New years eve at Nopi was great
I took my girlfriend here for the special new years eve tasting menu and we both absolutely loved it. The food was exceptional, although I would avoid the manouri fritters because there are much tastier items on the menu. The wine list is well crafted and there is plenty there to compliment your meal. We enjoyed hazelnut soup to start, which was thick and flavoursome but not heavy. Even the olive oil served to accompany bread was exceptionally fresh. We then shared six dishes from the menu, which were very well balanced, well seasoned, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
Excellent food, service & ambience.
Had a really good lunch there with friends. Not cheap but the quality of the food is excellent as with Ottolenghi in Islington.
Would love to go again.
Superb food, outstanding service, an overall terrific meal and experience. I can't wait to go back. Long live Nopi!
Perfect combination of modern
Perfect combination of modern technics and fresh ingredients; just the kind of place I would love to go, and go, and go again.
The Ottolenghi genius brought closer to my central London flat ;) Fourth visit to Nopi (three dinners, one breakfast) and enjoyed every bit of it! Compared to the 'original' Ottolenghi in Angel, I miss the profusion of fabulous desserts (I know...) and the beautiful displays but this is still outstanding food and outstanding culinary flair. If I were the dreaded inspector, the chef would have received a Michelin star long ago...
We never give five stars, but our diner in Nopi was. Outstanding Ottolenghians food, service and ambiance. We were for five days in London and it was by far the best restaur, ant we visit.
We had a spectacular meal and time and would happily go back again when we're next in town.
Excellent for special occasions
I took my parents for Friday lunch and booked in advance. It was a birthday treat with starters, main and alcohol free cocktails for £170.00. For us it was expensive but worth it. All dishes were excellent and packed with flavour. Something for everyone and Yotam Ottolenghi, the chef-owner, emphasises vegetables, so it feels healthy, with a middle-eastern slant. We love his cooking programmes. A trendy, minimalist design with relaxed atmosphere. We had 2 nibbles, 5 starter mezes (courgette fritters were great). Our mains were lemon sole, duck and red snapper with kale, polenta and broccoli sides. We loved the helva ice-cream. Service was good, we enjoyed the food so much and portions were not too small, we were very satisfied!
The restaurant is very noisy
The restaurant is very noisy and it is hard to converse with companions when dining. The tables are too close together making it hard for people to move between them. Dining here is not a relaxing experience.
Breakfast at Nopi
Great choice of breakfast, will be back to try lunch and dinner! Only disappointment was where we were sat, despite reserving a table we were at the very front of the restaurant, despite there being empty tables in the main section. I would recommend specifying to be in the main area if booking as lacked atmosphere where we were sat.
A little piece of heaven in Londion
"Delightful restaurant, well designed with a smart layout. The staff were outstanding at all levels. We shared starters of
scallops and pork belly. The pork belly was amazing melt in the mouth and stole the show for us. Sourdough bread served was the best I have eaten. My main course of grilled plaice with burnt butter was lacking in flavour which was a pity. The turbot was an outstanding dish, and also my sons vegetarian lentil main course which was served in a copper
saucepan was delicious. My side dish of spiced polenta chips deserve great praise - fantastic.! Desserts well words just
fail me, a must , so please leave room for dessert. All this great food was washed down with a great Italian white wine.
Well worth a visit.
superb food - not cheap @ £per Kilo
pricey with small potions, but superb food beautifully cooked and well presented. staff friendly, service good.
I visited Nopi for my birthday on a Monday lunchtime with my parents. Incredible food, friendly and attentive staff, great atmosphere. All in all a deliciously wonderful meal which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will be sure to recommend it and visit again.
Great Veg & Non-Veg Choices
Perfect choice for dinner with my vegetarian friend. We sampled a couple of tasty cocktails and ended up opting for a number of inventive vegetarian sharing plates. The beetroot, feta and walnut plate in particular was so delicious I will be forced to go back! Other diner's meat dishes looked very appealing but we didn't try them on our visit.
Downstairs are big sharing tables where you can watch the chefs work so could be ideal for big parties. I was also impressed by the mirrored toilets, which I expect I would struggle to find my way out of after a little too much vino.
Excellent food and excellent service, was also given a birthday dessert as a surprise!!! Loved it!!!
Absolutely delicious food
Absolutely delicious food but poor service.
Arrived for a 9.30 booking and were not seated until 9.50. Although apologetic subsequent service was brusque.
We were subsequently told that the kitchen would be closing shortly and that if we wanted any more hot orders we had to make them immediately. Although this didn't actually effect us I find it incredible that a Central London restaurant that is taking table bookings until at least 9.30 can't keep the kitchen open until diners finish.
By the time we got to dessert the option we wanted was sold out!
