One of the best meals I have
One of the best meals I have had. Four excellent dishes and one very good one with perfectly matched wines. A great evening.
A lovely evening
The whole experience was superb. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. The welcome from the staff is warm but not overpowering. Thought had been given to our seating position, we were only two on a table usually set for four diners, but we were positioned so that we could speak to each other comfortably and also see the rest of the restaurant. The food was excellent, I cannot fault anything we ordered. When perusing the menu and wine list the waiter and waitress were well informed and were able to answer our questions knowledgeably.Overall a lovely evening of outstanding food and attention to detail.
Very good food served to fast
The food was fantastic but served to fast. You receive one course after the other without receiving the time to enjoy the very good food.
An extremely pleasant experience,
An extremely pleasant experience, with prices comparing favourably with comparable quality in central London. Courses were perfectly spaced and service discreet avoiding being over fussy.
Fantastic food and service
I took my partner to The West House for lunch, we had the tasting menu. The food was delicious could not fault one thing the wines were perfect and so was the service, I would really reccomend this restaurant as a must.
A Very Special Night
We visited the West House on Saturday evening as we were staying overnight at Leeds Castle, 25 minutes away. We had the tasting menu as it came recommended and were both absolutely delighted with it. Each course was exceptional, my highlight was the duck breast in lapsang duck tea but we both loved the crunchie to finish. The wines were a good match to each course, the service was exceptional and we will certainly return. In terms of value for money I think our meal was exceptional, there is nowhere in London offering this standard of food at these prices.
Absolutely excellent experience. We had a weekday lunch and the meal was first class. The service also hit the right note in being friendly, informative and helpful. Lovely restaurant in a lovely village.
This is exceptional value for money for the very high standard of cooking and service.
Worth the wait
We had previously booked to go the The West House but had to cancel at the last minute. A few months went by and we got the chance to rebook a table. It was well worth the wait. The little extra dishes were unexpected and really good. The presentation was excellent. And the service first class. I would definitely recommend The West House to anyone you won't be disappointed.
We arrived slightly early and were shown to our table without a fuss. The restaurant is small but not cramped. Lovely fresh bread was served quickly and followed by an appetizer of cheese pastries. Our starters came quickly, the Mackerel was our favoutite. The mains followed and were super, we had the lamb and the John Dory, both were full of flavours. Desserts were of an equal quality. All finished with some superb teas. A very enjoyable evening.
A very good meal.
My wife and I chose the taster menu with wine selectio. Every course was excellent, and we both felt the right size considering the 5 courses, amuse Boucher, tasty bread....
The only comment my wife had was that for her, each pretty full sized glass of wine with each course, was probably too much. We're not heavy drinkers and by the third course, she had a kid to start too, she was rather squiffy! it probably amounted tomore than a bottle of wine each. Each wine was very well chosen, and complimented the food beautifully.
In future we may have the one taster with wine and one without and share each glass. I must admit I quite liked the amount of wine but was really glad we had booked the Tudor Inn across the road to stop for the night!
Visited for lunch.. absolutely
Visited for lunch.. absolutely fabulous. will definatelty visit again.
The Best in Kent
Despite having been going for quite a few years now, this small treasure remains the finest creators of haut cuisine in the county. Never ever disappointed.
Recommended by a friend and exceeded expectations. Superb food. Beautifully presented and tastes to die for. Will be going back soon!
First meal in Michelin star restaurant. It was for wife's 80th birthday. Thoralyenjoyed by all
I took my girlfriend for dinner. She is always so particular about service that I did my homework and found this place. It's on my route to work but had never spotted this unassuming little restaurant. The price is high but so is the quality and you do pay for what you get. We had the 5 course taster and every dish was a delight to consume. We left very satisfied and not a negative word was uttered regarding service that usually accompanies our journey home. Big congratulations to the front of house staff (and obviously the chef) . Highly recommended.
The food was absolutely amazing,
The food was absolutely amazing, although the restaurant was really quiet for our lunch it was lovely atmosphere and actually was just perfect. Perhaps the music mix could have been more consistent, it did jump between different genres .
The whole experience you can see is created with love and care. Thank you
Make a visit
It's worth going out of your way to visit the west house. We went for a mid-week lunch & enjoyed every minute. Friendly service, fantastic menu & beautiful location. Very good value, I would recommend it to all
Fab for special occasions
We went to the West House for my husband's birthday having read excellent feedback for the place online. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated with the utmost respect and kindness from professional and friendly staff. The restaurant was spotless, and despite being empty when we arrived, was buzzing soon after. The attention to detail here is incredible - I was wowed by the transparent tea pot and timers! I thoroughly would recommend the pigeon starter, and my husband's mojito dessert was just exquisite. The cheese biscuits were delicate and delicious, and the bag of bread is fresh and yummy. This is one to keep secret for your best friends only - before everyone books it up and you can never get a table. GO NOW!
