Had a really lovely evening, great food, good service and lovely atmosphere, will definitely book to go again
Joy oh joy
Delightfull choice on menu. Service and food exceptional. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two or any other occassion. I will have no reservations about coming back time and time again
Good honest food
The food here is always good and honest. local meats, game and fish make this a delight. Relaxed dining setting with an old country feel makes this a joy to dine.
Another great evening, this
Another great evening, this restaurant continues to hit the high notes on all fronts. The Ox cheek main course was sublime.
Lovely food and atmosphere
Had a lovely Mothers day lunch here, the food was all excellent quality, freshly prepared and tasty. Atmosphere is bistro-like with a friendly ambience and chatty background noise, the staff were all very pleasant and provided a fantastic service.
Would highly recommend for all occasions although as it is a small restaurant it may not suit a larger party of 8+.
We had a very enjoyable and reasonably priced Sunday brunch. The girls commented that their scrambled eggs were "really, really good" and said they wanted to come back for those alone. The buttermilk pancakes were not great (almost seemed a bit undercooked - a bit plasticy) so we will avoid those next time.
Sound, honest, home cooking.
Sound, honest, home cooking. Nothing fancy but very tasty. Lovely fresh, seasonal ingredients. Have been before and will definately come again.
Samphire on fire
Went with 3 friends on a Saturday night. Restaurant is lovely. The food was great especially the brown shrimp and the crackling on the belly pork was like nothing I've tasted before. Food was very reasonably priced, especially for people used to eating out in London. All in all a great dining experience, thoroughly recommend it.
the food and service were wonderful - thanks
the seating was too squashed for 7 on one table - we were crushed
When my wife and I arrived we were a little disappointed with our table. However, we asked to be moved and this quickly done with no trouble.
The restaurant has a lovely warm and romantic atmosphere and the service was excellent. We thought it very quirky to see our name written in chalk on the table top itself rather than just having a bland "reserved" sign.
The food was AMAZING! I had fish which was beautifully cooked but my wife had the Pork belly which she said was the best she had ever had. So much so that she went to the kitchen to tell and thank the chef.
The previous evening we had eaten at a Michelin Star restaurant in Sussex but we both thought that the food at Samphire was equally as good. LOVED IT!
Had lunch with my elderly
Had lunch with my elderly mum, who is not keen on `fancy` food. Informal atmosphere, good, polite service, and great food.
Definitely going again when I can.
We had an excellent experience
We had an excellent experience following a recommendation from a family member who is very fussy about their food. The meals, service and ambiance were excellent and the time flew by. The staff were really friendly and helpful and did not hassle you unlike some places. we wioll be back and the treacle tart is stunning. GJC
In a world full of dining concepts, foams, stars and general pr guff it is so reassuring to find a friendly, service oriented, quality focused restaurant such as Samphire in Whitstable. The front of house team could not have been sweeter or more able and the kitchen has the confidence to let the ingredients shine through with the minimum of fuss. Really - it takes confidence and ability to rely on product quality and not over elaborate with the current trends that elevate the chef rather then the food. I have not experienced such a complete combination of service and kitchen ability since eating at Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley! Recommended (!)
We were very pleased to have booked Samphire for the Friday evening as they were having to turn people away. The restaurant is intimate without feeling crowded and the food was really good, with interesting choices. The wild garlic soup was incredible! Both mains ( pork belly and ox cheek) were executed with style and perfectly seasoned. Nice place, welcoming staff and confident cooking. Highly recommend a visit.
Whitstables best kept secret
Samphire is a real treat in the middle of town. We go once a month and the whole experience is consistent every time. The staff always give a warm welcome and there is always a comfortable atmosphere. The menu caters for many tastes, and there's always something different for you try. It's great food, using good ingredients, prepared and served by people who care.
Excellent food, very tasty.
Excellent food, very tasty. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. I really enjoyed my evening at Samphire.
Lovely restaurant and we had a great Saturday night meal. Food was wonderful - incredible Ox cheeks for the main course and the desert was fantastic. Great atmosphere and the waiting staff were great. We'll certainly be back for more.
(came in for brunch afew weeks ago as well and that was delicious!)
This is the second occasion we visited Samphire restaurant, my sister had a special birthday and we took her to Samphire.
The staff are very welcoming and friendlly and the food is excellent, we visit Whitstable a couple of times as year and will certainly be didning there again.
Great for people watching
Only ever had brunch here before (which is the best - kidneys on toast yummy) so this was the first time we ate from the main menu. One of the best ham terrines we've had. Good size, not too salty. Fish pie for main, lovely mash potatoe and good large lumps of fish (only gripe it was a tad too salty for me, but my husband loved it - even seasoned it himself). Grab a window table if you can, great to watch the world go by. Will always aim to eat breakfast here whenever we come to whitstable.
