MerchantsSophisticated dining -LiverpoolThis centrally located restaurant is the ground floor of a magnificent old building which is a boutique hotel. The grand dining room and the cocktail lounge has fantastic high ceilings with a middle glass dome and furnished in subdued colours in a classic/modern style. Best dining room in Liverpool. The staff are attentive and friendly. The fix price menu has a good number of choices and is very good value. The main courses were well cooked and nicely presented with vegetables. The only let down was the desserts, particularly the creme brule which didn't have the burnt top and did not taste too good.30/03/2013 00:00:00Great night out lovely foodGreat night out lovely food in an amazing building14/02/2013 00:00:00Special menuWe went for the special menu that was £35 a couple which included 3 course meal with good choice of food and a bottle of house wine included

Would definetly go again when next in Liverpool29/01/2013 16:00:00Nice food, excellent valueDespite being Saturday night was pretty quiet. When we arrived, there was a billboard advertising 2 courses for £12.99 and 3 courses for £14.99
Chilean Cabernet Merlot was rather unpleasant. Girlfriend's Shiraz, considerably better.
Starter of crispy fried squid with a zesty saffron mayonnaise, was neither zesty, nor had enough saffron in it so that you could taste it, but overall dish was tasty enough. Partners Leek and potato soup was under-seasoned and rather bland.
Main courses of Pork and Steak were excellent and tasty, if rather light on vegetables.
Sticky toffee pudding was lovely, although caramel ice cream rather over egged the pudding and vanilla would have been nicer.
Staff were very pleasant and service was quick.04/01/2013 16:00:00
