Pushkar is a gourmet Indian restaurant that has generated significant buzz and rave reviews from Brummie foodies. Part fine dining room, part cocktail lounge, the space is a cream and lemon affair with starched linens and a cosmopolitan vibe. Perfect for cocktails and platter-sharing, Pushkar also has a sexy a la carte menu and chef Bishal Rasaily – who has worked everywhere from the Taj Sheraton in Mumbai to the acclaimed Chutney Mary's in London - has a flair for creating fresh, modern and healthy dishes. The bar serves everything from bespoke Bellinis to Lassis, and favourite dishes include the Goan fish curry cooked with coriander seeds, chillies and coconut cream.

Diner Reviews
  • "This is not a standard curry house - it is very much upmarket and it shows in the presentation and service. Thankfully the food is a match. In particular we loved the starters - we shared three seafood starters and they were all wonderful. The Garam Masala Creme Brulee is to die for!"

  • "We ate at Pushkars on two nights running while at the BSAVA congress in Birmingham. Have been in previous years and found it amazing - food is wonderul, perfectly cooked and so tasty. Service and staff brilliant and the cocktails are to die for - Jazz Flutes all round went down a bomb! Can't wait to go there again whenever I'm in Birmingham. Highly recommended and a lovely place to take friends and business associates for something different and quite exceptional. This is NOT your average high street Indian, it's much, much more than that ! If you get a chance go there......."

  • "Well, I'm not sure where to start! Everything from the moment we arrived was just perfect. The food was an extremely high standard - the best Indian meal I have ever had (and I have had a lot). The service was impeccable and really made for a truly unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant is spotless & beautifully decorated. The cocktails are to die for! I have never been somewhere where I can enjoy an Indian meal with a cocktail - my 2 favourite things! Thankyou to everyone for making my friends birthday night out simply perfect..."

  • "Went to Pushkar on an internet recommendation as myself and my boyfriend were not from the area so weren't sure on the best places to eat. On arrival we were seated at the bar for a drink as table was being set, I had a cocktail which was made right in front of me, brilliant! Service to the table and throughout the meal was outstanding!!! Meal itself was delicious and prompt in coming out. As I was out for a meal for my birthday the restaurant brought out a slice of chocolate cake with a candle in it which was a lovely touch. Overall I was very very impressed with the whole dining experience. The manager also came over personally to check if our meal was alright, which was a lovely thing."

  • "They know how to do it well. Great cocktails, attentive but not intrusive service, atmospheric and the food is consistently good. Prices are reasonable and high enough to keep it special."

  • "First time that we had been here and it will not be the last (although we live 150 miles away). Fantastic cocktails, excellent service and attention from staff, superb quality food with a varied menu choice. Would definitely recommend to anyone that would like something different from an Indian restaurant."

  • "Went to Pushkar after a days shopping in Birmingham. Food was great. Menu was small, but lot of stuff that I'd never seen from other curry houses, and the food looked and more importantly tasted great. Staff were really good. Helpful, and attentive, but knew when to leave us alone to enjoy our meal. Will definitely be going back."

  • "I are there on Saturday night at the 9pm sitting. We had a cocktail at the bar first (they are great and have an interesting and different selection). No one came to seat us so we had to ask to be seated. After that, service was incredibly slow. It was 11pm by the time we got our main course! The food was very tasty but the experience was let down by the overall service. The staff all seemed very young and in inexperienced. There appeared to be no coordination. Our waiter was good, friendly and knew the menu well but we asked another waitress and she had no idea what we were enquiring about on the menu. The waiter did apologise for the delays and offered us a free cocktail. I would not go again to eat there, only for a pre-dinner cocktail."

  • "Another great meal at Pushkar. However it seems there was an unexpected rush on this particular Saturday and service dropped as a result - there was a lot of confusion, delays in drinks and food orders. I asked to change table (note - please don't put tables right in front of the door on a cold night!!) and whilst we were able to move, it was clear from the person we asked, that they were not happy about this. Infact, the lady was quite rude and dismissive - it was clear the stress of it being so busy was creating tension. This aside the food was great and the service from the waiting staff superb. I would certainly return."

