I have visited both this restaurant and the restaurant at Faringdon. Both have excellent food, wine and of course CHEESE!! Perfect food with good selection of meat, including some more unusual selections such as roebuck. The cheese room is the USP of this restaurant. You can go to the temperature controlled cheese room and choose the cheeses you like for your board. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and offer advice on wine, port and the items you choose to accompany your cheese which is rare in most reasonably priced restaurants. I have never had a bad experience of service food or wine. I can't praise it enough. Also a nice addition to the ambience of the restaurant is a live jazz band on certain nights. A great place.
Vivat Bacchus London Bridge
Basically, not as good as the one on Farringdon road, but pretty good. Tables are very close together, almost crammed in, one might say. Good food though - the platters are excellent as was my springbok burger, and there is a whole cheese room for those who like that sort of thing! Excellent wine list too.
I shared the beef with a friend
I shared the beef with a friend which is ample for x2 and very tasty. We went for a £25 bottle of S/African Merlot and it was excellent so for the price, I think this is a cracking place to go for after work dinner
We went here, in a group, on a Saturday night, fairly late at 10pm, and it was not that busy-possibly busier in the week and on Friday nights. They had live music there which wasn't too loud and proved to be good background noise.
We had lots of different meats and cheeses accompanied by lots of wine (decent selection and fairly priced)
Not a bad place at all, I just think it would do much better in a more prominant location.
very good service, nice evening
very good service, nice evening overall. Given it's a wine restaraunt, we didn't have a great experience on the wine.
Relaxing meal with friends
Had a really enjoyable meal with my friends. We tried the Springbok Burger, Kangaroo and Sirloin steaks and enjoyed all of the them. The waiters were attentive and knowledgable, particularly when we asked for info about the cheese board selections. The wine (Spice Route Mourvedre) was also really lovely. The small jazz band just added to the ambience. Would go back again.

I shared the beef with a friend which is ample for x2 and very tasty. We went for a £25 bottle of S/African Merlot and it was excellent. The addition of the cheese room gives it that extra special something but very good place this and I've been twice now!
Really great food, with "different" options, fairly good value and fab wine.
good atmoshere, good food
good atmoshere, good food and good value.
Portions a bit small and service a bit hectic, but had a good evening and we went home happy
We visited Vivat Bacchus at London bridge on a Tuesday evening, word to the wise, even on a tuesday its packed so book a table to avoid disappointment!
They have a great menu but we went for the platters and paid a visit to the cheese room to pick out (and taste) cheese.
Great experience, great food and nice atmosphere.
We went to restaurant, before
We went to restaurant, before we went on the Shard. Perfect location, and good menu options. Good service and friendly staff.
Spent a lovely evening here after work - first time to the restaurant and the service was excellent. The food - sea bass - was lovely, and my friend and I were very pleased with the whole experience. We will undoubtedly return.
Another lovely evening!
Vivat Bacchus is fast becoming a favourite of mine! The staff are always helpful and the wine and cheese is a great selection
Relaxed meal with friends
Had a lovely time, good food, excellent champagne. Great place for a midweek catch up with friends.
In Cheese Heaven :)
Great selection of cheese and wine, also refreshing to have a matredie that knows what they're talking about as well as the waiters for recommendations.
Pure indulgence and well worth it! :)
Any restaurant that has a cheese room has to be winner. Great place to head to for sharing plates.
Wow what a cheese room!
Enjoyed a very nice evening, food was very good, with offerings of the more unusual, I was disappointed when after convincing me to order the Zebra the waiter then returned to inform that it was not available that evening. The wine menu was quite extensive with a great selection although the prices seemed to rise quickly through the list.
Highlight of the evening was certainly the cheese room for me, with a vast selection the manager accompanies you to pick and choose what you would like on your board.
The waiting staff seemed a little confused that we were there to eat dinner even though we had booked a table although very freindly and knowledgable. Wasn't particularly busy for a Friday evening.
