We adore food and wine and the taster menu with recommended wine was a perfect way to enjoy ourselves. the food was stunning and sublime every mouthful a taste sensation, we were given a description of the food placed in front of us and then the sommelier would let us know why the wine had been chosen was region it was from and what we could expect when it touched our lips.
The service was superb and discrete, no fuss, just professional and slick. we were a little late for our booking and our table had been given away but this was quickly sorted out with no argument. The staff led by Mr David Steel serves impeccably. I also see David very busy and attentive to all guests. Maze are lucky to have him and must try and retain him. The food was delicious and caused me to try different foods that I never would have thought to taste. The staff was amazing, professional and very personable. Everything runs like clockwork and the staff work great together. You are treated like you are the only one in the restaurant. Having dined at Maze several times before, I have to say lunch yesterday (Saturday) was one of the best meals I have ever had and this was echoed by my guests. Went for dinner with my wife, including a pre-dinner drink at the Maze bar. The food was absolutely delicious and we liek the idea of the dish sizes, whereby even on the a la carte menu they are tasting sized dishes, so we had four courses including dessert. Our Dessert's were amazing, we both think they are the best we have ever eaten. All the staff were smartly turned out, charming and very helpful. We were able to choose from a selection of savoury courses (about 7) and 3 sweet courses. We could have any combination of 4 each. We also took the optional 'wine flight' (3 glasses of wine) at £20 per head. We asked the sommelier to recommend an appropriate wine to accompany each of our 3 savoury courses. Wow! Food was superb and the recommended wines were excellent. We had heard from friends that the portions were small but after our food both my husband and I felt nicely full. Service was very discreet. It was my birthday and the staff could not have made the evening more special. So friendly from the moment we arrived, the staff went out of their way to laugh with us, help us choose a great bottle of wine and inform us on the menu, they didn't rush us at all (even though we went over our 2 hour time slot) and even gave me a lovely ganache cake to say happy birthday!
The food was wonderful and the asian tones were delicious! I cannot fault this place in any way.
I will definitely go back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants something more than the usual restaurant experience! It was nice to do something a little different than what we usually try to get when in London (being from the San Francisco area, we are spoilt for variety of a certain kind, so tend to go for pubs, French, etc, that is a bit harder to find in spades). The service was very good and while relaxed can be a bad term to use, I mean it in a positive sense. Everyone had an eye on the table, it seemed - plates were cleared and water and wine topped up, but rarely by the same person, but we never felt like anyone was told to do it. On both occasions the food and the wine were fantastic. The set meal which included 4 courses was extremely good value but as we wanted every choice on the menu we opted for the a la carte and shared 6 plates between us. The lobster dumplings were devine, as was the crab, however our favorite was the makerel soaked in beetroot with horseradish. The meat dishes were equally delicious, although the lamb was for us outstanding. The staff were very attentive and the complimentary truffles were to die for. This is my favorite London restaurant and such a lovely setting and room.
