  • "Booked dinner on Saturday night with friends for my 40th birthday and planned to have a drink beforehand in the Vanilla Rooms. This is the 3rd time to try Vanilla Rooms and each time it has been closed to the public. We therefore had drinks upstairs but the cocktail list from the Vanilla Rooms was not available to restaurant diners, which left us disappointed from the off. The food menu was appropriately limited, so one would expect them to be done exceedingly well. I had lamb, which was divine but parts of the dish were cold; my friends also had partially cold food, while the scallops on the lobster dish were gritty. The wine list was amazing and we spent lots on it. Our bill was £377 for 4. Too pricey for mediocre food, but ace wine."

  • "Had afternoon tea on Mothers Day and had a great experience - lovely food and atmosphere. Enjoyed adding a few glasses of Welsh fizz to make it extra special. Scones were great with plenty of jam and cream, good cakes and treats and tasty sandwiches served with pea shoots. Nice presentation of the food and we didn't feel rushed, had a very relaxing afternoon."

  • "Went as a couple for a Sunday lunch, we were both very well treated throughout and the food was divine. Would recommend to anyone who's prepared to pay the bit extra to really enjoy their food. Keep up the good work guys."

  • "Fine dining in an elegant setting. Something Cardiff has needed for a long time. Food beautifully cooked and imaginative; very good presentation. Excellent and extensive wine list."

  • "best food in cardiff here. great value set lunch menu. fantastic flavours."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "The food was excellent and service attentive. The £25 set menu was good value for money given the quality of the cooking. Although the building is fascinating, I felt it lacked a nice dining ambience. Maybe an evening setting is different. I hope to try it one day."

  • "Pre-booked stating afternoon tea was a birthday treat for my wife. Cakes & sandwiches were bland with no pastries and very uninspiring, tiny portions, tea was from tea bags!!!! Shocked to find in a restaurant of this standard they were served on a cake stand with three large chips out of which when pointed out to waiter produced no comment. On making views known to manager he offered a free re-visit for another afternoon tea which I declined as did not wish to repeat this experience. Having now appreciated the level of my disappointment he then offered a refund which I accepted however when he processed this he only refunded one of the two meals !!! Very disappointing birthday treat for for my wife."

  • "Food, ambience, service - excellent as always. A special birthday joy on a stormy February day."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Overpriced - small portions, forgettable food, and completely lacking in ambiance (tinny Celine Dion CD playing)."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Beautiful venue in Cardiff, very creative cuisine with something to suit all tastes. Good wine list and helpful staff. Will remember on my next visit."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "We recently visited the Park House for a lunch, we opted for the a la carte menu. We were not disappointed. The food and service was exceptional. We can highly recommend the venison and the wine was also excellent value ( grenache). It made for a real treat after the hussle and bussle of the christmas crowds. We would definately recommend this jewel of a place to friends and family."

  • "Food was sheer perfection. The chef is obviously highly talented and working extremely hard to serve dishes which must rank amongst those at the half dozen or so top restaurants in Britain. I very much doubt if one could have a nicer meal at the Manoir or the Fat Duck. The suggested wines with each course were a perfect and very skilful selection. Very civilised if rather quirky location, redolent of London clubland. The pianist was a little too loud and should not have been singing - in a place like this what is needed is a classical pianist playing Mozart and Chopin gently in the background. Yet again we encountered very pleasant Polish staff - but why on earth do they speak English so quickly? - and where were the Welsh speaking staff?"

  • "Taster menu was spectacular. Varied and well balanced courses with excellent wines. Ambiance and service excellent. Best restaurant in Cardiff. PERFECT !!"
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "Excellent service and atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The wine list is incredible and the food is outstanding. My only disappointment is that I hadn't found this restaurant sooner! Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys good food and wine in a beautiful setting. I'm looking forward to returning in the near future."