We really enjoyed our visit to Samphire and were impressed by the small but well chosen menu - packed with local seasnal dishes. Good service and a welcoming ambiance ensured a memorable visit.
Gem by the Sea
We love Samphire & are quickly becoming regulars (despite living 50 miles away). Small, unprententious, friendly staff, very decent food for prices that whilst not cheap are not unreasonable.
Lovely girls night out at Samphire
Went to Samphire with 2 girlfriends on Friday night and we had a lovely evening. Great food and atmosphere and friendly service in a cosy environment. Highly recommended.
Dining in Whitstable
My wife and I decided to go to Whitstable for the weekend to celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary. We started things off with a delicious meal in Samphire on the Friday night. As we didn't know when we were going to arrive in Whitstable, we didn't book a table until the afternoon. Fortunately, they managed to fit us in. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back.
It Kept Getting Better.
Loved the antipasto, superb fish main courses and deserts to die for. Very good and inexpensive wine list too.
Immaculate, quirky surroundings. Incredibly friendly, knowledgable service and reflect food. A combination that ensures that one visit is simply not enough!
Breakfast through to dinner - the standards remain consistently high. Intersresting, local, seasonal menu served with panache!
Mid price, ecclectic wine list ( Malbec being well worth a try) good range of Fentimans non-alcoholic drinks.
Home made puddings - lemon posset served with home made shortbread deserves a special mention.
Small. Perfectly formed and utterly addictive-sums samphire up perfectly!
Nice Evening Meal
We went to Samphire on a Monday night for my partners 30th. Food was lovely and service was quick and attentive (seems as she was working front of house by herself too). We didn't manage a dessert as the starter & main were so yummy and filling.
Lovely little place
Lovely food, great service and a great ambiance - definitely recommended!
we had a lovely birthday brunch at Samphire in Whitstable at the weekend, excellent vegetarian options and good choice for meat eaters too.... the Eggs Forrester won the day, with orange juice to die for. Brilliant. the next evening we had more visitors so, back to whitstable we go, for dinner. Another excellent meal with one young lady doing all the front of house, to a full house - and the smile never slipped once. Compliments to the chef and the buyer,if it's not the same guy. Well done.
The local lamb was amazing and my sister, who admits she is difficult to please, loved the duck... so... we will be back!!!
We ate samphire again at Samphire
We ate samphire again at Samphire as it was in season. It grows near the seashore and tastes somewhere between spinach and salty asparagus - delicious. We really enjoyed it very much. We like the ambience and the very professional service. Loos are not up to much, however. If they could address that, then it would be five star.
We visited Samphire recently - I'd eaten lunch there before on my own.
The food was excellent. We ate Serrano ham, mussels, lamb and hake and a great bottle of wine. The service was really friendly - helpful but not at all intrusive and we really enjoyed the whole experience. Definitely go back to Samphire when we are next in Whitstable and thoroughly recommend for evening meal and lunch.
We use Samphire all the time!
We use Samphire all the time! Within the family we need good gluten-free and vegetarian options, and also easy access (and cushions) for a more senior member in frail health! They know us there and are very kind! Would recommend 100%!
birthday lunch for a friend
The food was excellent and portions generous. There was a wait between courses, but the food was clearly freshly prepared/cooked to order. I had mentioned that it was a birthday celebration for one of the diners when booking and extra efforts had been made to mark the occasion. We would definitely return!
Lovely cosy restaurant, attentive
Lovely cosy restaurant, attentive staff and an imaginative menu. The food was lovely and well presented. Would recommend.
The food was, as it had been previously excellent, ambience just right and the service fantastic. Special note for Esme our waitress who was a joy.
Keep on doing Samphire what you do best - lovely food - I had courgettes with chilli and Parmesan - delicious. So much so I bolted it down!! My girlfriend had the mackerel and that disappeared quickly too!! My main was pork - juicy and tasty with borlotti beans, greens and kale. I'd have asked for more veg and less beans if I'd known the ratio, whilst my girlfriend had the lamb (shoulder cut) that she found to be over fatty. Still, we made short work of them both!!
Neither of us could manage a pudding so we had coffee, paid up £60 inc a G&T and 2 wines, then went to dip our toes in the sea!!
Very good food
Loved trying oysters and samphire here. and it was the best duck I've ever tasted
Best food in town!
This must about our 25th visit to Samphire and the food, service and welcome was fantastic as always. Our favourite restaurant!
We eat here quite regularly and it never fails to disappoint whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner or Sunday lunch.
