To my taste we were served perfect food at Sumosan. Everything was fresh, well cooked and nicely presented. I'd especially recommend sashimi (we had crab, tuna, salmon and smoked eel - all super tasty), kaiso, lobter salads, salmon tepanyaki. I look forward to coming back for nigiri and tempura!
First time ... of many
Our first visit to Sumosan and a special one for my daughter's 18th birthday. We were all impressed with the quality of the food and will definitely be back.
An old time classic place, food always excellent and very good service. I love their lunch boxes.
Really really good experience. It was truly Excellent
Good Japanese but pricey
The food is good, the decor is corporate and service is ok. I wish the atmosphere and service would be better to justify the rather high prices.
From a regular
Never fails to disappoint. Slightly incompetent waitress but made up for it with extra attentive manager
Trendy Japanese Joint
Sumosan is a great trendy Japanese place ideal for a romantic meal or dinner with friends.
excellent cuisine-bland room
excellent staff, service, delicious inventive authentic dishes. full of flavour. the lamb chop dish was outstanding, as was the steak fillet which was amazing. cocktails are good, the only thing lacking at this restaurant is the ambiance- its more bland than zen. the manager assures me he has big plans for the 'look' of sumosan- i hope so. it needs to match the quality of service, clientele and food. currently it's dull and bland and practically non existent decor- i really hope this changes as i want to go back and feel like i'm surrounded in luxury and cool, minimalist chic, as it would suit it perfectly. definitely go.
Tasty and Delightful
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Sumosan. The food was delicious, the service excellent and the ambiance beautiful.
Great food, quick service
Last time I went was on a Tuesday night with a friend. The place was packed and it was hard to hear what my friend was saying across the table, but the food and service are so consistently great that I would certainly recommend it and I think it only starts getting really busy after 8-8.30 pm.
I have a soft spot for the sea weed salad with peanut sauce, prawn tempura and philadelphia-solomon and spicy tuna hand rolls. My friend also likes the solomon pizza and always asks for a second portion of the cocktail sauce that usually comes with the prawns to accompany the pizza...
Already looking forward to my next visit.
Great for a dinner with girlfriends
Had a perfect dinner here with girlfriends-- service was speedly, food was delicious, portion sizes were just right. highly recommended!
Lunch with a business partner
I come here on a regular basis. As always, the whole experience was excellent from top to bottom. The food is flawless. The service is excellent from the minute you walk in the door. Yes its expensive but you get what you pay for. So its not bad value at all.
Excellent as Usual
Another great meal. Sushi is excellent. One of the best Japanese Restaurants in London.
Compared to the conveyor belt option, this was a revelation. Obvioulsy not a cheap restaurant my rose champagne was £89 per bottle but very nice. All round great place
Classy, good food, well presented. Definitely to be recommended.
I have eaten in Sumosan a
I have eaten in Sumosan a number of times. I am a huge fan of the lobster salad, the sashimi and the rock shrimp tempura. This was the first time I left disappointed. The service was too fast, with all courses arriving together. The rock shrimp tempura was not nice, cold and not as light as in the past. The Japanese salad was excellent.
Business Lunch at Sumosan
Food was outstanding as always. Service is no frills but very reliable.
Food to die for
This restaurant just oozes class. The food was out of this world honestly we had the black cod, duck and beef and shared the dishes together with some rice. The cod was nothing like I've ever tasted it just melted in your mouth. I will be returning to this restaurant again, just lovely.

"I love the relaxed feel of this place - perfect for a business lunch and not too noisy. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly."
The Good, the bad and the very slow
Special occasion, my wife's birthday. We were told we had 2 hours for our booking, would that be ok? Turns out I should have been asking them if that would be ok, since it was their service that put us just over the 2 hour mark.
On the whole, a great place, but a few things spoiled it. The service was slow, a very long wait for our main courses, and periods with empty wine glasses - if you are going to take the bottle away from us, make sure you keep us topped up!