  • "My wife and I booked the Friday before a rugby international as part of a weekend break. The venue is very nice and relaxed, whilst clearly being of high quality. The bar staff were helpful and friendly and directed us to an excellent Sancerre. Restaurant was not too crowded, again service was excellent. I had scallop starter, which is better than any I have had before, mainly because of the sweetness of the black pudding. The venison main was equally good and cooked perfectly. Only comment in terms of after-dinner was the port selection was a bit limited and it would be nice to see a good Tawny on there as an alternative to LBV"
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "We booked Sunday lunch here because it was recommended by The Harrow at Little Bedwyn (1 Michelin star) which we love so expectations were high. Menu was enticing and although nice, each course was not quite as good as we had hope eg Lobster risotto lacked seasoning (no salt/pepper on table), bread and butter pudding was dry. However, delicious vegetables and perfect chocolate fondant. The wine was good, although a few less expensive options would be appreciated and if you felt like splashing out, Dom Perignon was an outstandingly good price! Service good. Horrific canned music, pretty loud too! It really does not help to have Jennifer Rush belting out a tune while you eat and chat. Pretty souless surroundings/decor and few other diners."
    dined on 27/10/2013
  • "We had the 7 course taster menu and the food was excellent. However the ambience was sterile with no real atmosphere despite several tables occupied. The service was average and overall experience was precocious. We wouldn't rush back"
    dined on 18/10/2013
  • "Our fourth visit to the restaurant for the Taster menu - it gets even better each time."
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "Very quiet but we expected that as it was a Tuesday lunchtime"
    dined on 15/10/2013
  • "We would recommend the restaurant to everybody who enjoys fine dining at its best. The selection of wine complimented the fab flavours from each dish. The staff provided excellent service including the pianist who enhanced the ambiance. Wonderful"
    dined on 12/10/2013
  • "The set lunch menu is exceptional value. We weren't mad keen on the upstairs room (a temporary location due to a wedding?), but you can't fault the food."
    dined on 04/10/2013
  • "Had the taster menu - absolutely fantastic. Don't expect a quick in and eat dinner - the courses keep coming. Have had a many taster menus and this rates up there with the best."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "I was recommended Park House by a friend and we made a special visit to Cardiff to try. Although the food was very good, and the building quite impressive, we were the only diners at 1.30pm on a Friday.. It was my intention to make a group booking, but toilet access was two floors up, or staff toilets one floor down, The interior seemed very tired and did not have the oumph promised by a very good website. Perhaps my own fault but as I was driving asked for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc rather than a bottle and I should have known immediately that this was not the sort of supermarket stuff I normally quaff. But a warning that it was £13 per glass (Cloudy Bay) would have been appropriate."
    dined on 06/09/2013
  • "Last Saturday was not as pleasant an experience as on a previous occasion. The food was very fussy. It was quite busy and perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed. More attention please to detail. However on previous occasions we have been very pleased."
    dined on 24/08/2013
  • "Loved our evening, very relaxed atmosphere, fantastic for a romantic night out, can't wait for my next visit."
    dined on 24/08/2013
  • "We wanted a special place to celebrate our anniversary whilst on holiday in Cardiff, this was certainly different, never had to ring a bell to enter a restaurant before. Lovely building, staff were very friendly and welcoming. We opted for the taster menu with matching wines, food was excellent, portions just right and chosen wines complemented the food perfectly. The service was good but perhaps a bit to good. The courses and wine came along far too quickly and hadn't finished savouring one glass when the next served so our eating experience was over very quickly."
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "The usual great experience. We had an excellent meal, our only regret was we couldn't try all the menu options."
    dined on 30/07/2013
  • "My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at The Park House. The service was superb and the food quite outstanding. Every course was beautifully prepared and presented, and tasted even better. We had not visited this restaurant before and our celebratory meal was made even more special for us by all the staff without exception. We did however love in particular the head waiter who was amazing at his job and took time to explain the dishes and answer any questions we had. We would warmly recommend The Park House - beautiful meal, wonderful service and lovely surroundings."
    dined on 18/07/2013
  • "Last Saturday night we enjoyed a lovely evening, with good food & nice atmosphere. It was one of the hottest days of the year, so it was nice to sit by an open window. The piano player was very good, but made conversation a little hard. Future guests need to be aware the ladies rest room is up two flights of stairs and the signage directing you there could be better. I wandered about the first landing before noticing a small sign advising me to go up another flight of stairs. My friend celebrating her birthday, received a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, a nice touch, but we did laugh at the fact we didn't ALL receive one so we could have joined in & toasted her health. If we are ever visiting Cardiff in the future we would come back."
    dined on 13/07/2013
  • "We had a delicious meal in very pleasant surroundings. The presentation of the food was excellent. The staff were efficient and helpful. We certainly would return on our next visit to Cardiff."
    dined on 22/06/2013
  • "We were lucky enough to get half price vouchers for afternoon tea so jumped at the chance to try out Park House. Initial impressions were positive with the waiter taking his time to make sure we knew what to expect from the courses. When the sandwiches came out we were slightly worried that even at half price it wouldn't prove good value as we had just 3 small finger sandwiches each. However when the cakes came out all our worries were washed away with the what was the most delicious selection of sweet treats I have ever tasted! From apple cake to home made fudge to indivual rhubarb crumbles in shot glasses, to the freshest scones still warm from the oven (with pots of jam and cream to boot) I really can't recommend it enough! Excellent!"
    dined on 22/06/2013
  • "Went to Park House to celebrate our anniversary and found it a great dining experience. The waiters were lovely and friendly and made our evening very special and the food was something else. Having opted for the 7 course taster menu was a very good choice as the food was outstanding. As it was a Thursday evening it was very quiet as there was only one other table of diners besides us. We were told that Friday was fully booked so there would have been a better atmosphere, especially with live music."
