Food good, as expected, but
Food good, as expected, but we had a really good waitress who had the right balance of attentiveness and service. She did forget one of the side orders but when reminded it turned up pretty fast.
Great day with friends
An excellent lunch following a visit with friends to the Shard to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Service was great especially as they were very busy. We have been before and will certainly go again.
Calamari starter was a little
Calamari starter was a little bland, but saw Lobster on the menu and thought we'd treat ourselves. Excellent choice, well cooked, well presented and joy to eat, even if we ping one claw across the room.
Pleasant evening at Fish
We spent a lovely Saturday night at Fish, dining outside with the bells of Southwark cathedral ringing. Food was good as was service provided by the attentive staff. This restaurant has a real buzz and is great for children too.
the best fish and chips I
the best fish and chips I have ever eaten - even though all my (southern) friends moaned about the mushy peas - the waiter was really happy to substitute.
Great food - brilliant service
Great food - brilliant service - a tough expensive, but worth it for the quality of the food
Thai fishcakes, delicious. Calamari, lacked any real flavour. Raw oysters were yum: a good size, fresh with no sandy bits and great value!
Lobster was fresh and cooked and seasoned well.
Fish pie: had large pieces of fish in the dish, although would've liked more flaky bits of the different fish. A little too salty with too much mash, but when eaten together, the combination complimented each other well.
Monkfish: really fresh, but slightly over grilled.
Fish cake: lightly breaded, fried and the fish blitzed together creating an interesting texture. Balanced well by the light butter sauce.
Don't order the 'fresh' jug of lemonade as it had no lemon taste and was only water with a bit of sugar and a few slices of lemon.
I went here for my birthday
I went here for my birthday with a group of 8 people, chosen because I love seafood. We had a wonderful time and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. If you like fish, this is a must-try. Great food, great service, and good value!
We lunched here as a get together, an hour earlier than booked. The maitresse d' very helpful. Fish cakes, fish pie and sauvignon blanc. Simple and very tasty, served by charming staff and as we left we made a point of thanking the chefs who cook alongside the diners... It was the hottest day of the year so far but they didn't seem fazed. Fantastic. All in the middle of Borough Market and masses of people.
Very Nice place
The quality of the food is worth to give it a try !
The quantity was good, and we were seated outside !
We had a nice bottle of champain.
So I would recommend the place, the food is fresh, the service was great !
Lovely food and great service
Service was fantastic. Food was very good - fresh and simple.
Good food, nicely cooked
Thai fish cake starters were much better than most Thai restaurants, but not the best we've had. My whitebait (main course) did not have any accompaniment, which I thought was a bit stingy. My husband really enjoyed his lobster, but the clams were very slightly undercooked (he loves mussels, but usually avoids them in restaurants as they're generally overcooked). Bread and butter pudding was exceptionally good.
I would recommend FISH! to anyone who enjoys good fish well cooked. The menu is exceedingly simple but the fish is fresh and well cooked. We had the squid and whitebait to start and excellent sea bass and swordfish (pan fried with hollandaise sauce and grilled with salsa verde respectively) to follow. All was excellent and it was lovely to sit outside (and be able to smoke!).
Five happy diners
Friendly and relaxed with very good value and quality food. Five of us ate for a business lunch. All meals were served together, the club sandwich was so big, half was boxed up for later! The service was attentive without being over bearing - just the right balance. The haddock and chips was the best I've had in ages. I can't wait to eat here again!
Fresh seafood in a nice surrounding, good and quick service
1st time diner. Recommended by a friend - thanks!!!! Pre wedding proposal meal!!!! Loved the atmosphere. Service great.
lovely venue in Borough Market.
lovely venue in Borough Market. Fish good, batter good but not great, tartare sauce not good and could easily be improved. Very good service.
Great british grub
The beer battered fish & chips was fantastic and the ambience sitting outside surrounded by the bustling borough market makes it a great lunchtime eating experience
perfectly cooked fish dishes
This restaurant does a good range of great fresh fish dishes with a good choices of sauces and side dishes and served perfectly for lunch before an afternoon in the Globe theatre!
