A word from Orrery
In London’s chic and trendy enclave of Marylebone where designer shops vie for space with smart restaurants, Orrery provides a relaxed and stylish venue for shoppers, local residents and business people alike to enjoy very high quality classic French cooking. In keeping with the relaxed charm of this historic quarter, Orrery is housed in an old stable block, the space remade into something elegant and delightful with arched windows, a glass roofed area and a lively bar next door. The Orrery restaurant roof terrace is one of London’s great outdoor dining spaces. In fact, both the bar and sunny terrace are two of London’s finest sipping and basking spots, a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the West End. The menu is traditional French with classic dishes made exciting by inventive touches. The wine list is among London’s best and most extensive, running to more than fifty pages, and the head sommelier knows his stuff. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Great place to relax over really excellent and well presented food. Calm atmosphere with a friendly atmosphere, a little oasis of calm. The little extras make this a really enjoyable experience. Wine list good and extensive-some on the pricey side."

  • "I booked the Orrery partly because of the setting and specifically asked for a window table, which I received. Our table had a lovely view. The staff are very attentive and looked after us well, without feeling that we were being rushed - they left us for just about the right time between each of the courses. We ordered one of the tasting menus with wines, which was understandably pricey but excellent, although I would have preferred a set of dishes that were a little less sweet (e.g Lobster and Mango salad). The cheese board is also a must for cheese lovers. It was a special occasion that we will definitely remember."

  • "Food and service superb but fixed price does not include drinks and other items so be aware the cost of the meal was over double the fixed price per head"

  • "Visited Orrery with my wife in April 2014 and we were very impressed with both food and service. Had the tasting menu with accompanying wine package and it was by far the most food and wine we've had for that kind of money. Wouldn't say it beats Gordon Ramsay's flagship restaurant on Royal Hospital Road but you come very close at significantly lower cost. Food was absolutely fantastic and the wine pairing was excellent with wines that made you feel you were almost drinking the food you had just eaten. Service was just as good and all our requests were met with a positive and genuine service spirit. Ambience was a bit greyish. If the bathroom scale would only allow for more frequent visits, I would be happy to make this a regular staple."

  • "the combination of service, food and selection of wines all make eating at orrery an amazing experience. we arrived early for a cocktail before dinner and when we told the head waiter this was our first romantic dinner since our daughter was born — three years ago! — he immediately arranged for one of their best tables for us, which made the night extra special, as rather than sitting across from each other, at a 2 person table, we got to sit nice and close on the corner of a table normally reserved for 4 people. i could not recommend orrery enough to anyone wishing to have an amazing culinary experience, which is enhanced ten fold by their friendly and attentive staff."

  • "1st we were 1 hr late for our booking it had been soo stressful getting there. We were both flustered and hoped the food would be worth it. They didn't disappoint!!. I really thought they would turn us away. Fortunately they assured us it wasn't a problem. The service was just lovely. Not over bearing at all but still there when you need them in fact l don't recall doing the waving hand thing to get their attention. We went for the £30 for 3 course meal deal. Food was just lovely and if we weren't paying for the deal l wouldn't mind paying for the full price. What was even better they had run out of the dessert on the deal menu they gave me an even better alternative. Overall thoroughly recommend this place Lovely food and Service!"

  • "I have been to the orrery several times and I have always found the food excellent, the service to be impeccable and the choice of menus means that it is not ridiculously expensive. I always come away feeling that I have had a great experience."

  • "Excellent food, but expensive wine list with not enough choice. Almost very good!"

  • "Dined for the first time this week with business colleague. Great food and choice of drinks, superb service and the 'extras' add to the experience. I love Marylebone and the Orrery is a place to dine. The £30 three course meal is great value and one to experience."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "The Orrery is always special, the food imaginative and beautifully served coupled with the various amuse buche (we had three plus chocolates) made the evening very special. The service is friendly but not intrusive and we weren't hurried in any way. The evening three-course special is excellent value."

  • "Service here is perfect, I don't know how it could be better, several staff each specialist in their own roles deal with you when you need their expertise; they are always there when you need them, before you know you need them too, but are never visible, in the way or constantly bothering you. There is a full veggie tasting menu which is good, but the options on the normal menu are truffle-based for the starter and main, and they were several years ago too when I last visited, that's the only down point."

  • "Had heardfrom a number of people that I would like Orrery, first time I had eaten there. Beautiful surroundings, attentive service and good food. Good value with the Top Table 3courses for £30 offer"

  • "This was our second visit and it didn't disappoint. Great choice of food from the £30 menu and fabulous service. The food was very good and the little tasters were a nice touch. Such a lovely place to go and just have a really nice meal."

  • "Another outstanding meal at my favourite restaurant in London!"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We had the set lunch which was very nice, albeit with small portions. Good ambiance, especially on a sunny day. Let down by slow service."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We decided to have a drink at the bar before dinner, which did look better for having the lights dimmed after about quarter of an hour. Unfortunately for long periods of time the bar staff were abscent which meant we had to 'grab' a waiter as they were rushing to and from the bar in order to get served. The ambience is good and the staff very friendly and knowledgable. My only negative issue is the temperature at which the hot food is served at - an issue that I have at many top class restaurants. The soup was poured in to large slightly warmed bowls which meant that the soup was just a little too cold and the salmon and duck main courses were just not quite hot enough - such a shame when the actual cooking itself was so good."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Slick, while retaining a relaxed atmosphere. The food is wonderful, and a steal at £27 for 3 courses on the lunch du jour menu. Attentive staff and an overall great dining experience. It's a shame the wine list is mostly in the 'expensive to ludicrous' price bracket."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Despite having set prices; the Orrery (one of my favourite restaurants), is very good at hiking up the prices with supplements and extras. On each of the menus there are 3 options for each course. On the A la Carte menu there is a supplement on one of the starters and one of the mains (£10) and a £5.50 supplement for cheese. My Dover sole was nicely cooked although rather small and didn't come with anything at all other than tartare sauce. So we had to pay extra for vegetables and these were very expensive for the very small portions. Having said this, the food was all delicious. Service could be a little more friendly"

