I have eaten at the Orchid through the week, and had A La Carte menu which is brilliant. The buffet food is to the same standard as the A La Carte. I have not been to a buffet where such a large variety of starters, including Duck pancakes has been on offer, soup, and battered king prawns in a lovely miso mayo sauce. Main courses were a selection of meat and vegetarian, with dumplings and salads. Desserts were cakes and fruit. Extremely good value for the quality of the food and survive available. When I asked for more sauce for my main meal I was given it without question and included in the price. Wide selection of food from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Philipines - there is something for everyone if you're used to and like Indian and Chinese food. There were 4 of us and we shared our dishes to enable us to try more. The service was very good even though it was so busy, we did not have to wait long but were not rushed out of the place either. Had to go for a late reservation due to a last minute booking but this is not an issue here where tables are full throughout the night due to its popularity so atmosphere is consistently good and a real buzz in the restaurant. Had a drink in the lovely bar area first before going through to our table which was in a nice spot and waiting staff in that area were great very attentive, friendly and professional. The food was a s good as ever and always order to much because of this, but the food really is as good as you get for South Eastern Asian cuisine in the area. Our only criticism was the attitude of the staff.... they weren't the most friendly. On phoning to confirm our booking, the first and only thing I was abruptly informed was that we would need to clear our table by 9pm. We hadn't even made it to the restaurant and already we were being told when to leave. I almost cancelled based on the rudeness of the staff but I'm glad we didn't as the food was really lovely. So in summary, if the staff were more friendly, it would have been an excellent meal. Bit of a sucker for a good early bird deal but as this was a special occasion we booked it and could not have been more impressed.The food was out of this world, thoroughly enjoyable and plenty of it. We ordered a starter each (bang bang chicken was bang bang on) a main each, a rice and a noodle dish. There was too much food and I was genuinely sorry that I filled up and couldn't finish it off. Just not enough space in me but I was still enjoying every mouthful.
Good lager on tap, bottled beers a bit expensive.
10% service charge added to the bill, usually this annoys me but I had no problem here after such an enjoyable evening.