Lunch at the west House. lovely
Lunch at the west House. lovely location, beautiful building and excellent food. The service was very friendly and efficient.
Will definitely revisit.
Tip Top Dining
Have eaten here many times before and they have never let us down. Fabulous food and a very friendly atmosphere. Just make sure you are hungry before you sit down. The portions never look very big but there are so many delicious things put down before you start e.g. home made bread and biscuits, olives, etc., that you need a good appetite to finish three courses. Wine selection very good as well.
Very good food, esp. for rural Kent
Food was very good, excellent value for a three course menu
Fantastic food within a very comfortable and friendly environment. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended
Lovely village setting. Very
Lovely village setting. Very pleasantly surprised to have London standard cuisine but at non London prices (and with good parking availability). Service friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Left feeling satisfied on all fronts.
Delightful and surprising,
Delightful and surprising, we were served treat after treat. We emerged feeling cosseted and dazzled.
Finest food in Kent
This restaurant is in a lovely old building. The dining area is not very large, but doesn't feel cramped. Staff had a professional and friendly manner and looked after you well.
The food had a great balance of flavours. The mackerel starter was very good, as was the octopus.
The lamb and beef was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. Gravy/jus was delicious. Vegetables were presented in deceptively simple combinations and tasted wonderfully fresh and light. Small stuffed courgette flowers surrounded by thinly sliced, long curls of courgette, were lovely.
The best pudding was a raspberry, chocolate and coconut combination which was sensational. A close second was a peach panna cotta. Breads, extras and coffee were done well. Nice wines.
Very relaxed atmosphere and
Very relaxed atmosphere and we were made to feel welcome by the front of house and waiters. The warm bread and the olives followed by the cheesey nibbles set the scene for a lovely meal. I particularly enjoy the John Dory, whilst others friends on our table enjoyed said the Lamb was delicious. A great evening, eating well presented and delicious food, good wine all with excellent service. So nice to have the table for the evening and not to feel rushed.
Delicious quiet lunch for two
We went on a Thursday in August and there was only 1 other couple dining. It's a shame for the restaurant as this a gem of a place: very traditional Kentish house in Biddenden village with the ambience of dining in someone's front room (in a good way) plus the food is absolutely amazing. We have been before on Friday evening and it has been packed but the lunch time menu offers good value and I guess Biddenden just doesn't have the catchment to fill the restaurant but if you don't mind a quiet setting then it is a brilliant food experience with good but not over attentive service.
Worth travelling for
Second visit for dinner, following lunch a couple of weeks previously. Lovely small restaurant serving truly excellent food; actually the best we've had anywhere. Great service too from lovely (normal - as in just polite, friendly, not aloof or obsequious!) staff. It's a half hour drive for us to get to, but so worthwhile. Do go, I can't believe that anyone would be at all disappointed...
I went to The West House for my birthday and it met and exceeded my every expectation. The staff were very accommodating and personable and the food to die for.
You cannot beat quality and that is what you get at The West House.
Great ingredients, cooking and friendly service.
I booked the restaurant for my wife's birthday and also for my daughter who is a celiac. The majority of the menu was available to my daughter - either as is, or with slight changes and it was a pleasant change to be in a restaurant where there was a gluten free choice and it was catered with as part of the meal. We will definitely return.
I've eaten here a number of times and the standard of food is always excellent. The attention to detail on every dish makes it an enjoyable experience every time. Local seasonal ingredients are used in many dishes. The restaurant is comfortable, friendly and informal. Homemade bread is served warm, savoury nibbles are provided as a pre-starter and beautiful homemade chocolates accompany coffee. Perfect!
We were able to talk, were not rushed and were able to discuss / query the food + drink.
Drinks were first up, tried a Camden Hells Larger and the wife had white wine.
Next up homemade breads with butter and goose fat with a chopped bacon topping.
We eventually (I mean me as my wife couldn't decide ... all the menus sounded fantastic) decided on the 'Just a Taste' option with wine.
Each course was served with wine + explanation and food + explanation.
Between courses 4 and 5 (dessert) we had a selection of cheeses + explanation.
The desert was gorgeous, though I didn't like the combination with sherry (though not really a sherry drinker) but my wife loved it.
Then came coffee and chocolates.
This restaurant is a firm favourite of mine. The food is top class, beautifully presented and outstanding quality. The service is friendly and the staff are very attentive. Will definitely return.
Really good food, not rushed,
Really good food, not rushed, excellant service. A real treat for a special occasion. First class!
