About Maxim Chinese Restaurant
It’s a good sign when a restaurant is always busy, and Maxim in Ealing is bustling most nights. This long-established restaurant in Ealing is known affectionately by its customers as “Mrs Chow’s” in homage to the lady in charge of the cooking, who believes in using fresh, natural ingredients. Feeling adventurous? Swap sesame prawn toast for “shredded jellyfish with three delicacies” or “frog’s leg in black bean sauce”. If not, don’t worry – you’ll do just as well with traditional starters like satay chicken or sweet-and-sour won ton. Follow with aromatic duck, a classic of its kind with crisp golden skin and tender meat, or push the boat out with a whole lobster, halved and served with ginger and spring onion sauce. Side dishes like glossy, crispy green beans are equally good. Finish with deep-fried banana and apple, the crunchy coating giving way to soft, fluffy fruit.

Maxim Chinese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Poor quality food, hidden charges in set...
Poor quality food, hidden charges in set menu. Charged extra for 4 pancakes with the crispy duck. There is no ambience and head staff aren't very friendly especially the lady behind the bar. Ridiculously overpriced. I don't mind spending £70 for a meal for two but this was most definitely not worth it!
Great food but service still needs some work
Maxim's is always one of my top choices whenchosing a nice restaurant for a special occasion with a group of people. The food never disappoints, so far I haven't found anything on the menu short of delicious. However, the service still needs work. I have been there on occasions when the service was really slow and inattentive. On this occasion however, they were a little overbearing. They were hovering over us almost wanting us to eat and leave as soon as possible. But the food and atmosphere is still enough for me to return.
The food and service were amazing. We were shown to our table and from then the staff were very attentive and the food was very tasty. We had a set menu and ordered some extra dishes, the only complaint would be my husband asked for an extra pancake to go with the duck and we were charged 30p for it.
Lovely birthday meal for my mum
Lovely and welcoming staff. Great food. We throughly enjoyed our first time at Maxim's.
Lovely restaurant. Been going there for many years and a family favourite. Tasty food, attentive service and good atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Excellent standard of Peking cuisine
I've been here many times and the standard of food never drops. I've yet to visit a better Chinese restaurant in London after 15 years.
Good food but slow service
I think they were pretty busy as Saturday night and I wasn't in a hurry but service was slow and to wait a while for a drink. Food was good and would return.
We were waited on very aggressively by one particular male member of staff. It was so noisy we couldn't speak to each other. Everyone who passed behind my mother's seat to serve others banged into the back of her head and did not apologise. After waiting an hour and a half for our main course with nobody even willing to check on where our food was, we left. An awful experience I would avoid the place!
We visit Maxims every Friday. Danny and his staff are very friendly and very helpful ,and nothing is too much trouble for them if you want to change something. I have told my friends to visit Maxims and that the will not be disappointed with the food. I said to them once you go there you will be going back again and again. The people are very friendly we have got to know a couple there we chat to when we go there. Maxims is very relaxing and the surroundings are lovely. Give Maxims a try and I tell you, you will not be disappointed in any way.
Absolutely delicious food
Absolutely delicious food
What's the rush???
Plates were literally dragged from under us whilst some of my family were still eating. Wooden and cold service by a manager, did not deserve the cheeky 12.5% service charge added to an already very expensive bill. Will not be going again!!
superb dining experience
service, food and ambience were consistently excellent throughout the meal - attention to detail very evident.
Eat here. It is one of the best!
Check out the Crispy chilli beef if you have liked that dish elsewhere. ☺
Maxim's our local
Love going to Maxim's always welcomed. Food is always good and the waiters recommend new dishes if you want to try. Authentic without having to go to China town
Fantastic Restaurant with amazing food
We did not know exactly what to expect from this one. We booked it as we live in the area and have never tried it before. We were positively surprised. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the food exceeded our expectation of a Chines restaurant in West Ealing / Northfields. It's a little pricy by worth it for a good occasion.
It's a good little spot
We had crispy duck to start and that was done very well. For mains we had shredded chilli beef, which was brilliant and cashew chicken. Couldn't fault it. Great Chinese food. And the wine list was pretty extensive too. It was a little pricey, but worth it I think.
MAXIM - MY FAVOURITE CHINESE RESTAURANT!
I've been going to Maxim since it opened around forty years ago. Over the years I've seen it expand from a tiny one room venue to a large and beautifully decorated restaurant with great atmosphere, consistently excellent food and.still in the same family! My son took me last Monday for my birthday but I've never seen it so empty and quiet - just us and two other tables! Nevertheless, it was a nice evening and the food was excellent as always - especially my favourites - BBQ Spare Ribs (best in London!), delicious Butterfly Prawns and Chicken with Cashew Nuts. The portions are very generous and last time, when we had ordered too much, the remainder was quickly packed up for me to take home in a carrier bag (just as good for lunch the following day!). If I'd been in a 'party mood' last Monday I might have been a bit disappointed but I was happy to play it low key. I would normally have given the full five star rating for overall and for ambience but I'm sure this must have been an exceptionally quiet night and it would certainly not deter me from going again in future (but maybe not on a Monday!). This restaurant is usually packed out until late at night and it is essential to book in advance. I had threatened my son and grandson not to mention my birthday but apparently I'd been 'observed' opening a card - so when the dessert (Glazed Toffee Apple and Banana with Ice Cream) arrived it was presented on a platter, complete with candle, which I blew out to the tune of Happy Birthday being sung, perhaps less noisily than usual but made up for with great enthusiasm! Maxim is a wonderful place to celebrate the Chinese New Year period which begins on the 19th February - so book early and maybe we'll see you there!
