Matsuri St JamesAlways good!Been to Matsuri before. We love Teppan-yaki and Matsuri is a good place to eat at. It's nice and they are friendly. Good value for money. Of course it can be even better, in Japan. But this is very nice for being in Europe.14/06/2013 00:00:00Good service. We enjoyed.Per-requested thing was prepared. The improvement point just I want to say that Matsuri didn't response to my request via email. Actually, I called Matsuri and confirmed that my request was accepted. They sous have been responses.04/06/2013 00:00:00An overall good experienceNice food, cooked at the table. The service is outstanding !!!18/05/2013 00:00:00MatsuriWe really enjoyed our lunch at Matsuri. Very much home from home experience. The food and service was excellent and it was great to see your food being cooked in front of you. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return.18/05/2013 00:00:00Matsuri's food was simplyMatsuri's food was simply delicious, the staff were all very polite.
Only note for any vegetarian diners looking to come to the restaurant - the hot food that those sitting around you order is cooked right in front you at the group table. Chunks of chicken and a slab of beef isn't pleasent to see being sliced up and cooked, but when the half lobster came out and it's neurons were still firing as it's legs twitched before being put under the cloche, it was all too much.15/05/2013 00:00:00Our children love this restaurantOur son asked to go there for his fifteenth birthday. We have been happy visitors since before he was born.
Starters include sushi, sashimi, and tempura, all freshly prepared.
The main dish is teppanyaki, food grilled on the table. Choice of steak, seafood, or vegetarian, although there are other styles of cooking available. e.g. Our son likes grilled eel on rice. The more expensive set menu is better value than it first appears because it includes all of the starter courses rather than a choice of starters.
The Fireball Ice Cream is mainly for show, although still good. They pour a flammable liquid (probably Sake) onto ice cream and set light to it, generating a huge fireball. It is then served on a pancake with grilled pineapple.06/05/2013 00:00:00If in central London and lookingIf in central London and looking to dine tepanyaki style then look no further than Matsuri St James. Its a very large venue so we are usually able to secure a table even if last minute, and the food never disappoints. Cooked in front of you the set menus albeit pricey but quality, quantity and service make it a worthwhile treat.27/04/2013 00:00:00Quality, Service and value !I had been looking for a suitable restaurant for a birthday treat for my partner. I was looking for quality but without crazy prices. There gimmicky Teppanyaki grills in London where the food quality doesnt warrant the price. Matsuri is a lovely venue with a calm ambience and extremely friendly service without being overbearing (no annoying constant checks). The quality of the food was outstanding, very tender meat and fish. We played safe as first timers with the set menu but we watched others and the quality of the Sushi looked amazing so we will be more adventurous next time. If you want good quality food in a classy but not stuffy atmosphere, I cant recommend highly enough. (The flambe ice cream was great fun for the Birthday :-)13/04/2013 00:00:00The Wagyu beef is a mustIt had been too long since my previous visit to Matsuri St James and I wasn't disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious but it was the Australian Wagyu beef that stood out high above the rest and it was excellently cooked. I have not found any better in London and Matsuri St James continues to be my favourite Japanese restaurant outside of Japan.08/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely restaurantMy wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for many, many years now. This time It was my wife's birthday and the food, service, and ambience as always, was very good! Well done Matsuri, yet again.05/04/2013 00:00:00From the minute we walkedFrom the minute we walked in, to the minute we left, my lady and I experienced the highest level of service and attention to detail. It was truly a memorable occasion and Matsuri immediately went to the top of our favourites list. It is hard to single out one particular element as the whole evening was outstanding. We spent nearly 4 hours at the restaurant and were never made to feel as if they wanted us to leave. It also seemed as if every other person in the restaurant was as delighted with the experience as us! Matsuri ranks as one of the most exceptional dining experiences possible. We will return again and again!31/03/2013 00:00:00the service was very good!
icethe service was very good!

We had 7 Set Matsuri Menus that allowed a group to try everything that was cooked infront of this group. Great experience04/03/2013 00:00:00Been to Matsuri asecond timeBeen to Matsuri asecond time and absolutely love it!!
