I went to the Delaunay for breakfast with a friend before work. The staff were very friendly and efficient and as you walk in you see the most amazing pastries, needless to say that's what I had for breakfast! there was a good choice of food on the menu and it arrived promptly. Although it wasn't very busy at that time in the morning it still had a nice atmosphere and would definitely go back!
We had delightful evening at the Delaunay – service was excellent and food very good. Very buzzy and theatrical atmosphere. Bar a bit average but will definitely go again.
AN OASIS IN ALDWYCH
Close to man theatres, this is a great restaurant - filling a huge space that was once the monstrosity called Bank. The design, layout and décor are all fantastic - service consistently great. Food and wine not bad either!
We were going to a theatre
We were going to a theatre near the Strand on the spur of the moment and had made no dinner arrangements. We have enjoyed The Wolesley in the past and thought we would try The Delauney, if we could get a last minute reservation. I must say that the service from start to finish was wonderful - gracious, helpful, there when you needed them. The menu was a bit different from what we expected, perhaps not quite to our taste with its German overtones, but we easily found something to order. Our starters - fennel soup and beetroot salad - were both very good, but the mussels and frites were just okay, ice cream for dessert was fine. The restaurant was full by the time we left, but I doubt that we will be rushing to return.
I took my now fiancé here just after I proposed and we had an amazing time. I forewarned the restaurant and they genuinely made us feel like the guests of honour for out entire meal. All the waiters knew and were so congratulating but without being in our face. We also had a glass of champagne on the house which was a lovely touch. Food wise all the dishes we ordered were sumptuous! I had the Holstein schnitzel which was very tasty and substantial. My fiancé had the stroganoff and enjoyed it too!
Very good , lovely treat
Booked for a special occasion . Food variety was excellent for me . The dairy and gluten free wide did struggle with starters . Lovely atmosphere with some celebrities on show . Very similar to the Wolsey but warmer atmosphere . The service was slick and professional . I might not return regularly but for the occasional good dining out lovely evening I would recommend .
Breakfast at The Delaunay
This was a birthday treat for my daughter having read recommendations online. They were accurate- a varied menu, delicious food, lovely atmosphere and delightful staff. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for, if you want a cheap meal you will not get attentive service, such a lovely atmosphere and a cute goodie bag to take away any delicious pastries that you just can't find room for!
Worth a second visit
After a business lunch for six a few months ago (good but not great), my second visit to the Delaunay was a Saturday night dinner for two. The place was packed, with just the right sort of buzz about it, and the staff are charming. On my last visit I'd had the squash salad starter (really good), but this time had the crab cocktail. Nice, but for £17.50 I wanted it to have a bit more 'wow' about it, so another time would go back to the squash salad. For main course the beef stroganoff was fantastic. Big chunks of soft, rare beef and a very rich, creamy sauce - addictive! Good reports back on the calves liver too, and after cheesecake and ice cream we were extremely full. Glad to have gone again and no doubt will return.
A real sense of occasion
Excellent meal, great surroundings - good food and wine - great 'grand cafe' style dining. Really enjoyed the quality of the
Pleasant but may think again...
This restaurant looks lovely and inviting and the staff are extremely attentive and polite. However, i couldn't help but feel ever so slightly disappointed with the food. Admittedly, we both had soup for starters which was enjoyable, and i did only have a chicken schnitzel with side dishes (nothing particularly fancy!) whilst my husband had a steak, but in all honesty we paid a similar price, if not a tad more, at The Dorchester and thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. It's not a horrendous place and we probably would go back...one day, but there are other places we would probably consider before returning here.
NB: Some vegetarian options but not a great deal so that was slightly disappointing.
Fantastic as ever! Service
Fantastic as ever! Service exceptional food never disappoints and the ambience is always so accommodating!
Mum and I went to a matinee of Warhorse (which was fantastic) and rounded it off with an early dinner at The Delaunay just down the road from the Theatre. What an amazing place - beautiful setting, lovely welcome from wonderfully attentive staff, delicious food and excellent service. Well worth the price tag, especially for a special occasion.
excellent service and great
excellent service and great food and what a joy endless bottled water for just £1.50 !!
excellent ambience and service.
excellent ambience and service. decor very pleasing and food beautifully presented
REVIEW OF THE DELAUNAY
THE TABLE WAS SMALL - NOT ENOUGH SPACE. SERVICE WAS QUICK (WE WERE THERE AT LUNCHTIME). THE MENU WAS LIMITED - IF THEY HAVE WHAT YOU WANT, THEN IT IS OK. THEY WERE VERY WELCOMING, AND ALSO VERY ACCOMMODATING.