We went for the 5 course taster menu and I have to say that every course was superb. I also liked the fact that, as a taster menu, the portions were suitably sized, well spaced, and served with nicely complimenting wines. The West House has a cosy feel with attentive friendly service. Very enjoyable.
40th anniversary celebration
We found the West House to be relaxed, friendly and very efficient. The food was delicious and interesting, we couldn't fault it. We are very pleased we found it, having visited Biddenden several times before, we hadn't noticed the restaurant!
Good food and good value
I came here for lunch and tried the lunch menu. The food was really good, you would think that you can only do so much with tomato soup but the soup was full of flavour and the cheesy bread to go with it was a nice touch. For the mains I had the fish and once again it was full of flavour, the fish was cooked just right. For dessert the peaches and nice cream was amazing - it a must try. The restaurant is small and had an old pub feel to it - I like that there was no ambience music which makes it easy to talk to each other especially if it's just the two of you. The service was excellent, always polite and the food was served at good intervals, nicely spread out. Overall a very good experience and the lunch menu was very good value as well.
The food was of an extremely high standard, the service informal but attentive and knowledgable. We opted for the 5 course menu and whilst waiting we were given delicious breads, olives and cheese shortbreads. Our favourite dishes were the smoked haddock carpaccio, my sister hadn't swallowed her first bite before uttering the words "bonfire night" this remained her favourite dish of the evening, not surprising when a dish can evoke the senses into recalling a particular time of year, very clever. Then the foie gras, what can I say, the most delicately balanced flavours of rich liver and picked rubarb accompanied with confit duck and sliced gingerbread. Not to be missed; a beautiful restaurant hidden in a tiny picturesque Tudor-style village
Food was amazing, so full of flavours to get your taste buds going. Felt the 5 course menu was a bit restructive of choice but other menu was fine. Only dish was not as good as expected was the honey cream pudding with honeycomb etc .. Was a bit bland and just loads of cream! The beef and venison were cooked beautifully and just dissolved as they hit your Tongue! Intimate place for a special occasion. Would go there again.
It's unusual to feel so comfortable in a restaurant while still having a great fine dining experience. All courses were delicious and service relaxed, but attentive. We've had a fantastic time and we'll definitely come back.
Food was brilliant and staff really helpful. Was planning to drive home but then we decided to go for the Taster Menu which included a different wine with each course. Staff went out of their way to find a taxi for us (we live rurally and taxis are usually booked in advance). Really enjoyed whole experience. Was alittle worried before that being a Mitchelin Starred restaurant it would be intimitidating but was very relaxing. More expensive then average night out but you get what you pay for. Already told hubby would like to go back for my birthday!
The food here was exceptional and could not be faulted. We had the tasting menue with the appropriate wines. We will definitely be back.
My Partners Birthday
Took my partner their for a birthday meal, just the two of us.
We really enjoyed the whole dining experience, the food was exceptional and the price was very good for such a high level of quality.
The staff were both welcoming and friendly, the waiter explained every dish clearly and precisely
The building is a beautiful very old place set on a pretty countryside high street.
Would highly recommend eating here and will return myself as it was worth the 50 mile drive to have dined their.
Absolutely outstanding evening made all the more impressive by the father & son team. Wonderful service from Jake & fabulous food from his Dad. Can't wait to book in again!
Our meal at the West House was once again excellent. The choices are few for a weekday lunch but I never have trouble finding something I like. All three courses were delicious and the extras - bread, olives, savoury biscuits and a chocolate to finish - were possibly the highlight of the meal.
Booked this restaurant as a 10th anniversary meal for me and my partner, we turned up early, was welcomed by Jake and led to our seats, we weren't rushed and we had time to get comfortable, the food we ordered was amazing and so tasty, and for something that could be classed as minimal was so filling and full of flavour, the service was impeccable and cannot be undervalued for making our night so special.
Best restaurant in Kent!
Perfect food cooked with passion, care and attention to detail. Would recommend the West House to everyone and can't fault the food and service. Also the recommended red wine was spot on to my taste.
Newbies to West House
On retirement I was given the gift of a dining experience at the West House. We had moved from Scotland back to Kent, this was a treat we had been looking forward to.This is a small and pleasant restaurant with a family team and they made us very welcome from the start, the appetisers were a dream as was each of the three courses we ordered. Very seasonal Venison and Pork followed by two delicious desserts of Chocolate heaven and spicey apple tart washed down with a dram of Calvados ....
We were not hurried and enjoyed our meal over a two hour period with attentive and freindly service, we also ordered two bottles of wine from their well stocked and varied cellar, both great wines but the Sancerre won the day for me, devine.
