A word from Pierre Victoire
Tucked away down Dean Street amongst the hustle and the hipsters is the Pierre Victoire, one of Soho’s favourite dining institutions. This little haunt has been serving up rustic French cuisine to loyal regulars for over a decade, and this is still one of London’s favourite places for date nights and cosy pre-theatre meals. Part Provencal, part Art Nouveau, the dining room at Pierre Victoire is decorated with whitewashed walls, chalkboard menus, a vintage piano, eclectic artworks, untreated wooden floorboards and wine bottles stuffed with drippy candles, and the wholesome home-style cuisine and moreish wine is all delightfully affordable. With a steak-centric menu, Pierre Victoire also serves tasty omelettes, creative salads and plenty of seafood. Continued

  • "Service was good. The duck was raw inside. We ate 2 plates and we were within 1 hour finished. Everything was going too fast. Not really cosy."

  • "Excellent service and coffee. The food was okay but a little disappointing. The main was much bigger than expected. Overall a good experience."

  • "Quality at this price in the heart of Soho was such a pleasant surprise. Staff coped with a full restaurant very well. Food delicious, starters and mains better than the sweets and coffee needs some work but overall no complaints. Wine list is decent."

  • "Three of us went to see youngest daughter and her band at a local gig in Soho then a quick walk to Pierre Victoire where we'd booked a table for 9.30pm. It was busy but in a good way - basically, buzzing. Had remembered the upstairs from a visit many years ago, but this time we were downstairs - perhaps not quite as atmospheric but perfectly fine. Despite being so busy service was good and friendly. The food was terrific - two of us had duck, and one sole meuniere. All delicious. Wine list was just the right length - certain amount of choice but not so much to have risked baffling. We enjoyed a Picpoul de Pinet, which really worked well with the sole but which also had enough character to partner the duck. All good value too. Recommended."

  • "Took my daughter for a birthday dinner to Pierre Victoire. She had not been before so enjoyed the ambience of a French bistro in London for the first time. Food excellent as usual, the place was full but even so we did not have a long wait for either course. Good wine list too. Will be returning in due course."

  • "We love Pierre Victoire, food is fantastic, wine selection pretty perfect, brilliant locationand excellent service! The food is fairly priced, and the wooden tables with bottles for candelabras is very charming. If you are looking for great food in the West End, without the pretentious nonsense then Pierre Victoire is a must!"

  • "Very nice cosy restaurant. Made to feel very welcome and treated as if we had been there many times before. Food and wine very good value. My chicken was very tasty and my friend thoroughly enjoyed her vegetarian meal. Not rushed out even though we asked for a larger table just so a friend could join us just for a drink."

  • "That is what Pierre Victoire is: an eatery. Not a restaurant. The place is absolutely packed, the temperature is too high, the service has as much charm as an oyster, but the food is good and the merriment is guaranteed."

  • "We sat at a very cosy corner table and had the tuna and vegetarian gallettes. The food was very tasty and we had a lovely time. Friendly service too."

  • "We had booked for 8.30 and got our table fairly promptly. We only ordered steaks and they appeared so quickly we sent them back thinking they had made a mistake. But no they were ours and they were great!"

  • "Always dependable, even on a busy Friday night in Soho - excellent service and yummy french fare without too much pomp (or cost)."

  • "Great food, great service, great ambience, great value. Simply great. Shall return again and again."

  • "I had eaten at the restaurant a few months ago for the first time and wanted to re-visit. I invited two friends who had not been before. Fortunately my friends loved the food and the ambience! The starters were tasty and not too much. Two of us had the pork which was beautifully cooked and one had a vegetarian option. We were too full to attempt a pudding. The only slight down side was that the restaurant became a bit noisy as it was so full and we had to raise our voices to hear each other. But that aside we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and all three of us will come again."

  • "I booked Pierre Victoire based on the reviews and on the recommendation of friends. We were seated quickly but stuck right next to a fridge in a cramped corner. Not a great start. The service was efficient but not at all friendly. On to the food which was the best part. The starters were a delight. I had a pate that was heavenly and others had a variety. Nothing disappointed. The mains were as good, flavorsome and decent portions. The desserts were good and bad. Two of us ordered the apricot crumble expecting fresh, warm apricots. Instead we got dried apricots covered in very dry crumble mix. It was unpalatable and truly awful. However the chocolate mouse was moreish."

  • "Really nice place, the atmosphere is very casual yet classy. The food is good and they have many lovely options. Perfect for a romantic date, captures a bit of the Parisian style, I quite liked it."

  • "Very good service and never felt rushed. The set menu at £13 was great value. Ask for a table on ground level as the area downstairs is a bit cramped and dingy."

