A GREAT FIND
The Balcon's daily menu is always filled with delights and is very good value. In addition the service is excellent and the staff fall over themselves to assist (the one glitch is usually the time taken to get the bill). The room is light and airy and adds to the experience.
Lovely food, lovely evening
The evening was great all around. We had three courses each, and all of the food was executed brilliantly. Everything tasted fresh and the cooked perfectly. Staff were very attentive and helpful, and despite the two-hour dining time you usually get in similar places, we were there for almost three and did not feel rushed at any point.
The ambience was also lovely, the restaurant began to fill out completely just after we arrived at 8, however it was never too loud or overwhelming. The music choice was great, and we felt comfortable all evening.
An exceptional service and food for a good value for money, a fantastic ambiance, friendly staff, always exceptional
Can't ask for more!
This is a lovely evening venue. Some hotel restaurants can feel a bit sterile but this has lovely decor and there were plenty of people when we went in a group of 4 on a Sat evening. The service was excellent and we were made to feel welcome and well attended to. We had the £33 3 course, champagne and coffee meal and it was really outstanding value and I had no sense at all that we were being treated differently from regular diners. In fact, we were treated better as two of the group had just got engaged and they brought us a little extra dessert plate with a candle and congratulations written in chocolate! Limited veggie options on the menu but all of the dishes our table had were very good. The menu changes regularly - may go back soon!
Early dinner at The Balcon
We were delighted by the table and the welcome. The dining room is light, spacious and beautifully presented. The service was professional and attentive throughout, and we appreciated and enjoyed all the food that was ordered from the special 'Market' menu as per Toptable's offer.. However, when thinking about the 'value score' which you will be giving, just one caveat - be alert to the high wine prices and the ever-tipped-into-your-glass 'another bottle, sir?' approach......
Nice surroundings and good food but
Excellent soup for starter. Very good main course. Dessert was rather heavy. and my friend's dessert was also disappointing.
We had the 2 courses for £18 & the choice was good as was the taste. Great atmosphere & decor. We noticed there was a lovely looking small bar there too which would be worth a visit also.
It was my first time dining at the Balcon and it absolutely lived up to my expectations and what the previous reviews reflected. Special mention to Dante for his exceptional service and good recommendation of the wine. Only suggestion could be to have more options for the deals. Would recommend!
Enjoyed a late, post-theatre dinner at the Balcon. The decor is lovely and warm. The service was excellent despite the late hour. The food was very good. The location is ideal for a pre or post theatre meal but I would be inclined to try it for a breakfast or Sunday lunch too. It is a hotel restaurant and the clientele reflects that but this does not detract much from the overall experience.
Very good meal .Excellent ambiance and service. Even better price.
Good service, superb surroundings and busy even on a tuesday night. Really great treat destination.
best restaurant in ages!!
What a wonderful place...perfect food, interesting.and attentive staff, the best cocktails ever. Some of the clientele were of the challenging type but the staff did well to placate them.
Great food, great atmosphere, great customer services
We went here for a pre theatre
We went here for a pre theatre meal, service was outstanding and food excellent and great value.
Although we were going to have the set lunch, we couldn't resist the a la carte (although others near us chose it and it looked very nice). Lovely food and wine and particularly attentive and charming service. We were seated on the balcony area which was particularly nice. We had drinks in the bar first which although a little quiet at lunch time was looking buzzy on our way out at around 4pm. We'll be definitely adding this to our (not so very long) list.
We had an absolutely fabulous dining experience at the Balcon. I would l highly recommend it to others. I am gluten intolerant and usually have to suffer second rate dining when restaurants can't seem to make anything without wheat. However, not at the Balcon; I enjoyed a first class meal in beautiful surroundings and it was the perfect start to my evening at the theatre.
The market menu (which matches the toptable deal) is good value for money, as you get some olives and bread with the meal. Sides are only an additional £3 and are not really needed as the mains are quite comprehensive. The wine list has a hefty markup, and service is slightly spotty - the older more experienced staff are good, the younger a bit clueless. After a slightly rocky start when the staff attempted to seat us in the worst table in the room (effectively in a corridor to the bar area), we prevailed politely and were seated in one of the nicer tables actually in the restaurant area. From there the service improved slightly. Food was fine, but not outstanding.
Amazing food and beautiful
Amazing food and beautiful decor - really good experience overall and they prepared a birthday treat which was a really nice touch.
Very relaxed meal
Excellent service and food. I would highlight the friendliness of the staff in particular but also the food is of very high quality and the Marche menu is good value.
