The Fishy Alternative
After eating at Cafe Gandolfi for the last year or so this was our first outing to Gandolfi Fish. Food and service were excellent. The signature fish pie was a highlight and one that I will have again.
First time here, had a warm welcome on arrival and good service throughout. Excellent food from the set menu and good value. Coffee good but lukewarm, the only real criticism.
Excellent Mother's Day Lunch
Superb Sunday lunch - selection of menus to choose from and it was a very hard choice! Each course was beautifully cooked and presented. Superb service and excellent wine.
Up to usual high standard. Good food, well cooked and served with a smile!
excellent off menu skills
On viewing the menu at lunchtime on Friday, I could`nt make my mind up as to what i wanted, but I had a taste for monkfish or scallops before I even went for lunch, I asked the waitress, if it was possible to go off menu and have a monkfish and scallop risotto, she gave me a big smile and said she would ask the chef, to my delight, they said that it was possible, and the result was an amazingly tasty lunch and one very happy customer.
Great for a family celebration
The four of us went to celebrate our daughters birthday. She is a big fish fan so the menu was perfect for her.
We all enjoyed two excellent courses with lots of variety and fantastic flavours.
Service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable.
Would recommend Gandolfi Fish anytime.
Great food but a wee bit slow
We came for my wifes birthday. The food was outstanding and we couldnt fault the staff and standard of service. (Including a gret rendition of Happy Birthday) Service was a wee bit slow and we had a bit of a wait for starters but when they came they were delicious. Overall, we had a great time, were well looked after and hd an outstanding meal that I would definately go back andhave again
Had a lovely late lunch at the Fish on Saturday, Set menu , great value and a nice New Zealand white to wash it down. The Fish pie is great
Stunningly high quality fish cooked to perfection. By some distance the best fish restaurant in Glasgow and comparable to the best of its peers in the UK. Looking forward to next time already!
We enjoyed our meal thoroughly. The service was excellent and the staff very pleasant.
This was a family birthday get together.Everyone in the party enjoyed their meal.Service was very good even though the Restuarant was busy.It had a very nice atmosphere.Would certainly recommend it.
Gold Coast platinum service
Just the right amount of cooking and flavours for fishy foods and great pudes. Friendly and attentive and skilled service in a well furnished room designed for diners.
Reasonable value fish
Nice modern ambience, good friendly service and good quality fish at reasonable prices. Not cheap but not as expensive as say Gamba for fish
Gandolfi Fish is setting new standards for seafood in the Merchant City. On this occasion I enjoyed seafood tapas followed by Halibut while, over the table, lobster spring roll was followed by BBQ monkfish.
Sticky toffee pudding brought the evening to an end for my wife while I savoured three Scotyosh cheeses.
Affordable and local, Gandolfi Fish has become our go-to place for dinner at the end of a busy week.
We met for a girls lunch. Good location for a group, menu choices were excellent and service was great. Good value for money - I would recommend.
Pre theatre menu is excellent
Pre theatre menu is excellent quality and a great price.
Thursday night at Gandolfi Fish
The welcome was friendly. The service was attentive. The food was outstanding.
The restaurant was busy on arrival and we had to wait 15-20 minutes for our pre booked table. The menu was interesting and the staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the wine list. The starters we chose chilli squid and fish tartar were just right. I chose a fish platter which was steaming hot, very tasty and more than ample. My partner chose the spicy mackerel, which was delicious but badly undersized. We shared our disappointment with the staff who reduced the bar bill as a gesture of goodwill. We would definitely return as the atmosphere and food was great, but we would beware of the most appetizing item on the menu as it could be in short supply.
Surf and Turf to Die For
Started the meal off with a bottle of Prosecco and followed with a bottle of Planeta Carricatne to accompany Surf and Turf - the fillet steak, scallops and lobster (as an alternative to linguistines) were cooked to perfection. We had brilliant service from Carly and her team and they made our afternoon. Thank you.