The best Fish and Chips in London..
I really love this place! The stall I use for lunch when I worked in the area, I recommend the Mackerel Bap! But this was the first time we ate in and it didn't disappoint. I had traditional cod and chips and the fish was so fresh and tasty that I left most of the batter (which is unlike me) and the minty mushy peas were great! The calamari starter was also very fresh and well cooked...
The only downside... The freshness comes at a price of course and it can be a little pricey but overall, it is well worth it for the best fish and chips in London :)
I do love squid!
This was my second visit to Fish. I sat outside this time. Great atmosphere, great food and excellent service. As there is a set turnover time, I did feel a little rushed. It's worth it though. Tables are a little close together, so be warned, no private conversations at the table and loud neighbours can become a nuisance, but one has to remember the location and set-up. Borough market is always going to be busy.
Squid is probably my favourite fish in the world, and I've had it America/South Africa and here in the UK and I must say, it's the best grilled calamari steak I've had in years. A massive thank you!
Lemonade let us down.
The food was great. I had rock and chips. But the homemade lemonade was weak. At six squid a jug you expect better.
A Quick Bite of FISH
I booked in for a quick bite of lunch on my way to visit a relative in South London. As it was a Saturday I thought it best to book but on the day there appeared to be tables tables available anyway. I only wanted a light lunch so I had a glass of chilled white wine with some marinated anchovies and then had an enormous bowl of whitebait. The service was excellent as was the food and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I would certainly go again.
A little disappointing
Mackerel. Insufficient fish for cost, can purchase a large fresh quite cheaply, prefer my own!
Vegetable garnish, hard tasteless carrot &wilted tough green veg
Calamari starter, fish very tough !
Fish soup, very spicy, enjoyed by 2 of the 3 diners who had it.
Fish &chips probably enjoyed the most , sadly I did not have it !
If you treasure fresh fish, this is the plaice to eat! Good choice and the tuna was cooked to perfection.
I booked Fish! and then read the reviews so I was in 2 minds what it would be like. I have to say the service was excellent and the menu was great. Once you add up all the extras ie the side dishes of veg etc it wasnt cheap - £109 for 2 of us with no alcohol and no desserts but its was a nice setting and very relaxed. Would definatley take clients at lunch time or frienmds in the evening. the market wasnt there when we went as it was evening but i can imagine that the atmosphere is great when the market is in full swing.
Good staff, good ethos.
Lovely staff and service, very good food (slightly overpriced, but still reasonable value). Great if you're interested in trying new fish, and good that they aim for sustainable and local sourcing of produce.
Lovely staff and fantastic
Lovely staff and fantastic food. Great place to stop for lunch if you are visiting Borough Market and need a break from the hustle and bustle.
Wet Sunday dining
This was not our first time at Fish! We arrived on a rather grey/wet Sunday afternoon for meal before going to Globe Theatre. The restaurant was fairly quiet, staff were friendly and welcoming. We chose a whitebait starter to share to allow room for a dessert. My husband chose a scallop dish as main course which he said was very good. I chose grilled sardines with side order of chips which we shared. Both orders came with salad and were of just about right size to allow for dessert. For dessert my husband chose bread & butter pudding with custard which is one of his favourites whilst I ordered the chocolate fondant & as I don't like cream the waiter replaced this by ice cream. As wine seemed slightly high we opted for beer.
Excellent Gluten free menu
I am a coeliac and was so delighted with Fish!'s special diet gluten free menu
Lovely Fish Restaurant in
Lovely Fish Restaurant in the heart of Borough Market.
Reasonably priced and all food freshly prepared and delicious!
Staff are nice too.
Restaurant was a bit empty
Restaurant was a bit empty so it lacked some ambience but the food was excellent and the service was attentive and friendly.
We really enjoyed out meal
We really enjoyed out meal and the restaurant had a great, lively atmosphere which reflected its market surroundings. The staff were very helpful and we had good service.