Interesting place. Had read reviews about it being a bit noisy so asked for - and got - a table in a corner. The waiter - Lawrence, a South African - was fantastic. Couldn't have been more engaging and helpful. The wine list was great with some unusual wines and a strong South Africa bias. Fair value too for this part of London. We ordered the kangaroo steak - which I was a bit unsure about ordering - but it was really, really good. The cheese board - or rather the cheese room - was an experience to behold. I'd definitely come back, certainly with work colleagues for a noisy dinner rather than a "working" meal. This is a genuinely original restaurant that holds its own - and indeed surpasses many - in this part of London. I'll be back!
Enthusiasm and good wine
I dined here with my Daughter as an early "Fathers' Day" treat. The service was very friendly and fun, and the food was excellent with a few exotic dishes for the UK such as kangaroo and zebra as well as more traditional fare. The wine list emphasises South Africa and Australia with a some very delightful reds.
They made a mistake in our order, and we ended up with a better steak than we intended. The bill was adjusted without question, and the charming manager came over to apologise and gave us complimentary liqueurs by way of apology for the mix up. I will go back again soon for such a relaxed and fun experience while eating good food and drinking great wine!
Always efficient and pleasant
Always efficient and pleasant service, nice food, reasonable and importantly you can have a conversation there as its relatively peaceful compared to other places near there
The Cheese Room
Myself and two other fellow cheese and wine fans booked Vivat Bacchus to have cheese for dinner!
Our waiters were excellent and the manager responsible for the cheese room was very knowledgeable. You can order various weights of several types of cheese or get one or two large chunks of your favourite. We ordered six different 30g portions of cheese which were then beautifully prepared and served with complimentary flavoured fruits, nuts, chutney/honey, mini bites of bread and crackers.
Later in the evening, having polished off every scrap we went back for a second helping of three more 30g portions (there were three of us dining).
A must for cheese fans. Thoroughly recommend!
Friday night pop in
Great service very good wine list wow cheese room to die for and the knowledge of the staff was fab impressed.
Great wine list too
Fantastic food, great wine (and some helpful advice too) and the most attentive service. Loved it.
I would return to try more
I would return to try more dishes. The kangaroo steak was delicious, and ending off the night with a cheese plate of selected cheese from the "Cheese Room" was an excellent end of an enjoyable evening.
This is a great formula. Excellent wines and perfectly cooked steaks. The cheese-board of the day was as good as I've had. Excellent mixture of cheeses and fruits.
great srlection of wines and cheese
Great venue for a different night out, cheese and wine list were excellent, food and service again was superb.
I booked vivat Bacchus for dinner with a friend visiting London on Saturday night. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food fantastic and great value for money (we had the set menu) and the icing on the cake was a wonderful Jazz band playing. They really were incredible! Definitely recommend this restaurant and will go back for sure.
Cheese room is fantastic
Had a family reunion at Vivat Bacchus post-Shard trip. We found the food to be both excellent and good value, and the wine cellar is excellent. But what really made the evening notable was the cheese board we shared at the end of our meal - the fromager was helpful and knowledgable - never speaking down to us - and the resulting custom cheese board was delicious. Highly recommend!
Great choice of food, wine & cheese
A really delightful meal with my family. My mum and i shared the kangaroo burger and springbok burger as we couldn't decide which one to have. Both were succulent and very tasty. Great choice of wine and cheese. The staff were great! Would definitely recommend.
Fun for an evening
It's a lovely spot where you can see the funkier city types swarming home of a night whilst you relax and enjoy a sumptuous dinner
I came here Monday evening, last minute.I opted for the 2 courses for £15.95. Initially I thought the menu options for the deal were quite limited, however, I did find both a start and a main I liked. The goat's cheese & parma ham on red pepper crostini was delicious, all flavours & textures balanced perfectly. The main of salmon and spring onion fish cake was again very tasty & well cooked. My friend ordered a la carte and had the scallops, they were tasty (although a bit too salty & wobbly), & then he had steak for main. Despite not asking how he'd like it cooked, it came medium rare & cooked perfectly. Staff were friendly & attentive and the free bread a nice touch. Also nicely ambient, particuarly for a Monday. Will definitely return.
Visit the cheese room!
Friendly service and an excellent wine and cheese selection!
