The decor is quirky an old style elaborate pub with a mixture of Art Deco and antique , there are bird cages, chandeliers sculptures. The bar hums and there is often music there, there is a mock library to sit and have pre prandial drinks. The waitresses are friendly and charming and the food I had wholesome. I always feel sad when it's not full on a Saturday lunch, but at least we could hear ourselves... Oysters were good, shrimp were good, salmon-poached egg combo was good (though the hollandaise looked slightly congealed). Steak was OK - not the most tender and juice I've ever tasted, chips were good. Veggie mains was well-thought through, nice range of flavours and textures. Desserts were VERY good - ice-creams to die for, and interesting banana-brownie-caramel ice cream dish with 'wow' factor. Not cheap (£30 pp for 3 courses, no drinks) but good food, local, nice atmosphere and friendly service. It was served very professionally, to high standard, by experienced waiters in a well-designed dining-room.
Our meal was about £40 p.p but then we had a superb NZ organic Sauvignon Blanc as recommended by the our waiter.

From the start the staff were attentive treating us as 'special' guests it seemed, without being overbearing, They were attentive but casual.
My sole with shrimps was great and tasty as was my friend's venison. The starters of beetroot and feta and a selection of fish was tasty and great if you share.
The Italian organic wine was perfect and overall with the 50% off the food a fabulous meal for the money. Full marks for turning us from grumpy unimpressed customers to happy devoted Paradise fans once more!03/03/2013 00:00:00AmazingMy boyfriend and I went here for sunday lunch, it was fantastic, we both had the beef which was just melt in the mouth (i am very fussy) the presentation, the wine they recommended and deserts (jaffacake) were brilliant. I also loved my coffee cocktail!
The only slight negative was that we had a little wait inbetween the main course and our desert and cocktail - however they were very busy.
I would highly recommend here to anyone and we are looking forward to visiting again!

Definately worth the trek (if it is, for you) - tasty gastropub food is good value with the 50% off. My lamb shank fell off the bone, and the chicken breast looked great and they enjoyed it. Too full for pudding, so had an extra bottle of very reasonable red wine instead. The waiter was attentive and made appropriate recommendations for wine etc. Nothing was too much trouble, even though my party arrived at different times. We felt like going out to eat and so had a look on top table and discovered that paradise had this amazing 50 percent off of the food bill. The food was very good I must say. We had the crab and halibut/haddock fish fingers to start with ad then the chicken which was lovely. The chips came out a bit cold and although they were meant to be triple cooked they didn't wow me, but I suppose it's hard to be wowed with cold chips.

The atmosphere is a good mix between casual, but up market without feeling formal, there's a good buzz in the dining room, but you don't feel like you're rubbing elbows with or neighbors. The place looks v nice, a mix of shabby, clubby and mym nan's house feel, and the food was greatly improved. The wine list is the result of the owner's wine passion, and as a result many wines on the list will be unknown to you (as me) - you should definitely take the plunge (under good guidance from the waiter) as some wines were outstanding, and with lower than usual markups.
All in all a great night.
I would hate to recommend it as I want to keep it my own little, local treasure. Excellent starter, smooth and creamy melt in the mouth apple and crab.
The main of feather beef was suprisingly tender and tasty.
To attain that flavour and texture they must have marinated and cooked the meat for at least a month!
The dessert we choose was the chocolate and banana souffle with orange sorbet.
It was exquisite, in taste and design. A plate produced by an artist which- would comfortably grace any
