Diner Reviews
  • "Booked well in advance and told them of the need for a high chair, when we arrived there was only one and someone else was using it. Table cloth was ripped, service just about reached adequate although the inability to follow a specific request caused some of the staff to lose the power of speech when it was pointed out to them. The food was very nice, except the kept running out of things, how can you have a Mother's Day promotion and then not have sufficient desserts? When we refused to pay the service charge it took two of them 10 minutes to change the bill. The problem is that there is no one senior in charge and the muppets run the show"

  • "We've been to many dutch pancake houses - so it was a treat to find that this has stayed true to the originals. Bright & welcoming & a good variety on the menu - we'll definitely be visiting again"

  • "We arrived 10 minutes early and our table was ready. The restaurant was quite full, but we were given prompt and friendly service throughout the meal. I'm glad they now have smaller options, but it would be nice to see it extended to desserts. We couldn't resist a dessert, but neither of us managed to finish. (Getting older plays havoc with your appetite!) Food delicious as always. Just wish we lived nearer so we could go more often."

  • "Definitely can't complain about the portion sizes or the quality of the food. Good menu selection and went home stuffed. Not the cheapest meal out I've had when the bill came through, plus I always find it a shame when restaurants put on an optional service charge on the bill. It's always steep at 12% and whilst I realise it's optional it always leaves me feeling more forced to tip rather than tipping for good service. But that's just my opinion."

  • "I was extremely disappointed with the service myself and daughter received from My Old Dutch. Firstly despite fact that I pre-booked they had no details of my booking made no attempt to check. We dumped on a table that had wobbly legs. We ordered starters of fritters it was not cooked properly when we complained just got a shrug of the shoulders. My daughter had sweet pancakes and I ordered savory. She finished her pancakes mine took almost 40 minutes to arrive despite me constantly chasing them. By the time it arrived I had lost my appetite and hardly eat it. I will definitely not be returning and will make sure I let everyone know of my bad experience. Not a happy bunny my daughter was equally disappointed."

  • "I was impressed by the large variety of pancakes and dishes they served (and the coconut beer!!!!). So much so that I can't wait to visit again and try something else in the menu. Anthony"

  • "This restaurant specialises in pancakes with toppings similar to what you might expect on a pizza. I went for the hot Dutch with pepperoni, chorizo and chili. Other more exotic toppings include tandouri chicken and Moroccan lamb. they also serve excellent Dutch starters like bitteballen. Poprtions are large and the beer (draft Heinekin and a selection of Dutch and Belgian ales) is good value compared to local pubs too. all in all a good value dining experience in the London'd west end."

  • "Lovely pancakes but dire service.... We queued for ages for a table even though we had a reservation in advance, and then waited for ages for everything... Even our first drinks on arrival took over 15 minutes to arrive. We went here for our anniversary to relive our first trip together to Amsterdam. It was a very disappointing experience and ruined our evening."

  • "My son wanted to go here as a birthday treat, we hadn't been for 25+ years so thought it would be fun. Nice food, good service, big portions. Will not wait 25 years to return."

  • "I decided to book a table online for this restaurant at 7:30pm and even got email confirmation for my booking. When I turned up they said they had given my booking away as it was listed for 7pm. I got no apology and my party was shoved in the bassment which was almost empty. I very much enjoyed the dinner and our waiter was nice but it took more than 40 minutes for my order to be taken there was no atmosphere and the waiters came down infrequently. Most of all I should have got some sort of apology for their booking mistake!"

  • "Having revisited the restaurant in Holborn after 40 years I was not disappointed only to add that my savoury pancake (Hot Dutch) arrived with the cheese not fully melted and was cold. Everything else was just as I remembered it and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her pancake with banana, maple syrup and ice-cream with a promise from me of a return visit."

  • "Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food? My Old Dutch confirms this in my mind. They serve you the most delicious pancakes that are enormous - seriously, the plates are at least a foot across. But what really won my heart was the fact that these giant, delicious pancakes can be made GLUTEN FREE! Go savory if you like, but I will alway choose sweet and can personally recommend the berry compote, banana and nut, and cinnamon and apple. A must visit - more than once!"

  • "We were treating our 2 children to a birthday meal. Everything was going fine until the waitress brought over the tea and coffee. She accidentally tilted the tray and hot tea went al over my daughter's back and the jug of milk spilt over her coat , my fur coat and on my handbag. She kept apologising but did't offer for us to move as there was milk everywhere. The manager said he would take 20% off the bill but I have just had to pay for 2 coats to be dry cleaned, a bag ruined and a completely spoiled evening, not to forget hot tea down my daughter,s back. No body offered to ask if she was OK. I felt some decent compensation should have been made. But we didn't make too much of a fuss and the whole situation was embarrassing."

  • "Despite booking a table we were left waiting at the door and people in front without booking were seated and received food quickly. We waited for over 20 minutes before even being asked if we would like any drinks. Once food was ordered it arrived quite quickly but service overall left a lot to be desired. Food was good although one member of the party was left waiting for theirs to arrive after everyone else had received theirs."

  • "Having booked a table for 8 three weeks beforehand, we were all annoyed to find out that the restaurant had not received our reservation. We were placed downstairs on our own, with was very isolating and noisy with the staff running up and down the stairs. We were kept for 20 minutes trying to find a place to sit, whilst we constantly showed the staff present the reservation email and confirmation email. The food was great but our night was slightly dampened by the delay at the beginning."

  • "The bitterballen are the best! The pancakes are okay, big and taste. The staff didn't speak English or Dutch, most of the time we had to ask 5 (!!) different waiters before we found one that could actually understand us. The ambience is more like a canteen then a restaurant, plastic table covers and very bright lights, I would go back, but mainly because I'm Dutch and graving my bitterballen once every few months."

