Gandhi Thali at Ganapathi !
Coming from South easy Asia, we are used to having South Indian meals, and was excited about visiting Ganapati ! It did not disappoint , the food was fresh, tasty, flavorsome and really authentic ! We especially liked the Gandhi thali ;)
Best Indian meal by a long way.
Extremely good quality food and beautiful, delicate flavours. Won't think of curry in the same way again! All finished off with a delectable masala chai ice cream that was an absolute delight to eat. Highly recommend Ganapati with it's lovely service.
We booked for dinner on a Thursday night, and were glad we did, because it was lovely and busy. The staff were all great, and went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The food was really delicious, (I particularly loved the bread). Plus, they are supporting a local garden, by using fresh produce from them, and the starter using those ingredients was awesome. The atmosphere was relaxed and warm and I would definitely go there again, and recommend you try it.
Ganapati is our firm favourite for southern Indian food. Other than being authentic they are also seasonal and on this visit we enjoyed the Mango Thalis; celebrating the honey/alfonso mango. Yum!
Lovely as always - great flavour in the prawn and chicken curries. Love the street snacks but wish there was a couple more of them!
Always a good place to go
Ganapati has expanded but is still super-busy and justifies its popularity with yummy south Indian food and a cheerfully busy atmosphere. The food is fresher and much less oily than your average London Indian restaurant and you'll find things not usually on the menu elsewhere. Pickles are to die for. Good cocktails (try the ginger liquer one) and Greenwich-brewed beers as well.
Best South Indian in London?
Beautiful food, beautifully prepared and served by some of the cheeriest waiting staff in the capital - but without endless visits to the table to enquire how your meal is going. All in all, a lovely place, very reasonably priced and pleasant, if slightly cheesy decor. And in case you were wondering, Indian wine is actually pretty good...
basic restaurant, basic crockery but what amazing food. Southern Indian, good portions, great food - nothing else to say except you must visit!
Been there 10 years and now I know why!
Best curry I've eaten in a while
My boyfriend and I are moving to Peckham so we arranged a 'date night' in the area to get a feel for it. Ganapati's had so much character - from the lampshades made out of children's plastic buckets, to the metal cups, to the elegantly bohemian waiting staff. Plus it was great for people watching!
The menu was varied and unusual. We shared some vegetarian street snacks for starter, then I had a tarur khozi chicken curry. Everything was beautifully flavoured and very fresh - no oiliness or heaviness. Another highlight was the beer we shared: an Indian pale ale made in Greenwich and bottled in a champagne bottle!
I'd recommend Ganapati to anyone and everyone - it had a very inclusive vibe. Thank you for a lovely evening.
An excellent meal. Very authentic and original dishes. The lamb and chick pea curry was fantastic. So flavoursome. By far the best Indian restaurant I've been to in south London.
The taste of south india in Se4
If you like your curry beyond the realms of Korma and Madras then Ganapati if for you.
Lots of interesting little dishes. Lots of interesting big dishes.
Booking is recommended as it was fully booked when I went on tuesday.
A perennial favourite
Could do with a bit more heat in the cooking. I feel Ganapati has very slightly gone off the boil in the last few years, but still a really nice evening out. Just not as exciting as it used to be. Fresh menu, lovely ginger cocktails, great little garden, really really nice staff. And light - you can walk out rather than roll out.
Best Indian in London?
Small, unassuming, local (Bellenden Road in Peckham) south Indian restaurant, and some of the finest Indian cooking in the capital. Wonderful menu which changes every few weeks, with its core dishes retained or recurring. Great wine and beer list (very carefully and knowledgeably selected and fairly priced). Make space for the classic pudding - chocolate, chilli and cardamom cake - an absolute classic. The staff are all absolutely first rate.
Having messed up my booking we arrived with one person more than was expected. The restaurant was incredibly busy but we were kindly given a small table to sit at. The staff were incredibly attentive helping us deal with the limited space available.
Then the food, freshly cooked, wonderfully spiced full of flavour and generous portions by the end of the meal we could hardly move.
The restaurant itself is small and cosey, very busy but not noisey. A real hidden gem of a place and well worth a visit.
Does what it says on the tin
Authentic South Indian food. Really really good you have to book because its always full. I used top table it was really easy. Good food about the best I've tasted outside south India. and service excellent.