A fantastic meal with great service on a Friday evening - what more can you ask for? Black pudding and scallops starter was perfectly cooked, and the main course monkfish was very tender and not chewy as monkfish can sometimes be. A thoroughly enjoyable experience at a price which fairly reflects the quality of the restaurant experience. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone who has not visited previously - this was my first time there, and it won't be my last.
A frequent visitor
Have never had a bad meal out of this restaurant and have been coming here for literally years from when it was only Cafe Gandolfi to now they have the bar and fish to add to the group. Always a great menu with great sea food dishes you just can't get anywhere else in Glasgow. Will be back again very soon.
Sunday Brunch decadence
Mussels and a bottle of Pinot Noir Rose ,
Couldn't be a better way to spend Sunday Lunch.
The starters were fantastic (squid, scallops and mussels). The salmon as a main is fantastic, (two people in the party had it). I had longoustines with garlic butter, but some of them were a bit soft for my taste (as if not well cooked). Tasted great though.
Brilliant Service, Exceptional Food
A last minute booking for dinner resulted in finding a real gem for seafood in Glasgow. The staff are friendly without being intrusive and were very helpful when helping us to choose from a menu which I was tempted to order in full! A good selection of wines, cocktails and other drinks were available - perhaps slightly on the pricey side for wine, but based on stocking good wines.
There was not a single item that we ordered that was not beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Salmon wellington, langoustines, scallops and a selection of lightly fried seafood were all delicious and well cooked.
Definitely a place to revisit.
Great Food & Outstanding Service
Had lunch here last week on a business trip. The food was great and the service was abdolutely outstanding. The lady serving us was an absolute joy and genuinely was doing everything to make our experience that much better.
We had all 3 courses and all the food was cooked perfectly and served in a timely fashion.
Will defintely be going back.
Nice pre-theatre experience
We had eaten here before for a pre-theatre meal and been a little disappointed with the battered fish n chips. This time we changed our choice and were not disappoined. What we had was a good quality meal which was good value. We would certainly re-visit and maybe have the same choice again.
My wife and I hada great Sunday evening meal at Gandolfi Fish. The mussels starter was good, with an excellent sauce to dip bread in to. I had halibut which was well cooked, and came with gnocchi and a cheese sauce. my wife had a mixed seafood platter with giant langostines. We shared a pudding - arctic roll. We had two large glasses of Argentinian white wine - great quality, but over-priced.
The restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening, but staff were efficient.
All in all, a good night out. I would go back.
Really enjoyable experience.
Went in for Sunday lunch and really enjoyed it. Food was very good and service excellent.
Had a great night at GF, love the ambiance, relax setting and great food.
Best fish restaurant in town.
Knowledgeable and helpful staff
Three stars in one street.
Albion Street is still my favourite street in Glasgow after another great meal at Gandolfi.
Nice but expensive !
Wife and I had our first visit to Gandolfi Fish recently and I must say we did enjoy it. I'm not a great lover of seafood but decided to give it a go.
Restaurant was busy and is a tad spartan, its all open plan and does not really have an intimate feel to it.
We both chose the pre theatre menu as we were booked in for 6pm. Despite all our good intentions to go fishy we both ended up with good old haddock and chips, although I did have the whitebait to start so progress of sorts for me !
A la Carte and wine list of a tad expensive so check both online before you visit.
Best bet is to go for the pre theatre menu, and a couple of soft drinks, then move on to one of the local Merchant City pubs for some reasonably priced drinks.
fab fish in Glasgow
Gandolfi Fish, was picked from the toptable list, we were passing through Glasgow and wanted an excellent fish restaurant, we certainly found it. The wife really enjoyed her Cullen Skink and my fish pie was beautiful, the matched wines were good choices too. We will certainly return when we're next in Glasgow
Amazing food, undesirable service
The food was outstanding - tasted amazing and the presentation was good. However, the table service was rather poor as we had to ask for water or condiments several times. Also, the personal hygiene left a lot to be desired as the server for our table had very strong body odour which isn't particularly pleasant when they are leaning over serving food or clearing the table as it is quite off putting when trying to eat a meal.