Great job guys!! will come back again13/02/2013 00:00:00Weekday lunchWent for lunch o a weekday, therefore not as busy as expected, but both ambience and service were very good. Throughout our lunch me and my friends have always been well considered by our waitress, a Japanese young lady who helped us also understanding the menu, where a great selection of sushi, tempura, meat and noodles could be found. Plus, every chef has their own specialties, in accordance to the dishes ordered from the teppan-yaki!05/02/2013 00:00:00Been there several times overBeen there several times over the years and it remains outstanding25/01/2013 16:00:00Great place - favourite restaurantGreat place - favourite restaurant in London. I would recommend to everyone. It isn't cheap but compared to other similar restaurants I just find this place is really enjoyable, with a good atmosphere, great food and friendly staff.17/01/2013 16:00:00As usual never dissapointsI have been going to this restaurant for nearly 4 years and it never fails to dissapoint. The service is great, the food is great, the atmosphere is great! It's easily one of the best restaurants in London!05/01/2013 00:00:00Excellent restaurant - greatExcellent restaurant - great experience, food of highest quality, staff very friendly - would recommend this to anyone - it is at the higher end of the price bracket however, the quality is high03/01/2013 16:00:00Best Teppanyaki in LondonReally good sushi & sashimi.
Best Teppenyaki in London.
Excellent service & ambience.
Comes at Mayfair prices but it is in Mayfair!29/12/2012 16:00:00was goodwent there at my wife's birthday and both really enjoyed. food and service were great specially seafood on the grill. would like to recommend to go there.24/12/2012 00:00:00Matsuri Samurai ChefsMatsuri is a Japanese style steakhouse (Teppenyaki) They have ala carte and set menus. At Teppenyaki restaurants I prefer t go for the course menu (makes life easier) - the show is comparable with Benihana, but the food quality is higher (very high) - and also the prices. It's more of a business/special occasion/on holiday kind of place, but don't let that stop you.
The steaks are excellent, and I recommend getting the lobster tempura, it rounds out the teppenyaki meal very nicely.
They have a good range of cocktails so feel free to go crazy - if you're NOT driving after.07/09/2012 00:00:00Reminiscent of the Rising SunThe price was high. Service was enthusiastic but unwanted at times. The waiter practically shoved his finger in my food every time he pointed at something to explain it. Nice wine. Rubbish decor. Almost empty restaurant. I cannot emphasis enough however how special the food was. A once in a life-time experience, whose equal could surely be found only in Japan. The fillet steak & wagyu shabu shabu were both excellent, as was the live lobster, all done on the hotplate before your eyes, by a consummate teppan-yaki master. Sushi and sashimi is of the highest quality. The dobin mushi soup was sublime. The miso shiru and rice were average, but I guess they weren't really the main attractions (in fact, they came without our ordering them).27/08/2012 00:00:00Matsuri (Mayfair, London)This is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London. Sashimi is very fresh and nicely presented, only slightly disappointed this time that sea urchin was sold out! hmmm... Chef has excellent skills in cooking and presenting the food in front of customers. esp like the presentation of 'fireball ice-cream with mango', even though I have watched that many times here!14/06/2012 16:00:00matsurialways enjoy matsuri love the tapan yaki always enjoy eating here31/05/2012 00:00:00Matsuri Fab as AlwaysWe have a lovely meal at Matsuri. I never get tired of seeing the chefs cook up some great food. Service is attentive and food is gorgeous. I'll keep going back for more!13/05/2012 00:00:00Matsuri (Mayfair, London)Matsuri (Mayfair, London) is one of my favourite Japanese restaurant in London. Friendly and good service. Wide range of good quality Sashimi. As mentioned in my previous reviews, the main difference of this one from the others is that it has Teppan-yaki. Lobster tasted nice and fresh, exotic Japanese mushrooms certainly worth a try. Presentation of the 'flaming' ice-cream was excellent.29/03/2012 16:00:00