The food, most of it was excellent, one of the best black cod miso i've had. However...
My wife chose the 40 quid wagu. It was the chewy-ist steak i've had in a long time.
The tempura 'prawn and vegetables' should be taken literally, ONE prawn.
So, mixed feelings really.
Best sushi in London
I always come back to this place for the sushi, other options on the menu are also great and the white and dark chocolate fondant for dessert is a must to top your meal at Sumosan! The ambience here is always nice, I've always come on a weekend and am sure it is just as worth going to on a weekday also. Prices are ok for a high end restaurant like this. I was here last night for my birthday with my friend, and what we found funny was that a the service tip (around 13%) was automatically added to the subtotal amount, even though it was labeled as 'optional service'. Upon merely asking the waitress about this, a rather stuck up response was given back to us: "Was there something you did not like about the service tonight?"
Excellent food and good service.
Excellent food and good service. Probably a desired destination for the younger generation. As oldies, we didn't like the ambience and the music too much, but the place is clearly popular with a younger set.
food is amazing. i would go there just for the artichoke and lobster truffle salad. unreal.
i feel home there i love the food the place and the staff are very friendly
Yummy Sushi and Desserts!
Loved most of the sushi and shasimi I had. The spicy edamame and tempura were also tasty. I enjoyed their wagyu beef and soft crab very much and the fondant was amazing!!
Excellent as usual. Would recommend as the best Japanese in London.
Very nice and smiley staff;
Very nice and smiley staff; great and sexy ambience and a great location....Killer passion fruity cocktail. As for the food, can't say that I was disappointed; all dishes were quite yummy (not mind-blowing...) although I thought the sushi could've been better. Try the tuna/truffle combo dishes - will not disappoint - as well as the black cod.
Love it !
We come here all the time and we absolutely love it! No matter what day of the week it is sumosan always has a nice crowd and a good vibe. Everything tastes amazing and the service is very attentive. One of our London favourites. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful Japanese food
Went there with two other friends last Friday. The food was delicious, with a bit of fusion of the west, some of the dishes like sea urchin risotto was really amazing! The waitress was very well mannered, which made the dining experience more enjoyable. All in all, would love to visit it again!
Delightful as always. Highly recommend the Albermarle Roll and the Green Seaweed Salad
gOOD FOOD, BUT EXPENSIVE
We thought the food was very good, but i was somewhat pricey for what it was
Very good but lacked atmosphere
I cannot fault the food or the service in this excellent Japanese eatery. However it did feel a little lacking in atmosphere. We went with my adult children to celebrate my son's birthday. We were a little early but seated immediately. There was no evidence of the opportunity to spend time in a bar area - although the bar below ground was discovered later.
Food was really excelllent but portions are not large.
Overall it was somewhat pricy £250 for 5 people, with a couple of cocktails but no wine, but all in all I suppose that you get what you pay for - and the food is excellent!
Don't miss the Lobster Salad!
Great restaurant with an elegant menu. Our waiter did recommended us great dishes and we weren't disappointed. 3 dishes are not to be missed as the t&t sushi, the lobster salad and the Chocolate fondant as dessert.
Great food but turn down the music!
Lovely dinner as ever, but spoiled a little by the slow service and loudish music. Perhaps I am just too old but I had a hard time hearing my dinner companions. On the plus side, the fish is always superb and for the first time I had the dark and white chocolate fondant which was absolutely amazing! Will miss Sumosan when I am away but will be back as soon as I can!
Great place. You feel very
Great place. You feel very welcome arriving and there is a good ambience in the room. Pleasant service staff and a great sommelier.
Excellent food and a great wine list. i recommend this restaurant for business dinners, dinners with a groupo of friends (so you can taste many dishes) or a romantic dinner with your loved one.
Excellent food experience.
Great variety of sushi rolls and main courses. Very nice environment and friendly staff.
Highlights: black cod with miso and dark and white chocolate fondant!