The food was very good, and good value for money on the fixed price lunch menu. Good choices for lunch menu. Service was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. Gandolfi fish is a favourite, although usually choosing from a la carte menu.
The desserts were brilliant too!
food was superb as was atmosphere
food was superb as was atmosphere at lunchtime, great value for money on the fixed lunch menu and will certainly be back - fish pie was superb.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. the preset lunch menu was excellent value while my husband enjoyed his langostines. Friendly, helpful staff. Wine prices are not cheap!
Fish for thought
An excellent array of fish cooked beautifully. Some helpings a little small for the price but a 2 course meal is filling. The menu is not limited, plenty of choice, I will definitely go back !
We visited the restaurant
We visited the restaurant for lunch earlier this week. The menu choice of shellfish is very good; we started with an excellent West Coast Crab with apple, tarragon and curried mayonnaise and toasted brioche. My wife then had prawns and monkfish, I had scallops with black pudding. Both were extremely good, nicely cooked, well presented. My wife didn't want one of the deserts from the menu, and asked if they would make her an affogato - which they did. The service was friendly yet professional.
Lived up to expectations
We would thoroughly recommend Gandolfi Fish. Pleasant, cheerful,
busy ambience, excellent and very friendly service and
delicious food. Wine selections outstanding. A brilliant
place to enjoy the Glasgow experience. Don't miss it!
Outstanding Saturday afternoon meal with some friends visiting Glasgow. The starter platter was delightful and all our mains where wonderful, great service and reasonably priced.
1st October 2013, evening meal
The restaurant wasn't that busy but still have a few people dinning. The food & service were very good - only spoilt slightly by the delay with the chips and one of them was a bit hard so suggested that these may have been rushed. A good menu with plenty of choice and some excellent wines to back-up the food experience. Only a bit away from outstanding, so looking forward to going back in future.
Visited Gondolphi Fish on a Saturday evening. This was a very pleasant experience and I cannot find any fault here at all. It is a lovely modern restaurant, chic but warm and inviting. I plumped for the monkfish and prawn 'scampi' which was fresh, crisp and delicious. My partner had the chicken kiev which was fantastic. Sticky toffee pudding and cheese to follow which were both lovely. The Brie served up was to die for!! Service was just great - overall a lovely relaxing experience.
High spend but worth it.
Went (not for the first time) for a pre-concert meal, for which there is a good value and varied menu. However some of the specials attracted us so much that we were happy to splash out for a full price a la carte meal. Particularly good were the casseroled baby squid with Stornoway black pudding, and a nicely cooked whole sea bass. My partner often has the fish and chips, which once again were hard to beat. Choosing a sweet which was on the pre-theatre menu but not on the main menu was no problem for the friendly staff.
Our first visit to Gandolfi
Our first visit to Gandolfi Fish and it was a very positive experience.
Food was of a very good standard and was well presented, service was slick and polite.
Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this restaurant. Definitely will return.
Our first visit to Glasgow and first visit to Gandolfi Fish. Exceeded all expectations. Food outstanding - very fresh tasting which is vital with seafood - the Cullen Skink was one of the best I have ever tasted and coming from across the pond I have had my fair share of "chowders". The wine was very good, service very friendly, super efficient without being excessive. I would have no hesitation to recommend it to any friends and we will definitely be back given the chance. My daughter's only regret was she was too full to order from the pudding list!
Good but a disappointing starter
Our meal was pretty good - although, my husband was a little disappointed in his Halibut starter, as there wasn't very much of it.
Great evening meal
Excellent starters and main courses - very tired after travel and absolutely nothing to fault.
Had booked for a special occassion
Had booked for a special occassion and was not disapointed, lovely food and service.
