Very good lunch, the atmosphere
Very good lunch, the atmosphere in the restaurant was good and was added to with the view of fishermen and lifeboatmen working on the beach.
Apart from a slightly bland
Apart from a slightly bland starter (smoked haddock fishcake) the food at The White Lion was excellent. I had Sea Bass and Risotto with crab for main and it was cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had the sirloin steak and again that was excellent. Desserts too were top-notch - the cheesecake and the creme brulee were delicious. Regarding the restaurant itself there was plenty of room, and despite the restuarant being full the acoustics were good so the noise was not excessive. The restaurant's interior is very stylishly decorated, and the seats comfortable - making for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Finally, the staff were very friendly and attentive, and looked as though they enjoyed working there; a tribute to the manager. Recommended.
We had an excellent meal from
We had an excellent meal from the pre fix menu. Good choice and value.
White lion was great
We didn't know what to expect as our first choice of restaurant didn't have availability but thank goodness for that as the white lion pleased everyone in our picky group of 6 and came in at tremendous value to - will definitely return when in Aldeburgh or environs
Sunday Lunch at the White Lion
If you go to Aldeburgh whether as a sunday walk on the beach or as we did as a weekend break I would recommend going to the White Lion Hotel for a sunday lunch, good food and wine, great service and a dining room overlooking the sea what more could you want whatever the weather!
We booked sunday lunch here to include a visit to Snape Maltings and it was excellent. A lovely lunch in tasteful surroundings and a walk along the strand afterwards.
Overall we were very impressed
Overall we were very impressed with this restaurant. The service was very good. There was a christmas party taking place and the bar was very busy and noisy but the staff came over to take our coats and advised us that the group would be moving to the function room shortly. It was noce that the needs of other guests were met.
The food was excellent with a good choice and it was all served quickly.
The only grumble we had that it was a little cold near the bar area as the air-conditioning was on.
Did not disappoint.....
We often visit Aldeburgh for a short break, but had never been to The White Lion for an evening meal, so booked a table for the Saturday after xmas. I requested a quiet table for two tucked away, and they were very obliging. The restaurant was busy, but the service was attentive yet unintrusive, the food was delicious - well cooked and beautifully presented, and very reasonable...we had two starters, two mains and 1 dessert from their set menu, a bottle of organic rioja (superb!) and a coffee/mint tea - cost £52 - excellent value! I would highly recommed this restaurant and will be making sure I book again on my next visit to Aldeburgh!
Absolutely fantastic, with beef cooked to order - unlike may places they weren't averse to serving it rare. Service very good, we were looked after about as well as we could have been - would go back in a heartbeat. Many thanks for a wonderful time!
good casual brasserie ambience, large portions and good value. nice menu using local ingredients, lovely seafront location. Hotel rooms clean and nice recently refurbished, lots of hot water and a bath.Breakfast exceptional as all ccoked individually and served to you, thank heavens no buffet bar Overall to be highly recommended
A most enjoyable evening
We work on the basis that a meal is more than just a meal, it should provide for an evening's enjoyment. The White Lion did exactly that. We just couldn't believe how quickly the evening went by - a true measure of our enjoyment.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was very good indeed - couldn't give it outstanding as it isn't a Michelin Star operation - or we wouldn't have gone there! The ambiance was excellent and the menu extensive.
Only reason service didn't get 5 stars was we had a bit of a wait a couple of times. Nothing serious, but wasn't quite up there with the very best.
Highly recommended and we will definitely go again.
all four of us enjoyed a lovely meal at White Lion on Saturday evening. Great choice of both food and wine. Service excellent although we were early in the evening. Will definitely be back again.
The Staff are absolutely excellent!
The Staff are absolutely excellent! Top marks to them for efficiency and courtesy. The food is good, if not outstanding, and is fresh and well cooked. An enjoyable experience in a pleasnt room.
We have eaten here several
We have eaten here several times, and also stayed in the hotel. This time we took family with us for lunch and they too were impressed with the quality of the food. The fish is exceptional; tasty and very fresh. The White Lion is now a firm favourite when we visit Aldeburgh.
the atmosphere on a sunday lunch time is so welcoming and relaxed ,and the food and service helps to create a wondiful place to to unwind after a busy week. The afternoon tea is something not to be missed. Thanks for the e mail to remind us. only one coment the crumble topping was soggy not crunchie but we still enjoyed it.
