First Time in London
The staff got to know it was our wedding anniversary and at the end of the dinner service we were served some sweet delights wishing us happy anniversary. That made it special for us. the food was really good too...Brilliant!
Excellent food. Lacks atmosphere
A good choice in terms of the food, although the main course lacked flavour. Lacked atmosphere
Perfection at it's best!
Great deal with toptable - had two courses with a glass of Prosecco.
This was our second visit to the restaurant. The restaurant is very intimate and quiet, making a great change from noisy London restaurants. We cannot fault it in any way. The food was devine, the service was impeccable and brilliant value. Would definitely eat there again without hesitation.
Highly recommend it.
Lunch at 36
A fabulous meal in a pleasant setting. The staff were very friendly and the food was fantastic and very good value.
I was however surprised so many tables were empty, hence the slightly reduced rating for ambience.
One of London's secret gems
It is always a delight to visit the 36 Restaurant where one can expect excellent food to be served in quiet and charming surroundings. I have always had wonderful food at this restaurant, beautifully prepared and presented.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Thirty Six. The service was excellent, very attentive without being intrusive. Both our starters, the quail and the pork dish were delicious and the duck main course was excellent. The chocolate and caramelised banana pudding was yummy and the cheese course offered a good variety of well sourced cheeses.
Go here for a real treat
Everything about our meal was exceptional and way beyond our expectations. We had a friend staying from abroad and wanted a treat and this did not disappoint.
Service precise and attentive
Service precise and attentive without being intrusive. Food imaginative, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Ambience muted but pleasant. It was a very hot day and the aircon was not quite coping, otherwise to try to pick fault would be churlish.
We dined on a Friday night at 9pm. We were the only people there, which did mean the atmosphere was a bit lacking. We had the 3 course deal and there was an excellent selection to choose from. There wer also several small free dishes in between courses. We had the venison and lamb as main courses - both cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic and very good wine recommendations. I am very surprised this place was not busier - although not cheap, with the toptable deal it was good value given how good the food was. We'll definitely return.
Thirty Six is an undiscovered gem
Another brilliant meal with excellent service with waitress recognising us one year after our last visit! I dont know why this isnt busier but enjoy it while you can get in and especially on the current bargain deal.
A secret gem
I can't believe we'd never tried ThirtySix at Dukes Hotel in St James' before. It's a tucked away hotel in the heart of the West End and the inning room is beautiful and intimate. Our lunch was beautifully prepared and presented like works of art.
The toptable offer included a glass of prosecco which I wasn't expecting so that was a lovely surprise. My starter of goats cheese & beet root salad was gorgeous and nothing like the ones I've had before. I chose stone bass for main and tht was beautifully cooked and presented with heritage carrots. A brilliant lunch deal at £25 each - I'd definitely dine here again.
Incredible dinner at thirty
Incredible dinner at thirty six. Service outstanding and food was incredible. A true hidden gem which with the top table deal offers michelin star quality at affordable prices. Service outstanding, much more genuine than we have recieved at much pricier establishments. Made my fiancées birthday special. Restaurant was quite quiet, but if your company cannot make your evening special you should question who you are dining with.
first class evening
we went to 36 for a rare child free night out for our Anniversary and could not have asked for more! Staff that were attentive when needed, knowledgeable on the menu, friendly and cheerful served us beautifully cooked and enjoyable food in a relaxed, comfortable environment. thank you for a lovely evening - we will be back!
Great little find
I stumbled across this when looking to book a romantic meal with my wife in a top class restaurant. It didn't disappoint. The hotel is positioned in its own quiet cul de sac in the middle of st James. Nice old place with feature Martini bar which Ian Fleming is rumoured to have used! The restaurant is small but well furnished and was quite quiet. The food was excellent, service warm and friendly but very professional. Waitress allowed us to try some wine before we decided on which bottle which was a nice touch. We very much enjoyed our experience.
I booked 36 for my boyfriend birthday after reading so many good comments about this place. And the restaurant didn't disappoint me. We arrived early and the place was empty. But since we weren't into crowded place, it fitted perfectly. The service was absolutely outstanding. One of the best in London I must say. The staff was very attentive but not intrusive. The food was good with small little surprises inbetween. Highly recommended!
We had the early bird menu
We had the early bird menu as we were off to a theatre show. The waiting staff were very conscious of this and served us swiftly but without spoiling the level of service. The food was delicious and the amuse bouches were equally delightful.
I went to Thirty Six with my sister for my birthday and we had an amazing meal. Everything was fantastic from beginning to end. Good choices, perfectly cooked, chocolate dessert was to die for and I regretted not keeping enough space for all of it. If I have to criticise anything, then maybe the carpet is a little dated so perhaps the decor could be improved? It's really only if I need to find something because to be honest it was amazing and thanks for a great dinner!
the service was excellent
the service was excellent at Thirty Six at Duke's Hotel. A terrific dining room to enjoy conversation & great food, well presented without loud blaring music. The early evening menu looks a bargain, but we used an excellent TopTable offer that included a bottle of wine for two.
