NOPI Ratings and Reviews
The menu is particularly 'social' because there are a fine selection of mains AND an unusually varied group of sides and appetizers. We were encouraged to order the latter categories as shared dishes. We each chose something out of the ordinary and it was entertaining to see how the choices worked together. The orange wine on the list is a category I'll need to do a bit more research on before I'm convinced -- but the theme of our meal was adventure so I enjoyed the new experience. I'd love to get up a group of good pals and sit at the laboratory tables on the lower level, in view of the kitchen. That will have to be for next time which I hope is soon!
Everything we ate was incredible. So delicious! I would recommend to anyone. Such a perfect dinner! Not too formal just great.
Nothing special, too expensive and rushed.
What a disappointment. We were given a voucher for our wedding and put that on the reservation. It would have been nice if they acknowledged it - when I was a host I always read the notes to ensure guests felt welcomed and appreciated. From the start we felt totally rushed, plates were taken away before our forks were even down. The food was ok - nothing special and the price was insanely expensive for the portion size. I'm so pleased we had the voucher (not that it covered the whole meal), as I would not want to spend my money there. Not ok Mr Ottolenghi... you need to work on this - I expect so much more.
Brilliant. Food great. Gluten Free Menu ...
Brilliant. Food great. Gluten Free Menu bigger and better than most. Even a gf treat instead of bread and oil. Love it.
Not up to expectation
We love Ottolenghi cook books and we had many great dinner out of them. We had therefore great expectations for our dinner there. The all experience was uneventful food tame and just ok service without a character. Nothing bad but overall we could have skip it
We are great fans of Yotam Ottolenghi's food, and frequently cook from his books. From the start the experience at Nopi was not what you would expect of such a restaurant. Our table wasn't ready so we had to stand at the bar, having had a busy day I did not feel like standing, and felt rather like we were in the way. The food was good, but the service a bit too laid back. We had been told that we could only have the table till a certain time, and were made to feel very uncomfortable when we ordered coffees and were going to exceed our allotted time. For a bill as big as ours I felt very cheated that our family night out was not as relaxed as it could have been and won't return.
Booked this as a special treat and had been looking forward to it for weeks. Food was average and very expensive, portion much smaller than at Upper Street branch and wine really expensive. However, the most distressing thing was the service. We were rushed right through our supper, why our napkins rings need removed instantly I'm not quite sure? The glimpse of an empty plate and it was whisked away, irrespective of whether anyone or even you had finished. For all the booking into the restaurant to have an intimate, special experience I was so very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend at all.
A very special delicious interesting lunch - brilliant staff too !- eg our waiter suggested bringing a taster of the orange wine prior to purchase which was much appreciated
Best food I have ever eaten
Not cheap but well worth the money. Delicious food, a great range of options (including brilliant fish and veggie dishes), great service, great atmosphere. Wine selection could have more options at the cheaper end but the house red is lovely. Can't stop recommending.
The Commodification of Ottolenghi
I was sorely disappointed with my meal at Nopi. I was expecting explosions of flavor but was presented with dishes that looked and sounded nice but that tasted bland. This is clearly about execution - I think a decent cook following the recipe book could probably throw together a better meal. Perhaps the commodification of ottolenghi is finally biting back.
SUBLIME food, great service, unique flavours
I went to NOPI for a catch up lunch with an old friend. The staff were engaged and attentive, and very helpful in making wine choices and even gave us samples of two wines we were interested in (not something I've seen done anywhere before). We chose an italian volcanic variety that was earthy and full of berry flavours - a perfectly light but warm depth of flavour for our dishes. We ordered the burrata with coriander seeds & the aubergine with almond yogurt as shared starters - both were absolutely sublime. The burrata almost fell apart with creamyness, and the almond yogurt worked like a dream to balance the aubergine. Every mouthful our eyes went wide with surprise and glee. Our main to share was the duck confit with coconut - insanely delicious. The combination of fresh crunch of mint and very fine coconut was on its own an amazing flavour combo, when combined with the lime juice and duck meat it was something truly unique and special on the palate. We had accompanying polenta fries which were a nice carb base.
One of the best in the city
If you're an Ottolenghi fan (who isn't?), this place is a must. It's a more refined, formal dining sit-down experience than his other establishments in town with none of fuss or pretension of, say, The Ledbury. As good as I think Yotam Ottolenghin is, his partner in this project, Scully, makes him twice as good. I was in town for two nights and ate two meals in a row at NOPI. In my opinion, Dinner By Heston is the most impressive restaurant experience in London, this is my number two. I suggest asking for the sample book of NOPI and read about your dish (if it is in there) as you eat it. Six of the seven dishes I tried over two meals were in the book and reading them describe the dish, it's ingredients and how to make it while I ate it made for a first. I can't recommend highly enough that you try it. For example, my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I bit into the gingered baby tomatoes. How did they do that?? I grilled my server who had a general idea but didn't exactly know. He said he'd ask the kitchen. Then, I found the exact same dish in the book and proceeded to read the process out to him. If cost is a challenge for you, nurse a beer or a cheap glass of wine or skip the booze all together. The food doesn't require it.
