Diner Reviews
  • "Went to Provender for dinner on Saturday 12 April 2014. Very good meal. Had the Pruneaux D'Agen a L'Armagnac for dessert, which was delicious. Great table by the window with plenty of room and lovely ambience."

  • "I have been to Provender on a regular basis since it opened. The food is excellent, the menu changes seasonally, the menu prix fixe is of a standard and value unsurpassed. Best snails in London owing much to the liberal use of herbs. The wine list is excellent from entry level to fine wines. The service is excellent and friendly. You are never rushed and a leisurely lunch time is assured. However I have felt when arriving I have always left feeling better!"

  • "Another lovely meal at Provender. We are really lucky to have such an excellent restaurant near our house. The food is always excellent as is the choice of wine. The service is attentive without being overbearing. We will return."

  • "I always enjoy Provender, a taste of France in Wanstead. This time I thought the menu had developed and become even more tempting. It was very well executed. Highly recommended!"

  • "Provender is different to the other Restaurants in Wanstead and South Woodford. It has a friendly environment supported by an extensive menu with prices catering for all customers. The food I have experienced with guests has been most agreeable and cooked to one's own particular requirement. It is relaxed dining with friendly and efficient staff. I like it!!"

  • "Lively atmosphere and great food. Service suffered a bit on a packed Saturday but the food was good enough to overlook it."

  • "Great food, great atmosphere, great service. It's a bit small inside so you might sit uncomfortable close next to a stranger- everything else is extraordinary."

  • "This was a meal for a special occasion and was booked through Top Table. The information was not passed on and therefore what should have been a celebration was very ordinary."

  • "Last went to this restaurant when it was called Seasons and it seemed to be struggling. Now under new management and what a change. Lighting, ambience, seating all good. Food was excellent and menu just that little bit different from the norm to be really interesting. Service was also good and there was a good choice of wine. Also no irritating Friday night musical turn which seems to be prevalent now in a lot of local restaurants in the Loughton/Buckhurst Hill area - a refreshing change. We could actually speak to each other without shouting. Have just booked again."

  • "We really enjoyed our evening - lots of friendly, helpful staff, and a good atmosphere. It is the restaurant we would like in our own High Street: tasty food, that is a bit different, at a reasonable price. 3 vegetarian main choices all looked interesting and not the obvious (unheard of in a French restaurant in France!) - the artichoke and truffle oil risotto was delicious - though the portion was small. Tasting so good I could have done with more. My husband's steak frites was also excellent. Red house wine, was well-priced and tasty. Good to see quite a few wines sold by the glass or carafe. Dessert menu is classic french and very well priced -creme caramel for him, blackcurrant and raspberry sorbets for me - fab -best I've had for ages."

  • "Lunch for four of us on Friday 21 February. Once again, very, very good. We went for the Prix Fixe menu so two courses for all four of us came to less than £50 in total. Very decent wine for £23 a bottle. The quality of the food was excellent. Everything comes to the table freshly prepared. The staff are always friendly, attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend."

  • "Had a mid week meal out with my husband and had a very pleasant time. Nicely spaced out tables for couples and a romantic atmosphere. Its a foodies delight restaurant with a good varied choice. My husband opted for the set 3 course week-day menu for around £15, great value for money. The staff were very friendly and unpretentious. We didn't fancy a whole bottle of wine, so tried a small carafe of the house white, which was surprisingly very good. We had a bottle of mineral water but they seemed more than happy to serve a jug of iced tap water, which most tables had."

  • "Came for a Christmas Group Meal and the Service, Food and Atmosphere was great. Would definitely return. Hard to find such top notch local restaurants."

  • "Taken by my wife for an anniversary meal. It was my first visit , but she had been before. The whole experience was great. The ambience is not offer fussy, and the guys and girls working there made us really welcome. The food was as good as I have had in any French restaurant in the UK, and better than many that I've had in France. Mine host, Max Renzland has added a bit of magic to the area with this offering, and I hope to enjoy many more meals here in the future"

  • "This restaurant never disappoints and we cannot wait to go back. We made the journey from Suffolk to celebrate a birthday. The two of us shared a generous and extremely delicious fish platter to start, followed by a very tender steak brioche and the house burger, accompanied by an exquisite bottle of red wine. Lunch was long and leisurely and the service attentive and friendly. Looking forward to our next visit as soon as we can find an excuse to go again."

  • "We had a very relaxing lunch. The food was good, though my hubby said the chicken tagine needed to have bit more of a kick. I'm a vegetarian and they had some lovely choices. I had the Shasuska and that was real good. I reccommend the vanilla and hazelnut knickerbocker glory."

  • "We had brunch which was fabulous. We didn't need to eat again all day! The Croques are perfection - very rich. The Full English has a French twist and is served with delicious sourdough bread. Lots of options on the menu including a north african baked eggs. Highly recommended."

  • "Rustic, simple (apart from the desserts), and amazing flavours. Was extremely busy but very good service. Not cheap (average £15 main course) but certainly not expensive. Would expect to pay more for such good food really. Definitely going back!"

  • "I booked this for my husband's bday. We had the 3 course set lunch which was great value for money. It had a great choice and I chose a dessert from the main menu which hardly altered the price. The wine was reasonably priced and a good selection. The service was great - attentive without being too much. A nice touch was a candle in my husbands dessert. We will definitely be back!"

  • "My friend wanted to go out for a meal for my 50th, we sat down together and went through the listing for eateries in Wanstead saw the menu for Provender and ponderd over it for a while and decided why not. It turned to be a good choice, the food was excellent the staff were patient and attentive. When taking the orders we were advised of what wasn't available on the day. There were six of us and everyone enjoyed thier courses."

  • "Booked for a Friday night for my husband and I's anniversary. Nice varied options on the menu, we actually both chose the same starter (garlic butter snails, delicious!) and main meal, so we'll have to come back to taste more of the menu as the duck breast was succulent!!! The wine was good, not cheap but not overpriced (there is also a fine wine menu for those with a larger budget). The owner was mostly in the restaurant, talking to customers, serving, clearing generally paying excellent attention to everyone. We were offered a glass of bubbly with dessert, nice gesture. All in all an excellent experience, we will definitely go back again!"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Provender. Will definitely come back again. Had the fixed price menu which was very reasonable, which with a glass of wine came to approximately £30 each. Had fabulous goose and duck starter, then steak frites, drenched in a rich gravy/sauce with bread and butter pudding dessert. My dining partner who is often drawn to the vegetarian options was delighted by her oeufs mayonnaise, cheese sorbet and bb pudding. The wine was good although due to it being a work night I wasn't able to really sample their options - maybe next time."

  • "This really is a little East End Gem. We visited as we often do on Sunday and their range of Sunday Roasts as always was perfect. English Sunday Roast cooked to perfection with French skill and aplomb. The restaurant is usually very busy, (a good sign) so do book. A range of French and English dishes all presented simply but very well with a high degree of skill shown by the chef. The puddings are a delight too. Beautifully home made meringues to die for.The service is always friendly relaxed and informal but sensitive to the needs of the diner. There is a lovely buzz of excitement and pleasure in the restaurant as the wide range of people who visit enjoy their excellent food and the convivial atmosphere. Do go."