Would highly recommend except to the kid's buggy set as it's quite cosy and narrow inside. They cater very well for kids however leave the buggy at home!
pre holiday get together
My sister drove 280 miles to get here for our dinner booking at Samphire, and she was not disappointed, even though she was stuck in traffic on the M11 for SIX HOURS... so.. well worth the wait and then hoidays in Portugal the following day. what a good start.
Service and choice of food excellent, as always.
Highly recommended. We had a lovely meal here for our anniversary. Service great. Food wonderful.
What a fantastic restaurant, we will definately come back. The Pork Belly was the best I ever tasted. Fantastic. Service was a bit slow - it took 1 1/2 hours before we had our mains, but as the restaurant was so busy, the ambience was lovely so waiting wasn';t a problem for us.
Slightly worrying that the next people to have our table was in at 9pm as they chalk it on your table - a good querk, but would make some people rush, as they were slow getting the food out it wasn't an issue and they must have seated the 9pm couple elsewhere as nothing happened and we ended up leaving at 10pm.
But all in all a fantastic meal - great food, good service - a little bit costly, but for decent food you don't mind paying the money
The quality of the dishes and the carefully considered combinations of flavours is excellent. It is rare to find a place where the the size of the dishes and the imaginative use of ingredients actually promotes health rather than being packed with carbohydrates. As a vegetarian, I felt extremely comfortable choosing from a comprehensive menu. It is a place we intend to visit again.
Another Whitstable winner
First time we have eaten dinner here. An amuese bouche of maple syrup & rum cured salmon cold smoked in-house was succulent and subtly flavoured - excellent. Starters of rabbit, tagliatelle & wild mushrooms & tarragon and baked aubergine with pesto and red peppers, both v.good. Mains were hake, lentils & salsa verde and gurnard fillet, fennel, orange & saffron. Again, both were excellent. Desserts were chocolate marquise with almonds & tonka bean ice cream and plum crumble with cinnamon ice cream. The excellent standards set by the first two courses were maintained. With two bottles of wine, a highly plausible Provence rosé and a sophisticated Gavi di Gavi plus coffee the bill, excluding service, was £105 - extremely good value.
Great, great and great!
We visited while on holiday in Whitstable. During our stay we ate out every night, making careful selections where to visit. I can honestly say Samphire was the best out of all. The service was was really nice, friendly and efficient. The food was great, cooked to perfection and good value for money.
The only bad thing a can say is its too far from where we live!
We really enjoyed our evening at samphire. The menu was really good and we really enjoyed the food. It is quite expensive, but worth paying for a special occasion as the food is cooked very well.
You must eat here if you are in Whitstable! We had a gorgeous meal and one of the most delicious starters we have ever tasted - the rabbit tagliatelle which we cannot stop raving about! The lighting and atmosphere were great, the service was spot on and we even came back for a lovely brunch at the weekend which was perfect. An absolute find!
Stayed in Whistable for the
Stayed in Whistable for the weekend and decided to book Samphire because of positive reviews - we were not disappointed. Pickled herrings and pork belly were the standout dishes - the crispness and depth of flavour of the pork belly was gorgeous. Nice bottle of wine too - highly recommended
Have visited this restaurant a couple of times before and was not disappointed this time around either. Decent menu options and the duck roast I had as a main (on a Sunday) was absolutely fantastic. Service was great, only thing that was slightly disappointing was it seemed to get chilly towards the end of the evening (to be fair it was a very cold evening outside), not sure if the heating had been turned off as it was near to closing time and we were the last diners left in the restaurant. Would definitely return.
Great Little Restaurant
The service was very friendly, food was great & atmosphere was lovely and cosy.
Need to book ahead (at least 2 tables turned away) for a Sat night (the night we ate).
There was quite a long gap between courses so not
Great if you are in a hurry but good if you want to make an evening of it as we did.
Good for eating with friends or as a couple.
Would definately eat there again if in Whitstable.
Want to feel happy on any day brigh
Go and have a meal here and you will not be disappointed with the service you are offered by the man and woman who meet you as you enter and continue to be attentive without being overpowering.
You might go in with a down feeling but that will change as those who serve you wish this to be the best meal you have had.
We arrive a hour early but they accommodated us al be it that it mucked up their table plan and the laugh they gave when they both forgot we were already there and thus had a spare table. A truelu great meal and happy atmosphere
have been going to whitstable for anumber of years and never eaten in Samphire. Booked for Sunday brunch - pleasantly surprised - the full english breakfast was huge and the ingredients mostly good - bubble and squeak could have been better. eggs benedict very good, nice hollandaise and not too much of it, proper ham. The menu board had some good meals on it - all in all will go back and will definitely try dinner next time