  • "Very attractive restaurant in buzzy Marylebone. The roof terrace wasn't open on our visit but looks worth exploring for the future. Small but cosy bar for pre dinner drinks. We ordered from the Set Menu, £30 for 3 courses. Good choices and excellent execution of all our dishes. Delicious mozzarella and pear and salmon ravioli with lobster bisque to start. Boeuf Bourgignon and wonderful salmon and leeks with mussel velouté for main courses. Beautiful presentation and rich, well seasoned flavours in everything we ate. Desserts delightful too. I found the service slightly over fussy for my taste. But loved the food and design of the restaurant itself. Came home and immediately booked return visit - rare indeed."

  • "This restaurant has never disappointed. The food is excellent, with a good choice on the Menu du Jour; interesting flavours, beautifully presented. Service is attentive yet discreet. Whether it is a business meeting or a special treat, you cannot go far wrong choosing this venue."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "The staff were attentive without being overly friendly; food was beautifully cooked and flavoured and delivered with the right gaps between courses. Overall a very pleasant experience."

  • "My colleague and I (both Headteachers) had a wonderful evening at the Orrery. Food, ambience and service were top notch and it was certainly good for conversation and discussion within a relaxed and pleasant environment. On the expensive side but a real culinary experience. Thank you and 10 our of 10/A*!"
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "The service and ambiance was all that one would have wished for but the main course was a little washed out and luke warm and therefore a disappointment."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "A day in London made exceptional by Sunday lunch at The Orrery, very good service and attention to detail along with superb food made the whole experience memorable and very relaxing. The service was not rushed at all and with comfortable seating felt rested and we were ready to do more sight seeing . Will definitely return."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "My wife had treated us to see The Commitments and my treat to her was dinner at Orrery. We had not been there before so it was quite an adventure for us coming up from rural Surrey. I must say we had a really lovely evening, The staff were both friendly and very efficient with both wine and water glasses being attended to well before they became "critical". The food was superb to; I chose the fish soup for my starter and the flavour was outstanding. The atmosphere is relaxed and very pleasant and although the wine list has plenty of fine vintages to choose from you can also find a good bottle for under £30 and they have both white and red available in a 365 ml caraffe."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "A pleasant interlude on a cold rainy day.- and a delicious lunch. We will return!"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We have coming here since the 1990s. The food isn't quite as good as it used to be. However it is still good and the ambience is brilliant"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I love Orrery. It's a serious, grown up, stylish restaurant. The food is always amazing (even on the TT deal). The service is wonderful. The room itself is gracious and is one of the few places where you can eat, and have a conversation without either shouting over the din, or fearing that your neighbours are so close that they have no choice but to listen to you!"
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Outstanding food and very good service. Comparing to other London restaurants it cannot be considered an expensive place. Will return when visiting London again."
    dined on 13/03/2014
  • "I went to The Orrery with my parents and boyfriend. It was a chance to catch-up but also an early celebration of my parent's 40th wedding anniversary. The restaurant manager made a note of this fact and we were very surprised by a touching addition to our petit fours: they were displayed on a giant plate on which was written Happy Anniversary in chocolate. Aside from this very sweet gesture, the food was delicious, the wine superb and the service attentive but not overbearing. All in all a great evening!"
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "a long leisurely affair with utterly no pressure to finish and most enjoyable. Intelligent cooking with smiley, if slightly chaotic service. Marred, as always these days, by a wine-list that starts in the mid-twenties, nods only a few times at sub £30 bottles and then takes off. When will restaurants realise that there is a market for more, but cheaper bottles? We were four, shared two bottles but really would have preferred a third (yes, perhaps it would have been excessive but we had not seen one another for some time) but, and it is a big but, I really felt that a £100 wine-bill was a bill too far."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "We went for lunch and had the set menu, it's a lovely restaurant with lots of light, the service was impeccable and the food was beautifully presented and very tasty."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "The Orrery offered excellent choice and each plate was outstanding in taste and presentation. The staff were professional, attentive and friendly. Great dining experience and we will go again!"
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "We hadn't been to Orrery for quite a few years not because of the food or service but because of the perception that it is a little too formal and a jacket may be required. The food has always been superb and the wine list is extensive although you may need to set aside half an hour to do it justice, The atmosphere has relaxed and the service is still very responsive and attentive. It's a great place to spend to dine."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Great ambience and food - particularly liked the cheeseboard."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Delicious food beautifully presented - lovely attentive staff. Light airy restaurant - perfect for lunch on a bright summer day. Will definitely return - the sooner the better!! Only downside was the very high-priced wine list but choose carefully and there are still one or two reasonable bottles, however with a restaurant of this calibre it is only to be expected."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "My wife and I have been irregular visitors to this fine establishment over past 10 years, including one memorable Christmas Day lunch. Always an attractive menu and wide wine selection. Service sometimes not friendly but tends more toward cool professionalism."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Very average experience. Despite choosing the set lunch menu, it took 40 minutes for the starter to arrive. The restaurant was not full and there were plenty is staff swanning around but they did not seem to have customers as their first priority. The food was good but not exceptional and, without exception, tepid. Normally would have sent it back but had waited so long we just ate it! Wine list limited and expensive. Service charge automatically added to bill."