Best restaurant I've eaten in in the UK!
Our experience at NOPI was amazing. The staff was very welcoming and enjoyed telling us about the dishes on the menu. They also took care in serving us the food in properly timed batches, as we decided to go for a selection of sharers/small plates. All of the dishes we had chosen were delicious and well-balanced, accompanied by some very good wine (Chianti classico). Must tries are the: 1) Valdeon cheesecake (savoury cheesecake with four kinds of cheese, beetroot and almonds 2) Buratta with coriander seeds (tasty and perfectly gooey on the inside 3) mixed salad with wasabi mascarpone (what a great mix!) and 4) the baked chocolate ganache as a dessert (so good!). Overall it definitely was the best restaurant I've eaten in in the UK and I can definitely recommend going here (book a table upstairs and in advance if you want to eat here with your partner)!
NOPI great restaurant and food
Superb food, service exceptional. So great to be able to have a main or choose between lots of different dishes. The service was fantastic, always attentive but not intrusive, great recommendations and friendly, not snobby. I cannot fault the evening or any of the courses, delicious food great atmosphere.
Great food bad service
Food here was amazing but the service was not good and coupled with that a confusing menu. The waitress did not know the menu and was not able to recommend anything. Our food all came out at different times, which spoiled the special birthday occasion for my mother in law and certainly didn't warrant the 12.5% service charge. If the service was better, I would definitely go back there. But with prices like that there is no excuse for bad service.
First visit following various recommendations.....
The food was superb we were not disappointed - especially the double baked chicken and the aubergine dish - gorgeous. It was a treat so we were not expecting cheap - but nevertheless £5 for olives and £5 for nuts was a tad steep, especially as they were just presented to us without order. The staff were very attentive and professional....also all very good looking - it looked like the set of a film. The house wine was superb too - so despite the olives and nuts...we will return.
I have heard about this "amazing" restaurant during a number of my past visits to London. Until this most recent visit, there has not been a opportunity to eat there. My husband and I looked forward to something quite a bit more special than we found. The food tasted good, the presentation was nice and the service prompt, but neither of us were particularly "wow'd" and we probably wouldn't hurry back. The only real negative comment about our dinner is that the decaffeinated coffee I was served was instant and very weak and I should have sent it back - in all, our long-awaited dining experience at NOPI did not meet up to our perhaps too high expectations.
Attentive service, outstanding flavour combinations, everything one could expect of the food genius Yotam Ottolenghi. And not too expensive either - we had a tasting plates menu for 2 at £100 plus £40 for good wine - yet easily amongst the top 2-3 dining experienced we have ever had (others having Michelin stars). Pretty much faultless.
We chose NOPI on the reputation of the food, and it was excellent. My personal favourites were the hake with girolles, and the courgette fritters, which were so good we ordered seconds. The dishes aren't particularly filling but there's no problem asking for more, and there's no pressure to eat up quickly and move out. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and we felt welcome. I would definitely go again.
WE LOVED IT
booked lunch last Thursday for a special meeting. I wont waste words just to say it was thoroughly enjoyable and a little bit different. the orange wines are really worth trying if you have not done before. our lunch lasted nearly 5 hours so that should say it all.
Booked into Nopi for a business breakfast - the Shakshuka was fantastic and the atmosphere of the restaurant very pleasant.
The food was delicious, and whilst initially I thought the portion sizes a little small, it was all very filling. The house wine was lovely- always a perk- and our waitress, an Australian lady, was very attentive, gave great recommendations, and didn't hover. The only thing I would say is that it's a little on the pricey side- to be expected, mind. I highly recommend saving room for dessert :)
So very loud!
While the food was tasty, it was so loud in the restaurant that I couldn't really enjoy it. I just wanted to get out of there. It's nice that they provide a lactose free menu but the choices are extremely limited. I think it's nicer when the chef prepares most of the food without dairy when needed. I would not recommend this place.
Being a huge Ottolenghi fan, I had really big expectations for my dinner at NOPI. And they have been more than met. The service and ambience are great, and the food is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I am a vegetarian myself and the options are great. I also like how the dishes are not standard at all. All dishes we ordered (6 in total) were very surprising. My absolute favorite was the roast aubergine with black garlic. I had no idea aubergine could taste that good! Thank you for this great experience and I hope to visit Londen and NOPI again in the future.