All very frustrating considering the food was so good.
Certainly a top Restaurant
Certainly a top Restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere.
I love this restaurant - it is relaxed but still feels like a treat. We had five little plates to share which were really tasty with delicate and usual flavour combinations - we especially liked the aubergine and feta dish. We wasn't a massive fan of the sides though - the polenta chips were a bit stodgy. We went for desserts but were too full to finish them - the frozen marshmallow pudding was amazing. A great drinks selections too - are tempted to return just to try the cocktails!
Rivet's review 1
This was simply a very fine restaurant in which to spend Saturday lunchtime. Bustling; professional; welcoming; and extremely flavourful food as you'd expect from Ottolenghi. It's not inexpensive, but if you know that beforehand and you're not put off by that, then it should be a very enjoyable experience.
Nopi hits the spot
Loved everything about Nopi. Excellent food choices, great flavours, attentive staff, great buzz1 Design is a big feature too, right down to the interior of the ladies loo. You will have to visit to see what I mean ! Will certainly make future visits.
Great food, okay value
Really wonderful food and ambiance at NOPI, and it was a MUST while we visited London. That being said, the portion sizes were quite small (we had to go eat something afterward). May just be our American sensibilities kicking in, but for the price, I feel we should have gotten a bit of a larger portion.
Great flavours and excellant service. Will be back!
It was a very outstanding
It was a very outstanding experience - the food and service. We have been served as in a friends house.
I love the tasty vegetarian options even though I am a big meat eater!
A Birthday Lunch
Delicious food, lovely wine, a free extra dish, fantastic and well informed waitress from Aukland. And looked after the phone we left!
Lovely treat on a Friday
The restaurant was beautiful , tables set far apart enough so you couldn't overhear other diners's conversations. The food was delicious - and met all expectations . I met my friend who was visiting from NY & she's also an avid fan. We had a lovely time.
Overall good food but lacked a certain zing! Taste buds woken up but not wowed. Tried 6-7 share plates. Best flavour was cheesecake. Main courses a little full. Drinks menu great. Service excellent. Ambience lively but still able to hold a conversation.
NOPI - amazing!!
Absolutely incredible food. I don't live in London but have been back to NOPI twice in one month whilst traveling to London on two separate occasions as I was just so impressed by the food, service, ambience, etc.
As a vegetarian it's important to me to be able to find restaurants that offer high quality and healthy foods that don't contain any fish or meat. NOPI's menu is simple but provides a wide variety of options for diners. I can't wait to go back again soon!!
I recommend this restaurant to anyone. For special occasions or just a comfortable dining experience. Book in advance, you wouldn't want to miss out!
something to write home about
We tried several times, when in London, to get a booking at Nopi, well this time we suceeded. It was an outstanding experience in every respect. Being an ayurveda-chef I follow Yotam Ottolenghi's kitchen for quite a while. So good we had a chance to taste these surprising (aromas, presentations) of dishes. The idea of food sharing is brilliant, we know this in Switzerland only in Meze restaurants. We sure will recommend Nopis to our friends and business partners in London and abroad.
Food alchemy at it's best
Terrific food - simple with fresh ingredients and outstanding dressings/sauces. A mixture of starters is a good way of tasting several options on the menu and we weren't disappointed with this approach. Every bit was eaten with gusto and we were in awe at the blend of flavours which really worked. Wine by the glass was a bit disappointing but didn't detract from a wonderful food experience. Service was attentive without being over the top. Highly recommended for anyone yearning taste with a difference
Delicious and perfect for Coeliacs
We had a fabulous and delicious dinner. I would recommend this to everyone who wants something a little different from the more traditional menus on offer across London.
Incredible flavours and most importantly, lots of options for a Coeliac diner.
Big thumbs up.
Perfect pre-theatre dinner
All the food was delicious, intricate and unique. The service was very fast, helpful and friendly. The deserts didn't quite match up to the extremely high standards of the rest of the meal.
Great flavour interactions
The main reason I go out for lunch or dinner is to get something I wouldn't think (or be able) to create at home. NOPI is an excellent venue for an experience like this. We shared five dishes from the 'starters/dishes to share' section, and most were that unique combination of interesting and tasty. I particularly liked the roasted aubergine with feta, pickled cucumbers and pumpkin seeds (added a lovely crunch). The best dishes were definitely from the fish section: the smoked eel and scallops were delicious; cooked to perfection (i.e. not too much) The cocktails are excellent - I highly recommend the coriander and ginger martini.
sleek, fashionable, delicious
NOPI's style is light and golden. The waitor made a good wine recommendation. Perfect for sharing several small dishes to experience different tastes and flavours. It has a view onto the kitchen downstairs which is worth checking out.