Excellent food, discreet staff
The food was outstanding, staff pleasant and efficient and so nice to have plenty of room between tables. The Quail starter was delicious and my husband is still raving about the Pollack, venison and lamb also superb. We wanted a quiet dinner for two without interruptions so it was just perfect for us but the restaurant was devoid of any real ambience. Kosta Boda glasses and candle holder added a much needed splash of colour to the room which was a bit non-descript but perfectly functional.
One is never disappointed at the 36. The visual presentation of Nigel Mendham's dishes together with their splendid blend of flavours ensure one is about to experience a superb culinary delight. Wonderful cuisine attentively served is tranquil surroundings.
It is some time since I visied
It is some time since I visied the restgaurant at Dukes Hotel (now called Thirty Six). The new chef is very talented and the food was as good as one could get anywhere. The tables are well spaced and it is a joy to be in a restaurant where one can have a conversation without being overwhelmed by the noise which is all too prevalent elsewhere.
A quiet and relaxing lunch
The dining room at Thirty Six has the feeling of times past - good decor and comfortable - rather than sharp and modern. Very good food was accompanied by an equally good bottle of Torontes from Argentina which the sommilier provided as the alternative to a Sauvignon Blanc. It was a far better wine and a much better food match.
The wine was part of the top table offer which made the meal very good value.
A hidden gem
On an evening with rain bucketing down, I found Thirty Six partly to luck. Modestly busy, this tucked away restaurant was an oasis of calm. We asked for the £48 3-course with bottle of wine offer and found to our surprise that the information was incorrect. It was £48 for two courses (£60 for three) and One bottle of wine for two diners, not for each place as advertised. . Not wanting inflation and misinformation to ruin the evening, we proceeded. The service was superb. My Welsh lamb and my companion's duck was perfect. And to be fair we were given a really nice French merlot. It's a special occasion place. We'll be back again one day to try the tasting menu but this time wise to the fact that there are no discounted meals here!
Good for special occasions
We tried "3 Course Dinner And A Bottle Of Wine for £48". Food was very good. It was a good value given high quality food and decent wine. As this is rather a pricy, good for special occasions.
Of course, the famouse 'shaken, not stirred' martini at the bar is a must item to have a try!!
A hidden gem, well worth a visit
I took my husband to restaurant Thirty Six for dinner on a Friday night. We opted for the 3 courses and a bottle of wine deal. The food was excellent, we were able to select from the a la carte menu. We were given canapés to accompany our pre-dinner drinks at the table, this was followed by delicious bread and a pre- starter sent by the chef of cauliflower velouté and was very good indeed. Next we chose quail and pork, the dishes were both presented very well and proved to taste as good as they looked. For mains we both had salt marsh lamb, again a delight, which was followed by complimentary pimms sorbet, and finally deserts and petit fours...The wine was also a triumph.... We highly recommend this restaurant.
Impeccable service & stunning food
Our lunch could not be faulted. The service we received from the moment we walked until we left was courteous, sincere and very knowledgable. The food was devine, beautifully presented and fantastically tasteful and a definite highlight of the year.
Fabulius food great service
Fabulius food great service - top table offer excellent.
The lunch on Saturday 28 of September was very good. Meal was very tasty and very well presented!!
a discovery- not easy to locate,
a discovery- not easy to locate, as well hidden, however amazing service and food
I had been to Thirty Six a couple of years ago and was pleased to find it as lovely as I remembered. The quality of the food was exceptional, as expected, but it was really the service that stuck with us as we discussed the meal on the following day. The staff struck the perfect note between meeting our every need and remaining unobtrusive.
Superb food, good, well-priced wine list and excellent service. Amazing value for money!
Boyfriend's birthday, booked a deal here for 3 courses and a bottle of wine. Food was just divine, and lots of 'mini courses' in between. Being an aspirant foodie, he was in raptures at every bite. It WAS fantastic. Highlights were the lamb suet pudding and the amazing mushrooms that accompanied the duck main.
My brother and I chose to meet here because of the food reviews. We were not disappointed.
Imaginatively prepared and beautifully cooked fish, preceeded by a goats cheese flan served with three different kinds of beetroot in salad, and before that an amuse bouche of what appeared to be a delicately flavoured puree of butternut squash. All for £25. A lunchtime bargain!
The service was outstanding. Discreet, and helpful to the point of cheerfully making more than one trip to the kitchen to respond to our questions about some of the ingredients in each dish, as well as giving good advice on our choice of wine.
Downsides? Rather difficult to find ( but that's good really because it helps keep the dining room quiet and uncrowded!)
Thirty Six at Dukes a real gem
Unusual dishes, brilliantly executed, beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. Friendly and unfussy service in a quiet and elegant dining room, allowing guests the time and space to converse in peace. A good choice of wines. Our leisurely family lunch was perfect - and not a hint of an argument! At the end I wanted to go in the kitchen and hug the chef.