  • "The restaurant certainly filled up over Saturday lunchtime, however I noticed that the additional, downstairs dining room was empty up to the time we left around 2.30. Portions were substantial and the food was good, but we spent more than double the price of the set meal by the time we added a couple of portions of veg and drinks. They do not offer slimline tonic, which seems a mistake and the loos down steep stairs could not have been reached easily by anyone with a very small child ior disabilities. Service was discreet and efficient. Even so, we had a great time."

  • "Five of us went to Pierre Victoire for my birthday and had an excellent time. Food is delicious - full of flavour - and good value. The restaurant has a busy but relaxed feel - and best of all you can actually book a table, which is almost unheard of in Soho. Service was top notch. We ended up staying pretty late but the staff were very gracious and friendly. All in all a great place to go to."

  • "Been here several times now and it's as good as always. Lovely venue, great ambience, good service and excellent food. We took a couple of our friends here and they said it was terrific."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Good menu choice but then told that they had run out of lamb which was suprising as we were at the very start of evening service. It was a friend's birthday and she had registered for their offer of a bottle of wine but this was not forthcoming. The wine ordered was very pleasant and reasonably priced. Would certainly go again and would recommend as the busy atmosphere was enjoyable. Booking important as several were turned away while we were there."

  • "Ate here on a Saturday evening on recommendation as a 'romantic' restaurant. Aside from it being a french restaurant I couldn't see how it fitted that description. Tables were intimate but service was constantly going back and forth past you. The quaint french music soon blended into the din of diners struggling to yell at one another across the table. This didn't detract too much from the quality of food which was excellent. Steak tartare was well seasoned and presented, ribeye was beautifully cooked and flavoursome. Wine selection was large and well priced but the mid range wine we chose was only a passable beaujolais. Service was civil and speedy but there was no continuity of staff serving our table."

  • "My frienmd and I booked a table literally 15 minutes before our reservation. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and was fitting to the homely atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was simple but well cooked; we both had the goats cheese tart to start followed by the ribeye steak and the lemon sole. For dessert we had the fruit crumble and Affrogato and we would definitely recommend it!"

  • "I've probably reviewed Pierre Victoire on here a number of times now as it's my go-to place for an inexpensive yet very nice lunch. They have a 2 or 3 course set menu with several options. They always give you a lovely basket of French bread which is really hard not to demolish! Food options are varied and all of very good quality. At this price I think this restaurant is hard to beat in the Soho area and this is verified by how full they are every lunchtime!"

  • "I've always had a good experience eating here, the food is exceptional and always amazed at how they can fit so much on a menu and always deliver. Staff can be a bit pushy sometimes in that they want you out for table turnover but all in all a good find still."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "I read some great reviews of this restaurant so was really excited to go out for a lovely French meal. Sadly the food was disappointing, it was bland and a bit tasteless and the dessert was pre- prepared and hot on the outside and cold on the inside. Ambience could also be better, at the moment the decor is a bit weird (what are the pictures of cows doing there?) and the atmosphere not very pleasant. Service was great though so overall we had a pleasant enough experience."

  • "Pierre Victoire looked like a good choice for post-Opera dinner so we booked a table for 10:30. The restaurant is charming, with an informal look - mismatched furniture and bare tables. Comfortable, unpretentious. The welcome extended only as far as the decor, however. We were greeted by a scowling waiter and a studiedly indifferent waitress. The food when it came was very good indeed. We had oysters, nicely presented with all the garnish and entrecote steaks each cooked exactly as ordered. On the way out we asked the one smiling, friendly waitress to urge her colleagues to at least try to look welcoming, but on reflection, the problem is a management one. The restaurant shouldn't accept bookings late at night if they don''t want them."

  • "Pierre Victoire is a true bistro, with a wonderful ambience, really good food at great prices. The restaurant was extremely busy on our evening visit, but nevertheless the service was good and it was altogether an enjoyable experience."

  • "The staff were very friendly BUT, having arrived at the restaurant at 10.20, we didn't expect to have the bright lights switched on 40 minutes later while we were still eating our main course, the staff clearing our table around us and the vacuum cleaner out!!! Fair enough that we had to be out by 11.30 but, if the restaurant is listed as being a place to go for post-theatre dinner, it should be open and without the bright lights on until midnight. It's just plain rude otherwise and enough to give you indigestion. That said, for the first half an hour, the restuarant had a great vibe to it and the menu choice was extensive. It was very good value for money."

  • "Arrived in plenty of time for pre show dinner. Place looked good but a 45 minute wait for starters put us in a bad mood. Mains was quicker but delay ( loosing our order ) made it a forgettable experience. Thankfully show was superb."

  • "Good variety and good quality food. The set meal is value for money. I like the dimly lit restaurant making the room romantic. The service was average. They have a good selection of wine and they are not too expensive."