  • "We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was good. If you're looking for fine dining that this isn't the place to go but they do excellent pancakes and poffertjes."

  • "I had not been to My Old Dutch for a long time and I wanted to go back because I had memories of great pancackes. Well, the pancackes are still great but ventilation in the establishment is so poor the air was stuffy and my clothes were still smelling after 2 days. No matter how great the food is, I'm afraid this restaurant is out for me unless they sort it out. Nevertheless, I wanted to write a review to make it clear the food is still very good."

  • "Great authentic Dutch pancakes and good value for money"

  • "Quite empty when we got there, but no one really looked after us, had to ask someone to take our order and she didn't speak much English and couldn't understand us, not good really. I wanted ice cream but was told they had run out but then orders after ours had ice cream so was not happy with that. One pancake was burnt and couldn't be eaten but no one came back and checked if everything was ok, not happy with the whole meal, no customer service at all."

  • "A return visit to My Old Dutch. Had my first savoury pancake here after many sweet ones. Went for the 'My Old Dutch' Pancake which was lovely and filling. Everybody else enjoyed their pancakes and milkshakes. Had a slight hiccup at the start when they did not have my toptable booking written down in their book, but showed them my confirmation email and we were seated - but later on got a notification for a TopTable no show despite dining there! so advice people to ring in advance to confirm that My Old Dutch have received your TT booking."

  • "Booked in over a week in advance for my son's birthday but upon arriving at the restaurant the staff were unaware of my online booking which was very unfortunate. Once we were seated, we had to get the staff's attention more than once to order our selections. Orders were accurately taken and food was available very promptly. Very reasonably priced. Overall with the exception of the issue with the booking of the table and having to prompt service, the experience was pleasant."

  • "Two of us went for dinner. The food was good, however the service was up and down. Mostly down. Although the food was ok I don't think we'll be back."

  • "I usually go to My Old Dutch to have lunch with friends who are passing through town: it's quick, slightly unusual and more interesting than other chains in the area. Was slightly disappoeinted by the service on this occasion, though. The staff were too keen to take our orders--2 waiters asked the same question within 30 seconds of each other--and I had to ask for the bill twice. That aside, it was all hunky-dory."

  • "Huge portions, especially potato wedges starter. Great choice of pancakes and very good for veggies. Gluten free pancakes available too."

  • "My older sister had attended before me and was really recommending this place. I had no idea what to expect but my sister was not wrong the food was more than satisfying and efficient so I was not left waiting too long between courses."

  • "Good Food, Good service but what let it all down was they do not accept the TopTable Dining Cheques. Top Table do not have My Old Dutch in their "Exclusion" list however the restaurant management were pretty adamant that they will not accept them. So be warned."

  • "Very rude, didn't even care that I had made reservations and gave us a bad seat near the kitchen with people constantly going in and out."

  • "The food is as appealing and quirky but the service here last Sunday evening left much to be desired! It took almost 30 minutes for our order to be taken, despite the fact that they weren't even busy and this was then executed without a smile. The same is true of the delivery of our drinks, the food and finally our attempts to pay the bill, to the point where my Husband asked if I thought they'd notice if we just got up and walked out? But what astounds me in any restaurant that adds a discretionary service charge, is that when you decline to pay it no one bothers to ask if this has anything to do with the actual service received. If they don't care about their service why would we care to return?"

  • "My Hubby & I went here for brunch last friday. Staff greeted you with a smile, let you chose your table as it wasn't too busy and came to take our order timely. Restaurant is a nice layout with quirky decor. Menu had a good selection of choices, including for Vege's too. Food on offer is pretty much pancakes of every kind! Big pancakes so go on an empty tummy to make the most of it. Drink selection is good too. We had 2 savoury pancakes (hubby had lamb and veg filling and I had hallumi cheese, veg & aubergines). Both washed down with thick chocy milkshakes each! They kindly transferred the shakes into large takeaway cups as we couldn't finish them there! My only small critisism would be the price. The above cost us £32.00! Never mind.."

  • "Went there after theatre in a big group with kids. Food is great, portions are large. There is a lot of choice - veggie, meat etc. The service was superb. The price reasonable. We all loved it."

  • "We had arranged to meet a friend for lunch and not knowing London at all were very lucky to go to My Old Dutch. The staff were very friendly and did not mind us delaying our arrival (parking problems) or hanfing about after we had finished eating. Food was delicious with lots of veggie choices."

  • "Went with a group of 8, we all decided to try one of the milkshakes, which are made with chocolate bars. They were quite good, but it was a trap, as the pancakes they serve(very fast service once you've ordered) are gigantic. A lot of groaning full people or unfinished pancakes. Said pancakes where very nice, although if you order tomato they just put it on top rather than cook it."

  • "I've wanted to visit a MOD for a while now after continuously driving past the Kensington branch. I had my first Real Dutch pancake in Holland last year; everything was great, the service, the food, the ambience. At Holborn I was a little disappointed. First off, neither my girlfriend or I were impressed with the service; it was slow and sluggish. The waiters themselves were nice, but maybe it was just a general bad day at the office.. But we refused to pay the service charge - I only pay this on rare occasions anyways as it's against my nature to tip people who are already getting paid, but both my GF and I almost laughed at the fact that a service charge was put on the bill! Food = o.k; pancakes under-cooked, bacon WAAY too fatty!"

  • "Great food and a lot of it. Swift service and decent value for money, especially considering the location and the amount of food that is included in a serving. I had a savoury pancake (smoked duck, delicious) and a sweet one (apple and cinnamon, very tasty), but I was bursting at the seams afterwards and I can eat a lot. Would definitely recommend it, great place to eat out. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere with good service. Excellent."