One of the nicest restaurants
One of the nicest restaurants in the area. Loved the décor, service excellent and food outstanding. Only downside was that there was little in the way of reasonably priced wine. Table wine should be available for £10-12, not £20 plus.
Had a great night at Fish! The food was excellent, the service team were great and really friendly.
Fish Lovers Paradise
It is good to come across a fish restaurant that serves a good selection of fish and shellfish. We had the set menu and my lemon sole was perfectly cooked and very tasty and my wife's smoked cod and scallion mash was exxcellant.
Excellent as ever
Delicious meal. Had the set menu which was excellent and great value.
Had a lovely evenng at Fish.
Had a lovely evenng at Fish. The food was great and the service was excellent.
A really good meal in a great spot
The food was delicious and good portions too. No one went hungry, the service was quick and effiencent but not intrusive. A really good meal in a great location.
This is the second time that I have eaten here with friends and both times the food has been delicious. This time we visited on a Friday which was a market day so the restaurant was very busy but the food was still of a high standard. Well worth a visit.
Nice family meal
We had booked but moved our booking forward as we arrived early, which was fine. We had two courses with drinks. For starter we had whitebait and bruschetta which were very good. Mains were fish and chips, tuna burger which were both delicious. My husband had Dover sole which was fabulous. Service was friendly and efficient. We like this restaurant and have dined here many times, it's a nice part of town, with Borough Market next door and the cathedral.
Perfect for seafoodies
Lots of choice, I especially like the choose your own option, great starters as well.
We found Fish online while looking for places to eat around the Borough market area as we were sending the evening at Vinopolis and didn't want to travel too far for food afterwards. We were running a little late so I called the restaurant to inform them and they could not have been more accommodating, moving our reservation back by 30 minutes, greeting me by name on arrival and even charging my almost flat phone battery when I asked them. The food was good quality and portion sizes were better than expected. It was quite busy and had a nice 'buzz' about the place. All the members of staff we came into contact with we're friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back given the chance.
Enjoyable Friday Lunch
I thought the cod and chips I had was good, service was quick and friendly and I enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant (friendly social chatting generally), along with the sunlight coming through the glass roof on the day. Overall an enjoyable hour which contributed to a relaxing Friday afternoon. I think the next time I visit I'll have the scallops!
Took my partner here for a birthday meal as he loves seafood. The setting was great - nice open kitchen so you can see what's being made, excellent quality of food and a really good selection to choose from. We had the lobster that was on the special's menu and it was looovely.
The staff were friendly and not over-enthusiastic...the table was a little too small for the amount of food we ordered but it made for a bit of entertainment.
Would definately recommend (already have!), and would definately go again!
All the food was very good, however the restaurant is incredibly noisy when full so it was a case of eat, don't talk. The Halibut and Swordfish were very good and perfectly cooked and as one would expect in a restaurant called Fish, the fish soup was amazing. Good beers too from a Greenwich micro brewery called Meatime
Fun place for a simple meal
I went to fish! the other night. The food was excellent as always though it seemed a little expensive. All told it's a good option for food in Borough - an area which can be very mediocre and expensive if you're not careful.
Good food, great atmosphere
Food was very good, service was outstanding even though the place was heaving, the ambience was great
For me and my companion, both ladies from the north of England, fish and chips with mushy peas are part of our culture. We had spent the morning at Borough Market on a cold and very wet day. We had reserved a table beforehand online, which was easy, and efficiently confirmed by email.
The restaurant was very busy, but our lunches were brought to us promptly, well-prepared and presented. The batter was light and crisp, fish well-cooked, and chips were crisp and dry. Tartar sauce was provided and delicious, as were the peas. The tea we requested afterwards was a bracing English Breakfast.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and were served by a very pleasant and helpful waitress. Thank you.
Fish is one of my favourite
Fish is one of my favourite restaurants in London - the location is excellent, the building original and attractive and the food excellent and consistently good. The service is always friendly and you can rely on having a good time and a great meal.
