The Compleat Angler
We lunched in the Bowater restaurant which is right by thr River Thames. Beautiful surroundings, good food and great service. MK
Food with a view
We took my parents to Bowaters for their 80th birthdays and we were not disappointed. The food was unusual and beautifully presented and there was a lot of choice. The view over the river is lovely so it was the perfect setting for our celebration.
Sunday Lunch Set Menu
Great choices, Roast Sirloin was Excellent, service very good - Lovely outlook would highly recommend.
We were staying at The Compleat Angler and had a dinner booking at Bowaters. The restaurant is lovely, with great food and wine and a spectacular setting, overlooking The Thames and Marlow Church. Although we were there in January with freezing temperatures outside, they have quite a few tables on the balcony outside, which would be lovely in the summer. I wouldn't recommend Bowaters for children (we went without) as it is more of a peaceful atmosphere! Really enjoyed the whole experience. Last time we went to The Compleat Angler we ate at Aubergine, which was also good. If you are a fussy eater, look at the menu online before you book, as you may find yourself somewhat limited for choice. This applies to both restaurants.
Lunch at Bowaters
Delicious food and good service.............but a little cold sitting by the window with no heating - I had asked for a nice view of the river, but we were in fact put at a corner table with a fire extinguisher next to us and it was rather chilly. Maybe I should have said something but as I was taking a colleague for lunch for her birthday, I didn't want to make a fuss!
Boaters at The Complete Angler
Really enjoyed our lunch at Bowaters. Food and service were excellent. Would return again.
Four of us met for lunch. The food was very good but a liitle bit pricey;likewise the wine and the coffees. The food and wine menus gave a good range of respective their items. Two of the coffees were tepid but the staff quickly replaced them. The staff were friendly and gave good service. The views of the river from the restaurant are spectacular. One suggestion would be for the bar to sell a draft local real ale.
Jazz at the Compleat Angler
You can't beat a Sunday lunch with jazz by the saxophonist at the Compleat Angler. Take your friends or family. Excellent food, music, ambience and service.
Such a beautiful place to sit and watch the river and world go by. Market lunch menu is adequate although I would have liked another meat choice Staff are very courteous and attentive.
An excellent Anniversary evening
I am a local man. It is many years since my last visit to "the Angler". - The evening was a total success! And certainly will not be my last visit.
How nice to have an evening out when you are treated as something special.
I have been used to going to an establishment in Sonning, where one is always treated well - however I was more impressed with the food and wine at "the Angler"
I will certainly call again.
I booked this restaurant for a business lunch and I would highly recommend it. Food is excellent and unfussy, the only thing I would say is that the staff were a little over attentive and we felt a little rushed to order our food. However once we were eating, we were not bothered again.
Would definitely return here, especially if the company was paying as it's a little on the expensive side! But worth every penny.
we stayed one night at the compleat angler on saturday 11/5/13, we booked into the bowater's restaurant for dinner. we had a fantastic meal, the menu was 'different', and included some interesting ingredients and combinations of food not found in your everyday restaurant. we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
I thought the food prices were reasonable for a quality establishment but the wine prices a little too steep in comparrison.
but overall, a great evening.
This was a fantastic night out, the staff were very attentive amd the food was delighful
Friendly service & good food
I took my father to the Bowater restaurant at the Compleat Angler, a long time favourite, on Monday 17th June. We were served by staff who have been there a long time, and who are so attentive and kind. The food we chose was excellent, well presented and just the right amount. My father had a wonderful time. After lunch it was lovely that a member of staff offered to go round and fetch the car for us as my father has difficulty walking. All in all, a lovely time was had!
Dining by he River
The situation of the hotel with a frontage to the River Thames and close view of Marlow Bridge makes an immediate impact on hotel visitors. The hotel has added to this view a considerate welcome and offers food of high quality to be enjoyed in most attractive dining rooms.A great atmosphere and enjoyment increased by excellent service from the staff.
We lunched at Bowaters restaurant,
We lunched at Bowaters restaurant, Marlow outside by the river as the weather was beautiful - it was stunning overlooking the church on the other bank of the Thames. The food was up to its usual good standard but service was a little slow on the day as they were exceptionally busy. MK
Great ambiance next to the River, great service. The food was ok too.
The perfect location
Had a special lunch on a beautiful day. Table overlooked the Thames and the overall ambience, coupled with the great service, made for a memorable occasion. Not cheap but worth it if you want to splash out a little.