Lovely local Chinese restaurant. Always good, fresh food. Friendly service, nicely laid out restaurant with round tables.
We had a wonderful New Years eve dinner.
The food was outstanding, the portions generous and there was plenty of atmosphere. We don't normally eat out on New Years eve for fear of being ripped off but we were pleasantly surprised with our experience. we have eaten at this restaurant before and would definitely go again.
Good Chinese Food at Maxim's
Maxim Chinese Restaurant is a great authentic restaurant. The prawn toast was succulent, the crispy duck extremely flavoursome and the main beef dish was very tasty and well seasoned. Good customer service is also never a miss here, although we did feel that they were trying to turn around tables quickly, with it being New Years Eve. This being the only criticism, I would give Maxim's 4/5.
Maxims is not a cheap option but worth paying that little extra as the food is always superb. Service is always good and they are very attentive.
Fabulous Chinese food
We've now been visiting this restaurant for the last four years... mostly for occasions, but lately we have been going just to get away and enjoy a quiet meal. Food is great, fresh and delicious. Seabass is absolutely wonderful. Service and atmosphere are great. The waiting staff are attentive as is the Manager... I like him.. he's always ensuring that he says hello to his regulars and just generally ensuring that we are having a good time !... it's a personal experience and I love it.
Attentive as always
Love the friendly, efficient and attentive service here. Nothing is too much bother. Excellent night out
We have been going to Maxims for years and always loved it. Sadly all has changed. None of the usual waiters were evident and the service has definitely taken a turn for the worse - Perrier water put into hot sake heater not a nice bucket; hard to get attention for service. The food is still good, but the prices are now ridiculous - they must have increased by 25% minimum since we went there last 3 or 4 months ago - well over £200 for 5 of us. There is a lot of competition in the area and we will be voting with our feet! We questioned the prices with one of the suited (presumably head) waiters - he shrugged his shoulders and blamed the management!
Best Crispy Shredded Beef Ever!
Excellent Chinese food. Forgot the greasy take away and go here for a posh dinner. Awesome.
Another trip to Maxim and as usual the food is good.. Better service this time than usual for a Friday night as they weren't as busy and seem to have new staff who were excellent. Menu is the same for as long as we have been going there (6 years) which is nice but would be good to see some new options.
Good as always
A good meal for my son's birthday. A Tuesday night but busy in Maxim's as always. Reliable, good quality food and attentive service.
Early evening weekend dinner
We had an early dinner with our two kids. Food is always fresh. The service is attentive. Keep space for the banana fritters. It's on the expensive side so we only go for special occasions.
Wonderful Service and Food
Title says it all! ..................... Food was wonderful and service was great.
A busy but very good Chinese restaurant. Stumbled upon it when regular place was shut and have not looked back. Not cheap and seems prices have creeped up over last year or so. Crispy Beef standout dish. Duck always good also. Cabernet on wine list complemented meal very well. Service always good, waiters/management very friendly.
Can't cope when they're full
I have loved Maxim for years. As always, their food was fantastic - brilliantly cooked and seasoned, and a wonderful combination. As always, it was not cheap. We went on Mothers' Day and the restaurant was completely full, and I'm afraid they sacrificed quality of service. Table was too small. One dish was forgotten - they eventually gave it to us for free, but I'd rather have been honestly told they'd forgotten it. They placed the white wine in a bucket (excellent!) just out of the reach of the obviously frailest member of our party, and then did not pour it for us. If you don't have time to pour it, put it in our reach! Starter was cleared before we'd finished. Don't go to Maxim on Mothers' Day: they can't cope when they're full.
Extremely High Quality Chinese
7 of us went for a birthday meal. We ordered set menus for 6 which was enough to feed 9 people comfotably. Great dishes.
Too busy to cope?
I love Maxim but everytime I go on a Saturday night I am disappointed with the service.. it can be painfully slow and abrupt at times. But the food is great and we'll keep going back.. maybe on a week night in future.
Great food, service and atmosphere
I booked a table on the Saturday morning for 8pm that evening for 12. It was relatively short notice for such a large group but the restaurant managed to accomodate us. Having been to Maxim's quite a few times in the past, we knew what to expect and as usual, they didn't disappoint. The food here has always been excellent, it is a little on the pricey side but the portions are generous and worth it for the quality and flavour. Someone in our group also let our waiter know that it was my birthday so he bought over toffee apples with ice cream (if I remember rightly) with a candle and sang happy birthday to me. A great touch which really topped off the evening. Would always happily recommend Maxim's to anyone!
The prices were ridiculous, they overcharged me by £10.00 & when asked they didnt answer, they cant speak or understand english properly,i dont recommend this overpriced restaurant to anyone.
Had a celebratory meal at Maxim's. We had a set menu and everything was beautiful.
The food was very good, the staff were friendly. Would recommend the restaurant to friends and happy to go there again.
Great Chinese New Year dinner
Fantastic food again at Maxims and while the service was a little slower than normal, to be fair the restaurant was packed and the staff had to work around the New Year Dragon! Terriffic night!
Four of us visited on the evening of Chinese New Year, I expected something special to be happening in the restaurant but there was no special menu or anything to be honest. Service was very good, our waiter was funny and made up in a little way for the food. We had the platter starter, prawn toasts were nice, the ribs were dry, the spring rolls were greasy and the chicken satay was tough. For main the duck was dry, the sweet and sour chicken which was inedible, the noodles were nice but the rice was soggy. Bill was £130 with one drink each, one being a soft drink, so as you can imagine we will not be back, I have had better food from my local takeaway to be honest, the ambience is good and the decor is nice, they just need a new chef.
Good night out
Good night out; good food and lots of other diners providing a good atmosphere