Even though surrounded by business lunches, we really enjoyed my pre-birthday treat. Food was delicious with good sized portions; beautifully restaurant with very attentive and helpful staff. Highly recommended.
Great food and atmosphere
Really nice restaurant. Food was very good, so much to choose from, all very different. Staff are very attentive
Great Atmosphere, Good Food
A "traditional" Austro-Hungarian cafe/restaurant in Central London. The food is different to the usual fayre and is good. It is unpretentious Northern European food slightly redesigned to suit a British palate. It is most certainly not Nouvelle Cuisine, and is all the better for it.
The atmosphere is excellent. A relaxing lunch away from all the suits of The City and Mayfair.
Fantastic!! Our new favourite place
I had a early evening dinner here with my husband birthday treat. When we arrived that place was quite busy and immediately had a nice buzz to it. We were promptly shown to a very nice table with plenty of space around. Within five minutes of being their my husband remarked that he was impressed and loved the place. The decor is beautiful and plenty of attentive staff. Food was perfect and the wine was very good and sensibly priced. I received a happy birthday message on my cheese and biscuits! Love The Delaunay - it's our new favourite place! Five stars all round!
I went with a group of friends for a pre-theatre lunch. Everything about the meal was excellent and the atmosphere was really lively. Our table was perfect and the service very good. A gluten-free menu was required for oneof our party and this was handled efficiently and well. The food we chose was delicious and the interval between courses was just right, allowing us time to enjoy each dish and still have plenty of time before we had to leave. The price was not cheap but worth it. We had a bottle of Prosecco which was superb and a reasonable alternative to champagne. I would thoroughly recommend the Delaunay.
Excellent food and wine. Charming staff and brilliant ambience. Well worth a visit.
Dining in grand European style
We only had a quick pre-theatre supper at the Delaunay on Friday evening, but their quality of service, food & ambience shone through again. From the moment you check in - and they ask if you have a deadline for getting to a show or anything else - the service levels are excellent. The food is not cheap but it's good. Attention to detail and the atmosphere all contribute to a memorable experience.
The restaurant feels old, opulent & well established, even though it is only a couple of years old. On Friday night it was buzzing - full of people but still feeling cosy and intimate. Food was great, not fancy at all just well cooked and well served.
Took my sister here for breakfast on her birthday. The food was really good, and, combined with decent service and nice surroundings, worth spending a bit more than normal on. The only thing about the service was sometimes it seemed I had to make an effort to get someone's attention, especially nearer the end as they were getting tables prepared for lunch service, but when I did the service was good.
Now a favourite!
Lovely meal and really good professional yet friendly service-I was presented with the wrong main course and when I pointed this out it was dealt with quickly and graciously( the choucroute and the liver&bacon were both excellent)
-a great evening the family really enjoyed.....again! Thank you
Good value, good food, great
Good value, good food, great atmosphere AND Christopher Biggins - what more could you want?
Very attentive members of staff - particularly demonstrated by the fact that, having notice my wife is heavily pregnant, they automatically brought over a cushion for her. The food was excellent - especially the fillet steak and the pierogies.
Very buzzy, full dining area. Service pretty good, professional, just not amazing. Attentive but lacked a little 'specialness'. Large menu choice to suit diners and timeclocks. Good value for such a venue. Great for a girls lunch or small group.
We booked the restaurant for a pre-theatre meal. Having eaten there for lunch on a few occasions it was nice to take my family for my birthday. The food was really good - as we only had one course due to the amount of time we had. The staff were incredibly nice to us (some restaurants can be a bit sniffy if you don't have three courses!). The portions were very generous and they produced some fabulous chocolates with a Happy Birthday iced cake which was a lovely surprise. Thoroughly recommend it - a nice mixture of food too.
Lovely old world ambiance
Lovely old world ambiance and makes a great venue for a special occasion. Impeccable service - gets the balance between attentive and always there, but never intrusive. Gorgeous interior and we were all very happy with the food.
Very nice for a treat
Very nice food, fantastic puddings and cakes so could be better for tea or brunch if you don't want to fork out £120( one glass of wine each) for two.
Opulent, turn of century Vienna decor .
Knowledgable waiting staff when we didn't know what theAustrian/Hungarian specialties were.
Tea at The Delauney
It felt like a special event, more due to the decor and ambiance rather than the food and drink. It is a beautifully designed and equipped restaurant that successfully captures its intended theme. Service is quite efficient but neither particularly friendly nor exceptional. Presentation is attractive although I thought food quality was a little disappointing. Whilst my coffee was good, my strudel was not up to the standard found almost anywhere in an Austrian ski resort. The sachertorte looked great but my companion's gugelhupf was modest in size and little more than an average sponge cake.
absoloutely brilliant lunch!...