21st dinner for London contingent
9 of us had dinner. Service was a bit slow. Food was good. Wine was good. Nice touch to bring a complimentary Prosecco for the birthday girl. Cheese board is exceptionally good....brilliant selection of cheeses served with fruits. It will always be on my list of places to go on a regular basis.
Our second visit to this Vivat
Our second visit to this Vivat Bacchus, Love the Cheese Room. The set menu has a good selection of choices and was good value. Fabulous wine selection. Will be going again.
Excited by cheese
Had a decent evening here. I was very excited by the cheese room. Set menu was good value (supplement for cheese board). Friendly staff. Would come here again.
Waiting staff are amazing, menu and wine list is excellent and the live music (every Saturday evening) gave it a great atmosphere. Think I might make this a regular thing!
vivat bacchus london bridge
this is an old favourite, really excellent cheese and wine and charcuterie boards. staff very friendly and overall a great choice in the area.
great atmosphere&food, live music
Atmosphere was great on a Sat evening, food delicious, wine mini tasting was a pleasant surprise. Service needs some improvements as waitress wasn't totally professional. First she dropped a knife, then she dropped a cube of ice and then picked it up and put it back into the jar of water that she was serving from, at the end we couldn't attract anyone's attention to get a bill. Overall we had a good experience.
I found it very calm and nice service. Food was good to v good. Wine selection v interesting but as there were many wine estates in SA I did not know whether they were renamed or new I could have done with tasting/ notes for the wines. I found it a good atmosphere and clean and tidy toilets. Staff good and overall I would say it is well worth going for the Kangaroo and Springbok choices!!
A nice night out with friends
Dined here with a group of girlfriends and had a great evening. Food, wine and ambience all great. Would eat here again.
Very nice evening with friends. Enjoyed 3 courses each plus a few glasses of wine each and couldn't really fault any of it. Friendly service, including the jazz band and man who showed us the cheese room. Choosing from the set menu would have made this significantly cheaper. Overall very good meal in very good looking restaurant.
Great wine and food!
I have been here plenty times as the wine is great, this is the first time I went for dinner and I was really impressed. The selection was good and the food cooked well. I had the steak and I really enjoyed it.
There was a group of 11 of us and we all enjoyed ourselves and the waiters were very attentive.
I'm looking forward to going back.
Good food and wine
Good selection of wines and a good value set menu to accompany the wines. Probably not the best food we have had but perfectly fine, given the price. Would return.
Fun and good
What a pleasant surprise to find this casual gem. Our Italian waiter really knew her wines and was most helpful, also in selecting cheeses with us in the cool room. They were all superb. Highly recommended!
Do the cheese room experience and make sure you leave room for it or go very hungry. You don't have to know what you're looking for as the staff on hand are very knowledgeable and make it a great experience.
Great night at Vivat Bachus. Only slight complaint was the food was not as memorable as the wine, and could have been served warmer! The wine choice and list is fantastic, the staff are very polite and helpful, not intrusive.
Highly recommend the wine, and the menu is good value for money. It is also a lively friendly atmosphere.
As always, purely dined from the cheese room menu.
The lady was so kind she came mid way through to make sure we were happy with our cheese choices.
I'm sure it won't be long until we return
Delicious Food and good service
Very good food and special/out of the norm menu. The service team was really attentitive and nice. Did not try any cheeses, but apparently famous for the cheese room. Will definitely go back to try their huge cheese selection! The ambience was nice, but not too special.
A gorgeous meal with friends
I booked this for mysf and two female friends/work colleagues after reading other reviews from trip advisor. What a perfect choice! Lovely busy Friday night ambience, perfect setting for a good catch up with the girls. A great menu very reasonable and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food - especially the melt in the mouth steaks. Really fantastic service with a smile. The cheeses from the very novel cheese room were gorgeous and the wine list extensive with some excellent and well priced recommendations. Overall we all agreed this was a fantastic evening and we highly recommend vivat bacchus and will definitely return one day!
Vivat Bacchus, London Bridge
Went here on Monday for an early dinner. We had sea bream and fishcakes. The latter come with nothing, but is filled with fish and the sea bream was moist with mash. We tried the three desserts, which were worth it! Good sauvignon blanc. As it was early evening, the ambience was only livening up when we left at 7.30pm.
Will come again.
