time I had delicious smoked salmon, succulent venison and heavenly apple flan. We shall, of course, be returning.
Great Night Out
I was extremely impressed with the service and the food was outstanding. The crab & avocado starter was exquisite!
Have not been for many years. Still high quality and exactly what was expected.
Very nice atmosphere. We celebrated a special occasion and had a fantastic evening.
good food with reasonable prices
Very good food with down to earth prices.good wine list and outstanding service.
Go To Eat Here
Great all round evening......exceptional service, great food
We had a fantastic lunch at L'Escargot. The food was superb, interesting and exciting and very pleasing. The staff were friendly and professional with good advice about the menu. We have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants around the country but we thought that this was better than many of those.
We will certainly return here soon and we are also going to try other restaurants in the chain.