Great food nice staff brilliant atmosphere
We visited the restaurant on a Monday night and was glad we had booked as it was absolutely packed the food was not disappointing we have been waiting a number of months to come to London to try it We had the beautiful aubergine with black garlic and the crushed be true with cheese but my favourite was the burrata with oranges and coriander seeds We shared two main courses of the short rib with horseradish purity and the scallops with Apple and something I can't remember we also had a plate of Padron peppers with roasted garlic cloves The drinks were nice the staff were very amenable and the atmosphere was really good definitely a place I will be coming back to
great as usual!
this is one of our favorite restaurants in London. The fooyis always creative and good. Can be a bit noisy but the food, wine and service is excellent. Not cheap but good value for the money.
Lovely place. The same place I first took my now fiancee. Food once again exciting and different.
Overpriced Mediterranean food
staff made us feel great, atmosphere was good as well, but as one who's very familiar with Mediterranean food, it's really overpriced. there was no dish that knocked me off my fit and i think that if the bill (came to ~160 for 4 people for just starters + wine) worth 60% of it .
Very inventive flavours as you might expect ! We stuck with several small plates and shared. Everything was good ! Particularly enjoyed the Burrita .... The restaurant was full however staff were great . Enjoyed it will go back
good for a quick pre-theatre meal
The restaurant states clearly that for reservations with starting times before 6 pm the available dining time is 90 minutes. So much is clear, but the impression I got is that the staff is focussed on getting you out as soon as possible to receive the next guests. Even though empty tables were not occupied by new guests and I clearly indicated (when asked) that we were not in a hurry to go to any theatre. Being a bit late (due to a taxi driver mistake) we were offered a small table right next to the door. I feared it would be a cold spot and was offered another table, still at the window. Unfortunately still close to the door where cold air was flowing in, so I picked up my jacket at the entrance, where the waiter politely added that coming from outside it always takes some time to warm up. Well, I had arrived by taxi. All this would have been acceptable if the food was making up for the inconveniences. Now the food was nice, but not nearly as remarkable as I remembered from my previous visit two years ago. We shared small dishes, of which the twice cooked chicken was clearly burned. Deserts (we had Eton mess and icecream with chocolate sauce and peanut brittle) were only decent and not spectacular or adventurous at all, like you would expect at Ottolenghi's kitchen. Overall, a nice place if you are in a hurry and do not expect too much from the atmosphere. Or clearly book a table inside, far away from the window area and indicate at reservations you need more time.
I enjoyed the vegetables very much and had chicken as a main. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that very dish had a different sauce and sometimes they didn't go very well with the food. For example, the Japanese sauce with the chicken was a surprise which I would not have gone for had I known. We had a few different starters with so many sauces I was a bit lost. But all in all I enjoyed the experience.
An interesting menu, magical food. Delicious.
Booked for a special occasion, NOPI exceeded my hopes. A genuinely warm welcome, and we were expertly guided around a menu rich with fascinating possibilities. Foods which we didn't know were perfectly described, and the waitress was excellent at making careful suggestions. Excellently informed, we made bold choices with superb results. The combination of wonderful food with perfect service made the evening - we had to be politely removed at closing time. Returning as soon as we can.
Delicious vegetarian food! Perfect for lunch!
I love Ottolenghi's food and NOPI is perfectly located for pre/post Oxford/Regent/Bond Street shopping. My favourite dishes are: 1. Courgette & Manouri Fritters, 2. Cheesecake, 3. Mozzarella di buffala, 4. Burnt aubergine, 5. Scallops... YUM! :)
Nopi was was a no
Disappointed in Nopi. Our server seemed confused by questions, he was unsure what to recommend and knew little about the wines on the list. The dishes were average but the jicama was almost comical. Something my child could put together on a plate. I wasn't wowed by any measure and would much rather go to Ottolengi for take-away than go back to Nopi.
I explained to the waiter that I have a nut allergy and for the first time in my life was presented with a nut free menu - very impressive!!
Nopi is simply fabulous
Nopi is our favorite restaurant in London and one of our favorite restaurants in the world. We go there whenever we are in London. The food is amazing. The simple but fresh ingredients, including simply wonderful spices, make even the most prosaic sounding dishes, like chicken, fantastic. And the drinks are works of art. We usually order a variety of small dishes instead of entrees.
perfect spot for a special occasion, lov...
perfect spot for a special occasion, lovely atmosphere and unique food! I would recommend getting a number of the small plates to share so you can taste all of the exciting dishes.
NOPI continues to impress
This is the 2nd time we went there, last time we didn't manage to book a table upstairs but this time we did. Very good ambience, friendly service. Must try their toasted spiced nuts and savory cheesecake, these are the 2 dishes we went back for. We also ordered sea trout as a starter, another pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends who are traveling to London. Tips: make your reservation early to avoid disappointment
Must try for all the vegetarians and great options and flavour. Staff are well knowledge about the food.
Yotam Ottolenghi's food is always special
It's in a perfect location for lunch when you're shopping, just behind Regent St. The venue is great, the staff are very friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is buzzy and fun and of course the food is delicious. Lots of great tasting plates to share. My preference is upstairs, but down by the kitchen is also good for a group.
