A word from Marcus - formerly Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley
After an extensive refurbishment the former Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley has reopened as Marcus. The new ‘look’ exudes cool sophistication; a carefully considered blend of timeless elegance, clean, classical lines and a refined colour palette, providing a fresh, inviting and relaxed backdrop for Marcus and his team to thrill and enchant their guests. Marcus remains at the helm, working closely with Head Chef Mark Froydenlund. The essence of the food has been retained but has been updated. The menus deliver modern European food with a British influence and are characterized by the finest produce, exacting execution and creative flair. . Relaxed formality is the order of the day and is no more apparent than in the service, led by Restaurant Manager Daniel Greenock, which strikes the perfect balance between being engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate whilst also being attentive yet unassuming. • "great service coupled with interesting menu. Well worth a visit to be inspired"

  • "Wow do I need to say any more?? Myself and my wife had dinner here on Friday evening, I have nothing negative to say food was outstanding and the service was second to none. We certainly will be coming back."

  • "If this was any normal a la carte restaurant I would say the food was barely decent but for a two starred michelin restaurant it was sub par. The restaurant is newly redecorated and looks fantastic and feels very comfortable and relaxed. The scallops starter was the highlight of the night, but then it went downhill. The lamb was just confusing in taste and the beetroot made the whole plate look like a bloody mess. I'm not a vampire so I'll pass. For dessert my wife had warm chocolate with ice cream. Something on that plate tasted burnt, ruining the whole dish. The lemon meringue that I had was just sweet on sweet on sweet. For a 350£ night it felt like we had been ripped off."

  • "Glad to see Marcus reopened. As you would expect style, service, welcome and food all to an extremely high standard. The lunch menu offers the opportunity to sample excellent cooking at a good price. We were able to relax and took the best part of three hours - its a place for doing lunch properly not just grabbing a bite and go. Stand out food - Pollack, lobster & razor clams, Pork Belly and pease pudding and a fabulous take on Tiramisu. Cheese board offered an excellent selection and the"

  • "We enjoyed it very much and it was a very special occasion and so were willing to pay the very high prices. I thought that the Turbot and snails dish was as good a dish as I have had anywhere."

  • "A great lazy Saturday lunch. Food and wine were fantastic. You must try the quail. A much improved interior and friendly atmosphere."

  • "I took a friend to "Marcus" for lunch and was blown away by both the food (which was absolutely delicious) and the prices - £60 for 2 courses turned out to be a lot of money for rather small portions that left us still hungry afterwards. The food was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely wonderful - I would recommend trying the pigeon (tender with a crispy skin) which was served with a sauce that was to die for - pure genius! We both particularly loved the chocolate dessert with salted caramel ice-cream. The service was impeccable - discreet, friendly, attentive. I wish I could come back to try more but I simply can't and don't want to afford those prices."

  • "We took our seats with some trepidation on Saturday evening as we loved the "old" Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley! We were not to be disappointed. Whilst we thought the new décor and surroundings have lost a little of its charm, this was more than made up for by the excellent food, wine and service. If you can stretch to the Taste menu then we would highly recommend it, great examples of cooking methods, ability, skill and ingredients, better than or equal to anything that has come before. The service is a little less fussy than before, but still spot on and very friendly. A simply brilliant experience!"

  • "Although the new restaurant is proposed to be more informal it is still a lavish but friendly and professional experience. The new menu is so much nicer than previously and to my taste better than any of its contemporaries"

  • "The restaurant had only just reopened after a complete makeover but the staff didn't miss a beat we were well looked after by the especially well informed maitre'd .The food is outstanding and wine list covers all tastes without being a monster to trawl through."

  • "Visted on the first public day of the reopening of Marcus - a truly wonderful occasion. Everything was lovely - the ambience, the food, the drinks & the service. Yes it was expensive but as a special occasion couldn't have wanted more, saw the chef around the place as nice (good to know not just his name on the door). All of the food was excellent - the quail & crab we had for starter, the joint pork main course & cheese/ dessert were awesome. Sommelier recommended great wines to accompany the food. We will be going back!"

  • "Lunch at Marcus Wareing is the bargain of the century. This restaurant delivers the perfect lunchtime treat. Truly fantastic food with tremendous service which is pitched just right. Very good sommeliers and well matched wines. The food is interesting and cooked with a good balance of traditional and contemporary methods. The best meal I have had since Chavot left The Capital. It's almost in the same league. A lovely experience."

  • "My wife and I had the A La Carte lunch, both starting with the risotto with teal and truffle, which was delicious, followed by the lamb which again was delicious. Service was generally excellent, although we were shocked when the waiter poured another table's wine into my wife's wine glass and then started to pour the correct wine, ignoring the fact there was a different wine in the same glass! She asked for a new glass which was brought and filled generously with a new bottle of the correct wine. Surprisingly, there was no apology, although at the end of the meal the waiter gave us a free glass of dessert wine each which was a nice touch. We were kindly given a tour of the kitchen and saw Marcus W who smiled and was very friendly."