One of my favourite restaurants
I have dined at this restaurant and been to the spa a few times with my friends, family and partner. Each time I have been thoroughly impressed by the outstanding service, absolutely amazing food and good value for money. The soufflé was the best I have ever tasted and the lamb chops were just divine, so soft and full of flavour. It is very hard to find genuine, friendly and good waiters in London, even at Michelin starred restaurant as it is often fake. Highly recommend this place.
Fantastic meal at The Balcon
Had a great lunch at the zeal on on the London Restaurant Festival menus. Highly recommended!
The service is outstanding and the timing just right. The food is cooked to perfection. Menu varied and there is originality without pretension. The atmosphere is calm and muted, an oasis of quiet in the middle of London. Tables well spaced for privacy. Perfect for a leisurely meal in lovely surroundings.
Excellent dining experience
The Balvon at the Sofitel it a great place to eat. The elegant clubby atmosphere is good for both business and social gatherings. The staff are attentive and engaging without being intrusive. Good value although as usual the wine list could benefit from some lower cost options.
Dinner on 25/10/13
I attended with my friend for dinner at 17.30. We chose the market menu. The main course we chose was the vegetable paella. This was however more of a risotto. Our desserts were very good, very rich. We had a glass of champagne each, tap water and coffee. The service was to a high standard. My friend complained about the vegetable paella and this was dealt with very professionally. I would dine at The Balcon again and would recommend my friends to do the same.
Birthday family dinner
We all had a nice dinner time at the balcon. Food and atmosphere were good. It is a good choice for special occasions like birthday, anniversary etc.
Our special occasion day was made more special by our visit to Le Balcon . Excellent service and food, lovely ambience.
Elegant Fine Dining
We took advantage of The Balcon being open from from late morning to late evening and booked an early dinner before going to the theatre so that we didn't have to rush. We had a wonderful meal in the beautiful art deco surroundings. From the moment we arrived, service was charming and efficient and the set menu, which my husband selected, was incredibly good value. A really lovely place with beautiful food. Highly recommended.
A smart choice for a business meal
Quiet, nice ambiance, a very adult place with good food and service. Great choice for a date or a business lunch/dinner. Classy.
I have entertained at the
I have entertained at the Balcon several times for both Business and Personal reasons and have never been disappointed.
Dinner with friends at The Balcon
What a superb evening, we chose the good value Market menu with Champagne and were not disappointed. The service was attentive and the food was good, although not memorable. We had a bottle of Viognier with our meal, which was gorgeous. Would certainly go back and enjoy the lovely ambience and the rest of the experience again.
An excellent evening, this is not our first time and it is always special, friendly staff, excellent service and food.
I took two friends for a dinner. We had fabulous night. Food are delicious, service is attentive and in the right pace.
Very nice place for friends catch up.
The food was hit and miss.
The food was hit and miss. While the rabbit leg, and smoked trout were wonderful the split pea risotto was runny and honestly quite poor.
The service was extraordinary though. Despite some no shows, the maitre'd was very polite. The waiter was wonderful as well. He over heard our conversation that it was my birthday and brought over a cake with candles and sang the "Happy Birthday" song. It was very thoughtful.
Overall it was a good experience.
Food was excellent, service
Food was excellent, service very good too. Restaurant ambience was also very good. Issue was not the physical ambience per so, but the vibe / crowd - it is a rather transient type which makes it feel "less London" and more like what it is - a restaurant attached to the Sofitel. But for the food and service, I consider it very good and aside from the vibe, an excellent choice.
what a gem!
We had dinner at The Balcon on 8th November with freinds and we took advantage of one of their special offers from the Marche menu.
What a delighful experience it was! Great food, impecable service and we were surprised at the great value too once our final bill arrived we had 3 courses, a glass of champagne each , 2 bottles of wine and side orders for around £50 per head
We will definately be returning...afternoon tea next time!
Another great meal
3rd visit to Balcon and it gets better every time. Service efficient, friendly and unobtrusive - atmosphere lovely and the food and wine excellent. Four of us had the Marche menu with house wine and all the courses were tasty, fresh and generous portions. Friends who were with us from Jersey (where they have lots of very good restaurants) were very impressed. We will definitely be back.
What a delightful find! Resplendent
What a delightful find! Resplendent in ambience/atmosphere and decor. Will be going again!
Pre theatre dining at the Balcon
We were very happy with our Pre-theatre meal at the Balcon. The staff were very good and helpful.