Perfect for a romantic dinner
I went to Thirty Six with my fiancee on Saturday night for a celebratory dinner, and I am happy I made that choice! The waiting staff was attentive, they provided detailed descriptions of the dishes and answered our questions in a very nice-mannered way, but knew how not to be obtrusive. The ambiance was nice, and I particularly appreciated the white/orange color theme of the place. The food was excellent, and we were served 4 delightful extra dishes spread between the main courses. The place is in the basement of the Dukes hotel, so getting there involves going through some corridors and down some stairs, but it's not really a challenge. All in all, I thoroughly recommend this restaurant for a nice, relaxing evening with delicious food!
A Gem in the heart of St James's
What a gem hidden right in the heart of the West End. Great service and food. I will definitely be going back for lunch very soon.
Lunch at Thirty Six
The food was innovative and beautifully presented, the service friendly and professional. A simply great experience.
We found this restaurant on toptable.co.uk at the last minute and booked an hour before we arrived. It was quiet and the food was excellent with outstanding service. Highly recommended to people looking for a classy restaurant in London without the tourists.
Have been going to Dukes Hotel and Thirty Six for some time. Both the hotel and the restaurant are fantastic. I would recommend it whole heartedly. The staff are polite and attentive. The food is classic, beautifully presented and tastes exquisite. The ambiance in the restaurant is relaxed, quiet, a great place for either business or romantic lunches/dinners. Oh, and if you have the chance to try one of their dry martinis - for which they are famous - do so. I understand that they will not serve you more than 2!
Excellent Dinner at Thirty Six
A friend and I went to the Dukes Hotel for the fixed price 3 course dinner plus shared bottle of wine for £48 at Thirty Six. This was an outstanding dining experience, and superb value for money. The staff were extremely pleasant and efficient. Every course was beautifully prepared and delicious - the lamb with suet was particularly exceptional. Besides the 3 courses we were also treated to 3 additional small chef's plates between the courses. Only small negative was that we were the first people in the restaurant at 6.45, so it lacked a bit of atmosphere, although by the time we left it was a little more lively.
Michelin Star Quality
Didn't disappoint my food was fantastic, however my mothers wasnt so good. The Pork starter was dry and hard.. the rest was amazing
great food..great value lunch deal
We had the lunch deal and it was fantastic value. Food was outstanding, service friendly. Restaurant should be busier and I'm sure in time it will.
Beautiful hotel hidden away behind the Ritz. Unfortunately, I did not get a good first impression since I went to the bar to meet my friend before dinner and was told there were no tables. I was not allowed to stand at the bar and so I was told I would have to go to the champagne bar by the restaurant. I felt that this was a little rude as I was given no other alternative. It was a good thing that I was happy to drink champagne! The food in the restaurant was very good and the service was excellent. Overall I would recommend.
Had the set menu lunch - seems a bit pricey at first but the food is excellent, served by enthusiastic and knowledgable staff. All in all a very good meal in excellent surroundings.
We had a weekday lunch.The
We had a weekday lunch. The surroundings were calm and relaxing and we had a superb leisurely meal. All the staff were attentive but discreet. The food was of an extremely high standard and beautifully presented, and the menu choice good. We do not normally manage three courses but this time it was a 'must' and with desert the tea and coffee is complimentary.
Thirty Six by Nigel Mendham at DUKE
My wife and I celebrated her birthday on a Saturday at Thirty Six by Nigel Mendham. It was excellent so despite a limited menu, the Food, Ambiance and Service were so good that it went a long way in making the day for us.
The map from Toptable seemed to suggest the restaurant was in St James Street but it's actually off this road on St James Place and set back a little!
Treated my spouse to a special
Treated my spouse to a special brunch for our wedding anniversary. Service was excellent and attentive. Ambience was cosy and warm and the piano player unobtrusive. The buffet selection consisted of three varieties of salads, cold meats and smoked salmon and haddock. No cheese. We both ordered the Eggs Benedict which was very tasty. The homemade waffle was delicious. A memorable experience but tainted by being charged over £40 for two glasses of champagne which was more then we had paid for both our breakfasts!
Perfect for a business lunch
Service was attentive but not overpowering , I will be returning
Also a great bar
My first experience at 36
My first experience at 36 Nigel Mendham and it was delightful. I was reassured about my severe nut allergy, was made to feel welcome and the meal was exceptional.
Tremendous value for money - unbelievable!
I loved the whole experience. My best Top Table booking.
We were welcomed by friendly, attentive and efficient staff. We all chose the Sunday brunch consisting of the Buffett and 4 choice main course and dessert. Venison and black pudding sausage? Fantastic. Creme Brûlée out of this world. Fresh waffles cooked to order - outstanding! A wonderful experience for all of us. Thank you Nigel and the staff at 36 for providing us with a suberb meal we will never forget.