Was a really wonderful experience
Great southern Indian food
Ganapati is a regular favourite and this latest visit certainly didn't disappoint. The menu is seasonal and this time we enjoyed a spicy tuna masala with paratha and a Mahatma Thali including mango masala, fresh chili roti and rasmali. Local Meantime beer and fresh lime sodas were the perfect accompaniment. Delicious.
South Indian in Peckham
Terrific food in this small South Indian restaurant, with excellent service from a trio of friendly young ladies.
It is one of the best restaurants in S London. It never ceases to impress, every time I go. The waiting staff are lovely and the food is sublime. You must try it!
Love this place!
My favourite restaurant in South London. Great selection of food including Thali. Fun atmosphere in vibrant surroundings. One not to be missed.
Authentic South Indian food.
This was the second occasion I've eaten here, and once again the food was delicious, full of delicate flavours.
Ganapati's of Peckham
The lunchtime special dishes at Ganapatis are half the price of the normal menu, around £5.50 for four or five elements such as rice, a delicate curry, a coconut or beetroot salad, fresh pickle and poppadum. It's all so fresh, unusual and aromatic, nothing like a standard curry. The puddings are delicious too, which is unusual for an Indian restaurant. They do the most delicious chocolate cake ever, flavoured with cardamom and chilli with creme fraiche.
Food is outstanding, so delicious
Food is outstanding, so delicious we spent most of the meal commenting on it, there's an easy going vibe in dining room.
Will be returning time and time again.
Cannot wait to return
Had an amazing meal here for my birthday. All the food tasted so fresh and the flavours were beautifully balanced. All our plates went back almost licked clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the quirky decor and atmosphere.
Hare krishnas dining
Not exactly authentic Indian dining but a very very good try in it. The ambience reminds me of a Goa, a western take on India! Food was delicious however recommend not eating the guinea fowl as there was more sauce than meat!
As usual ,a wonderful meal, fantastic rice, tender and delicious lamb korma and the best paratha's in the world.Prompt and friendly service. One of the best restaurants of its kind in London .
a corner of South India in SE15
Each time we return to Ganapati we are again delighted by the delectable and authentic South Indian food and the cheery service. The pappadums and pickles are a must and if you find the garlic and beetroot pickles as addictive as we do, you can usually buy a jar of each to take home. Frequently-changing menus feature seasonal ingredients and there is an excellent vegetarian choice. Unusual curries with, for example, guinea-fowl and rabbit add interest. The masala dosa is always on the menu and is scrumptious.
A very enjoyable experience
A very enjoyable experience for myself and my partner. Will definately go again. Food was delicious, and the service was good. A nice standard of customer frequented the restaurant.
As ever, always outstanding,
As ever, always outstanding, new menu, so much goodness to choose from, but as reliable as ever when it comes to delivery, and there's always, always the Paratha's to go on the side. Always order one each.
For the first time ever the service faulted slightly, the restaurant was only as busy as ever, but our initial reception felt like we'd added stress to the team's day/ But in time that melted away and we were back to our usual level of welcome and comfort. And, considering we'd turned up with an unnanounced buggy for dinner, that's not bad going.
Always excellent. Always welcoming. Never disappointing.
Lovely little place
Gets filled up quickly and has a lovely atmosphere. Delicious food, not too spicy for me despite what others have said.
The food was tasty and flavoursome. I kept me full for the rest of the day. The food was fairly priced and I would definitely attend again.
alway good to be at ganapati. the food is splendid. this time crab starter was especially memorable. the thalis are good but the a la carte is preferable.
Another great meal
I run the risk of repeating myself so will be brief -
Everything on the menu is excellent; fresh flavours, new and different combinations - definitely a cut (high) above your usual Indian restaurant.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable about the food and the the wine list has several of my favourites.
I'm a repeat customer and have already booked my next meal with visiting in-laws.
Successful family b'day celebration
Very necessary to book, which we had, especially on a Sat eve. They were turning people away. We had a very relaxed happy and delicious meal.
Enjoyable birthday meal
Took my wife for her birhtday meal having heard good things and was not disappointed. Food is excellent and very different - I only wish we could have eaten more! john
Amazing food as always at Ganapati
I haven't been to Ganapati for a while and it certainly disappoint. My East Ldn friends were very impressed with the quality of food, no oily meat in site! I had the spicy aubergine curry, recommended by the waitress, very delicious.