Summer evening by the river
Bowaters is beside the Thames in the picturesque town of Marlowe. The location is lovely and on a balmy summer's night you can sit on the terrace and have drinks and watch river life. The Maitre d' and his staff were very attentive and he was very charming and tried to make everyone feel relaxed. The food was very good especially the sole on the bone which had an excellent flavour. There is a set price for 2 or 3 courses but coffee is extra though it does come with petit fours. The restaurant was busy and had a good atmosphere. They can open the doors on the river side wall but unfortunately they were closed the night we went which was a pity as it was a wonderful evening. There is a good sized car park. A very good evening.
Tasty and well presented
Considering this is the less expensive of the two restaurants at The Compleat Angler, we were afraid we might be "slumming it" by going here. How wrong we were. The food was delightful, and exquisitely presented. We loved the seared scallops starter and the lamb main course. Portions are fairly small so consider ordering a side dish or two. Expect to have room for a dessert, but you won't be disappointed as they are superb. I had the cherry panacotta which came with a tiny bakewell tart that was so light and crispy it had clearly been freshly baked. Praise to the somellier, who after serving wine by the glass to three of us asked if the other two would like a free taster: a treat for my mother who wouldn't want a whole glass at lunchtime.
My family and I had a wonderful meal served in a lovely restaurant on an outstanding beautiful spot on the Thames. Eating the outstanding food and wine watching riverboats cruise slowly past. Highly recommended.
80th Birthday lunch
We had a very enjoyable lunch for 8 people for my mother's 80th birthday. We had drinks on the lawn before lunch which was a bonus. Service was prompt and attentive but not overbearing and we felt very relaxed. Food was good but not outstanding but this was Sunday lunch so we had a pretty fair idea of what to expect. The conservatory area with a view over the river was perfect on this sunny but slighlty windy afternoon.
Great location, great food
The location is stunning and this is complimented by good food and friendly service. Highly recommended.
An enjoyable experience
Celebrating a recent birthday, my wife and I enjoyed our recent meal at Bowaters. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience; however, while the quality and presentation of the food was excellent, the portions were small and I thought it OTT to charge an additional £5 for the cheeseboard. A recent review made unfavourable remarks about the staff but on our visit they were excellent in every respect.
dinner at Bowaters
The food and location are excellent and a table by the window overlooking the river was perfect for our wedding anniversary.
Love being able to have a drink outside on the balcony/terrace before going in for dinner.
Portions are not large, which suits us, but may disappoint if you like a lot to eat, but the food quality was very good. We especially liked the lamb with a wonderful mix of flavours that all worked well together.
The only drawback is the service. It's not that it's bad, it's just it's not as good as it ought to be for the price. Could be more attentive and done with a bit more style.
From the moment we sat down we were relaxed and very well looked after by all staff, the food and wine were beautiful in stunning surroundings and a serene atmosphere.
Online does not make it clear
Online does not make it clear that the kitchen closes at 2.30pm - I booked for 2 at 2.30 and our taxi was late so we arrived at 2.40 pm.
Excellent food choice and service but wine by the glass is very expensive.
Special afternoon tea
Prior booking carried out to perfection.
Table with superb views of river Thames.
Service excellent with very friendly and attentive staff.
Food was excellent with beverages to suit every taste.
A lovely relaxed atmosphere and not put under any form of pressure.
Definitely a venue for that special occasion, and good value for money.
Both of us really enjoyed the whole experience.
Special Birthday Dinner
We came on a Friday for my mothers birthday dinner and were very impressed by the high standard of the food and service that we received. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the staff were very attentive and friendly. We came when there was also a jazz band that played which really added to the atmosphere. Overall a really nice evening, especially when they brought the cake out at the end. I would highly recommend this place for special occasions/dinners.
We had a major anniversary to celebrate so we decided on "The Compleat Angler" . The Staff were very attentive and polite the moment we walked into the door.
After being shown to our table our waiter, Daniel, took our order. The drinks arrived very quickly after this followed by our dinner which was superb. We were seated overlooking the river with the church floodlit on the opposite bank a perfect evening.
We had mentioned it was a special anniversary and to our great surprise a plated greeting with a roman candle was placed on our table.
My thanks to Daniel and all the team, a super evening was made really special thank you all.
We shall return!
We went to The Compleat Angler to celebrate an anniversary - and were greeted as friends and treated to attentive but not intrusive service, great food and sensibly-ish priced wines. A really lovely experience!
Great for special occasions!
Thoroughly enjoyed our first meal at The Compleat Angler; the service was excellent (but not too attentive) and views from the restaurant and lounge area across the river were amazing. Food was only average in our opinion (we ate from the Market Lunch menu - 2 courses for £21.95). Good wine list. Recommend (ideal for special occasions)
Excellent but expensive
A superb setting looking out over the river. Very good service. However - very expensive at £75 per head for a three course meal with a bottle of wine and a drink before lunch..
Always a good venue to take clients and they always come out pleased with the experience.
