What a find
Who would think such tasty, authentic and adventurous Italian food would be served in a small eatery on Archway Rd.?six of us all had a fab meal at a very fair price. The place is buzzing, intimate and warm.cannot wait to go back!
We were unable to get an evening booking, so took my husband and our children to 500 for lunch on his birthday. The food was outstanding, and we loved the fact that it wasn't too formal. My only slight criticism is that, although they do welcome children, there is no children's menu.
Early dining before 8pm movie
Dinner at 500 was lovely. The deep fried ravioli (a hard to find delicacy) was so fresh I burnt my lip! Very tasty otherwise. Brilliant panda cotta.
Why don't we come here more often?!
It's well worth booking ahead at this ever-popular Archway gem. It's not much to look at from the outside but the food is fantastic - authentic Italian at very reasonable prices. Don't miss the antipasti board to start - it's a seasonal feast! Our meal for two was only £60-ish which we thought was excellent value for the quality of food and service. Highly recommended.
Fine dining at 500 Restaurant
Fine if somewhat limited menu, quite expensive (particularly for area) although (too) large quantity of food - high quality and beautifully prepared. A little over-relaxed and informal for the type of up-market meal provided. This was second visit-and would go again!.
This little Islington trattoria
This little Islington trattoria is an absolute gem. They do everything well but if there's lamb on the menu, order it! You won't be sorry... Service is impeccable and the owners are lovely people. Who thought a place like this would be located kitty-corner from a KFC?
This is my third visit and each time the food was outstanding - quite the best Italian food in London
great food , great service
One of the best places I have been to.
What can I say of a place I been eating in and reccomended to everyone for years? Just go in and try.......and make sure you bring someone with you, you want to impress.
Fabulously authentic regional
Fabulously authentic regional Italian cuisine, based on Sardinian specialties. Always fresh, varied menu, really worth a look even if it is in Archway!!!
a superb restaurant
Eaten here many times and really does not disappoint. The food - presentation, taste and quality is wonderful. As are the staff. Will return again - hopefully very soon!!
simply excellent - grazie mille
Life is good when one has 500 just 15 minutes walk from home! My partner's 76 mother was up in London to stay the weekend, and not only did she declare the fish the most succulent she'd had in many a year but it meant that all 3 of us could delight in sharing the (as ever) excellent anti-pasta dishes - hence we can all recommend fish based ones and the burrata highly. Our mains continued the high quality, flavour packed, delightful long lazy Sunday late lunch. Top, warm service likewise making lingering a treat (& this despite the fact that the kitchen really deserved to be left alone to simply sit down & enjoy a break and meal themselves).
500 really is such a wonderful treat, so much so my partner and I will be going back next week too
always a delight! grazie mille
500 is such a wonderful restaurant and their summer menu is glorious. The octopus salad generously full of meaty, moist, thick, fresh cephalopod - no skimping on ingredients ever at 500, and the smoked tuna and melon dish is the perfect starter. Earthy and refreshing both! As for the pastas - well one smell of the light airy gnocchi with pesto and one could be in Genoa. The ravioli are light as air too though fully packed too - smoked cheese & crab sauce may sound an odd combination but it certainly works; incredibly well at that. Service is warm friendly and personal, the vibe and value are great. Be sure to book as it's a small treasure of a place.
discreet gem in shabby area
Very easy to miss this eaterie as it is in a scruffy part of Holloway Road and has frosted glass windows but it is well worth a visit - lovely Italian food - well cooked - hunky waiters and an upbeat buzz - good value for the standard of cooking - would recommend for a well above average night out.
True italian experience
The home made ravioli and pistacchio ice cream were divine.
500 in Holloway
We had dinner on Tuesday. The waiters were very charming, attentive but not obtrusive, efficient and helpful. The room was nicely lit, the tables unfussy.
The food was delicious and the helpings generous. We had a shared starter of all the cold dishes, which was huge; there must have been 15 to 20 different things, including salami, parma ham, several cheeses, melon, roasted vegetables, many different salad leaves and soon, served with a great variety of breads.
The main course rabbit, cooked in a very tasty stock, was perfectly flavoured with rosemary. The ravioli in crab sauce was very good indeed.
We shared vanilla and cinnamon ice cream, which was also very good indeed.
500 had been highly recommended
500 had been highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Although it is very noisy, all 4 diners enjoyed generous portions of hearty, flavorful and varied food, good bread, and very good Prosecco and Puglian red. Definitely worth a second visit.