Great food, not very warm waiters
We are a "foodie" Belgian/Spanish couple and eating out is the main focus of our trips!, plus we had been looking forward to trying Ottolenghi's food for a while. The food here was so nice, we mainly ordered dishes made with vegetables (courgette fritters, burrata, etc.), and we were surprised of how sophisticated and tasty they were!, although people tend to think vegetables are boring... (we don't!).
The only problem we found was the waiters: they were cold and not very interactive. (However, the ladies who welcome you and sit you down at your table were lovely and very smiley).
The ambience, the decoration, the toilets!, were great.
Even the price, we thought that being London and being Ottolenghi, was very reasonable. Thanks.
More sub £30 wine options please!
The food at Nopi is generally very good. We shared a couple of the small plates to start - aubergine and chicken - which were amazing, really tasty, but unfortunately the mains were a bit of a let down. We had the chickpea patties which were good and the snapper which was not so good - dry, overcooked and lacking the flavour and tastiness of the starters. On this basis I would recommend sticking to the small plates.
The real let down however was the wine list. We don't usually mind splashing out on wine, but with just one red and one white option under £30 and everything else on the list a long way north of that, our bill easily topped £150 for 2 people, despite quite restrained ordering, so I think I'd only go back again for brunch/lunch.
Great food, service and layout.
Great food, service and layout.
Outside of Soho restaurant not special; had we not heard of Ottolenghi we would have missed it.
The food was great, we were surprised by the tastes that entered our mouth. Especially the cheesecake with beet root en blue cheese was outstanding...
The service was perfect.
One remark: in the 2 hours we had available in NOPI, the food was served witihin the first hour. So our 7 dishes to share were served very quickly after each other. So we were a bit hurried with eating and that was a pity. This made us 'stuffed'very quickly...
Amazing as always
Nopi is always reliable for its good food, even as it continues to surprise with inventive dishes. The truffle polenta fries are a must-try, the valdeón cheesecake was incredible and I had to ask our server if they sold the Halva ice cream by the tub. Service was busy but attentive and provided great banter. The ambience was perfect - classy but friendly. It was a fantastic dinner and I can't wait to return again.
The menu is difficult to understand and needs explanations from the staff, which is OK, but we were advised that 2 or 3 sharing plates would be enough per person but the portions are incredibly small (though delicious) and I am a small eater, so how someone with a large appetite would cope, I don't know!
And afterwards, I ordered a glass of Calvados without looking at the price, and it was £12! Outrageous in a place where you are rushed to leave the table as you only get a two hour slot to eat. Given that we took a long time to order as the menu needs interpreting, we didn't actually have much time to eat and relax.
If you are looking for some
If you are looking for some different breakfast options but somewhere the atmosphere and quality of food is high this is the place.
Buzzy but not too clattery.
Great service - maybe a bit fast for some people, but suited us.
Big Otto Lenghi fan so was
Big Otto Lenghi fan so was looking forward to trying Nopi - it did not dissapoint - the food looked and tasted delicious, wonderful flavours well presented and very good service. Will definitely be recommending NOPI and will be booking again.
The venue was beautiful, it smelled of the most incredible herbs and spices upon entering the door, and the service was fantastic. The food is stunning and I can't wait to visit again.
Went to Nopi with two real foodies and they were very impressed. Fantasic food, flavours and presentation is top notch. Also to staff is super friendly and professional (something I wouldn't always expect from a hyped, sort of expesive place as they sometimes tend to get full of themselves). Great evening!
Unique tastes, sparkling staff
The hostess, Basha, is a gem: so helpful, charming, and warm. We had the cheesecake, a souffle made of Valdeon cheese, the chicken (exquisite), red snapper, polenta fries and brocolli raabe with a garlicky dressing. The desserts: halva ice cream, sesame, and tahini was excellent as was the blueberry mess. The room is full of light; downstairs would be good too, sharing with others.
Delicious but disappointed veggies
I went here with family, 3 of whom are vegetarian. Having seen Mr Ottolenghi's recipes, my mother was looking forward to some delicious vegetarian options, however there was only one veggie main course option.
Most disappointing, particularly as I had written to warn them of our situation.
Overall though, a great restaurant, yummy food and wonderful service.
Good as always
If you like the strong flavours and interesting combinations that Ottolenghi produces then NOPI is fabulous . Start with a Coriander & Ginger Vodka Martini to sharpen your palate the don't bother with the main courses just order as many of the sharing plates as you can manage. You won't be disappointed!
We enjoyed very much the Sunday lunch in Nopi, every aspect of it. Great place!
His books have become all the rage in NYC. Unfortunate I cannot seem to get them right. So I had to go to the restaurant and see for myself. Loved the duck--just perfect.
Service was great. Knowledgable servers.