First Class All Round
Once again the White Lion lived up to previous visits. We found the fixed price menu more than adequate for the four of us. The layout gives diners a good chance to talk privately if you want to. We were given a very warm welcome and the service continued to be superb. Food was well presented and of fine quality. For the price I would say unbeatable
My husband and I had a great meal at the Brasserie. It really was perfect. Great choice and top quality.
Dinner at the White Lion in Aldeburgh is one of the most consistently good dining experiences in the area. The day menu deal is outstanding value and always packed full of flavour. The availability of local bitter to compliment the food, as well as the other drinks for those who must, adds to the experience. Local sourcing at its best means food tastes of what it is supposed to - chicken that tastes of chicken is so rare it is notable when you get some, and the beef was superbly matured and flavoursome. Portions that satisfy the largest appetite and no stinting on the sides make £15.95 for a 3 course dinner exceptional value.
This was my second visit and I bought my girl friend . We enjoyed the music and the singer, he was very good and created just the right ambience.
We thought a dinner dance evening would be rather pleasant with similar music and the chance to have a romantic twirl round the floor...
I'm not interested in getting loads of Emails as I live in chelmsford and would only come on rare occasions.
Very welcoming, a table in the window with a seaview. Pleasant and not pushy service. The food is good with plenty of choice.
Delicious every time!
My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed all meals taken during our stay at the hotel. We enjoyed having waitress service at breakfast and the menu choices available. All food was well presented and beautifully cooked. Dinners were exceptional in quality.
Good value at a good price
I had the set menu of soused herring and grilled plaice which was excellent. The herring had just enough tang, and the plaice was cooked well, not dried out as so often can be the case. The service was efficient if a little impersonal.
White Lion - great seafood
The white lion provided great seafood, and wonderful service. Highly recommended.
food by the sea
Had an excellent meal at the White Lion. Staff very attentive, food was lovely and the special occasion was really memorable. Will definitely be dining there again.
Exceptional Value for Money
Had dinner here on a very busy Saturday evening - 6th July. We had a lovely quiet table tucked away out of the hustle bustle of the main restaurant. I chose the 3 course set menu - terrine, skate wing and walnut cake with walnut ice cream - delicious this was all for £15.95. The portions were of good size and absolutely delicious.
Fab place to eat
Brilliant evening. The food was as usual very good, a good mixture of food from the main menu and "specials". Despite being very busy as it was the 60's night on the green, the staff were very polite and friendly, and the food was presented fairly quickly.
Lunch on a Sunday at the White Lion has been a favourite of my family for some years. Following the refurbishment of the dining area it has become even better. The staff are friendly and attentive, but thankfully not intrusively attentive. Full marks for the quality and choices of the food, always superbly presented and real value for money. Whether coming as a family party of 12 including babies, or just the 2 of us, Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without the White Lion.
We visited the Brasserie at the White Lion Hotel for my wife's birthday for lunch, we had an excellent lunch.
We were very impressed especially to see how the hotel has changed over the last few years.
The staff were very attentive especially Pille.
Visited July 2013
Lovely restaurant with good
Lovely restaurant with good food. Had to wait a long time for our starter and then main course came very quickly after. This is really the only criticism. Would go again
prix fixe menu is excellent value
We enjoyed a 2 course meal from the prix fixe menu which was excellent value. The restaurant was busy but the service was very good. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
good value and service
we ate here as we were staying at the hotel. We chose the fixed price menu at £15.95 for 3 courses. It was excellent value and each course was delicious. The service was outstandingw and the staff were obviously well trained. We were very imprssed with the whole evening and would certainly visit there again.
We ate here for our 2nd wedding anniversary, we were greeted and offered some free champagne. Our waiter was adam who was great throughout the meal. Fantastic food and great wine. The evening was fantastic, would definetly recommend
Really enjoyed our Sunday
Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch! Good menu choices as well. This was our first but certainly not our last visit.Special praise must go to the Restaurant Manager who was particularly good, and clearly enjoyed his job!
Excellent, local food; imaginative dishes; excellent service and a great atmosphere.
Meals in Aldeburgh
If you don't book in advance at a weekend you may struggle to find a place to eat, The White Lion is as good as any other restaurant in the town and I would have no hesitation in returning, the staff are attentive without being intrusive, the food good and well priced.
Varied choice, beautifully presented and well cooked
Service was good without being obtrusive
Food was very tasty
Pleasant surroundings, friendly and helpful service. Wide ranging menu and reasonably priced. Would go again