Local Italian that keeps on giving
We've lived up the road from 500 in Highgate for 7 years and after discovering it about 4 years ago have consistently found it the best Italian we've tried in North London. Exceptional food, at really reasonable prices, complemented by good, unusual wines that are very well priced too (£14 for a good bottle). Best for us though is that the place is staffed by Italians who are friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and that ensures a genuine Italian foodie experience, in a modern setting. Highly recommend
This is a restaurant to return
This is a restaurant to return to frequently if at all possible. The food is consistently delicious from a menu featuring a good range of seasonal classics, beautifully presented. The service is usually excellent without being at all fussy. The ambience at dinner is relaxed, with plenty of background noise from other contented diners. All in all, a very strong recommendation.
Delicious food with very generous
Delicious food with very generous portions. I particularly recommend the large sharing platter to start which has many different hot and cold mezze dishes.
the perfect way to start the weekend - a delicious and outstanding value meal at 500. The anti-pasta dishes are both delicious and generously served - smoked tuna and melon salad an excellent combination that stimulates all the senses, and the octopus salad heavy on the eponymous ingredient. The pasta dishes themselves (including gorgeous gnocchi) are superb too. All served by friendly cheery people who are always a pleasure to see again. I'm so lucky to have 500 up the road - it's the best - tante grazie!
Great Italian restaurant in Archway
500 is consistently a good restaurant. My husband and I both had the Tagliere 500 (mixed starter) and the crab and smoked ricotta ravioli. With a bottle of wine, dessert wine, two scoops of ice cream and a caffe latte, the total came out to a fairly pricey £80 but it was for a special occasion so happy to fork it over! Nice atmosphere and good service, would go again.
Excellent food in an area
Excellent food in an area of London not known for top-notch eating. Looks dark from the outside but once inside things lighten up and the good times roll.
I loved 500. The food was of great quality and the vegetarian options were original.
Small but beautifully formed
500 provides an unexpected level of quality in the area. They've got it right - a small menu, good selection of daily specials, decent range of wines, especially by the glass, friendly service and very, very tasty food. You could keep coming back just for the roast rabbit, which is out of this world.
Great place for a lunch, you
Great place for a lunch, you get a whole choice of bread rolls on the house, and the main sizes are quite substantial. Quite quiet during our sunday lunch
Little Archway gem!
Came for a catch-up meal with a friend and was incredibly impressed by this restaurant. Fantastic value for money and very good service! It was empty when we came at 7pm but rammed by 9pm when we left. We shared the special 500 starter - a platter of all their cold starters and it was lovely, with a brilliant selection. I had the rabbit for main course which was delicious as well - good sized portions. Would definitely recommend and will return!
Great little Italian restaurant
I recommend the pasta as it has a wonderful homemade texture and taste to it. If there are at least two of you, then the mixed starter is particularly good - a mixture of octopus salad, beef carpaccio, watermelon salad, Sardinian ham, burrata and mixed grilled vegetables.
Great birthday meal
I've been to 500 on a couple of occasions, and the only time I've been disappointed is when I couldn't get a table because I'd left it too late to book! No such mistakes this time (and the online booking worked a treat). The changing seasonal menu had new treats for us to try. A great meal with very tasty, and good value Italian wines were enjoyed on my birthday. A relaxed atmosphere, unobtrusive service and great food were all perfect for a special occasion. I heartily recommend 500, but remember to book!
Not a huge choice on the menu
Not a huge choice on the menu if you don't eat fish. But all food exceptionally high quality and very tasty.
Really delicious Italian food
Really delicious Italian food with fresh tastes you rarely find out of Italy. Recommend the Tagliere 500, a selection of cold starters to share served on a long wooden platter: watermelon with toasted pine nuts & chilli, succulent bresaola & prosciutto, grilled vegetables, pecorino etc. We followed it with a fantastic shared dish of steak on the bone with horseradish, rocket & sautéed potatoes - the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth.
Very friendly, attentive service - was given a lovely piece of tiramisu with a candle because I mentioned it was our anniversary.
A really enjoyable experience & look forward to returning to try the delicious looking pastas!
What a great restaurant
We've been to 500 on a number of occasions now and have always thoroughly enjoed the experience.
This time we started with the 500 special - a board with cold meat and fish and olives (big, fat, juicy ones!) which was almost too much for 2 people. The mains, rabbit for my better half and fritto misto for me; both big and delicious!!
