Christoph and his team set up 2 tables at the back of the restaurant in the raised area which was perfect. We had agreed a 3 course menu in advance and Christoph managed to get all the dishes out to the right people with effortless efficiency- even when we switched round between courses!

The cote de boeuf and our veg selection were all perfectly cooked, although the cut of beef was so large it could easily have fed three!
The wine recommended by the waiter was particularly good and cheaper than the wine we initially selected.

The restaurant was beautifully lit as we were ushered to our table through the busy but spacious lower front area. We were sat on comfy sofa-type seats in a secluded corner which was perfect for out type of occasion. The manager soon introduced himself and we chose our wine for the evening before he knowledgeably informed us of the special, the sense of pride he takes in his food and where it is sourced was obvious.
The meal was fabulous, a selection of meats and leek and ham soup to start, chicken and duck breast for main and the trifle to finish! Everything the rave review we read beforehand proved true, what a precious gem on the High Street. The staff were very welcoming and the owner came out to speak to us, which is always a nice touch. The restaurant is a much welcomed addition to Wanstead and provides the missing restaurant we were looking for in the area. Everyone really enjoyed the food and felt there was an excellent selection. One tiny issue was my dessert - I had the pavlova which I have had on a previous occasion when it was delicious with a very light, delicate meringue.This time - whilst OK - the fruit was not as good and the meringue was quite hard and pretty chewy. There was a choice of 3 or 4 dishes for each course and everyone was delighted with the quality of their dishes, particularly the whiting main course. I doubt I will ever cook a Sunday lunch again when we have Provender up the road. The goose fat roast potatoes,
the crunchy tasty vegetables and fantastic gravy are a real credit to the chef. We eat out about 4 or 5 times a week
always trying different new places but PROVENDER will be one of the only ones we will keep going back to.
Don't get me started on the deserts or cheese all sublime.

The food was beautifully prepared (in particular, the starter of quail eggs and mushrooms both looked and tasted great) and the roast duck breast was a big hit for our mains. The wine list is varied and reasonable in price, and also includes a selection of 500ml carafes, which is a great option that I wish more restaurants offered. The service is good, and authentically French, and the staff have a good sense of humour and genuinely seem very happy to work there. The food is just lovely and the coffee is excellent. The only thing I would recommend they change is the bathrooms. Neither of the locks in the women's toilet actually lock, the toilet seats are wonky and it's cold! But they are clean, which is the main thing.

Apart from the standard Sunday roast there is a good selection on the normal menu. I would definitely reccomend the butternut soup to start and the blackcurrent sorbet with Cassis as dessert. My main was not actually on the menu and although it was nice it was not as special as other dishes I have eaten at Provender. I had cod thermidor for my main and it was mainly muscles with a little cod in a heavy cream sauce.05/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent restaurant!We only first visited this restaurant last summer (the last restaurant on the site being fairly average) and have since been going around once a month. Everything about it is excellent with the stand out thing being the set menu of around £11 for two courses or £14 for three, which they do all the time except at the evening on the weekend. Also they now open all day on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday, which is useful for us as we like our late lunches! We used to like Hadley House in Wanstead (mainly for lunch), which closed a couple of years ago but this place is better as the food is consistently very good as is the warm and friendly service. Portion sizes are more than generous and well priced. No one was disappointed with their choices, which were very well presented. The level of service was fantastic, even more so as it was New Years Day! First time to this restaurant so slightly worried but there was no need. The selection of bites to start with were beautifully presented and quality ingredients shone. All guests were satisified with their mains. The mussels and the duck cassolet were both big hits. The desserts were huge and a bit too sweet even for my sweet tooth. I shouldn't have been so greedy and sharing one would have been suffcient. Service was very friendly and efficient albeit slightly slow.