  • "Had Saturday lunch at Marcus Wareing. Service was faultless from start to finish from a young and friendly team. Could not fault the food although the teal and truffle risotto stood out as my favourite dish. Fairly expensive but considering the additional free extras such as amuse bouches and pre-desserts it could be considered to be good value - service and the location will always be pricey."

  • "I went to the restaurant over a year ago and greatly enjoyed it and thought it well up to two star standard. This time it was disappointing. The main courses were good to very good but the amouse bouche were flat, boring and tasteless. there were no petit fours at all. Over rated and not worth the effort any more. Rod Beddows"

  • "Although we went for the lunch offer 3 courses with wine for £56, however both the quality of food and service did not reflect this fact. We were very very well looked after. The icing on the cake was that we asked if the Custard Tart was on the menu as we were prepared to pay extra to taste this as Marcus won the Great British Menu and served the Queen with his dessert. However we were told unfortunately this was not on the menu that day. When time for our dessert we had a wonderful surprise, custard tart was brought to us, and then we were also served the dessert we ordered. So we had 2 x desserts. We thought this was a really nice touch. Definitely will save up and go back!"

  • "Went for lunch and had the taster menu and also the wine tasting menu. The service was absolutely first class, nice friendly staff who were perfectly attentive and we even had the opportunity to go into the kitchen (which was so clean you could have eaten your food from the floor). I loved that when ever you left the table to go to the toilet for example you would return to a delightfully folded napkin. its the little touches that make it special. the food whilst being absolutely delicious i was a little underwhelmed by its presentation (apart from the desert which looked like a little piece of art) but then thats just my opinion. i guess for a two star restaurant i was expecting every course to look like that. a wonderful afternoon."

  • "we had a fantastic evening at Marcus Wareing - great service, food and atmosphere. We were treated to a kitchen tour which was a bonus and the staff sent time chatting when left alone at the table. Fabulous!"

  • "We ate from the 3 courses with accompanying wines for £56 menu and thought it was excellent value for money. The sirloin was absolutely incredible and the caramelised white chocolate dessert was to die for. The wines were also very well paired. The starters didn't quite match the heady heights of the rest of the meal...but they were still very good. My only slight criticism was the ambience...it felt quite stuffy and it didn't have much of a buzz about it, but we were eating late on a Monday lunchtime so a few empty tables weren't surprising."

  • "We had a very disappointing meal mainly because of top table. I followed the link for £56 for 3 courses and matching wine to book our anniversary dinner. At no point did the deal mention lunch, in fact the link took us to an evening booking. Even in the small print, no mention of lunch. So, we were surprised to arrive for dinner to find that deal did not apply for dinner.despite being very careful with wine choices, the bill came to well over £400. This is just not something which I can afford. But what do you do when it's a special night, bit embarrassing to make a fuss. It doesn't matter what the food was like, the meal was totally spoilt. But no, the food was not good enough to warrant the bill."

  • "Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley is a special place. The beautiful dining room with sound proofing, the absence of which makes other restaurants unacceptable. sets a tone that is followed with the exceptionally fine food and waiting staff who really want to make the occasion work. One little point mentioned to the staff and they went the extra mile to make the lunch a superlative pleasure. The set menu for lunch with the sommelier's wine choices was really excellent value."

  • "Magnificent Marcus Wareing. What a treat. Terribly expensive, but not what you wouldn't really expect at this level. The food was outstanding, and like all good restaurants, only had to mention the coeliac allergies once and they had everything covered. Sensational food, magnificent service. You get what you pay for. Magical way to shout my partner a lovely foodie birthday experience."

  • "Excellent set lunch menu - amazing looking and tasting dishes at a very reasonable price. Think it might become my favourite lunch meeting place in Knightsbridge."

  • "Always high on my list, and all the others lists, too, I booked for a visiting foodie friend and we went with high hopes. Sadly, we were underwhelmed. My foie gras starter came lukewarm--never a good thing in my view--and accompanied by sweet, jam-filled brioche. Too sweet, no savory balance. Main dishes of venison and lamb were inventive but not balanced flavors--too sweet and again lukewarm. Chocolate cake also nice but lacking any punch. Gorgeous wine list, lovely setting, superb service. We were asked to take a tour of the kitchen and we had a fun chat with the exec chef. Very nice touch. When the food matches the service, I can easily imagine why this is one of the top restaurants in London. Hopefully, I was just there on an off night."

  • "It was a birthday special - as notified on the booking. A muddly telephone confirmation from them left me feeling that there would be a visit to the kitchen and some fuss made...nothing happened. The arrival and greeting were disappointing and although the food was wonderful, the occasion was less than special. I suppose one should go there for rather formal food and go to the more intimate, warmer places for special occasions."

  • "Special occasions like my anniversary for this restaurant. What you would expect from a Michelin star establishment i.e. excellent food, service and extra little touches. Even the portions were on the generous side for this type of restaurant although my main was somewhat more substantial than my wife's. Ranks well with others such as the Ledbury although possibly not as original and more classic."