To drink, we started with a glass of Prosecco each and then shared a bottle of Nero d'avolo (£21) 14% - a very deep, rich drop of wine!
For pudding, we indulged in a single scoop of pistachio icecream which was seriously yummy and a glass each of pudding wine which was also jolly good.
When the bill arrived it did not include service so we included some which rounded the bill up to £100. Great value!!
Relaxed, informal, unpretencious atmosphere and delicious food make a winning combination.
Really enjoyed dinner at 500.
Really enjoyed dinner at 500. The selections of starters was very generous portion wise, and really allowed you to sample a wide selection all of which were excellent. The slow cooked pork ravioli was delicious, although my husband would have preferred a bigger portion (it was absolutely enough for me). Very busy for a Wednesday night.
What more is there to say - save that with all its prizes, accolades and trophies, 500 keeps its eye right on the ball and continues to deliver at the highest standard. They even twigged that it was one of our party's birthday (we hadn't said) and laid on a little something special, even though we're by no means 'regulars'. Just the kind of personal touch that makes what was anyway a superb dinner extra special.
We aspire to become 'regulars'. Great, interesting dishes.
Altogether very good
Excellent food, a really lovely ambiance and terrific value. What is there not to like about this place.
Once again we had a fabulous
Once again we had a fabulous meal at 500. This time we took friends who were thoroughly impressed and will no doubt return with other friends! The dishes are well thought out and I would recommend ordering the snacks (they are like ravioli parcels) with an apperitif whilst looking at the menu...they are truly delicious and incredibly light. The rabbit legs were delicious. Rabbit legs can be a little sparce on the meat and high on the bones....not at 500! The pasta parcels filled with slow cooked pork in balsamic vinegar and mascarpone cheese, butter and sage sauce is well worth having. It left me wanting more....and not because of the portion size, but because I loved it so much!
We have been to 500 on several occasions over the past couple of years. The food and welcome are always excellent. Their impressive Tagliere mixed starter board is a real highlight - wonderful selection of interesting treats. The main course lamb and rabbit were brilliant too.
Ravioli to die for
Cinquecento is a well kept secret - wonderful food without pretension. Always fresh, always tasty and the best place I know for roast rabbit. This time I went for their ravioli filled with slow cooked pork - it was divine. It's one of those restaurants you keep on wanting to go back to and are never disappointed.
-Had a 930 booking for 2,
-Had a 930 booking for 2, been here 3/4 times not sure why we don't come more excellent.
Great local restaurant
We have been to 500 many times and have always had a fab meal. There is an extremely small menu but we always manage to find something delicious to eat. Being restricted to fish and vegetarian is a challenge at 500 but the chef always manages to adapt his menu to suit us as everything is cooked fresh. Happy to recommend 500 - enjoy!!
Amazing Italian Food
Great Italian restaurant, delicious food and fantastically fresh ingredients. Highly recommended.
Great family meal experience
We went to 500 to celebrate our son's birthday (a party of six). The restaurant has easily accommodated our company and made it a truly memorable experience. We shared a selection of starters (burrata and artichokes were particularly nice) and each opted for a different pasta option as a main course. We were all very happy with our food choices, and the waiters made us feel very special. We would eagerly recommend the venue for hosting a family event.
Fantastic Italian food
We had a lovely birthday celebration at 500. Friendly service and amazing food. Try the ravioli parcels!
It's hard to find a decent restaurant with nice food in this area. 500 always has lovely food.
This Italian is a notch or two above the average, with friendly service, a fun atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices. Truffle was on the menu when we visited, and they brought it round for us to see and smell. My wife chose a dish with it and had it shaved in front of her on to the pasta. Recommended.
Delicious Local Gem
I visited 500 a few weeks ago en route to the cinema, after reading lots of glowing reviews, and it was delicious, with a nice buzzing atmosphere and great service. The truffle pasta was delicious, and this time around, the oven baked rabbit with sautee potatoes was outstanding, with very good wine to accompany. Will be back soon!
quality Italian cooking
The place had great reviews, so we tried it despite the not very stylish appearance. I'm glad we did, it was just very good food. An interesting and varied Italian menu. not just pastas and fresh black or white truffle was an option to be shaved over your dish.
Cost just £120 for three of us - 2 courses each with wine, coffee and the truffles!
A real treat.
Fiat for a King
Excellent Sardinian cuisine. Attentive but not intrusive service. Chocolate mousse and pear sorbet elicited particular praise. Good choice of local wines with prices that don't break the bank.
