The restaurant recently changed
The restaurant recently changed management, however they retained their chef. The food is of the highest quality, well presented. The wine list has a range of prices to suit every pocket and they are al of high quality. The Starr also offers rooms at reasonable prices and the breakfast is also highly recommended.
Very much enjoyed
First visit to The Starr, was very impressed with both the service and the food. Unfortunately it was mid week and not very busy so the amibence was a bit dampened down. Would definitely go again, worth every penny!
A real treat.
We had been waiting for a special occasion to visit The Starr, as we knew it was a bit more expensive than some other restaurants in the area, and weren't in the least dissappointed. The ambience and service were amazing, the menu interesting (in a good way!) and attention to detail second to none.
We enjoyed the experience so much, that we have arranged to go back for our wedding anniversary in 3 weeks time.
Really good food
Very nice restaurant with a good atmosphere and attentive staff.
Pollock & scallops as starters were both very tasty and a decent size.
Mains: Steak was cooked superbly; lemon sole slid effortlessley of the bones and was perfectly complemented by the mussels, bacon and leek.
We were too full for dessert despite being ravenous when we arrived.
Meal was complemented by a nice dry rosé.
Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.
A Starr Performance
We had not been to The Starr since a change of ownership some time ago and were slightly wary as it had been our favourite restaurant.
We were absolutely delighted to find that the highest of standards were maintained, we had a fantastic meal with great service.
We had a perfect lunch here to celebrate my father very special birthday, 80. The food was great, and the choice for a lunch menu was still wide. The service was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely go back again.
We loved everything about this restaurant. The food is expensive, yes, but it is worth every penny. You get what you pay for. Staff were well informed about the food and were helpful and friendly. Can't wait to return to try out the other menu options.
Beautiful presentation of meals that are perfectly cooked. Glass never gets empty, timeously topped up. Friendly and very well trained staff.
This is a choice venue at which I had some of the best food I have ever tasted. Well presented and accompanied by some very good service. The only negative I would say is attributed to a slight whiff of snobery on some other people using the starr.
Delightful meal on Saturday-
Delightful meal on Saturday- staff were very attentive and fully aware and prepared that one of our party was "gluten free", offering a range of dishes for the individual concerned. A restaurant to retutrn to.
New owners a bonus
At the Starr for Valentines night. After a slow start the food, ambience and service were excellent. Very pleasant chatting with the new(ish) owner. Excellent choice of wines on the "wine flight" and overall a good night out. Seemed to be significantly better value than our last visit and we shall certainly return for their standard menu. In common with many restaurants the service was plagued by staff giving an instruction to "enjoy" - but it was well meant.
Overall evening very good, well worth a visit, would thoroughly recommend
I took my mum here for lunch on Saturday after receiving a recommendation from Top Table.
It was superb, the venue, the staff and the food were all fantastic and I would definitely suggest it to anyone looking for a great meal at not extortionate prices
Very quiet when we were there but welcome and service excellent and quietly friendly. Food beautifully cooked and presented (though a couple of items were not quite as tasty as we would have liked), mostly extremely good. Not cheap but not overly expensive for the quality. Staff were great. Will go again.
Our first time...but not our last.
Having never dined at The Starr we were looking forward to a lovely meal as the menu looked great. On arrival we were invited to have a drink in the bar where my wife had a Bloody Mary (one of the best she's ever tasted) and we had canapes.
The owner was very nice and talked us through the drinks/wine list and then the menu. The food was absolutely superb and the service was attentive but not intrusive.
I would recommend the Dedham Vale Fillet Steak, cooked to perfection, It just melts in the mouth. My wife said the Turbot was superb and the desserts (Chocolate Fondant & Lemon Panna Cotta) were just as good and perfectly portioned.
All in all a very nice evening with a nice atmosphere, we will return again soon.
Went for my girlfriends birthday and had a great night. Certainly not a place to visit for a bargain but you get what you pay for and we certainly got great quality food! I will definitely be looking to visit again in the future
Fantastic food, staff were lovely polite and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend!!
We went for my partner's birthday
We went for my partner's birthday and had the Sunday lunch. Food was lovely and the service was very good. Would definitely go back.
An enjoyable evening
We enjoyed a birthday celebration at the restaurant. No downsides to the evening at all. We shall definitely be returning.
This has to be one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. The food was excellent, the cocktails were fabulous.
The service was attentive without being overbearing. The staff were experienced from the maitre de to the waiters and bar staff. Made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in to the unhurried moment we left. I will love to go there again.
A Special Night out
Excellent Service, excellent food and drink. A special treat.
Great food, great service and value
This was an anniversary dinner for two, midweek. The restaurant was quiet but not too quiet. The food was excellent as if always is. We came here a few times before the change of management and it still is first class dining.
What surprised us most was the bill, just good value for a really good three course food!!
Enjoyed our evening here celebrating a birthday. Food and wine very good, served by welcoming , friendly and efficient staff.
Excellent food and service:
Excellent food and service: this was a special occasion and the restaurant lived up fully to our expectations.
Lost and found
I hadn't been to this restaurant for many years because, basically, it wasn't very good. Under this new ownership it has been transformed in terms of food, service and ambience. It was all very enjoyable. It had the atmosphere of a top class restaurant, whilst remaining friendly and welcoming. The menu was interesting, with unusual elements, without veering off into the realms of unappetising wackiness! I am really glad that I have re-found this restaurant....it's a gem.
A cracking meal.
Went for a meal here with my wife to celebrate my birthday after recommendations from friends. We stayed in the adjoining hotel. Absolutely top class food and service. After a glass of champagne in the bar we chose our food and were taken to our table. We both had the scallop starter. I had the fillet steak and my wife had partridge. Both were cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Cotes du Beaune. Creme brûlée and melting chocolate pudding to finish. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be going back in the very near future.