Delicious post-cinema meal
Second time at Ganapati and just as good as the first. The food is so different to what you get in bog standard Indian restaurants. It's fresh, full of unusual spice blends, and not remotely heavy/oily so you leave feeling full and satisfied and happy, not sluggish/greased-out. Top marks for the guinea fowl although everything else we ordered (veggie street snacks, masala dosa, lentil donut, daal, etc) was delicious too.
As usual it was packed on a weekday night. We arrived for our 9pm booking after going to the cinema and were quite hungry but our table wasn't ready yet so we did have to wait a little. That, and the overly physical couple (get a room) in the table next to ours are the only things that I could possibly fault - no big deal!
excellent food, highly recommend
the service was friendly and the atmosphere was great. really tasty unusual indian food and great cocktails. great value for money.
A great local restaurant
A very nice restaurant, efficient, friendly knowledgeable staff. The food is fresh and tasty. I can't reccomend this place enough.p
Excellent prawn curry - very
Excellent prawn curry - very fresh ingredients and stunning combination of spices. Good friendly service overall.
South Indian kitchen in Peckham
Always a pleasure to return to eat (as we often do) at this authentic kitchen producing fresh well-cooked dishes typical of the South of India. Spot-on spicing ranges from mild to eye-watering and the ingredients are well-chosen and sometimes off the beaten track - we have thoroughly enjoyed main dishes featuring rabbit, duck and guinea-fowl. Fabulous masala dosa and vegetarian dishes. This time, we particularly enjoyed the rasam - spicy broth with lentils and cauliflower. The home-made pickles are fabulous and if you are lucky they may have a spare jar for you to buy to take home. A gem.
Delicious curries, excellent
Delicious curries, excellent service and lovely home made desserts
Want a Frsh ingredients cooked to
Ganapati is an exceptional restaurant. It has a fresh lively quality and for a good authentic South indian food experience a must. if you like Street food you must try the vegetarian street snacks starter
The savoury lassi freshens and enlivens, so you don't need alcohol
Not a tikka masala in sight
The menu was original, different and exciting after years of seeing the same Indian dishes over again. One for the adventurous curry lovers
Absolutely delicious every time
Ganapati is amazing, I have been going regularly for the last 3 years and it is a local gem. The food is always absolutely delicious, their popadoma are the best I've ever had, and regular menu favourites are the Thali's and paratha bread (it's out of this world). The menu changes regularly and is always creative and delicious with a great range of fish meat and veg dishes all cooked to perfection (the puddings are also brilliant and definitely worth some indulgence!). Ganapati was a revelation for me in terms of Indian food and I would fully recommend it, it's also a very pretty place with a nice atmosphere and lovely friendly service!
Fresh spice, everything nice
Ganapati was recommended to us by a friend whose suggestions around restaurants has never been wrong. She's was right again! It's a wonderful small restaurant on a largely residential street corner in Peckham. The seating is tight, the lights bright, the music vibrant--and the vibe itself very good. The food was fabulous, with ample veg options. I love Indian food and always compare it to the meals we would have with a neighbour who grew up in Peshawar and who always used fresh spices and roasted and ground by hand the dried spices she used. Ganapati proved a match, which is very hard to find! The spices were fresh and redolent. I especially enjoyed the pickles and condiments, typically not the highlights.
great as usual
fantastic food and fantastic service as per usual!!
Authetic Malayali Food
I lived right next to Ganapati and never managed to go; I finally made the trip down from Pimlico last Saturday and as someone from Kerala, this is definitely the best Kerala food (Malayali chefs makes a big difference) available in London right now! The porotta (paratha) was amazing, so was the Shoranur Kozhi and thoran/prawn kara. Highly recommended!
Amazing as always
I have eaten at Ganapati 3 times now and each time the food has been amazing. The quality of ingredients and depth and range of flavour on each dish is superb. It tastes like I imagine proper Indian food to taste like, nothing like the usual British Indian restaurant found on lordship lane.
It's now my second favourite curry after tayabs/Needoo.
Really great food and value.
Really great food and value. Never ceases to impress.
A delightful restaurant
Ganapati serves exquisite South Indian meals - the thalis especially are bveautifully presented and the experience is delicious