Three of us were dining and even though 2 of the three were a little late arriving the staff managed very well to provide our 2 course meal in good time so that we felt relaxed and still left in plenty of time for the theatre.
The food and wine were just right for a pre theatre menu.
We would definitely dine there again.
My friend and I started from the bar with an hour to spare before dinner and found the waiters and service efficient. Very professional, and made us feel comfortable. Drinks and snacks were a delight. The restaurant service was brilliant. We ordered our mains and desserts, we ordered a fish dish and a steak dish and were not disappointed at all. Great portions and the wine recommendation was superb. Our dessert was a Filo filled cream and fresh ferries, it was divine. I would definitely go back again.
A lovely treat
The place had a lovely French style romantic feel to it.
We didn't realize it was part of a hotel but we still enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious but I was most impressed with the service. Every singe staff member was so friendly, with a big smile and seemed happy to be there. You don't see that very often. Nothing seemed to difficult for them. The whole dinner was a real treat and we will go back for sure. And the set menu was a very good deal which we enjoyed.
Made to feel special
Everything about the restaurant was special, from the minute we walked in we were greeted by a friendly smiling face, our coats taken and we were led to our table. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. This was my third visit and every time it gets better. This is one of my very favourite restaurants in London
Excellent service and food
I went there for a belated birthday celebration with my friend. I called very last minute to ask them arrange a plate scribbled with "happy birthday" and they gave us free chocolates as a compliment (and they sang the song when they brought the dessert in!!)
Sincere staff with excellent service and a sophisticated place to dine.
A special treat with very nice food. Perfect for a mini romantic evening.
Visited the balcon on Monday evening and opted for the 3 course set menu including champagne for £33 wowsers what a deal and added a bottle pouilly fume. I have eating in many top restaurants and paid many hundreds of pounds but I can honestly say that the food was exquisite well prepared and most importantly flavoursome, service very attentive and the staff were very pleasant and willing to engage with warm and friendly chat. The ambiance is old classic or Art Deco. I unreservedly recommend the balcon you will not be disappointed.
It's my second time in the Balcon with my friends and their two kids. Upon arrival, a sketchbook was given to the little boy and while he was enjoying himself drawing, we were served with the three course meal. The food was good especially the specials and they let us order it as part of the 3 course meal deal which was fantastic value for money. We all had 3 courses, a glass of wine and tea/coffee and the bill was only £30 pp. my friend was also very happy with the space since they also have a new born baby who slept away on the sofa while we dined. They commented that it's rare to find a restaurant with such comfortable seating for families with young kids in central London.
Will defo recommend to others
Overall excellent apart for 1 thing
I went with a group of girlfriends for a "catch-up" dinner. Having been to The Balcon before, I had no difficulty in recommending it.
However, I was dissappointed that there was no fully vegetarian starter on the menu (the celeriac soup had cheese in it). One of my companions does not eat eggs, cheese or fish. We asked if it was possible to substitute the tomato soup on the main menu for the celeriac soup on the menu du marche, but were told this was not possible.
Despite the problem with the main course, we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening, but because it was not possible to substitute the soup, I can only rate the dining experience as "very good".
Fantastic food, a great deal
Fantastic food, a great deal of 3 courses, champagne and coffee for £33. The service was absolutely superb with the right amount of attention. We had a romantic side-by-side booth which was perfect to celebrate our anniversary.
This is a gorgeous location in really special luxurious surroundings. Very friendly, warm service. Food was tasty and delicious, although if you don't have any of the set menus, it does work out quite expensive. In particular, the drinks are really quite pricey (average £8 for a glass of wine). But it's such a beautiful place to linger, chat and relax, you don't mind too much. Don't just come for a quick meal - come for a long leisurely lunch or evening meal on a special occasion. Would definitely come again.
The decor is beautiful and food good only complaint was being rushed we were drinking champagne then ordered wine which they were going to pour. Didn't finish pudding before coffee was mentioned no chill time add on are pricey but top table deal is good value would go back
Each year we have a reunion lunch in London - a habit of 30 years +. Our meal at the Balcon, the £33 special of 3 courses and a glass of house champagne was delightful. The food was beautifully presented and enjoyable, the wine list was extensive, catering for many tastes and pockets. Service was excellent; attentive but not intrusive and no loud music to drown out out chatter. Too often nowadays I end up shouting across a table to be heard above the music being pumped out to everyone in a restaurant. Nothing so annoying here, just non-intrusive background music. All in all a lovely place to spend a few hours with friends