  • "The food is good although a bit expensive from the normal Indian restaurant but that's fine since I'm expecting it. But The table me and my 2 friends where sitted was on the boxed corner near the door of the kitchen and the corridor leading to the toilet.I have to stand up whenever my other friend has to go out to the ladies. This would be alright if the restaurant is full at the time but we're one of the earliest patron and there are plenty of tables around. It's one of the worst sitting arrangement I had. Knowing for a fact most restaurants seats their worst customer near the kitchen/thoroughfare to the toilet, I felt belittled and was ashamed I brought my friends there. I think I chose an incorrect restaurant to celebrate my birthday."

  • "We made a reservation for lunch at 2pm. Turned up from London only to be told that our booking was a mistake and the kitchen was now closed. The gentleman who welcomed us at the door accused us of not answering the phone at 8am that same morning to cancel the booking. considering I had made an effort to book in advance I'd expect to be informed in advance of any changes. A wasted trip and appalled by the customer service."

  • "We had seen in the Birmingham Evening Mail last year that the resturant was in the top ten list of curry houses in the West Midlands. We went hoping the review was right. Well it wasn't - it was even better than reported. The service was excellent. I loved the menu boxes. The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. All in all I would highly recommend this resturant."

  • "This is a fantastic restaurant where the food and service are exceptional but there is a downside. As it so large and very stark the sound is not absorbed by anything and it is hard to hear each other on a busy Saturday night. I am sure at other times it may be better but my husband and I always go when we visit our son at Birmingham University over the weekend. Please do NOT let this put you off though as the service and food are out of this world and if you love your food then this is the place to go. It is certainly value for money for the quality you get.Noisy or not we will be there again when we next go to Birmingham. It is addictive!"

  • "Booked this restaurant for a family birthday meal. Pushkar's were very accommodating from the offset - accepted the cake and followed the instructions given as well as being understanding and flexible around my schedule. Seated in the VIP room - HIGHLY recommend this room for large group bookings - makes the experience even more memorable. Food was spot on - starters and main courses - all hot and delicious, with a variety of textures and tastes to accommodate for all. Both the wines and cocktails served were also enjoyable. Service was absolutely on point throughout the evening. Would definitely make a return trip. Thank you!"

  • "Visited Pushkar every time we travel to Birmingham as it has to best the best place for Indian food in my opinion. The food is simply fantastic, great flavour good quality ingredients and offers different dishes than the usual Indian. Presentation of the dishes is lovely and all of the staff are polite and can not do enough for you. Also have a great range for veggies"

  • "First visit here - tables a little close together & only just big enough for two, but beautifully presented. Service attentive but not obtrusive. Lovely meal (poppadoms, dips, crab cakes, lamb curries, pilau rice, raita, wine, coffees), a little expensive but we knew to expect that, and worth it as a treat. Would recommend & return."

  • "We have been to Pushkars a few times now, and always find the starters excellent - especially the mixed tandoori platter. I've always been a little less impressed with the mains - especially if you stray from the Punjabi fare - but still better than your usual Balti experience! The waiting staff made a nice fuss over my mum (it was her birthday) and brought her a slice of cake with a candle. It is a little pricier than most curry houses but i guess you are paying for the location."

  • "This was our third visit to Pushkars. As ever, the greeting was warm and we were seated in the recently extended area of the restaurant, which had a feel of being a 'work in progress' and as such, lost some of it's intimacy compared to the main area. The service cannot be faulted; the waiting staff were attentive and showed genuine desire to look after the diners. The food was great, we had crabcakes (not quite as good as I remembered) and the lamb chops to start (best dish of the meal) and followed this up with Goan Fish Curry and Punjabi Nalli Gohst (lamb shank in rich gravy) and washed this down with a pleasant Sauvignon Blanc. On the whole an enjoyable evening, although not quite up to the high level of expectation we put upon it."

