L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon restaurant in London’s West Street near Covent Garden is one hot dining experience. From the stable of Joel Robuchon, holder of 26 Michelin stars, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon brings stunning Spanish and Japanese-inflected French cooking to the capital. The ground floor L’Atelier, chic red and black minimalism, is where you perch on high stools and admire the chefs in the theatre kitchen cooking tiny, beautiful dishes of intense flavour, served sushi-style. The first floor La Cuisine offers equally marvellous cooking in a bright, monochrome space with traditional seating. Dishes include divine pig trotter on parmesan toast, mini burger with beef and foie gras, mackerel on thin tart with Parmesan shavings and olives, and magical puddings like chartreuse soufflé. The wines are of the highest order, as is the service. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon is celeb central and foodie heaven all in one terrific West End location. Continued

  • "Normally we order the taster menu, which the kitchen churns out within an hour. Poor service tonight ruined the entire experience - our waiter told us that women (I was with my daughter) cannot manage the 8-course menu and should take the 5-course. When he found out we had a time limit (90min), he refused to allow us to order the 8 courses and coerced us into ordering the lesser! Usually, waiters ensure dishes arrive promptly; tonight, our waiter was most unhelpful and we waited a long time between each course. We were hungry enough to add 2 extra dishes from the grudging waiter, and we finished the 7 courses on time, albeit at a higher cost than the 8-course taster menu! The food, as always, was excellent, which made the evening bearable."

  • "A seat at the bar is less than ideal as you can not face your companion and the service, while always friendly and willing, is a little awkward when coming across the bar to the counter below on the diner's side. That said, the food was rather good considering it was a fixed price pre theatre menu. Never thought I would find a fried egg so enjoyable! The wine pairings were so-so but kept things interesting. The room is dark and mysterious and the location hard to beat. Will return at some point."

  • "I haven't visited here for a while, why not !!! great food, fabulous combinations, wine to match and the only problem is you can spend a fortune if you want to. Sat at the bar and watched everyone working,started with champagne and delightful breads, plumped for the 5 course gastronomic menu with paired wines. A good choice as the full option list makes choosing hard. Salmon, asparagus, black cod, pork, partridge, all well cooked, visual presentations were spot on, flavours exceptional, added a balanced cheese course and finished with pineapple four ways. Not forgetting the signature mash with the main course, what a delightful time we had. Add in friendly staff, an old friend from Florence as Maitre Di and it was as good as it gets."

  • "We had not been there before and went post-theater, after a ballet on Friday night. Would recommend the small tasting dishes with a bottle of wine. This enables to taste many different dishes across the meat, seafood and vegetarian varieties and they were all delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Price is up there but that goes with the Michelin stars!"

  • "We've wanted to try here since we saw it on Masterchef a while ago, and our 9th anniversary seemed befitting. The atmosphere was chilled but still busy on a Tues night. We decided to go with 3 small tasting menu each & dessert. We also had champagne at the beginning, not sure what brand but it was a brut, smooth and tasty. We were given a frothy foie gras "shot", complimentary, and very VERY strong. Our choices were varied, but the highlight was the Langoustine ravioli (absolutely divine). Desserts were stunning visually, Mont Blanc chestnut mousse was just amazing. Alex, who was serving was lovely, but so were all the servers/chefs, laid back & approachable unlike some French restaurants. You pay the price but it's worth it!"

In my opinion, they deserve at LEAST 2 When I went with a group of 3 friends, this place blew my socks off - we always wondered what the difference between places with 1 Michelin star and 2/3 were - and we found out ... Oh my God - the tasting menu is absolutely sublime and have already booked to take a friend there to do the whole thing again - yay !"

The staff are great, very friendly, helpful and indeed entertaining. It's an open kitchen so you can see the food being cooked which is good fun.   • "We went for a family celebration on a Friday lunchtime in the first floor restaurant and had the set lunch with wine pairings. Every dish was beautifully judged in flavour and in presentation, and the sommelier was fantastic in his wines paired with each dish had. When my daughter explained that she would prefer red win with her cheese course, rather than the white he presented, he simply brought an extra half glass with his choice of red. At the end, we all agreed that the meal was one of the best we had ever had. Simply fabulous - not cheap, but good value for a michelin star and the experience."

  • "We booked a pre-theatre dinner at L'Atelier to sustain us between art gallery and play and it was a veritable treat. Being oldies we didn't go much for the dark red and black decor in the bar and restaurant but everything else was a delight. The young staff at reception, in the Saloon bar and especially at the dining bar overlooking the kitchen where we were seated were friendly, knowledgeable and charming in the way they guided us through the value menu and wines. All dishes were inventive and beautifully presented from the small rich amuse-bouche to my wife's exquisite dessert: there is a limit to what you can do with a cheese plate that I chose but that slipped down beautifully with the recommended Banyuls wine!"

  • "We were recommended to try this Restaurant but made the mistake of not sticking to the pre or post theatre menu. We ran up an extraordinary bill for a small but tasty meal. No prices on the menu should have been a clue. A reasonable bottle of wine for £84 we felt was over the top even for the West End. Once the meal order was over we were virtually ignored and they forgot to serve desert! There are plenty of other places with better value for money."

They made a special effort as it was my husbands birthday and produced a little cake and candle for him at the end of our meal, which I hadn't asked for but was such a nice touch. Highly recommend."

  • "It was the first time we went to this michelin 2-star restaurant for dinner. the service at door was nice and they showed warm welcome. We sat at the bar table, a bit crowded and uncomfortable, altho I have left a request for quiet corner. We sat for a long while, but no one gave us the menu until we asked for it. probably, she was too busy to serve the customers next to us, who turned up later than us. she juz gave the menu to us without explanation. Food was nice, but no "wow" effect. I like the small tasting dishes. the portion is good for asian girl like me. I ordered two small dishes as starter, a main course and dessert. afterall, I don't think the service and ambience worths any star, but thanks for the food."