..Great venue, wonderful decor, buzzy, busy atmosphere, attentive staff, exemplery service..and, most importantly, excellent food!.. best strogonoff I've ever had, (recommended by the head waiter, thank you)!...and my wife said the same about her kedgiree... definately going back as the restaurant would suit so many occassions!...
Great food and service
Good, reliable restaurant with excellent food and service....slightly noisy at times
Lovely atmosphere and service. Great food - still one of my faves..!
Delicious, stylish, perfect
I booked The Delaunay as a surprise for my boyfriend and it was perfect. We had a great table, the service was impeccable and the sunday lunch was delicious. Thank you to The Delaunay!
I love everything about the Delaunay. Welcoming, stylish, buzzy, delicious food, charming welcome and service, properly set tables with waiting staff in 'tenue correcte'. The food is tasty and copious, especially the Wiener schnitzel and the lamb in its baby saucepan with beans. My starter salad of butternut with pecorino, quails eggs was yummy, a perfect vinaigrette. Drinks at the bar while you wait to see and be seen, and they don't forget about you. Reliably consistent for any occasion, and that "I'm back at home here' feeling when you walk in.
Thoughtful service, impeccable Ladies room, which matters too! Think Coupole meets Balthazar, our top pick for treat night!
Looked after me and my guests in top style. Thank you. Great food. Great service. Great ambiance.
Would go back again.
Menu with Central European influence. I had a delicious fillet of bleef stroganoff followed by a Salzburg soufflé served on a pan. Main courses around 16-20 pounds. Reasonable wine list. Great for pre theatre dining for its location, or a quick business lunch. Not as noisy as its sister restaurant, the Wolseley. Good old fashioned service, with a doorman who offered to hail a cab for us.
great taste of austria
we enjoyed the interesting food choices here cakes and ice creams divine service very good afternoon tea for pre theatre goood choice the mashed potato is divine
Simple food, prepared and presented in a sophisticated manner. Great atmosphere.
I got a dinner booking at very short notice and I couldn't have been happier, I was celebrating my recent engagemnt. It's an excellent restaurant to treat yourself and you really do get what you pay for, fantastic quality and I highly recommend visiting at least once
Dinner at the Delaunay with my wife. A fabulous setting: a magnificent, large room with dark panelling and marble floor. Looks as though it has been there forever .Great, buzzy atmosphere. Excellent service from smartly dressed staff. Very good brasserie food. I had a really good prawn cocktail and excellent liver, bacon and mash. My wife said her two courses were really delicious. Two courses each, two glasses of champagne and five glasses of mid range wine came to about £165 - not cheap but reasonable value given the surroundings and the quality of the food. We shall certainly return.
Dinner at Delaunay
Had a very nice evening at Delaunay on Friday, the restaurant is full of atmosphere, with good food and excellent service.
A Lovely evening
Diiner to celebrate freind's 40th Birthday & had a lovely evening. All 3 courses were lovely and the recommended cod goujons were really well made and a good choice. The dessert of black foreest gateau was delicious and just melted in the mouth.
Similar to last visit, excellent service and a great table given to us. I would recommend.
great releaxed experience, very prompt service. enjoyable way to spend a sunday morning !
Up to the breakfast standard
Service was very good - water topped up frequently, food arriving on time. No being rushed off our table for the breakfast time. Quite an ideal environment. Eggs benedict quite pricy, but other breakfast dishes reasonable value
Well located for pre theatre
We booked for early supper before going to the Aldwych Theatre, virtually next door.
We were welcomed and shown to a table but preferred to have a drink at the bar first.
When we returned we found that our table had been taken which was rather disappointing.
After that small glitch everything went very smoothly. Service was fast to get us through quickly and the
food ( schnitzel cordon bleu) tasty and well presented. We would recommend the Delaunay for its unique ambiance ....akin
to eating in the style of "ancienne époque" among chandeliers, marble and burnished wood.
A most delightful dining experience
A most delightful dining experience from the moment we were warmly greeted at the front door through dinner and beyond. This is a must stop for us whenever we visit London!
The Wolsley without the queue
Lovely restaurant and staff. Slightly less grand than its sister restaurant but that is only due to the fabric of the building. Decor is matched by the loveliness of the food. I took my wife for her birthday. I had left booking anything to the last minute and on a friends recommendation I booked here. It was lovely. We are big fans of The Wolsley and The Delauney has a similar feel but a sufficiently different menu to stand on its own two feet. The Salzburg Souffle is fantastic. Well done.