  • "The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated very quickly, I specifically asked for a free table close to the bar and my request was upheld. The staff were friendly and efficient and very accommodating, we didnt have a long wait for food considering they were busy, when the food came the portions were generous. we both had lamb dishes and it was gorgeous, the lamb totally melted in your mouth. We were very pleased with our visit to Pushkar's and will highly recommend it to friends and family. We will definately visit again."

  • "The food as always was excellent. Having had a lamb starter, I went for a chicken main. However I was brought another lamb dish and as the waiter made no attempt to take back my wife's fish dish whilst my chicken was sorted, I politely accepted the lamb. I must point out that it was very enjoyable though. Following the main course, I was told that my first choice of dessert was no longer available which was a little disappointing. When the bill arrived, I did notice that it listed one fish and one chicken main at least confirming that I had ordered correctly. The above is a small complaint on what was a lovely meal on a very busy evening (Valentines) for the restaurant."

  • "We booked for Valentines, it was brilliant, the staff as usual were very friendly with just the right amount of attention, the food was excellent and very tasty and the setting was great and relaxed. Look forward to going again."

  • "Very busy (feb 14th) but food and service was top quality. Wasn't too happy with them keeping my credit card while drinking at the bar. But I understand the reason"
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "I've been here before and enjoyed it, but the bland valentines menu and reluctance to adapt to personal requests whatsoever will sadly prevent me from returning. Also, do not like the fish floor in the entrance which makes the restaraunt seem cheaper than it is."

  • "Nice plush surroundings and good service with plenty of staff and smiling faces. However, the bottom line with any restaurant is the quality of the good. Our starter was OK but lacking a bit in spice and flavour. Mains were a disappointment. A real test for a curry house is the quality of lamb dishes. Our lamb roghan ghosh had an undesirable smell/after taste despite good texture. We have been to many other restaurants where all you tasted was the meat. The chicken jalfrezi was lacking in flavour. Dessert was nice. Beers and wine also fine, but you can get these in other restaurants. We will be going elsewhere, like some of the excellent restaurants in Hagley Road and smaller streets. It really does pay to go a bit out of town."

  • "The fixed price lunch menu at Pushkar is excellent ranging from light and aromatic to hot and spicy, with a good range of vegetarian and non vegetarian. The quality was superb and the portions generous for the price. I was able to pre-order menu choices over the telephone in advance to speed things up. Regrettably we still had to wait 20 minutes for the first course and we were seated in a tiny annexe room that was so small the table barely fitted into it and it was only possible to range people down one side of the table. The main restaurant space, bright and airy, was almost empty. I would definitely go to Pushakar again if I was not in a hurry but next time I would insist on being seated in the main restaurant."

  • "My wife and me were celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary and waiter surprised us with a cake at the end. It was a fitting touch to a perfect evening. The vegetarian option was fabulous, full of spice and flavour and the portion sizes were more than enough for 2 people. We were well looked after from the moment we came in and when we were about to leave."

  • "Clean sophisticated decor, service was friendly, helpful advice on menu. Food was very good balance flavour & spices. Crab cake masala was beautiful with a rich spicy paste on side."

We have never had a bad experience at this restaurant and welcome friends visiting so we can take them there to enjoy the experience. Congratulations on winning the Best of Broad Street Award - well deserved! See you again sometime soon."

  • "Pushkar restaurant has never once failed to delight. In fact it delights more everytime my wife and I visit. From the delightful bar to the top notch curries Pushkar is fit for foodies and cocktails buffs alike. As a vegetarian diner the vegetarian options at Pushkar are well recomended, a good choice and well made. When the food is of such outstanding consistent quality and the service is of the same high standard then a superb evening will always happen. Pushkar prides itself on both counts and is a superb dining choice."

Excellent service, very polite staff and they go out their way to make the experience a good one. Food quality is very good and very well presented."
